Checking log on times for Internet

We have a fairly new Macbook and we have just received an account saying that we owe a fair bit of money for our internet. They are trying to say that we downloaded a heap of information on one day back in December but we do not think that we did.
Is there any way that we can look back in any records and see how long we were logged on for on a certain day?
Thanks!

The MacBook, on its own, does not record online times. If you are connected via broadband, dsl then you are online 24/7. Many services now limit the amount of data you can transfer - something unheard of a few years ago. It's their way of generating more money for themselves and keeping you from downloading 24/7. Comcast, TimeWarner and AT&T are the biggest culprits to this new activity and they claim they must do it to stop people from P2P downloading. P2P downloading is entirely legal, but the music and movie industries have put tremendous threats of legal pressure on ISPs. It's a win/win for the ISPs even tho' under the law they cannot be held accountable for what you do while connected to the internet.
For Comcast, who retain a veritually monopoly in many areas, it is a big big win for them because they can literally destroy companies like online BlockBuster and NetFlix because, by limiting the amount of data you can transfer, Comcast can keep you from downloading legal films you pay for from BB or NT or any other movie/music outlet. OTOH, Comcast can "waive" the data transfer fee if you pay for and download movies or music they offer. And we let them get away with it. Duh...
The movie and music industries used to be required to go to court and get permission to require the ISP to identify the name/address of those downloading or accessing their material but Bush and Congress changed all that with the Patriot Act and all a Movie/Music producer has to do is make a demand based upon the Patriot Act. You can thank your fellow citizens for allowing this to happen and for not demanding their Senators/Representatives curb the ISPs and/or the Movie Music industries.
So what can you do to not come up against this throttling in the future? Drop your current ISP and search for an ISP that is more relaxed when it comes to how you spend your time online. They are generally small and generally charge a little bit more per month, aren't quite as fast, but at least then you won't be slapped with an overwhelming bill and no one will be watching what you do and when you do it over the Internet.

  • I have to restart ipad each time for internet access.  Why?

    I have to restart ipad each time for internet access and some games.  Never happened until about 2 weeks ago.  ?

    Firefox is a browser: it doesn't require you to 'sign in'.
    It sounds to me like you have some kind of malware installed if you're required to 'sign in' every time you use it.
    I'd recommend you use Internet Explorer (''assuming that doesn't require you to 'sign in' too'') to go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and download the free version. It will quarantine any malware it finds so restart Firefox afterwards to see whether the problem recurs or not.

    How to find out the process time for each transaction eg.order entry,shippng,billing, etc in SAP.

    Hi,
        By default you can see the execution time at right side corner of sap session.
    You can use SE30 to get in to more details like database time , abap time etc...
    Hope it helps...

  • Long Time For Internet Network Access After Sleep (Interesting Twist)

    I have a Macbook Pro and an Airport Extreme. Recently, I have noticed that when my Macbook Pro comes out of sleep mode, it takes a long time to connect to my network. Here is the interesting twist on the problems that I have seen reported on here: I immediately connect to the Airport Extreme. I know this because I see the signal strength indicator on the Pro (upper toolbar) showing that I am connected with strong signal strength. However, when I attempt to access the Internet I get page errors that show I am not connected to the Net. After about a minute or two, everything is fine.
    This started happening recently and other than whatever upgrades Apple has sent my way, I have not changed nor added anything to the system.
    Any thoughts?

    Given your connection will eventually come good you'll probably find that your problem lies with your DHCP server and your MBP's inability to quickly get a new address. Check the DHCP's server admin that it has a decently large enough address pool as having too small a pool can often cause these issues. I normally recommend having a pool around 50% more than the number of computers that it serves else a minimum of 5.

    No you cannot.  One CSQ at a time with the Get Reporting Stats Step.

  • BADI for multiple address check at one time for a BP

    Hi All,
    I am on CRM7.0
    I have a BPHEADOverview Screen on which a view is assigned with Address Details for that particular BP.
    Once i go in to the Address view corresponding to that BP on UI and do some address changes, i am able to capture the changes in the BADI BUPA_ADDR_CHECK while i click on event BACK on the address screen.
    But my requirement is that BADI should be triggered once i click the event SAVE on BPHEADOverview Screen.
    Could you please let me know the name of the BADI that can give me all BP addresses, related data for the above mentioned scenario..
    I need a BADI which captures all changed address detail for a particula BP at the time of clicking event SAVE on BPHEADOverview Sceen.

  • Brand new iMac, and the load time for internet use is very poor

    Brought my new iMac home today. 2.7 GHz intel core i5
    Got it set up with my wireless and i am very unimpressed with the internet and loading speed. My phone, 1 lap top, and 1 ipad use wireless in our house along with the iMac. i have a cisco linksys E2500 is that sufficient enough all of my usage? No gaming more than what a todler would play on. Basic internet use and editing pictures.
    My question i guess is, is it my router or are iMac's just not that fast?

    The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
    If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Long log in times for new user

    I am having a devil of a time deploying 10.9 and 10.10.  I am deploying Macs in a lab environment which sits in an AD world.  I usually followed the same pattern of image creation: 1) create a test profile, 2) Install and configure the programs and the dock, 3) Copy the profile, and 4) then test with both a local and admin accounts.  With Lion and Mountain Lion, everything worked fine.  The new user was able to log on with the default user template profile that was copied.  Now with 10.9.5, the network user (with a network Home Page) takes 5 minutes to log on when I copy a profile to the User Templates folder.  I can't create a new user from Users and Groups because the system preferences wont close because it is still busy creating the user.   I use Deploy Studio and Profile Manager to push out images.  I followed my procedures to the core including repairing the permissions, deleting the key chain, and clearing out the application caches.  Is anyone else experiencing this?  Is there anything new in regards to Active Directory in Mavericks and Yosemite and OS X?  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi, you might want to repost this in Server forum, or maybe 10.9 o 10.10...

  • The time for warranty

    There is a problem with my iphone5 recently which I bought last year. i checked the expiration time for repairing which is 30 October 2013.  But the problem is that the nearest time for making reservation is also on 30th October 2013. As a result, I made a reservation of genius bar on 30th October. Do i need to pay money for repairing my iphone because it will take more than one days to repair my iphone???
    Thanks a lot.

  • Reduce Time for Rman Backup

    Dear Experts;
    rman for 0 level backup is taking about 5:26 hours, backup size is now 312gb I have enabled block track checking & it reduces time for incremental level 1 from 2hour to almost 3 minutes.
    database shows biggest tablespace is "users"
    I want valuable suggestions for reducing its time or is there any way to break 0 level backup. I can allocate channels but ultimately it will take time when taking "users" tablepace backup
    Right now I am taking backup at usb drive & its version is 2.0
    Regards

    As you are taking backup to a usb drive there is not much that can be done to improve the speed. If you are concerned about the backup being slow.. then you could think of taking the backup on local disk( which would be faster and more efficient) and then move the backups from the disk to usb drive.
    This can be done in a single backup script as 2 part operation.
    1) take backup to disk.
    2) copy the backup to usb drive and delete the backups from the disk.
    There are many additional features that u can add to enhance it thoe.
    Regards,

  • Script for internet connect with dial up modem, check email & log off

    I am looking for a script to connect to the internet (with dial up) external apple modem, then check email and then log off and disconnect. I don't want any other applications opening internet connect? A would use this script file with ical and could have my email checked and open up in the morning before I leave for work....being that we have dial up the entire process of connecting to the internet and checking email is time consuming. Any help is greatly appreciated. thks

    You need some additional logic in there - as written, the script will launch mail, then immediately disconnect the internet connection.
    At the very least you need to add a delay before disconnecting to allow for Mail to download awaiting messages.
    Since you cannot predict how long a delay you'll need, a better approach would be to query Mail.app and wait until it's idle, like:
    tell application "Mail"
      launch -- doesn't need to be frontmost
      check for new mail -- get all mail
      repeat until (get background activity count) = 0
        delay 2 -- wait 2 seconds before checking again
      end repeat
    end tell
    In this way the script forces a check of new mail (don't assume that Mail.app is set to auto-check, especially for dialup users who often compose mail offline and may have automatic checking disabled), and it hangs around until Mail.app has finished downloading all the messages.

  • Time-out checking log bucket location.

    Hi,
    Earlier this month, I successfully ran the OSB Cloud Module for Amazon S3 installer. It created a "new registration for this S3 user" with a new "Registration ID". It also generated an "S3 Logging Bucket" with a name based off of my Amazon nickname which at the time of running the Cloud module installer was "javanetworking".
    $ *./osbws_install.sh*
    Oracle Secure Backup Database Web-Service Install Tool, build 2011-02-04.0001
    AWS credentials are valid.
    Creating new registration for this S3 user.
    Created new log bucket.
    Registration ID: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
    S3 Logging Bucket: oracle-log-javanetw-1
    Validating log bucket location ...
    Validating license file ...
    Create credential oracle.security.client.connect_string1
    OSB web-services wallet created in directory /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/osbws_wallet.
    OSB web-services initialization file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/osbwstestdb1.ora created.
    Downloading OSB Web Services Software Library from file osbws_linux64.zip.
    Downloaded 20744341 bytes in 10 seconds. Transfer rate was 2074434 bytes/second.
    Download complete.
    Extracted file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/libosbws12.so
    Since then, I have changed my Amazon nickname (https://www.amazon.com/gp/nickname/index.html"). I was hoping to re-run the Cloud module installer and have it generate a new "S3 Logging Bucket". I removed the two S3 buckets that were created in the initial Cloud module install (the data and log buckets).
    However, when I attempt to re-run the Cloud module installer, it complains that it cannot find the original "S3 Logging Bucket":
    $ *./osbws_install.sh*
    Oracle Secure Backup Database Web-Service Install Tool, build 2011-02-04.0001
    AWS credentials are valid.
    S3 user already registered.
    Registration ID: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
    S3 Logging Bucket: *oracle-log-javanetw-1*
    Validating log bucket location ...
    Time-out checking log bucket location.
    Please try again later.
    I even tried using the *-newLogBucket* option to osbws_install.jar so it would force the creation of new log bucket; however, it doesn't appear to do anything. It still complains about not finding the original S3 Logging Bucket.
    I thought the best option would be to "un-register" the Amazon S3 user the installer generated. There is no documented option in osbws_install.jar to perform a full "un-install" or "un-register". The Registration ID the installer creates appears to be hard-coded metadata somewhere in Amazon S3.
    +AWS credentials are valid.+
    +S3 user already registered.+
    +Registration ID: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx+
    I know that the registration information is not stored with your OTN profile because I tried putting in a fake OTN username/password when calling osbws_install.jar. It doesn't use the OTN username/password because it first uses your AWSID/AWSKey to see if there is information that the S3 user is already registered. Once it determines that the S3 account is already registered, it doesn't need to log in to OTN and displays:
    *S3 user already registered.*
    I did try this and it worked for modifying the backup bucket (OSB_WS_BUCKET) but didn't appear to work for the S3 Logging Blucket (_OSB_WS_LOG_BUCKET).
    1.) Manually re-create the missing S3 Logging Bucket (oracle-log-javanetw-1).
    2.) Run the Cloud module installer so it creates the wallet, configFile, and downloads the library.
    3.) Determine list of valid parameters that can be set in the configFile:
    $ *strings $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libosbws12.so | grep '^OSB_' | sort*
    OSB_WS_BUCKET <----------
    OSB_WS_CHUNK_SIZE
    OSB_WS_HOST
    OSB_WS_LICENSE_ID
    OSB_WS_LICENSE_MAX_SESSIONS
    OSB_WS_LOCATION
    OSB_WS_PFILE
    OSB_WS_PROXY
    OSB_WS_WALLET
    $ *strings $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libosbws12.so | grep '^_OSB_' | sort*
    _OSB_WS_100_CONTINUE
    _OSB_WS_ACCESSLOG
    _OSB_WS_ACCESSLOG_CLEANER
    _OSB_WS_ACCESSLOG_RETENTION_TIME
    _OSB_WS_ALLOCBUF_DISABLE
    _OSB_WS_BASIC_AUTH
    _OSB_WS_BUFFER_READ
    _OSB_WS_BUFFER_WRITE
    _OSB_WS_CHECKER_RETENTION_TIME
    _OSB_WS_CLEANER
    _OSB_WS_CLEANER_RETENTION_TIME
    _OSB_WS_DEFERRED_DELETE
    _OSB_WS_EVENT
    _OSB_WS_IP_REFRESH_TIMEOUT
    _OSB_WS_LOAD_BALANCE
    _OSB_WS_LOG_BUCKET <----------
    _OSB_WS_PURGE_LIMIT
    _OSB_WS_RECV_BUF_SIZE
    _OSB_WS_REDIRECT
    _OSB_WS_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT
    _OSB_WS_RETRY_WAIT_TIME
    _OSB_WS_REUSE_CONNECTION
    _OSB_WS_RUN_CLEANER
    _OSB_WS_SDU_SIZE
    _OSB_WS_SEND_BUF_SIZE
    _OSB_WS_SESSION_RETENTION_TIME
    _OSB_WS_TDU_SIZE
    _OSB_WS_TRACE_LEVEL
    _OSB_WS_UPLOAD_DELAY
    _OSB_WS_USE_IPV6
    _OSB_WS_VALIDATE_CHUNK
    4.) Modify the configFile to include:
    $ *cat $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/osbwstestdb1.ora*
    OSB_WS_HOST=s3.amazonaws.com
    OSB_WS_LICENSE_ID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
    OSB_WS_WALLET='location=file:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/osbws_wallet CREDENTIAL_ALIAS=idevjhun_aws'
    OSB_WS_BUCKET=idevelopment-oracle-backups
    _OSB_WS_LOG_BUCKET=idevelopment-oracle-log
    So,
    1.) Is the *-newLogBucket* option broke or an unimplemented method?
    2.) Is there a way to "un-register" or modify the S3 registration information so that the Cloud module installer will register a new S3 user? (i.e. starting from scratch)
    It would seem to me that a user might want to completely uninstall and un-register at some time in the future.
    3.) Where is the "Registered S3 User" metadata stored?
    4.) Can you specify the S3 Logging Bucket (and data bucket) during the install?
    There is a similar post which the user ran into the same issue when removing the S3 Logging Bucket.

    Best regards,
    jeff

    Hi again,
    my problem seems to be caused by us having deleted the bucket at an earlier stage. When we ran the installer script again, the installer was confused by this, and was not able to re-create a bucket.
