Checking mail on localhost

I am developing a mailingg system. I am using jdk1.3, JRun for jsp and windows 98. I dont know what is a mail server and how to set it for my mailing application and confirm that my mailing program is working good. how can I check the mail sent by my mailing program without being connected to internet on my computer. Can somebody help me?

Start with "What is a mail server?" There are several books available that describe Internet features at the introductory level. One that I know of is "Internet for Dummies". Sorry about the title, I didn't write the book. Anyway, start there. There is no point trying to answer your other questions until you know the answer to the first one.

[SOLVED] Sending mail from localhost

This is probably a newbie question so I will post it here. I am trying to send a simple mail from localhost. I don't own a domain and I don't need anything complicated. I just have a script that if X case happens, my computer will send me an email notification. I've done this before on Redhat systems at work but do not know how to set it up on arch. On Redhat, I would simply just run the mail command with default settings and a mail would be sent from hostname@localhost to my target gmail address. I installed s-nail and sendmail on my arch machine and when attempting to send a test mail using # echo "this is a test" | mail -s test [email protected] , I receive the following messages in my journal:

I followed the sendmail setup instructions on the arch wiki page and used the default sendmail.mc file that was shown there.

Mail App stopped checking mail

Hi. Mail App stopped checking mail suddenly. I was able to check my mail at 10:15 this morning. Now when i tell it to get mail it does nothing at all. I repaired permissions and reboot and still no luck. Any ideas?

Try locating and deleting these two preference/plist files:
~(yourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
~(yourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist

You should have signed in with that address in the first place, but there is a workaround: go to System preferences>Mail, Contacts@ Calendars and add your @me.com address as an account there.

Seems to be the Issue is Syncing emails, now I would recommend you to Remove and Add the Account and try and check if the emails are getting synced automatically.
Hope this is with Single User. If it is with Multiple Users then we need to check the permissions assigned.

My Mac has 4 mail accounts coming into it, but you are correct, one of them is a POP account, (and unfortunately it is the main @ account, and is the one associated with my apple id, since we've had it for years). I couldn't figure out how to replace this with the Imap version, short of deleting that account entirely.
Is this what I have to do?

I just installed Icloud on my Iphone and PC (all versions as required) I checked mail, caledar and task. Outlook shows an Icloud calendar but none of the events that are on my phone calendar. Email is not syncing from phone to pc either. What do i do?

What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.

Iphone automatically checks mail even though it's set to "manual" check

In settings > mail, Auto-check is set to manual, but my phone still vibrates and beeps periodically -- even when it has been asleep and I'm not touching -- announcing that new mail has arrived.
I'm using it to check a yahoo and a gmail account. Why is it still checking mail automatically?

Actually I just figured this out myself. You can turn it off by going to
Settings > Mail
and then clicking on your yahoo account. At the very top of the screen for your yahoo account settings, there's a button that says "Account ON or OFF"
Switching it to OFF means it won't show up at all in your mail program but it also won't push. Switching it back on makes it show up immediately in your mail program again.

Hotmail PW updated, Can't use Mac book Mail program to check mail

I updated my hotmail.com user password . I can log in on a hotmail web browser to check mail.
But if I check mail on the Mail Program on my Mac Pro, the Mail program keep showing me
"Mail can't connect to the account Hotmail.com".

I did the following procedure:
* disabled the existing hotmail.com account,
* add a new hotmail.com account with the same info.
This solved my problem.
I found the non working hotmail.com account with incoming and outgoing servers are "live.com :-
For hotmail.com account , they should be:
Incoming mail "imap-mail.outlook.com",
Outgoing mail "smtp-mail.outlook.com"

2 Question: Check mail on launch/Save Attachments

I have 2 Questions about Mail 2.0.5 in Tiger:
1.Start Checking Mail upon Launch
I have set Mail to check for new mail every 5 minutes, but everytime when I first launch Mail, I have to manually click on 'Get Mail' for the 1st email check, is there a way to start checking email when launch?
2.Save Attachments into a pre-designated folder
How do I save attachments into a folder? Do I set a new Rule with this?? Insides Rules, the closest I can find is "Any Attachment Name", but I don't know how to set this up?
In Entourage, there is 1 rule with Attachments easily set up to move them into another folder or something...

I have a similar issue. I have had Leopard installed for a few months with everything working fine. A few days ago mail stopped working. Mail appears on the desktop but crashes after beginning to bring accounts online. Does anyone know what could be wrong.

Having trouble checking mail

Since the 10.6.2 SNow Leopard my Mail program on my Mac has been really having problems. The spinning thingy just continuing on forever.
Suddenly checking mail on my iPhone is exhibiting the same behavior. It checks forever and never seems to stop. It can't seem to find some mail I've stored in a folder. It is getting a few pieces of mail, but continues to look for more.

Are you accessing the account via POP? If so, having both the Mac and the iPhone trying to access at the same time may cause problems (POP3 is really intended for a single mail client).

How to Keep Checking Mail Without Screen Lighted?

I apologize for asking so many questions but I just got an iPod yesterday and it is my first iGadget of any kind.
I would like for it to keep checking mail and signal me when new mail arrives. I understood iPods would do this -- it's one of the main reasons I bought the thing. I've set it to give an audible signal when new mail arrives, but it doesn't seem to work. I've set a thing called Notifications to alert me except between midnight and 7am. But, it turns off (I think it calls this locking) every two minutes so if it can't check while locked it's pretty much useless for monitoring mail. I suppose I could set it to stay on continuously, but I imagine that will run the battery down in short order.
So, are there some special settings to make it check mail and tweetle new messages while "locked"
Incidentally it doesn't seem to alert me of new mail even after I turn it on. I have to activate the mail application to see if there's new mail. I guess it's possible there's a delay while it connects to the network and by the time it's connected I've already gone into the mail reader.

First of all, this is Apple Support Communities, and it was made for questions. You can ask as many as you need to, as long as they're in the correct "community".
Apple Mail app is slightly annoying in this aspect. Unless you are signed up for iCloud or Me mail, you wil have a long delay before you get alerted, even while you're using the device. To help slightly, make sure you go to your Inbox in the mail app before exiting. Also, some mail providers make their own apps, such as Gmail, that alert you instantly. Try searching the App Store for your Mail provideo's app. Hopefully Apple will fix this someday. I hope you can solve this!

Do you mean in terms of storage ? If so then you can't see it separately for the Mail app, it's included in the 'Other' category which shows at the bottom of the Summary tab when connected to your computer's iTunes - along with notes, calendar info, contacts and the contents of third-party apps.

Mail app in Mountain Lion doesn't check mails anymore

Right next to every mailbox there's the gray circle with the exclamation mark as if the accounts were offline. "Bring all accounts online" doesn't do anything at all, and neither does clicking on the exclamation mark. Quitting and reopening used to work for a while, now that stopped working. A restart of the computer seems to do the job, but I can't restart the machine everytime just to check mails... I tried deleting the preferences but doesn't do anything.
Really annoying, mail worked just fine before this Mountain Lion upgrade. I recently had my routher exchanged, I believe the problem startet when I put the macbook to sleep, turn of the router, and later when I come back and connect to the internet mail goes crazy.
Please anyones has any ideas before I'm going through the trouble of rebuilding the whole strucutre?

Could it be a possibility that this issue is somehow connected to my new router? I believe this problem started with the new router... So maybe there's a port issue or something?

Alright, so the problem seems to have been the router blocking port 993 which is used by the pop accounts. Look like it works fine now, it had to be added as an open port in the router configuration.

Use your PC to sign-on to your mail service using the browser interface they provide. Delete all the e-mails you don't want on the server. That will prevent the iPad from downloading them.
