Checking or unchecking songs on itunes

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to select/check or uncheck songs in itunes. When I sync my ipod, sometimes I only want to update certain songs, and going through and checking/unchecking all of the songs is literally impossible and too time consuming.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Jen

It's easier to manage your music using playlists instead of checking/uncheckng songs.
Create playlists and add/delete from those playlists.
Select the iPod in iTunes, click on the Music tab.
Tick Sync music and Sync selected playlists.

To check or uncheck all boxes on a Mac with one click, hold down the Command (cmd) key and click on one of the checkboxes with the mouse.  You can use this in a library, a playlist or in search results.

I'm simply trying to get enough space to update my 5s because of the whole thing where you're phone needs room to install an update. I deleted over 100 songs off of my iPhone while in iTunes on my computer. I decided to sync to see if it would show up, but all that did was add the apps from other people's devices in my house. Then I disconnected and my phone froze. I plugged it back in, got the apple logo and it loaded again, but still it showed 825 songs on my iPhone while according to iTunes, I have 666 songs on my iPhone. What do I do?
All I wanted was to update my iPhone but as usual, Apple makes things 10x more complicated than they need to be.
Apple isn't making this 10x more complicated you are.
If you deleted the music why are you syncing back apps from other user on your computer?
Have you tried deleting the music directly from your phone and then update over the air?

  • How to mass check or uncheck songs to be synchronized?

Holiday songs are a good example of songs some may wish to have on their iPod part of the year. I use the check/uncheck feature to have them loaded on the iPod only when I want them there. By doing this, I don't have to listen to Christmas music when going into shuffle mode. QUESTION: is there a way to mass check or uncheck a group of songs instead of doing each song one at a time? My searching has come up empty on this point.

    Hello Meffley,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Not sure if there is way to accomplish what you are asking.
However, I can tell you that you can set these Christmas songs to "Skip when shuffling" by enabling this option for these tracks in iTunes. Just highlight all the songs you wish to have skipped when shuffling (to highlight multiple songs at once, hold down the Control key), right->click on them and choose "Get Info" from the Menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab. Make sure there is a tick mark next to "Skip when shuffling." Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.
When you wish to hear these songs in Shuffle Mode, go ahead and remove the tick mark and again sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • Can I Play "Checked " and "Unchecked" Songs on PC Automatically???

I want to Sync only checked songs from my Libray to my Ipod, so I don't use up all it's capacity. But, when I play songs from my PC, only the "checked" songs play automatically. It skips over the "unchecked" songs in any list. Is there a way to fix this so that all my songs on my PC will play together, or do songs need to be checked to play automatically in any list???

*do songs need to be checked to play automatically in any list???*
Yes they do. Using unchecking to manage an iPod is an option (and works fine when you are working with a small number of specialised tracks such as Christmas songs) but only if you can live with the other things unchecking does:
Unchecked songs will be skipped when playing songs from the library or a selection. They will only play when individually clicked on.
Smart Playlists have an option that unchecked songs won't appear.
Unchecked songs will not be burned to CD.
Genius will not use the songs that are unchecked.
Another method you can use to auto-sync your iPod with iTunes is "Sync Music - selected Playlists". Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). Drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod: Syncing Music to iPod

  • Why can't my mouse check and uncheck podcasts in iTunes 7.0.1.8?

For some crazy reason I no longer can check or uncheck podcasts with my mouse. I have to use the right-click menu to do this now. Has something changed with iTunes? This is weird.

  • I cannot check or uncheck podcasts in Itunes 12.

I am having trouble checking and unchecking podcasts when I want to sync my ipod. Usually I have to check the box beneath the one intended. Often can't uncheck a podcast at all, or another completely random box will check when I check a certain box. Does anyone have a solution to this? I never had this problem until I "upgraded" to Itunes 12.

I have had this same problem since ITunes 11. When I click the podcast I want to add, the button above that podcast is clicked instead. If there is only one podcast available, it will not click on that button at all. I have been clicking the podcast button under my device, clicking add, and dragging them over manually. However, due to continued syncing problems, I have to plug and unplug my iphone at least three times for it to work. I also have to reset my iphone. I have had this clicking problem since before the IOS change so that is not the problem. The syncing problems started with the IOS change. The last time I was able to sync podcasts normally was iTunes 10.  I have an iphone 5.

  • Checking and Unchecking Songs

I have an iPod mini (4GB), but my music library is much greater than that. Therfore, I have unchecked a lot of songs. However, I do not know how much space the checked songs take up (the ones that go on my iPod). Is there a way to make a smart playlist with just checked songs, so that I can add songs without having to connect my iPod and update it multiple times to get it inside the 4GB limit?
To make it simple, is there a way I can see how much room the checked songs take up?

select (highlight) them in iTunes. then right-click (or ctrl-click) and choose +uncheck selection+ from the pop-up menu.

  • Checked or unchecked songs in shuffle

Is there any way that i can play songs in shuffle without having to check them? I have only the songs i want on my ipod checked but i want to shuffle through all the songs on my itunes when im at my computer. Is there a way i can do this?

You need to put the songs you want on your iPod in their own playlist(s). Then have iTunes sync just those playlists to your iPod (in Preferences).

  • Can't check or uncheck songs when importing CD

I put in a CD and go to choose which songs I want to import and the check boxes are no longer there. I can't even go "select all" and "check all boxes". There are no boxes to check. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Ive had the same problem when im listening to my Ipod Touch i can hardly hear anything at full volume and i have multiple sets of head phones but what i have found to be effective is to almost put the earphones in this works best when listening to any You tube video to practice this with and it will become twice as loud. the dashes on you earphones plug into the jack should just barely be in.hope this helps.

  • ITunes - Sort by Checked/Unchecked songs

I don't actually spend a lot of time in iTunes, just load up the party shuffle and let it go, however, I'm wondering if I'm being dense.
I can't find any way to sort or find my songs by their "Checked" status. Does this feature exist?
    Dual G5 2.0 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

That feature doesn't exist, but you can create a smart playlist to find only checked or unchecked songs.
I recently posted it in another topic:

  • ITunes 11.1 is playing unchecked songs on shuffle.  How do I remedy this?

I am trying to simply play my entire library on shuffle, omitting the unchecked songs.  iTunes is still playing the ucheked songs.  How do I remedy this? Thanks, Redd

Funny, I'm having my library (radio stations) shuffle every so often, minutes. Shuffle is turned off. - since update.
I don't want it to shuffle, but it does. Trade you?
Some stations will just quit unexpectedly also. - can't figure out how to stop it. - tried trouble shooting, even with an Apple care tech. have to report back again. annoying.

  • Check marks all reset in iTunes 10

I have a lot more music in my library than would fit onto my iPod, and so have spent many, many hours checking and unchecking songs in my iTunes library so that only the checked songs synchronise with my iPod.
Yet now that I have upgraded to iTunes 10 this information has all been reset, and every song is now checked again.
It is so frustrating to have to do all of this again when it was set up perfectly before, why can't Apple just leave our settings alone?
Is there any way to get this information back or will I have to go through this whole process again? Or is there an easier way to choose which music gets synced to the iPod?
    Thanks

I wonder why it unchecked things on your PC? It left mine all alone - I have Christmas music unchecked most of the year.
try this quick test. Go into your folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries*. Find the one that has the most recent dat from when you upgraded to itunes 10. It will be named something like
    iTunes Library 2010-09-21.itl
Which would mean you upgrade to v10 on Sept 21, 2010.
    Close itunes
Copy & paste that ITL file to your desktop.
Press AND HOLD the shift key while starting itunes again. Keep pressing until you see the prompt to choose a library. Choose the one you just copied to your desktop. Are the checkmarks there?
There are some other steps to do if this works, but first make sure that old library database has the check marks.

  • Difference Between # of Songs in iTunes and Songs on iPod?

Is there a way to compare the songs in iTunes to the songs on my iPod and see the discrepancies? There is only a 1 song difference between the two out of 4800+ and I don't want to waste a lot of time looking for it. Actually, I won't bother but I'm kind of anal so it will drive me crazy.

One thing to check is if you have your iPod set to auto sync only checked songs and if so then scan your library and see if you have any songs that are NOT checked.
You can also check for unchecked songs with some Smart Playlist trickery. Create a Smart Playlist that only includes checked songs and just make a silly rule that will include your whole library (e.g. all songs that are not from the year 1111) and call it something like "Checked Songs". All your checked songs will go into that playlist. Now create a new Smart Playlist, leave the checked songs only box UNchecked and then make your rule all songs NOT in the Checked Songs playlist, which of course will simply be anything not checked.

  • Crossfade Playback & Unchecked Songs

The crossfade playback functionality works quite well and does what it is supposed to do except when the playlist contains both checked and unchecked songs. There's no crossfade at all when an unchecked song is encountered before moving on to the next checked song (I hope it's more or less clear what I mean).
Is there any way to get around this?
iMac G4 Flat Panel   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Rather than checking and unchecking tracks as your primary method of controlling what goes on the iPod, instead check your entire library then use playlists and smart playlists to group your stuff and you can then set up the iPod to ONLY sync playlists you pick.
For example, you might make a Smart Playlist limited to xx number of songs or xx gigs or whatever you want and the playlist is the stuff "Least Recently Played". Check live updating so this list is constantly updated. Now pick this as the playlist synced to your iPod. Each time you listen to stuff in iTunes or the iPod those items become the MOST recently played and will fall out of that list and be replaced with something new. Each time you sync your iPod, that list will refresh and you will get a constantly changing selection of stuff.
Of just create a normal (not Smart) playlist, pick that one to sync to your iPod and just manually add and delete stuff from it, keeping it under whatever space you have on the iPod. This gives you what you have now, but you can leave everything in your library checked.
