Checking Repair History on Used MacBook Pro

I'm thinking of buying a used MacBook Pro off of someone. I believe there is a link where you can check the units repair history via its serial number? Does anyone know where that link is on the Apple Website?
Thanks
JB

Apple only provides a limited amount of info regarding repair history and only usually if the repair was done under AppleCare.
The history may be linked to the Apple ID used at repair but I would not think so. In any regard I would try My Support Profile but I'm not sure how successful it will be. It told me I had 3 repairs done which was right, I had 2 iPhone repairs and 1 computer repair but it told no details beyond that and you may have to be the registered owner even to get that much.
You may need to look up My Support Profile on the Apple site. I cannot provide an unpersonalized link here.

  • How do I lookup my repair history for a macbook pro?

Have visited the applestore many times upon advice and guidance of senior advisor.  For three months the machine has been either not dependable, hanging, shutting down and had been repaied 3 times in a few weeks.  It is now totally inoperable.  Need to find repair history as posted by apple corp on internet.

Buy this adapter from Monoprice - worked just fine for me. I also purchased a 15' HDMI cable so I could sit back comfortably with my MBP.

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • How do I check the Specs on my Macbook pro ?

How do I check the Specs on my Macbook pro to make sure i have what i ordered? THe last time I wanted the SATA 7200rpm but they sent me the 5400. How do I see this on my mac? can't seem to find it.

Here is something i copied from another forum site that could answer your question-
Look in your "System Profiler", you can find it using Spotlight or looking for it in the Utilities folder, which is in your Applications folder.
This will give you the model number, which you will then have to find online (probably using Google) to find out what speed that particular model number is.
Then again, someone might have an easier answer.
"That's exactly what I did. My MacBook Pro has a Seagate Momentus ST9160823AS Drive in it. Running that model number, it shows a 7200 RPM speed."

  • Is it worth to get a used macbook pro

    hi, guys.
I am looking at a used macbook pro from early 2009 with configuration
    2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo

500 GB SSD hard-drive [which advertisement said it was upgraded at Apple Store for 600 dollars]

there's a dent on the right lower corner, which is acceptable.
the reason the guy sell it is that he got a new model.
why I plan to buy it is that I need to implment all kinds of programming stuff. I have a thinkpad with Ubuntu, but its wifi connection is very bad.

is it worth to invest a 4 years old macbook pro?
if i buy it, what should I check?
seller said 1000 dollars for the machine.
    thanks

It's worth 4 to 500 dollars, none of the 'extras' (the HDD and the Ram) make it any more valuable.
How long it will last is speculative, I have a G4 portable that is 8 years old and works fine still, and I have seen Macs die when switched on for the first time so ....
Offer 400, 500 max, if it lasts a year it was expensive, 2 years it was a fair price, 3 years and you got a deal.
One more thing, as it was delivered new wth Leopard or Snow Leopard you must INSIST on receiving the original discs that accompanied it, they can not be downloaded and you will need them.

  • What to look for when buying a used MacBook Pro? Tips

Here to acquire a few tips on purchasing a used Macbook Pro. I am not graced with an Apple Store in my area, so I must rely on my own sub par geek wit and with the help of yours.
    Tips I know.
Checking Battery Cycles and mAh capacity.
    Looking for third party applications.
    Request the original StartUp/Install Disks.
    Checking memory ratios...

Shop your local and nearby Craigslist websites, starting with:

Read this excellent post by frequent contributor JasonFear about buying and selling through Craigslist:

    Avoid Ebay.
If third-party applications or other software are included, they add nothing at all to the value of the machine unless you are given the original installer discs for them. Otherwise, they are just pirated software that you can't reinstall if you ever need to.

  • How to mirror to tv monitor using macbook pro 2012

how to mirror to tv monitor using macbook pro 2012.  The airplay is not displayed anywhere except I Tunes which only plays what is on I Tunes.

    Howdy there nell a-7,
It sounds like you are not seeing the Airplay icon in the menu bar on your Mac but you do see it in iTunes. I would use these steps from the following article to help troubleshoot the issue:
iOS: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215
    Try these steps first
Verify that your iOS device's software is up to date.
Verify your Apple TV's software is up to date.
Verify that your iOS device has Wi-Fi turned on. Enable Wi-Fi on your iOS device by going to Settings > Wi-Fi.
All AirPlay-enabled devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Some Wi-Fi network configurations offer a Guest Network. On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General >Network and ensure that you're connecting to the same Wi-Fi network on your iOS device. On your iOS device, tap Setting > Wi-Fi and confirm that this matches your Apple TV.
If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Ensure that you have followed the steps in using AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring. If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon  , try one of the following steps:
If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV, ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay.
Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices.
Some content requires an Internet connection to authorize content playback. AirPlay capabilities may be limited if your network is not connected to the Internet.
If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a website from your Safari app on your iOS device, confirm that the app or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the app or website for additional information).
Here is some additional information about Airplay for Mac:

  • Used Macbook Pro settings question

Bought a used Macbook Pro. How do I remove the old user, and all of his settings, or change his settings to mine? I really dont want to delete all and reinstall the operating system because he left alot of nice programs on it, without the disk, and I dont want to lose them. I am new from windows, and dont have any ideas, since I want to keep the applications. Thank you

The seller should have included the original installation/ restore discs that shipped with the MacBook Pro, as well as the original discs for all the the "nice programs" included on the Mac. (Possession of the discs confers the license to you, the new owner, and if he kept them he is violating the terms of use.)
If you have those discs, you should probably do a complete erase and install of the OS, wiping the hard drive (you never know what not-so-nice programs may have been left behind) and reinstalling the system and the applications afterward. You would do this by starting up from Disc 1 of the two Mac restore discs.
If the seller did not include the discs, contact him and ask for them, as 1) you protect yourself legally and 2) you may need those discs at some point in the future if you should ever need to restore your system or perform any kind of HD repair using Apple's Disk Utility. The discs also have the Apple Hardware Test which can diagnose various hardware issues you may experience. Apple will send you replacements of those discs (for a small fee) if you call AppleCare and tell them your Mac's serial number.

  • Used MacBook Pro iCloud help please

I just purchased a used MacBook Pro and when I went to put in my icloud information it tells me something about 90 days and all my apps that I have purchased for all my other Apple Devices will not transfer over.
Does this mean my icloud will not work for 90 days? I cannot seem to find a spot to run the icloud or back up on this computer like my ipad iphone and mac computer.
Any information would help me a lot
    Thank you!

The nearest Apple Store is 6 hours away from me and it ran out of warranty a month ago (of course ) so i don't know what to do. Just checked my computer and i got the 5010F error. Yay..

check that your current Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Specs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If it does... then you need to Purchase the Snow Leopard Disc and Install it.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
Would Also Recommend that you do a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive Before attempting any Major Upgrade...
By far the easiest way to make a Backup, is to use something like
    SuperDuper  http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    or CCC  http://www.bombich.com/

  • Registering a used Macbook Pro

Wanting to be certain in buying a used Macbook Pro, I've asked for the serial number of the machine, and now I want to check with Apple if this is a legitimate machine. I've checked with a site called Chipmunk which tells me where it was made, the model, etc. But not whether it has been registered. If I register the serial # with Apple, and it turns out to be stollen, am I then in the hot-seat? <Edited by Moderator>

  • Is it dangerous using macbook pro while charging?

Hi,did anyone experienced any electric issue when using macbook pro unibody while charging? When I use it during the recharge process the electricity pass trough my body.I can say that because one day when I was using it (with the hands on the keyboard) my girlfriend came and touched my face moving her hands on my cheeks and I felt a weird sensation like a vibration on my face so I unplugged the power cord leaving the hands on the keyboard (with palms near the trackpad) and I didnt feel it anymore. It is known that the electric fields can cause cancer.Am I in danger?I don't think it is a good thing that electricity pass trough my body anyway. There is any way to fix this problem?(a part of not using it while connected to the wall charger).Thank you

Some people are more sensative to EMF's then others. If there is a bad connection in your house or in your computer, then you may experience this more then others.
My guess is your house may have some faulty wiring somewhere and needs to be addressed. Get an EMF detector and see if you get spikes in the area of where your plug in your computer. Or rather, call an electrician who can check for these spikes around your house. Some houses, especially older ones, will have electrical problems, but even newer ones can have these since someitmes the laborer who installed it didn't know what they were doing or didn't bother checking.
get a surge protector for your electronics, especially your computer deivces.

Those are the partitions that the hard drive has got. The first one is the EFI partition, used to store firmware updates and install them in the next startup.
Macintosh HD is the partition where you have OS X and all your data, and Recovery HD is used to reinstall OS X, repair disks, and do other tasks like setting a firmware password. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • Bought used macbook pro old user's id keeps appearing in update software and greyed out so i can't change it to mine

Used macbook pro late 2011 model, under the 'Apple' when i clik 'update software' it goes to apple site with greyedout previous user's email address asking for their password, not my newly registered macpro and appleid.  How can I change this as previous user has now unregistered laptop?  upgraded to maverick os.

What you are entitled to is the MBP and the original OS that the MBP came with which is Lion and the associated applications.
In order to install Lion, you will have to boot your MBP with the OPTION COMMAND R keys held down.  That will connect you to the Apple servers and they will check your MBP.  A 4 option menu will appear.  Select the Lion installation option and install Lion.
Now your MBP will be registered in your name and you may open your own Apple account.  If you want Mt. Lion, then you will have to purchase it from the Apple online store.
    Ciao.
