Checking to see if I have Quicktime or Quicktime Pro?
I have Final Cut Pro installed and it comes with Quicktime Pro. When I go to my Applications folder I do not see Quicktime Pro, I only see Quicktime. How can I check Quicktime to make sure that Quicktime Pro is properly installed?

Apple Pro Apps User and the Registration Code is "Automatic."
FCP automatically activates QuickTime Pro. To verify, go to the System Preferences and click on the QuickTime icon. It should say:
Registered to: Apple Pro Apps User
Organization:
Registration Code: Automatic
Directly under the code, it should say QuickTime 7 Pro. Also, the logo at the left will have the word PRO overlaying the big blue Q.
And no, entering the above registration name and code won't work if you don't have FCP installed.

I installed the latest version as Administrator and am running as Administrator. I have all rights to all files on the PC.
When I attempt to create a PDF from any Word document, whether .DOC or .DOCX, I get an error window every time:
"Unable to open document:"
"[document location]"
"Please check to see if you have read permission for the above file."
This happens after the little notice pops up "Starting the application which created the document...."
If I open Word and create PDF from the ribbon, it works. It still won't allow me to create from Acrobat.
It creates PDFs from Excel files but not DOC files. I've searched for solutions but found none. I did find this from July of 2011:
"I have found out from Adobe technical support that this is a known issue with Office 2010 SP1 installed. This is an FYI for anyone else experiencing this issue, remove SP1 and it will work ok. They said an update to correct this issue will be coming within the next quarter."
I have updated to the latest version 10.1.2 and still have this problem.
This is a major issue, because it also fails on batch conversions, which is what I really need for the 100 or so documents that need to be PDFed. I'm not going to open each individual file and save each one from within Word.
This is a KNOWN ISSUE at Adobe, and if you look through the forums you'll find many people having this problem, and so far, I have not seen any solution.

BI think I found a solution. It seems to be relatet to normal.dotm.
In our environment we have upgraded from XP & Office 2003 to Win7 and Office 2010. Normal.dot is stored on the users home share. When Office 2010 is started for the first time (for a user) it takes some of the old stuff from normal.dot and puts it in the new normal.dotm. When this happens, we get this error in Acrobat X.
The solution is to rename both normal.dot and notmal.dot to e.g. normal.dot.old and normal.dotm.old. Office/Word 2010 will then create a new, "clean" normal.dotm.
(By the way, if you are in a corporate environment, you might have changed the default path to normal.dot in Office group policies. You can see it here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\14.0\common\general\usertemplates)
I would be interested in knowing exactly why/what in normal.dotm caused this error. I can provide you (Adobe) with a faulty normal.dot(m), if you're interested. -

How do I get a refund?Well, with apps genneraly you do get told ahead of time. I'm not sure of the current algorithm with movies though.
Why not just clear up some space? You can check your usage in your settings btw. -

Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above. -
Midi Files Don't Work In FCE..and I don't have Quicktime pro to export it

I have a MIDI sound file that will not import into the application. Also, I don't have quicktime pro to export that file to a mp3 or aiff.
Does anybody know if their is a free plugin that will allow me to export my midi file or import it into Final Cut.Try this, it may work -
Set iTunes Preferences > Importing > Import Using > AIFF Encoder
Set the AIFF Encoder preferences to 16 bit, stereo, 48KHz
Add the MIDI file to your iTunes library. This may convert your Midi file to AIFF.
If not, once the MIDI file is in your iTunes library,
Select the MIDI file in your iTunes library
Go to the Advanced menu and select 'Convert to AIFF'
Then export the AIFF file to your hard drive
Then import the AIFF into FCE -
In Itunes I don't have a listing in the column for "Devices" so I can check to see if my Iphone can sync all my new ringtones. I have one ready to go but cannot get it downloaded to my Iphone. Where is my "Devices" heading in the column on the left side of my Itunes page?

There is nothing new or separate to launch. When the QT 7.6.9 Player is keyed with your registration name and number, the player itself becomes the QT v7.6.9 "Pro" player with additional features "unlocked" for your use. For instance, if you have a QT compatible file loaded in your player and can now open the "Properties" window, then you have "Pro" feature access. In a similar manner, "File" menu transcoding and "Edit" menu features are now accessible. -

How do you backup registration information? Is this something done routinely by Time Machine?
Most of my applications have a registration code and either a purchaser name or email address. I am simply creating TextEdit files containing this information and storing them in a centralized folder which is then copied to each of my RAID drives for archiving, as well as, 2 USB thumb dives for mobile access. In addition, since Apple no longer backs up my QT MPEG-2 Playback component, I am storing the last three versions of this component on the same storage devices. As to Time Machine, it backs up changes to applications and documents which may or may not include the registration information depending on how it is stored relative to the application to which it refers. Unfortunately, I may manipulate hundreds of GBs of video data in a single day so I had to turn off Time Machine because it was not able to keep up will all the changes. The Time Machine-like routines that track changes at the application level under Lion are good enough for my normal daily work. My main interst is the protection of several TBs of archived documents and projects on the external RAID drives. If push comes to shove on the main system, I can always re-initialize/replace the internal drive and re-install the System OS and applications. (I.e., I don't keep anything on the internal or external boot drives that I can't afford to lose.) -

Hello--I have Final Cut Studio (version 2) and an iMac from last year (running OS X 10.5.8).
I've read a lot about the functionality Quicktime Pro adds for Final Cut Studio owners (mainly changing things to different formats, I guess). Anyway, I was just on Wikipedia, and it says that Final Cut Studio comes with a Quicktime Pro License. But, when I open Quicktime, it is just Quicktime Player 7.6.6.
How do I upgrade? Is Wikipedia right; did Final Cut Studio come with a Quicktime Pro license? If so, how do I activate it?

I need to run Quicktime Pro and playback DVD with mpeg-2 content for school. I just downloaded Quicktime Pro, and purchased the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for Windows, but I can't download it at all. Is this because my PC is running Windows 8.1?

You actually have several options. However, since you specifically want to use it it with MPEG Streamclip, the easiest approach would be to download the MPEG Streamclip "Beta" package for the Mac which includes a utility app that will help install the QT MPEG-2 Playback component on Lion and later operating systems. It was easy to assign a "transparency" color in previous versions of QuickTime Pro. Just open the "Color Wheel", pick your color and QuickTime Pro would use it to mask your .gif file.
In version 7 you only get to use a "mask" (useless on a motion graphic like an animated gif) or pick either a "level" of opacity (also shows the background).
Open the Movie Properties window (Pro only) and highlight the video track.
Click the "Visual Settings" tab and you'll notice "Transparency" options (lower left under the Mask).
Older versions of QT Pro also allowed "blends" of this transparent color.
I used to use a gaudy Pepto Bismol pink as my transparent color. Now I must be sure to include an alpha channel (black or white) in my imported images. This means your .gif must also either black or white as the transparent color.
