Cheque and PO Printing / Discoverer Report Publishing

Greetings,
We are contemplating the purchase of OBI Standard Edition One. I have read much of the product information, and would like an opinion from actual users:
1) Can Cheques and Purchase Orders (that have been generated out of E-Business Suite) be printed using OBISE?
2) Can OBISE be used to publish discoverer reports as PDF files to network folders or email addresses, and can this be scheduled to be done say weekly, etc? Or, do we need the EE (enterprise edition) to do this?

Actually, that's a good point.
If Discoverer can print to XML, then an XML engine kind of program (hint: XML Publisher) might be able to process it and export to your format.
Newer - ie: to come - versions of Disco are supposed to be woven tighter with XML Publisher (actually BI Publisher now) so may be better in a later version.
For now though, sure sounds like you might want to look into doing the XML printing and have XML Publisher handle it or ... just have this report use XML Publisher exclusively and not use Discoverer at all (... did I say that? ... on a Disco forum?).

USER UNABLE TO REFRESH DISCOVERER REPORT IN DISCOVERER DESKTOP 10g

Dear All,
HELP!!!
A new user is unable to refresh discoverer Reports in Desktop. All priviledges have been granted to username in Disco Admin and Usre is able to log into oracle Apps.
On the PC the user logged into someone else can log into Discoverer Desktop and run/refresh discoverer reports without any issues. Hence Ithink neither the PC nor the Discoverer installation is the problem.
Can anyone help? What setup/profile needs to be completed in order for the user to be able to run Disco reports.
Pls note that the following has been completed:
1. Business Areas Assigned to user and his responsibilities.
2. Desktop/Plus Privileges assigned.
3. Allow administration - DISABLED - NOT TICKED

Does this person just need to run reports? Or does this person also need to create reports? If the person just needs to run reports, try using Viewer for that person, rather than Desktop. This may be something that you need to log a service request with Oracle to get resolved. Pretty strange that can bring items into a new worksheet, but it won't run. Maybe there is an Oracle applications security issue (since logging in as another person does work)? You may be beating your brains out trying to find a Discoverer problem when it might be an application security problem. Though this is a wild guess on my part.

XML report publisher doesnt open in Excel directly but opens in Browser

I have run a seeded FSG report with XML as output option and then ran XML report publisher to this request with Output as EXCEL but When I click the View Output button the output opens in Browser. I want it to open in EXCEL.
How to do this?

Open Control Panel
Open Folder Options
Click File Types
Locate "XLS Microsoft Excel Worksheet" -- Tip: Quickly scroll to items beginning with 'X' by pressing the 'X' key on the keyboard.
Click the Advanced button.
Highlight the default action (often Open), which is bold.
Check the box that says "Confirm open after download" and if "Browse in the same window" is checked, uncheck it.
Click Ok.

GL security works for one report and not for other report.

Hi everybody,
We have setup GL security and for our discoverer reports we are calling
APPS.GL_SECURITY_PKG.VALIDATE_ACCESS( sl.SET_OF_BOOKS_ID,gl.CODE_COMBINATION_ID ) = 'TRUE' in the query.
Now among 3 reports, 2 are working fine but one report is not showing any data if i use the above condition.
Hint: That particular report is based on a Materialized view.
Any ideas??

condition in the folder in Admin, its not recognizing the Apps.GL_SECURITY_PKG.VALIDATE_ACCESS....

Report printing w/ BI Publisher and group by data

I'm attempting to test BI Publisher for use here and am seeing a problem. It seems that when I have a report query that uses a group by clause, I get an empty report in BI Publisher. It works fine for non-group by stuff. Am I not supposed to do group by/ summaries in the underlying query? I'd just much rather do it there than in the APEX report...

I believe the closest you will get is using FOP. BI Publisher can NOT deal with the interactive portion of the IR reports. You need a static rtf file to build BI Publisher reports and with the IR reports ability to add/drop columns and such, it is NOT possible to do it at this time..

Discoverer Report Printing

Options in Publishing Discoverer Report output

What are my options around publishing scheduled discoverer reports to the oracle ebusiness login page similar to the notifications list. Have a requirement to publish daily reports to the user and have seen report manager functionality to create as menu items for BI Publisher reports but I am not clear on my options for discoverer.

Printing of XML publisher report

Hi All,
This is in regards to the printing of XML publisher report in Oracle E-Business Suite.
we have a XML Publisher report in Oracle EBS,which generates the output in PDF without any issues. But the same output is printed in XML Tags when it goes to the printer.
Can you please throw some light why this is happening only for this particaular report,other XML reports in the system does not have this problem.

I do not think it is possible to send all the pages to one tray and send only the last page to a different tray. However, you may review the following notes:

Physically printing a report from Apex using BI Publisher

Hi,
I know it is possible to generate and download a PDF (or any other format) in Apex using BI Publisher (Apex 4.0.2)
But is it possible to physically PRINT a report in a specified printer? For example, the user clicks a button and the report comes out of the printer just like that.
Note: I am NOT after a solution where the report is firstly displayed on the screen and then the user performs some action to print it from there (that is pretty easy to do.)
I know that BI Publisher can do it, as its web service has an option to do so.

not sure this is possible.
Only SOME of the features of BI Publisher are used from APEX as a service to create the reports.
*) I am not aware of any parameters / attributes in APEX so that you could specify a printer directly
*) It is not part of the API you could use instead manually:

I have just recently implemented that myself for an integration with JasperReports. It is currently in beta test:

Thus your options are:
*) I am not sure that BI publisher allows that but perhaps you could first call the apex utility function apex_util.get_print_document to retrieve the blob from bi publisher. Then perhaps (if allowed) send the blob again by yourself and using the print features of bi publisher.
Here you would have to write the utl_http communication yourself.
*) If bi publisher doesn't allow the separate process (generation first and then sending it to a printer) then you would also have to write a j2ee application which does that.
*) another option could be to store the generated blob in the filesystem on the database and call a shell script from within the database. This shell script would send it to the network printer.

I have successfully managed to integrate Oracle Discoverer and Oracle BI Publisher.I also can access the Reports from Discoverer in Oracle BI Publisher. I was trying to apply custom templates to the Discoverer reports.Is it possible to apply custom templates (.rtf) to Oracle BI publisher reports? Is this possible?

Hi, thanks for quick response. We have huge numer of reports, we copied them one after the other still doesn't work. Below are details.
Repository path(xml-server-config.xml) : /app/oracle/oracle/xmlp/XMLP
under this we have a folder structure : FCReports, in which we copied all the folders.
After logging onto BI URL, click on more... you will see the folder FCReports name but nothing shows up under this. Any file or any other permissins to be checked.? This folder does have read/executable permissions.

Printing issue in Oracle discoverer report

We are facing an issue in printing the discoverer report.
When we ran the discoverer report, we are getting the output, in a perfect way.
But when we try to print the report, the report is printing with junk characters.
We tried printing this report in multiple printers with multiple log in but of no luck.

Printing long Discoverer reports(25 columns)

Hi Gurus,
The discoverer reports are columnar reports and long sometimes(having 25 columns). Is there a way to print a discoverer report so that it fits in one page if it does not fit into portrait and landscape page setups?

You can apply a scaling factor to your report: I believe you can specify upto a 10% value, which means the report will be shrunk to 10% of its size. This should allow you to print a wide report without having the columns wrap to a second page. Though I am not sure how readable such a report would be. You could alternately choose a wider paper size.

Open discoverer report in new browser window and without connections page

We are using Oracle 11g Discoverer 11.1.1.4. Requirement is to open the discoverer report in a new browser window and without connections page.
When we are running discoverer reports with this parameters we unwantedly get the connections page of the discoverer plus which we don't want.
Went through the documentation given in this page and followed it still the issue persists, and i see couple of threads with my issue and no updates.

Print the report on page has width larger than height and not landscape mode

Hi,
I'm trying to print report on page (Width: 18cm, Height: 13cm) which the width larger than the height.
The problem is windows keeps changing the page oreintation to landscape and when I change it back to portrait its changing the width to 13cm and height to 18cm.
I'm using dot matrix printer to print the report, if i put Landscape , printer is printing the text in horizontal.
Already i have tried to setup the custom for on printer, and used custom page size but it is changing to landscape.
I need to print the report with out preview, direct print top printer, NO PDF....

After testing the issue in my environment, I can reproduce it. When I set (Width: 18cm, Height: 13cm) as the Report Page size, it would automatically convert Orientation from Portrait to Landscape. Because the Orientation displayed is dependent on the page
width and page height of the report.
But in my scenario, the Orientation option just change the Width and Height sizes, it couldn’t affect the text rotation. I guess this issue can be caused by the printer and printer driver, please try to update them. Reference:

How to print a report in BI Publisher 11g

Currently I am in interactive mode and i dont see any "Print Report " option anywhere.
What i am doing is going to pdf option and then opening a report in pdf format and then printing it.
