Chequered Video on Mountain Lion
I'm getting a chequered video whenever I try to play video using the DVD Player and iTunes.
The output I am using is a HDMI connection to a Sony AVReceiver which in turn connects to a Samsung TV.
I had no problems running on this configuration using Lion and Snow Leopard. Anyone got any solutions or is it a
downgrade on the cards?
Thanks.
A quick follow up. This problem is also happening when I connect the Mac Mini to a DVI monitor.
I've reinstalled Lion and still no difference.

I had Leopard on may Mac. I upgraded to Mountain Lion using Snow Leopard. I can't use my video with Mountain Lion. Can I load Snow Leopard on an external hard drive so I can use it with my camera?
First, you cannot do this if you have a Boot Camp partition.
Second: Create a new partition.
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed. (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss. Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Third: Install Snow Leopard.
Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD. Follow instructions for installation being sure that before you actually install Snow Leopard you have selected the new partition as your target destination.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading. -
Can anyone help as I can no longer record classical music video after Mountain Lion upgrade?
Hi,
Before my upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion,I could record video from Medici tv using Jaksta with no problems.
Since Mountain Lion, I can still record with Jaksta - but when played back on iTunes the recordings break up and are unwatchable.
Any ideas and possible solutions gratefully received
Les
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 MHz RAMO.K I have worked out how to fix it.I first went back to Medici tv where I read '' Software requirements are
Flash Player version 11 recommended ".So I have installed that. The point about that is-I presume- that I must
have had it there when using Medici successfully in Snow Leopard. So it looks like FP must have been
uninstalled by me in error at some time !! D'oh!
Then I found that FP uses RTMP and( I think HTTP ) protocols. In Jaksta preferences I had been previously
advised to uncheck " Always record HTTP and RTMP streams ".Having now rechecked those options, my
ability to record from Medici is restored.
However this all happened ,I'm up and running again.
Thanks for your interest varjak paw ,much appreciated.

No Video After Mountain Lion Upgrade - MBP17" (2011)
Hello,
I just attempted to upgrade my 2011 MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion on Saturday and now I have no video when I turn the computer on.
The upgrade went smoothly but on the final reboot I had no video come back.
I've restarted the computer a dozen times using the power button, I hear the tri-tone and my keyboard lights up ..all but without video.
I've tried a SMC reset, PRAM reset and even tried an external monitor plugged in.
I previously upgraded my MacBook Air and the upgrade went fine.
Any thoughts or comments? I'm planning to bring it to an Apple Store in the next day or two if I can't resolve this on my own.Hi
did you have any luck with it yet?
I have experienced the same thing - but on a Mac mini...
Thx.

No volume with some YouTube videos in Mountain Lion
I've installed Mountain Lion and the latest Flash player and find that certain YouTube videos (some, not all) play without any volume, completely silent. A full reboot didn't help. Here are a couple of examples that videos without volume:

IPhoto 9.3.2 does not import video. Mountain lion
Hello,
When I try to import video to iPhoto It says "the following file could not be imported. The file is an unrecognized format."
This happens with iphone or sony camera video. Quick time play bouth of the videos. Start to happen after mountain lion upgrade.
Any help will be great.
Thanks a lot, AllanWell this is the cause of your problem then:
I use the library in a NAS with SMB protocol
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
So this problem - and others - will pop up with increasing regularity as time goes on.
So, move the Library to an appropriately formatted disk. See if the videos will import then. If not then
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

No video and only sound when playing itunes store video on Mountain Lion
Hi everyone,
Since I upgrade to Mountain Lion, the video on iTunes Store (with the last iTunes version 10.6.3.) doesn't show any video but only audio.
On the video screen there is just a mosaic of white and grey square.
I tried to reinstall iTunes, but it doesn't change anything.
Could you please help me on that.
Thanks.
W.Exactly the same issue now. Did you solve it?
Thanks for letting me know how! -
How do I use the AirPlay Mirroing on my mac with Mountain Lion ?
How do I use the AirPlay Mirroing on my mac with Mountain Lion ?
I watched the video about Mountain Lion, but the airplay icon can't appear on my menu bar.
WHY ?i have a MacBook Air (Early 2011)
and it doesn't support the airplay mirroring ,,, the only things that the failed to do is " MENTION IT "
it wouldn't hurt anyone if they just say it's limited to Late macs ,,,, i really wanted that feature and i updated my mac so i can watch movies on my HD screen ,,,,
i hope they made and update for it ,,, otherwise i have to wait another 4 months to get a new macbook pro -
i got a macbook pro 13 inch core i5 late 2011 , it came with osx lion and i been using facebook videocalls normaly , now i updated to Mountain lion
but when i use facebook video calls in (safari ,chrome ) i see the window box but i only see my self i can hear my friends but cant see em, they also can see me and hear me but i just see me and hear them .
any ideas ?Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

Video "Dropouts" with FCS and Mountain Lion
I would like to see if anyone else is having this problem and maybe save some folks from the experience.
I have two macs.
#1- Imac, 2.93, core 2 duo, 4g ram, 24".
#2-Macbook Pro, 17", 2.53, 4g
4t g-raids
Clean Install done on Imac of Mountain Lion. Reloaded fcs.
Did NOT touch macbook. Still running Snow Leopard.
Working on large video job...1080 60i, avchd, panny cam.
Went to transfer footage using all usual settings.
Video on imac looked like "old school" video drop outs. As you can imagine, it was a long night to figure this out.
Erased footage and hooked up my g-raids to the Macbook. Looked fine.
Took hard drives back to imac, tried transfer again. Stuttering and drop outs continued.
Back to Macbook with Snow Leopard, no problems. My guy is editing job right now on Macbook.
I am in the middle of a clean install of Snow Leopard on the imac. I'm gonna have to send the "boys" out to get my $20 bucks back from Apple.
Thought I'd post it in case someone sees same thing and thinks they are crazy.
Mountain lion could not capture footage without drops. Snow Leopard (my trusty os) did it all.
Shocked I say, Apple....Shocked. (Not really, been down this road before) Never believe what they say. Don't upgrade unless forced by gunpoint. This is the FCP X forum - you should ask this question in the Final Cut Studio forum:

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?
It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

after upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer, love film or even directly off my iTunes library. in each case, all i get is a black screen and no error message.
Hi, i had the same problem and tried this,
Somehow iTunes is tied to Safari. Try this:
Someone mentioned to clear all website data and history in safari, stupid but it was either this or the below that fixed it
or this,
Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services
Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.
Please let me know if it works. -
After upgrading to mountain lion, my ip camera video feeds time out
I've been using my iMacs for a few years to monitor six ip Camera video feeds. The cameras I use are both FOSCAM and AXIS brands. I've used a few third party software solutions to do the monitoring, but I could also always use Safari to access a camera at a time by putting that camera's IP address in the address field and logging into the camera.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my video feeds started timing out when using DComplex's IP Camera Viewer, so I thought initially it was strictly an issue with that third party app. However, I then logged into my cameras using Safari and they timed out as well. Similarly, when using Axis Camera viewer, my video feeds would time out. It seems as whatever the issue, it does not affect Firefox, because I can still login and monitor 1 feed at a time using that browser without any timeout issues, and for some odd reason, the FOSCAM only program uFoscam works, but the problem for me with that app is that it only works with Foscam, and not the Axis cameras (besides it's an inferior program to IP Camera Viewer in my opinion as well).
Has anyone encountered this problem and come up with a solution? I'm thinking it's some sort of plugin or video codec problem, but it's well above my paygrade to figure it out.I'm having the same problem with both my Vivotek wired network camera and Panasonic wireless network cameras. At first I thought this was an issue with the video framework in Mountain Lion, but if Firefox is working (I haven't tried it yet), it sounds like it may be an objective-c video library that has been changed. It's possible Firefox is using an objective-c interface that calls an objective-c function that isn't called by Safari or IP Camera Viewer, etc., (possibly a function that is on its way to be deprecated) or Firefox could use it's own library that directly calls the video framework.
Could be the Mountain Lion objective-c framework has a buffering issue.
Since this is occuring in both 3rd party software and Apple software, it sounds like it's an Apple issue. 3rd party applications typically utilize the Apple Developer objective-c frameworks to access video frameworks/libraries (for example, MJPEG). Thus, contacting 3rd party developers may not solve the situation (unless they can figure out a temporary bandaid--possibly figuring out the video framework call that Firefox uses and patching their software to do the same (not a simple task), but could still provide more feedback to Apple via their developer status.
Has anyone attempted to record from their cameras via iMovie or Final Cut Pro X HD? I will try mine later tonight to see if it records the hanging. If it does, then it's looking more and more like Apple's the culprit.
My suggestion is for everyone to file a bug report via http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html -
After upgrading to Mountain Lion it's not possible to play videos in Fullscreen Mode
Hello everyone,
after upgrading to Mountain Lion on my iMac (27 inch, Mid 2011) I got the problem, that every video or movie in full-screen mode jiggles after a while. I'm using my Mac as a TV with Elgato EyeTV - and usualy I use it in full-screen mode.
A complete new installation from scratch didn't solve my problem.
If the problem occurs, the processor idles ans the hard-disk activity is low.
Is there anybody out there, who can help me?
Regards,
StephanIf the issue only occurs when watching TV (using Elgato) then it's an issue on their side. Try a browser window and if can view the browser in full screen mode then that proves the point. You can also create another user account, log into that account and see if the issue is still there. If it disappears then you have an issue in your normal user account that needs to be tracked down. If the issue persists then your issue is global.
