Chess game that is peer to peer for Mac?

Hello all. Anyone know of a chess game that can be played over the internet that is peer to peer? I know there are many chess games that can be played over the internet, but we would just like to launch a chess game and play each other without having to go to a third party server.
Thanks,
Apple //GS

Big Bang Chess, part of Freeverse's Big Bang Board Games allows you to enter in the IP address of some with whom you wish to play, so that looks like it would do what you want, though I've not tried it.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • At first I was using my father's icloud account in my iPad and now I use mine. I still have the games that I have been playing for over a year like that itself but when I clicked the upgrade button they r asking for my father's iCloud pass.how 2 upda

i am using an iPad mini and I had been using my father's iCloud account to purchase apps in app store and now I changed the iCloud account to mine. But the apps still remain purchased in my father's account and not in mine. Now I have to update my apps to use them(I have been using it for over a year) when I click update button they r asking for the passcode of my father's account. So I can't update it. And I also need to update it. What can I do! How can I purchase the same game with the same progress in my iCloud account.

Yes, if you repurchase it you may lose your progress. The exception would be a game that stored all your progress on a server under your ID
If you want to retain your progress you have two choices:
    1. Don't apply the update.
    2. Use your fathers account password to update the game.

  • Running Game on windows XP with Bootcamp for Mac. Problems.

Im not sure if it is even relevant that im running windows xp on mac via bootcamp, I have played many other games on it such as Age of Conan, Fallout, Bioshock and Left for Dead, i.e it can run graphically demanding games.
Every time I boot it up, it plays fine for about half an hour, then my computer screen goes black and the computer restarts. I however it gets stuck in the restarting process and i need to turn it off then on again.
Sony online entetainment were little help. Has anyone any ideas?

    Hi Bebjiahome;
Still I don't use anything from Microsoft, I am not the best one to ask for that one. A better place to ask would be the Boot Camp Forum where the Windows users tend to hang out.

  • What is the best email that is similar to gmail for macs?

I am tired of having to deal with the "all mail" tab and it making doubles of all of my email. When the icloud comes out i was thinking of giving it a try, but are there any suggestions?  I also have a blackberry so keep that into consideration   i want an iphone again and will be getting one soon.

If you are using Mail to connect to GMail, note that there's a solution to the All Mail issue.  See Hiding GMail’s “All Mail” from Apple Mail*.  That solution should also hide it from an iPhone or Blackberry connecting to GMail via IMAP.
If you're just using the web interface for GMail, any other web-based e-mail system would work.  None will be very similar to GMail.

  • Replaced an older IMac that had OS snow leopard and could run microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. I'm told that this version of Office for Mac will not run on OS mountain lion. Is this true? or is there a workaround?

... and have only used Word and hate to try to learn something new if not necessary.
The dirty little secret that they are keeping from you, is YES, there is a way to continue to use Microsoft Office's Word 2004 in Mountain Lion!
It is to install Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8 on your new Mac and then install and run Word 2004 there:
Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only). Parallels 8 retails for $79 but can be found for less searching for discounts on the internet.
Personally I hate the way Microsoft has changed Word 2008 and Word 2011, because I was 100% comfortable with how Word 2004 was setup and utilized.  There is a learning curve to both of these upgrades and a more steeper one to the "free" alternatives that were suggested to you.
In a perfect world, you should upgrade to Office 2011; I did (actually it was a gift, but the price was not an object for me anyway). But the world is not perfect...
So, if, like me, there are times that you are most comfortable operating in the Word 2004 environment, my suggestion offers you a easy, stable, relatively inexpensive means to continue to do so in Mountain Lion.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Dumping a windows pc that still has good hardware for mac....

    Hello All!
I am and have only ever been on a windows (and dos) based pc and with the switch to intel cpu's I have become extremely interested in making the switch from windows. More really from seeing how fun/cool/stable the Mac OS seems to be and the growing frustration I have been having with windows (virus, spyware, crashes, hardware issues).
I have a pc that I built 3 years ago. With the exception of the video card (and i can upgrade it), it is still a great computer and would easily last me another 2+ years.
My question is this. Would you dump a windows based pc that is still considered "current" just to move over to OsX? Has anyone done this? If so what are your thoughts?
I have no real requirements to do gaming at this point, or pro apps, and by and large what I am doing on my windows pc looks to be available with new iMac. And anything that is not, I would not miss.
My obsession with this probably dictates I should just do it (and I know my wife would be happy to talk about something else). However, I'm trying to be practical about it all as I could live with whatever heartache comes my way by sticking with windows until it is absolutely necessary from an aging hardware perspective to get a new PC.
    Regards,
    Leonard
      Windows XP

About a month ago, I was in the same boat as you. I have been building my own PC's for years. Before I bought my iMac on Jan. 20th , I was running an Athlon64 3200, eVGA 660GT, 2MB of high end RAM, dual DVD burners, 500MB RAID 0+1 and some premium sound. I mainly used my PC for music editing, WoW, web development and some graphics design and of course modding! My computer has looked and acted like a MAC for the last two years through the use of programs like WindowsBlinds and StyleXP. But what a pain! Along with the usual Windows issues, everytime I re-installed the OS (about every 6 months due to installing/re-installing a lot of apps for development) I had to go through the process of setting EVERYTHING up again. This took me up to 3 days sometimes to get it all working.
So why did I switch? PRODUCTIVITY. In just a short month, and without ever having actually tried OS X, I feel like I get tons of more work done when I sit down at the keyboard. Installing programs is a breeze, file management is godly and even under Rosetta all of the "pro" apps I used on the PC are amazing. I still use the PC for web site checking and programming in .NET, so I know I will never be able to get rid of it.
Oh yeah...there is nothing like streaming songs in iTunes from the 2nd floor of our loft to the stereo downstairs while I'm working. Flawless.
Don't be worried, I am confident that OS X and the Macs themselves offer enough so that anyone who is remotely fed up with Windows will find something that suits them.

  • In Adobe reader:  How can I edit a letter that I created in Word for mac, and then STUPIDLY saved as a pdf?

There seems to be no way to delete content, and replace it with other content.

If you don't have the Word document anymore, you may be able to export the pdf to a Word document using either the 30 day trial of Adobe Acrobat Pro or by subscribing to Adobe ExportPDF (available in the newest version of Reader) for a month.

  • Chess game in Mac OS X is there a bug fix for it

This is not a major issue but I have noticed it on all the Apple computers I have played the Chess game that comes with the Mac OS X and it seems to only involve the Pawn making an illegal move when capturing another piece. As we all know the Pawn can only capture by one space in a diagol move yet the Mac OS X supplied Chess game a Pawn will and can often capture an opponents piece that is directly next to it, yet still moves in diagnol fashion and for the same token this illegal move can is sometimes offered to me if I ask for a move hint. This is very frustrating as I play the supplied chess game often is there a fix for this bug

    Hello again Daniel...
I found a thread where "cornelius" suggested corrupt preferences as a potential cause for Chess problems...
His solution was to go to your Home > Library > Preferences and drag your com.apple.Chess.plist to the DeskTop and Restart your computer and reopen the Chess game...see the link

  • How to create chess game using Adobe flash CS3

I want to develop a web application that when a user is login the game will automatically search for oppents onlinethat are accessing the same website. I want to design a chess game that does not contain any AI programming. What I want is that a simple chess setup that online user can only play.

use google to search for tutorials.  that's a very complex undetaking so unless you feel you have advanced programming skills, you would be better served starting with a simpler game like tic-tac-toe.

  • Chess game

I need guidance on how to model a chess game that involves two human players. Since this a Java oriented game and I am a new user as well as a learner, I need to be guided on the number of classes that can be incorporated in this game as well as the substantial roles of each class. I have tried examining some of the classes to involve the Board class, Piece class, legal move checker which extends board as well as the GUI on which the entire game shall be run. I need guidance on how I can join all the classes as well as some hints on attributes and operations that shall be involved in these classes.
I have been thinking of sub classifying the piece class into sliding pieces and the non sliding pieces as well as representing pieces as images on the board. In my game, Enpassant rule is not operational, the pawn piece does not become updated at the end of the board and the castling rule does not apply too.
I need to have my players on the same computer not on different computers or the Internet.

As a new user/learner, you should try something a little less ambitious like checkers, and if thats too hard, Tic Tac Toe. It may sound like im joking about your abilitys, but creating Tic Tac Toe using classes for X's O's and the Board, will give you the basic understanding of how classes interact with each other, and how to design a basic object oriented game.
It's only a small step from Tic Tac Toe, to Chess IMHO since chess only adds more game logic rules, but the class scenario is going to function pretty much the same, only more methods and rules to follow. Once you reach the point of creating the chess game, it's only a matter of creating a basic piece thats extended by all the various piece types who define their own movement rules.

  • Chess game hangs in Leopard

    Hi:
This isn't really an earth-shattering problem, but I've found that the Chess game that is resident in Mac OS hangs up in Leopard. I'll be playing a game, and all of a sudden, the computer will simply not make a move, and that's it. Can't undo, can't go forward. Doesn't seem to matter whether I have the computer set to play stronger or faster.
This never happened in 10.4 on my old Quicksilver G4, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience or insight into this?
    Thanks.

The problem seems to be a bug in the logic, although I have not looked at the code to confirm it. For those that have the time, I have included the game log to cause the game to fail. From that, you should be able to identify the problem and offer a fix. Note, the earlier Chess version (2.1) running on Tiger does not seem to have the same bug, but the issue it could very well be an OS issue.
Chess version 2.3, running Leopard on MacBook Pro.
    Player is White; Computer is Black (obviously);
    Moves:
    1. d2-d4 d7-d5
    2. h2-h4 a7-a5
    3. h4-h5 a5-a4
    4. Nb1-c3 Nb8-c6
    5. e2-e4 e7-e5
    6. e4xd5 Nc6xd4
    7. Ng1-f3 a4-a3
    8. b2-b3 Nd4xf3
    9. Qd1xf3 Bc8-d7
    10. g2-g4 Bf8-d6
    11. Nc3-e4 Bd6-b4
    12. c2-c3 Bb4-e7
    13. g4-g5 f7-f5
    14. g5xf6 Ng8xf6
    15. Ne4xf6 g7xf6
    16. h5-h6 Rh8-g8
    17. Qf3-h5 Rg8-g6
To get Chess to "hang", White has to place the Black Rook at G6 in jeopardy by either moving White's Rook at H1 to G1 or White's Bishop at F1 to D3...either move will cause Chess to "hang" as Black never recovers and makes a move. The bug is inconsistent in that moving White's Rook at H1 to H2 and then from H2 to G2 does not cause the bug, but moving White's Bishop from F1 to E2 and then to D3 when Black's Rook at G6 is exposed (Black moves pawn F6 to F5 and then to F4) does cause the bug.
On my system, this is the only time it hangs. Higher skill levels have never caused Chess to hang.
    Happy Bug Hunting.
First one to fix it wins.
