Children's Start-up Looking for Flash Site Designer

New Los Angeles based children's media start-up is looking
for a creative independant Flash website developer. Please send
links to [email protected] or post them in this forum. This
project needs to be completed by 12/31/06.
Thank you,
David

Hi Hugh
Rather than attempting to find those files, I suggest you lock the Shared Object folder. This precludes any Flash cookie info from being written to your HD.
To do so, go to the Finder and navigate to the Macromedia folder - Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. Continue drilling down to the Shared Objects folder. Now, simply move to the trash the contents of the Shared Objects folder. Once the folder is empty, click on the Shared Objects folder, Command/I to open its Info panel and click on the Locked option, then close the panel.
From here on out, no information will be written to that file. I did this awhile ago and have not had any adverse effect from locking the folder.

  • Anyone familiar with using Photoshop Elements for Flash site design?

l am seeing a tutorial using ''elements'' and wonder if l can simply use PhotoshopCS4?
lf so, is the process similar or not to using elements?

    Hi,
You can use Photoshop CS4.  The process is the same but Photoshop CS4 is more powerful and can do more stuff.

  • Looking for a site that shows problems with windows patches or updates.

Looking for a site that shows problems with windows patches or updates...so I know what not to install.
Plenty of sites list and summarize individual patches, I want one that consolidates problems and complaints so I can better assess the risk. Currently I'm waiting to install patches several days and doing google searches. That works, but I'd rather find a place
    that does it with expertise.
Which forums would be best to look for such problems.
Thanks in and advance for suggestions

    Hi,
I agreed with Cyber and Rick.
Windows update helps to keep your PC safer—and your software current—by fetching the latest security and feature updates from Microsoft via the Internet.
Although there might be some problems when installing it, Windows update is not the one to blame.

  • What is the Firefox start page looking for when it tells me I'm not using the most current version and need to update Firefox? The check for updates button says my version is up to date, but the start page disagrees. Is there a setting I need to adjust?

Okay: My start page is the one Google provides: http://www.google.ca/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official and frequently it has a note underneath the search box that "You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!" But when I check for updates on the About Firefox window, it says my Firefox is up to date. So what is the start page looking for? Is there some setting I need to adjust? Or is this a Google marketing ploy to get me to switch to Chrome?

I tentatively think I have the solution; this is for when the session id value 'thing', in about:config, referred to in other answers is already on the default/rest state.
I am assuming, I don't what to imply certainty in-case there is a value wrong in our browsers, that the problem stems from the fact that our homepage is no longer the default for Firefox.
So, go to 'Options'>'General' and delete the homepage. This will reset it to the new address, which is 'about:home'.
I hope this helps some people.

  • Looking for Free Site Search

I'm looking for a Site Search script (hopefully free) for **
windows servers ** that works like ones I've used in UNIX.
One of the great features the UNIX program has is the ability
to define or restrict the files and folders to be gone through in
the search. (define to INCLUDE .htm, .html, .php, etc only...
EXCLUDE files and folders e.g. /stats, /cgi-bin folders, .js files,
    etc.).
I'm new to windows servers and dreamweaver so I'm a bit in
    the dark here.
Any good suggestion will be much appreciated.

  • NOOB to Flash SIte Design

    Hi all
I am new to Flash site design and would like to see what
other people/developers are creating or find any tutorials or
    discussions on this subject!
My first flash website is titled Diatonic Scales and was
developed entirely in Flash. The theme of the site is a DAW(Digital
audio workstation)/Virtual Keyboard that illustrates how to use
diatonic scales and a similar scale set. It is housed @
    DIATONIC
    SCALES.

    HI
thanks for the links, I have learned heaps from
watching Craig Campbell @ learnflash.com, I will look forward to
checking out those sites when I have some spare time, working on 7
projects presently in college, lynda.com is great also, I am worn
out from reading at the end of the day, video tutoring is such a
release from staring at language specifications or books!

  • Flash site design tips

I'm looking to build a flash portfolio site. Basically the
picture I have in my mind of this site is that its going to be
very......elegant. I don't know how to put it in words. Its going
to be called Sophistication, and will be a black website with very
very mild transtitions. It will have aptly have a calming Mozart
    song as the background.
What I want to know is, at the Loading screen I would like to
design it such a way that when the site is loaded, the "L" "A" "D"
"I" "N" and "G" disappear, but the "O" stays and it sort of goes up
and gently comes down like a comet and explodes to reveal a
blinding light and the main site content appears.
Can someone give me a few tips or pointers on how to do this?
I have a very clear idea in mind of what to do , just that I don't
know how to do this in flash.

This is quite easy and can be done using simple tweening and
frame-by-frame animation on the timeline. You could also achieve
much of this type of animation using ActionScript but you may find
this more challenging although it is arguably the preferred method.
Googling for text tweening in Flash should throw up some
tutorials. There are also many Flash sites where you can simply
purchase prebuilt text effects, which you can manipulate and
deconstruct to see how the effect is created. If you do buy a
prebuilt effect make sure that you are given the source fla file
and some commenting in the code.
If you get really stuck you can buy some great Flash books
that will show you these basic techniques or if you prefer video
    you can try sites like
    http://www.lynda.com or total
training for free content snippets and full dvd videos. Try and use
AS3 or CS3 Flash techniques or, if you can't find much CS3 info
online, look for Flash 8 or AS2. Older tutorials abound and more
modern techniques are better in the long run so choose your
    technique carefully.

  • Ad serving networks for Flash sites

We are looking for suggestions regarding ad networks who can
serve ads to sites that are built completely in Flash. We are
starting to see limitations, any suggestions on company's that can
    serve us ads?

    OK I've figured everything out.
The sites do need to store data, this is why they won't finish loading.
The reason they can't on the Leopard machine (Flash 10.1) is because it is intentionally configured to block Flash cookies. The reason they can't on the Snow Leopard machine (Flash 11.x) is because the new OSX Flash control panel is set to block all sites from storing anything on the computer.
(Incidentally Lion does have the traditional "Macromedia" folder -- it just hadn't been created yet with a new Lion OS install when I looked.)
This situation points out a MAJOR flaw in Flash development best practices today -- not error testing for your storage failing! Especially now that no-storage is an official, user-friendly option set with the Flash control panel. Flash should have some built-in error check method for this, but if not run a loop on reading something back from the disk and give up trying to load after 15 seconds.

  • Looking for Flash/Adobe Air Developer for Startup who has some free time

We are looking for a Flash and Air developer who will be creating a Website Music Player for a new music startup Stereo9 (www.stereo9.com).   We are also looking for the developer to be able to create a desktop application in Air, which will be used if someone chooses to download a song from the website...and the desktop application will be responsible for managing the download and downloading the music to the user's computer.  The functionality between the player and the download tool is pretty simple, and we need to just get it up to a "1.0 launch phase".  The rest of the application is rather robust, so for a small investment you can become involved in this venture that has a lot of potential where we are in touch with venture capitalists including the founder of Last.fm.
The rest of the application is developed (completed over the last 2 years) and the engineer that we had for this area of the platform is no longer available to complete that side, you will receive a percentage of the stock options of the startup and we only need the application to be at a simple 1.0 level to get things started.   Please send an email with your interest and your confidence level that you'll be able to complete all aspects of this project.

I am a mid-level Flex/AIR developer who offers Flex/AIR consulting. Your project sounds similar to others I have worked on. Email me at [email protected] and we can look at your requirements.

  • Looking for Flash 8 Book

    Hi
I work for a video production company and we've recently
purchased Studio 8. I'm looking for a good tutorial book/s that
will walk me through Flash 8 and Dreamweaver 8. Can anyone suggest
a good book for each program?
    Thanks for the help.
    Peter

    I am
only slightly exposed to design patterns, so I would
like a book that covers the "introductions" and such
to basic design patterns, as well as more advanced
design patterns as the book progresses. Most
importantly, I don't want a book that assumes
you have already read some other book!I find Holub on Patterns very good,

The above is to a complementary site about the Game of Life, one of two examples used in the book.

  • Reloading swf for flash site

    Hello,
I am using an old version of flash (Flash 5 because im too
poor to buy the new one)
I have created a flash based web-site that uses load-movie
    for each page.
My problem occures with updated material. After I update a
page (the swf file) and upload it, and then try to view it, the new
information is not displayed. (the old page is still shown)
Are the SWF files stuck in the cache or something like that?
Is there a solution to this problem?
    Please help!!
    Thank you.

    I use FireFox.
I have done some looking around and have found that this is a
common problem with flash sites. There seem to be many ways to
prevent the browser from saving the swf in its cache.
A few such ways are listed here

    Cache for SWF Files
