Chimes of death when trying to switch on macbookpro
hi i took apart my macington last night to get a dvd out of the drive that had decided to make it its permenant home. after successfully getting it out and reassembling my mac as it was before i switched it on and a dull beep now sounds every 5 seconds with a blank black screen?? any idea what is likely to not be connected?? thanks allot lolly
as sig said i had not put it back together properly but after a few times repeating this process i took it to a mac specialist who did it for me (for £60:S)...basic...

"Order Pending" When Trying to Switch Phones
I just upgraded my phone and have tried to switch my old device to my new one. I've backed up my contacts, uploaded them to the new device, and synced. I've gone online on the new phone to activate it. I went to MyVerizon to switch devices. Now neither phone can make or receive calls (though my old device was still receiving emails!) and when I check the "switch or activate" screen in MyVerizon it says my order is pending. My order has now been shown as "pending" for four hours (3 p.m. to 7 p.m. CST).
Shouldn't switching devices be almost immediate? Was I supposed to do things in a particular order that I was unaware of? Why can't I use my new phone (or my old one)? And why can't I ever get through to the Chat to speak with someone (since I can't call--I have no land line)?Greyeggdoc, thanks for posting. Are you still having this issue? Does the order still say "pending"? Have you tried to dial *611 from the device that you want active? You can activate the device over the phone too!

X server crashes when trying to switch from compiz to metacity
Hi,
i updated mesa to 7.4-1, xf86-video-ati to 6.12.2-1, xorg-server to 1.6.1-1 and now i see that when i try to switch from compiz to metacity, my xserver crashes and login window shows up. i tried that many times, but everytime my xserver crashed.which accelerate method do you use in xorg.conf? And what's your card?
In my intel X4500MHD case, with UXA AccelMethod, it's fine when doing window manager switch. -
HELP! Itunes 11.1.4 crashes immediately when trying to switch stores
I have 2 stores accounts. I just upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.1 which came with iTunes 11.1.4.
When I sign out from one account to switch to the other, iTunes freezes during the logout process, and while reloading the iTunes Store, the immediately crashes and quits. This is driving me nuts! I have 70 apps to update!

In Flash Builder: "No Disk" Error when trying to switch to Design View
Just had Flash Builder Beta 1 uninstalled and Beta 2 installed instead.
When I try to switch to Design View or open a link from Start Page in Flash Builder Beta 2, the application freezes and "No Disk" error message pops up.You have some other problem with your boot drive that has corrupted data backed up to the TimeMacine drive.
My advice is to boot into each operating system and manually backup just your Users files each to separate regular external drives (no Timemachine or backup software) and disconnect.
Make a note of any serial numbers, emails, address book contacts, export bookmarks etc. that isn't typically in your users folders data.
You might be able to Winclone 3 the Windows as a whole thing as it's appearing not to have issues but it's your MacintoshHD partition that is so that will have to be rebuilt from scratch.
Most commonly used backup methods
If your OS X parititon doesn't boot, you can use this to recover files.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Without any further detail about your machine I can't advise specifically what to do, but it involves using Disk Utility to Zero Erase (move slider one spot to the right or in 10.6 using Security Option) the ENTIRE boot drive and reformatting, then installing OSX fresh and then setting up BootCamp again.
If you wish to switch your boot drive for something better, this is a good time to do this.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If your machine is capable of Internet Recovery, then use that, then upgrade.
If your machine came with 10.6 or earlier, then use the 10.6 install disks and work up from there.
Erase, formatting, OS X installs on Mac's -
I moved Thunderbird to a new PC about 1 year ago. Everything was working OK for me until now. I wanted to switch from POP3 to IMAP and really messed things up.
I kept the old POP3 accounts configured and added them as IMAP. I was thinking that I could just copy from the POP account to the IMAP account once they both showed up there. That did not work. Either something unexpected happened, or I messed things up. Now all my email is gone.
I have since removed all of the accounts and wanted to get back to where I was before, but am not able to figure it out.
When I initially moved the email over about 1 year ago, I moved the profiles from the C: drive to the F: drive to save space on my new SSD C: drive. I think in the process of all of this, I've lost which of the many profiles I've found on the various drives is the original one I've used. Is there a good way to sort all of this out and get my email back in Thunderbird?
I do know that the email is still there, because when I search my PC, the email is still found using Windows Explorer, but I don't see how to get it to show up in Thunderbird again.
I'd really like to switch to IMAP from POP3, but if it's not possible, I can live with that.
I haven't messed with my wife's email (we have 2 users on the PC) - her email is still OK.
Any suggestions how to get the email back into Thunderbird?Good plan.
I'd also advise against changing the location of the individual message store locations, as, as you have found, it makes keeping on top of it all somewhat more complicated. The best reason I can think of for altering the "Local Directory" setting(s) in Account Settings is in a dual-boot system where you want the message stores (but not the entire profile) to be visible to two or more separate operating systems. -
Ipod is dead when plugged into usb port or when using on/off switch
absolutely no displayPress and hold the power on button and the circle button on the front for about 10-15 seconds - If nothing try to plug in to the usb at the rear of the PC for more power and then try again.

IPod denies access to front camera when trying to switch
So I wanted to take a picture of myself to send to a friend. I go to the camera app and switch to the front camera. The screen flips around, but the screen doesn't show my face. I wait, and wait, but I can't do anything. It's like the camera app froze...
Am I the first to experience this with iOS 7? What's causing my iPod to not let me use the front camera anymore?

Thank you for providing the details of the Home Sharing issue you are experiencing. The Home Sharing icon is not always visible. If you would like it to show so that you can verify you are signed in with the correct account, you can follow these steps:
Go to File > Home Sharing and choose Turn Off Home Sharing.
Choose File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing.
When prompted, enter the Apple ID you'd like to use.
Click Turn On Home Sharing, then Done.
After you press done, it is normal for the Home Sharing icon to disappear. I found these steps in the article listed below. I recommend reviewing the full article to troubleshoot issues with Home Sharing:

"Blue Screen of Death" when trying to capture video!
Whenever I go to capture video, it immediately gives me a blue screen and the computer restarts. I thought that installing Premiere (CS 4 trial) would allow me to use Premiere's capture capabilities, but I still got the same blue screen problem. So, what could be the problem? I have captured video on this same computer before, using the same camera (Panasonic MiniDV cam....can't remember the model #) with no problem. Not sure why it's giving me trouble now. Do drivers need updated? I am operating on a PC....Windows Vista, and I have plenty of drive space. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1.If internet is fine then this might be becase of Creative cloud files, please try the steps metioned in http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/unknown-server-error-launchin g-cc.html and see if it works.
2.Please navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db and trash it. Try to launch CC desktop and sign in with your Adobe Id (http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-f iles.html) .
{Note for step 2: The file is in the user Library, not the Applications folder. To see the hidden user Library (not the system Library) in the Finder click on the Go menu item and then hold down the Alt / Option key. You will see Library appear between Home and Computer. Spinning beach ball of death when trying to save lecture notes! :(
the title says most of it...
I have 3 pages of lecture notes now that have been stuck with the save dialogue box open for over a half hour.
any ideas on how to retrieve the notes or force it out of the beach ball?Again no if the application has hung.
If this happened during a save there sounds like it may have hit a snag with your drive, server or external device. If you can change something to do with these outside Pages you may get out of the hang which may be just Pages waiting on something.
To see if there is something identifiable going on, open *Activity Monitor* in your Utilities folder.
Hung activities will be shown in red, see if there is something besides Pages affected.
Click through the buttons at bottom from CPU to Network and also the processes pull down menu at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
In my experience most hangs are due to inadequate virtual memory which is in turn due to less than 10-15% of your Hard Drive being free, or sometimes due to inadequate real memory available.

btw These **** huge OSX sheets are a PITA, whoever thought covering up your work with save or open dialogs was a good idea ought to be sent back to GUI training camp. -
iMac that won't boot up! When power is switched on it chimes, Apple logo appears, then loading bar, then spinning wheel. Bar seems to load up and gets to around 25%, then reverts to the start again, gets to about 20% on the bar and then switches itself off leaving a black screen. Tried all the remedies on internet with no avail so would welcome some advice other than binning what is a relatively new computer. Earliest appointment Apple could offer was Thursday 17th, really useful for a business user _ not impressed,
You've probably tried this, but will it Safe Boot? Restart holding down the Shift key until you see the grey progress bar. You'll need to input your admin password during bootup. If it will boot you can then try to eject the disk using the various suggestions here that you haven't tried already:

When trying to update or purchase Apps I am being advised my account is not valid for the UK Store and I must switch to the IReland store. How do I do this?

When trying to update apps, I get the message: "Account not in this store,...switch to the Canadian store before purchasing" How to I switch, and how did it even get changed to US store? I don't remember changing anything, and I used to be able to update, no problem.. I have synced with my computer for music - could it have happened then? I changed on the computer to Cdn site, but will it not go to the iPhone automatically?
On you iPhone go to settings-iTunes & AppStore.
Tap user name, sign out.
Log back in with your apple ID and password.
That should fix the problem
