Chinese characters on tabs

Please advise if Mozilla are working on fixing the bug where Chinese characters appear over the tabs. This has only happened since the new version install. I am aware of the official response that it's a conflict with McAfee Site Advisor, but I am not switching this off, and compromising security due to a Firefox bug. Please advise if there will be a fix, or where I can re-install the previous version of Firefox.

That is not something that Firefox needs to fix, but this has to be fixed by McAfee.
New Firefox versions are available quite some time in advance (Firefox 37 is already under development), so developers of extensions for Firefox have plenty time to make sure that their software works with the next release.
Firefox comes with some built-in protection, so you are not completely unprotected.

  • Why are Chinese characters appearring on tabs?

    Hello,
    I seem to be having a problem. From time to time, what appears to be Chinese characters/radicals appear on my tabs - as shown in the image. I have 'refreshed' firefox a couple of times but I can't seem to narrow down where this is coming from or why it is happening.
    I'm not sure if my system or version of Firefox has been hijacked, or if it's an add-on that is allowing an intrusion. Well - really - I'm not sure what's happening.
    Any ideas?

    I see that it's the McAfee SiteAdvisor program that's creating the problem.
    I will contact McAfee about this, and disable or uninstall SiteAdvisor.

  • Everytime I open a new window, the old window gets Chinese characters in the tab bar.

    Every time I open a new window, the old windows gets Chinese characters on the tabs. They won't go away until I restart the whole browser.

    hello, this is a displaying flaw caused the mcafee site advisor extension - please try to disable or remove that in case you have it present until there is an update by mcafee that can fix the problem.

  • Firefox has a hidden tab with Chinese characters.

    The Firefox block on the taskbar line had Chinese characters displaying the current location. I closed all of my tabs and then clicked to quit Firefox. I then got a dialog box stating that I had multiple tabs open with Save, Quite, Cancel as options. The Chinese site was some how operating on a hidden tab. I had visited only sites such as BBC, Google Search, some trusted weather sites and downloaded some PDF from sites the McAfee had flagged as Safe. Any ideas?

    If you see CJK (Chinese/Japanese) characters on the Firefox title bar or the Windows Taskbar then that can happen if Firefox switches to UTF-16 encoding for some reason.
    The "RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin" extension (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) has been reported to cause that issue.
    Be sure not to get confused with the RealPlayer plugin (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) that plays media files.
    The extension adds some extra features like saving media files.
    You can disable/remove the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension in the RealPlayer Preferences (RealPlayer: Tools > Preferences > Download & Recording)

  • Active Tab has floating chinese characters as well as the tab name how do I get rid of this?

    Previously this seemed to driven by an addin which I removed. Now each time Firefox updates itself every 1-2 days this problem reappears without the original addin. Because the chinese characters float over the top of the tab name it makes it difficult to read the tab name is is plain irritating.

  • Chinese characters scrambled when loading from DS to BW

    Hi, I've been pulling my hair out with this issue.
    I have a flat file containing Chinese text. When I load this in BW using 'FLATFILE' as a source system, it works fine. BW shows the correct Chinese characters.
    When I do the same load using BODI, I get funny characters.
    When I use BODI to load from one flat file into another flat file, the Chinese characters remain correct.
    What do I need to do to make sure I get the right Chinese characters in BW when loading from BODI?
    BODI is installed on Unix on Oracle 10.
    I run the jobs as batch processes.
    The dsconfig.txt has got:
    AL_Engine=<default>_<default>.<default>
    There are no locale settings in al_env.sh
    BW target is UTF-8 codepage.
    File codepage is BIG5-HKSCS
    BODI is set up as a Unicode system in SAP BW.
    When loading flat file to flat file, I get a message:
    DATAFLOW: The specified locale <eng_gb.iso-8859-1> has been coerced to <Unicode (UTF-16)
    because the datastore <TWIN_FF_CUSTOMER_LOCAL> obtains data in <BIG5-HKSCS> codepage.
    JOB: Initializing transcoder for datastore <TWIN_FF_CUSTOMER_LOCAL> to transcode between
    engine codepage<Unicode (UTF-16)>  and datastore codepage <BIG5-HKSCS>
    When loading to BW the messages are almost the same, but now the last step in UTF-16 to UTF-8.
    I read the wiki post which definitely helped me to understand the rationale behind code page, but now I ran out of ideas what else to check ( http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/Multiple+Codepages )
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Diagnosis
    Data packages or InfoPackages are missing in BI but there were no apparent processing errors in the source system. It is therefore probable that there was an error in the data transfer.
    The analysis tried to read the ALE outbox of the source system. This lead to error .
    It is possible that there is no connection to the source system.
    Procedure
    Check the TRFC overview in the source system.
    Check the connection to the source system for errors and check the authorizations and profiles of the remote user in both the BI and source systems.
    Check th ALE outbox of the source system for IDocs that have not been updated.

  • Chinese Characters in User Variables

    I'm using FrameMaker 7.2.
    On an XP machine localized for CH, I'm trying to convert
    and translate a manual into Simplified Chinese. I'm doing
    fine with entering or pasting characters directly into the
    document, but am having no success with variables.
    In the edit variable window I can get a character in and
    displaying correctly, but as soon as I space over to do the
    next character, the previous one changes to a question mark.
    I hope there is just a simple setting or step I'm missing.

    hex--it always broke it into separate bytes.
    In the meantime, I got a working answer from the Framers mailing list. Here

    Woo hoo! This worked. I do use FM 7.2. This particular machine's
    Regional and Language Options did not have the third Advanced tab,
    so in the Regional Options tab, I just changed the first box to
    Chinese (PRC) and rebooted.
    I noticed that in my Variable edit space, the Chinese characters
    do not display properly, but in the document you need to ensure
    that the variable is in the correct font (in my case, SimSun),
    and it will then work.

  • Export to flat file with unicode (chinese) characters??

    I have an SSIS (2013) package that needs to send an email notification with query results (via attachment). I have a data flow task with a source sql query that gathers 2 columns - ID and NAME. ID is varchar, NAME is nvarchar (some records have Chinese symbols).
    The destination is a .txt file. When I copy/paste a field w/ Chinese symbols to a .txt file, it shows up fine, so i know Notepad can handle the characters. I also have the .txt file set to Unicode encoding (I also tried ANSI originally). When I run the package,
    it says that it successfully moves 50 fields to the flat file. However, when I open the flat file, I see that it shows 10 records. It stops when it gets to the record with a Chinese symbol in it...but doesn't produce an error. My plan was to then take the
    attachment and use it in a Send Mail task. (i have the smtp/mail notification working fine...just need to figure out how to get the data to all export to the flat file correctly)
    Does anyone know how I can get the ID and NAME fields from a query into an email notification (either as an attachment, or even formatted nicely (with tabs) in an email would work).

    Based on my test, I can reproduce the similar issue in my environment. When we create the Flat File Connection Manager with the default settings, the data in flat file stops when goes to the Chinese characters.
    To fix the issue that makes the Chinese characters to actually get written into the flat file, we should check the Unicode checkbox on the right hand side of Locale property in Flat File Connection Manager. In this way, the flat file can display Chinese
    characters.

  • Can I pass Chinese characters in a queue (Do queues support Unicode)?

    I am aware that there are a number of tools to allow the use of Chinese characters within LabVIEW. I have successfully built an application where I am able to switch between English and Chinese so that all screen text, buttons, multi-column list boxes etc etc are updated correctly.
    However, I do all my event logging using queues. When I dequeue the an item, I want to write it out to a log file (i.e. a ".txt" file) but the resulting file contains rubbish instead of the Chinese characters.
    As an experiment, I created a simple VI that reads an array of Chinese text and writes it to a text file and this works fine. But, as I say, if I try doing this using queues, I just just get rubbish.
    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    I've tried to replicate my situation but now I get a different outcome. It seems that I am now getting Chinese characters in my text file. However, you'll see from my code that I'm trying to Tab seperate each item (Date, Time and Message) but this doesn't seem to be working. Likewise, I want to end each line with a Carriage Return but that doesn't seem to be working either.
    I think I'm going to have to take it on the chin that something I'm doing in my "real" application is preventing me from seeing the Chinese characters in my log file.
    I've attached the sample VI along with a sample logfile from my "real" application so you can see what I'm getting.
    I can't really see what I've done different between my sample VI and my application. The only real difference is to do with the Byte Order Mark. In my application I've tried the following :-
    Inserting this once at the beginning of the entire log file
    Inserting it once at the start of each line of the log file
    Inserting it before each piece of text excluding the date and time
    Inserting it before every message item including the Tabs and Carriage Returns
    None of the above produce anything I can use.

  • Why a " # " is coming while printing chinese characters from SAP script?

    Hi All,
    Facing one issue.
    We have a SAP script for printing delivery note thru T-code VL03N. The script has chinese characters in it.
    When I print this form the chinese characters that are hardcoded in the script can be seen in the print out but the ones which are coming from the table cannot be seen instead they are repalced by " # ".
    Strangely, when a debug the script or see a print preview on the screen they can be seen as it is with no problem.
    Only when I print it, on the paper print they are seen as # but the characters that are hardcoded in the script can be seen clearly on paper.
    Secondly, in Transaction FB03 which is for display of list of documents it too has some chinese characters and when I print this directly from the t-code doing Shift-F1 ( no SAP script or form is involved in this case) then the same case is there the chinese characters get replaced by a " # ".
    Any inputs or views are welcome.
    Please suggest.

    You need to set your activate multibyte functions to support.
    Long on to SAP --->right side right corner (Customized local layout) --> click --->Select options --->select tab (l18N)
    -->Check Activate multibyefunctions to support.
    log off you SAP Gui then re-log in...you can able to view multi language characters.

  • MS Notepad unable to display the Chinese characters I type and display them as squares

    MS Notepad is unable to display the Chinese characters I type and display them as squares. But when I copy those squares on notepad to Wordpad or MS Word, they display the Chinese characters just fine. I've no idea why those Chinese characters I type can't display properly on notepad. I check the font of the notepad and it's the default. I've another Windows Vista desktop computer which has notepad of the similar setting and display Chinese characters just fine. Both are using Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin New Experience Input Style to input those characters. But I don't understand why my Windows 7 is facing this problem.

    Notepad is a very simple text editor BUT it will work if you use the SAME language in Windows. Please try:
    1. go to control panel, click "Clock, Language, and Region"
    2. click "Change location" under the "Region" section
    3. go to the "administrative" tab, then click "change system locale...", then select "Chinese".

  • Chinese characters become garbage characters after reinstall  Essbase

    I reinstalled Essbase but I found the Chinese characters become garbage characters in the EAS. And I set ESSLANG=SimplifiedChinese_China.MS936@Binary, but it still didn't work.
    I ran the command:ESSUTF8 -a. It shows:
    Failed on GCSetLocale(). Please set proper ESSLANG environment.
    Is it related to Oracle characters set? My one is SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.AL32UTF8. I heard the shared service console maybe can solve it, but I didn't find the solution in it.

    NOTE: If any of the following Action Points are already done, I would recommend you to implement again.
    1. On the client machine, add the following Environment Variable under System Variables and User Variables. Add ESSLANG as system variable name and User Variable name and put SimplifiedChinese_China.MS936@binary as variable value.
    2. On client Machine, Verify the Regional and Language Options.
    In the Control Panel, navigate to Regional and Language options. Under Regional Options tab, verify if the option "Select an Item to match its preferences, or click Customize to choose your own formats:" has been set to "English (United States)". If yes, set it to "Chinese (PRC)".
    3. On Client Machine, verify if the Unicode font is installed. The font “Arial Unicode MS Font” supports Unicode characters.
    4. Verify the problem in SpreadSheet Add-in(Essbase Add-in). Navigate to Tools->Add-in in Excel, do you see "Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server DLL (Unicode)”. If No, uncheck the option then close Excel. Open Excel again and then navigate to Tools->Add-ins and browse to Hyperion/Analytics/Bin and select the .xll file

    I've read several oracle globalization documents and I'm very confused now. Here's my setup:.. everything is on 1 machine
    I'm runnig oracle 9.2.0.4 database on windowsXP.
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\NLS_LANG registry key value = NA
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0 registry key value = AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
    select * from nls_database_parameters
    returns:
    NLS_CHARACTERSET = WE8MSWIN1252
    NLS_LANGUAGE =     AMERICAN
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET = AL16UTF16
    windows xp settings for regional & language options, advanced tab under language for non-unicode programs is set to Chinese(Taiwan).
    Using the strgen tool available for free from MS here (http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/strgen.mspx). I generate hundreds of CHT(Chinese Taiwan) characters and then insert them via sqlplus into a varchar2(100), then query the results getting what looks like the exact characters I put in.
    If I run:
    select dump(column_name), column_name from table_name;
    on a row containing 4 chinese characters the results are:
    Typ=1 Len=8: 165,250,184,234,187,219,179,225 [4 chinese characters go here - sorry they aren't pasting properly]
    Looks like multibyte to me, but I must be missing something??
    My main question is why DON'T I get question marks??? I.e. Since I'm using an single byte characterset shouldn't it be junk that is return instead of exactly, or at least what looks like exactly, the same characters be returned. I'm missing something -- please, someone clear things up for me. I will provide whatever info that is necessary.
    This is very critical to us in that we've been using a front-end application for some time with this configuration and have only recently tried globalizing/localizing our web based products. It seems that in order for apache to send the proper encoding to the web based client, that the nls_lang registry entry should be set to ZHT16BIG5, which will make the browser work, but this then breaks our front-end app.

    This is typical pass-through scenario (known as "garbage-in garbage-out").
    You have defined NLS_LANG to be the same as the database character set.
    Therefore, the database does no character set conversion as it thinks
    no conversion is needed. You see Chinese characters because the SQL*Plus
    font is set to the system default for Chinese locale. The operating system
    displays received codes as Chinese and not as Western European.
    For the data that you DUMPed, call LENGTH(). In a correct configuration,
    with the ZHT16MSWIN950 character set, the function would return 4.
    But it will return 8, because Oracle thinks the input is a string of WE8MSWIN1252
    single-bytes codes. Also, try Java to show the characters. You will
    not succeed, because Java converts to Unicode and this conversion from
    WE8MSWIN1252 will produce mess from the Chinese codes.
    In a proper configuration, you need NLS_LANG=.ZHT16MSWIN950 and
    the database character set (NLS_CHARACTERSET) either ZHT16MSWIN950,
    or AL32UTF8, if the database is to be really multilingual.

    I have a SAPScript Layout with Chinese characters to be displayed.But in the hard-copy printout I do not get the chinese characters printed, instaed it prints some funny characters like '####'.
    How can i get the chinese characters printed ?

    The logic to build SAP Script and Smart form of all languages will be same. But while working on Asian language please take care of the following points.
    1 Make sure you logon to SAP in Chiness language only.
    2 At the Operating system level install the Chinees language.[Control panel - >Regional and language Option - >language Tab - > Click on Install Files for East Asian languages] If these language already installed then click on Detail and add the Chinese languages[Chinese (PRS) and Chinese(Taiwan).
    3 At SAP level click on Customizing of Local layout[Alt+F12] and click on options.Go to tab I18N and click on Activate the multi-byte functionalities to support check box.
    4.Take care of the Font while assigning to Character formar or paragraph format. Dont use normal font name. Example of chinese phone "CNSONG

  • How to configure my Firefox thus allowing me to input Chinese characters into the search box by using PenPower writing pad while this problem doesn't exist when I am using Internet Explorer?

    I am using the electronic writing pad made by PENPOWER Inc. to input Chinese characters onto my PC programs (e.g. Winword, Internet Explorer, Excel, etc.) But I can not make it happened on Firefox, please advice what I have to do with the configuration of the Firefox or using any other method to make it work. Thanking you guys in advance for helping me to solve this problem.
