  • Chinese font displayed incorrectly in Windows XP

We are creating pdf documents in our business system containing chinese text and therefore using Windows SimSun font as default. Pdf files shows up correctly in Windows Vista, 7 and 8 but in Windows XP it displayes incorrect characters.
If I copy and paste the text from pdf to Notepad in Windows XP and select the SimSun font it diplayes correct characters. Problem is in Adobe Reader, we have tested from ver 9 and up to the latest but still showing incorrect characters.
Any ideas on why this is happening on Windows XP ?

Do you have the appropriate Chinese font pack installed on any of these computers?

  • Rotated ASCII characters overlap in Text Layout Framework with specific Japanese/Chinese fonts

I am trying to layout rotated text with Text Layout Framework. Mostly okay, but when it comes to specific Japanese/Chinese fonts, problem happens - "hankaku" alphanumeric characters(in other words, ASCII characters) overlap in those fonts. (Full-width "zenkaku" characters have no problem, though)
When "HG丸ゴシックM-PRO" or "HG正楷書体-PRO" are specified as fontFamily(both come with Office - common fonts in Japanese Windows environment), characters are wholly overlapped.
When "SimSun", "NSimSun" or "SimHei" are specified as fontFamily(Chinese fonts, all come with Japanese Windows XP), characters are slightly overlapped.
If anyone knows a solution or a workaround to this, please let me know.
    Sample code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" creationComplete="initapp();">

Not that I know of. Your problem is that you're loading the
    content
dynamically, so you have no idea what it will contain.
    There's normally
no need to embed Japanese fonts for a Japanese audience,
    because they
already have the main fonts, such as Mincho, Gothic, or Osaka
    on their
machine. Perhaps you'll just have to give up the idea of
    rotation.

  • Chinese font issue on SAPGUI 6.40

    Hi All,
We have a problem here with SapGUI 6.40 runing on a Citrix Presentation Server on Windows Server 2003.
Chinese language pack is installed for the Operation System.
For some users, after opening more than 3 SAPGUI Windows, the chinese fonts become too small.
    Has anyone saw that ?
I am a Microsoft/Citrix person, not a SAP specialist. Need to know how SAPGUI handle the fonts. Does it use tha Operation System fonts , has it's own fonts for non ocidental languages ???
Any information about this will be fine !
    Thanks !!!
    Fernando

I've done some research, and maybe it's an operation system issue.
I don't know the patch level, or if the problem happens with 6.20, but in other servers (SAP DEV Servers), in the same condition, the problem does not happen.
Anyway, any help is welcome !
    Thanks !

  • ClearType makes fonts in Dreamweaver code view hard to read

I'm using Dreamweaver 8.0.2 with Windows Vista Business. As
you know, Vista has a feature called "ClearType," which is supposed
to help smooth out the on-screen fonts. It normally does do this,
but for some reason, in Dreamweaver code view, some of the edges of
fonts are cut off, making it very difficult to read at times. See
    pic here:
    http://www.klife.com/fontscutoff.jpg
I've tried changing the display fonts within Dreamweaver
(from Courier New to Arial, etc.), but it doesn't help. Actually,
Arial is worse. But here's what fixes it: turning off ClearType. I
haven't noticed ClearType messing any fonts up in programs except
for Dreamweaver. Why is DW doing this and is there anything I can
do to get ClearType to work with it?

You might want to try Clear Type Tuner. It is a Microsoft
    tool to let you
adjust your clear type settings to your liking. It was
    written for XP. I'm
not sure if they have a Vista version out yet, but the XP
    version might
    work.

Here is an online version, which I have not tried.

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.1.0, Chinese Fonts & OCR

You can see the version of Adobe Acrobat I am using.  When I scan a document with Chinese fonts they appear just fine on screen.  That means I've got "pictures" of the characters.  However, I want to use my OCR function so that I actually have the individual Chinese characters and individually manipulate them (bring them into a word processor).  I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is can anyone tell me how to do it?
    Thanks

"7.1.4" was the last update for Acrobat 7.
There are no updates after this as the Acrobat 7.x product family went into product End of Support.
This URL is to the Acrobat product update page.
Scroll down to view the 7.x updates. You can manually download and install each in turn.

  • Why do my CSS files open in Chinese font?

My .css files have started opening in a Chinese font, in red.
If I open the files in BBEdit, they're fine. But opening them in
Dreamweaver always gets Chinese. I've tried making a new .css file
in BBEdit and then opening it in Dreamweaver, and it still opens in
Chinese. I've checked the font listing in Preferences and all seems
well. What is happening and how can I fix it?

Problem solved. Not knowing Chinese, I had to go back and
open the file in BBEdit, then change the charset back to utf8 (it
    had somehow reset to utf-16).

  • Corrupted Japanese/Chinese fonts

    Hi,
I'm using Windows 8 Professional RTM (dreamspark) right now and I'm having trouble viewing japanese/chinese fonts.
    Fonts are showing like squares.
I've just noticed that when I copy/paste the folder name, it shows perfectly!
When I was having the same problem on Windows 7, I've deleted the file FNTCACHE.DAT because it was corrupted. After a restart, everything was ok again.
Not working on Windows 8, I have to login, logoff and login again. After that it shows correctly.
    Thank you.

Windows 8 updated to the last version.
    Drivers and bios updated too.
I ran Windows update again, couldn't find any updates.
I'm having the same issue as the person on this forum
    http://gdgt.com/question/fix-japanese-text-in-windows-8-displaying-squares-icj/
And I have to listen to some stranger on the internet with a solution to this problem, not MS support:
"This is a known issue that Microsoft is trying to fix at the moment. Best thing I can advise you to
do is that when this happens (I advise keeping a Japanese filename folder on the desktop so you can easily tell if it has) to log out of your account and log back in."

  • Simplified Chinese font missing ...

I recently bought a 17" MacBook Pro--bought in China--and have discovered that one of the most important Simplified Chinese fonts, Song.dfont, is missing. The machine came with OS-X 10.4.7 which I have upgraded to 10.4.8, fully updated. To try to find it, I did an "archive and install" on my bootable back-up disk, but Song.dfont is missing from that new 10.4.7 installation. The Hei.dfont and Kai.dfont are there on both versions of the system.
I tried copying the font from my old Rev 1 TiBook, which has it, though it is now running 10.4.8 but when I tried to install it on the MacBook Pro, I got an alert that it was corrupt ... something to do with a conflict with the original SIL Doulos IPA font, I believe.
Can anyone suggest how I can get it. Song is essential, as I exchange files with Chinese Windows users on a regular basis, and they are in Song. The system installs STSong, but that doesn't help, because I also need to produce PDFs and STSong is not licensed for embedding in a PDF.
So please, can anyone help me to find a source for installing this font on my MacBook Pro?
    Mark Hilton

Look through the files on the Main re-install disk that came with your MBP. In the "System" folder you will find "packages". Inside are the various installers. One of those may well have the install package for your Chinese fonts. Maybe this works.
Another way might be to get Pacifist, and if you can find the right package, drag it on to Pacifist's window. This would be another way to install the font.
Note: I am not exactly which package would do the job. Pacifist is very helpful at searching this out for you. Find Pacifist from versiontracker.com.
    Note 2: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25710
This indicates that it is in a package called "Additional Asian Fonts". This wil make it easier for you.

  • Are there any chinese fonts with iWork?

A friend in Beijing is keen to convert to Mac, but wants to know if there any Chinese fonts available with iWork?  If anyone knows, I'd be grateful for some feedback.
She's not keen on buying Microsoft Office for Mac.
    Linden

Unlike on Windows the language support is not at the application level, but the system level.
Get your friend to try out a Mac in an AppleStore because the real concern will be whether OSX meets her needs for efficient input methods. The various methods Apple employs are relatively simple but not as efficent or helpful as you will find on Windows.
Don't expect the same of language support in the Mac version of Word as you do in the Windows version.
Have a look at free applications like Text Express and its related word processors which are well designed for the Japanese market but will do equally as well for Chinese. In particular these are easier for changing the direction of the text. Pages has no provision for vertical text.
One thing your friend will find fascinating is the OSX Service that lets you switch text between Traditional and Simplified text, at one click.

  • Mac OS 10.5.2 English Version can't identify Chinese font when I access OWA

I have a question that is Mac OS 10.5.2 English Version can't identify Chinese font when I access Microsoft OWA. (OWA version is 2003)
When I access Microsoft OWA, I can see English fonts very well.
But I will see Chinese fonts as ??? and I can not see them at all.
    I have tried solutions below:
    (1) Install Firefox 2.0.X and Internet Explorer 5.2.2 but still can not see
    Chinese fonts at all.
    (2) I change the text encoding to BIG-5 code or UTF-8 but still invalid.
Is there anything I can do??

Is there anything I can do??
What is the result with Safari?
    Try FireFox 3 beta:
    http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/all-beta.html
    Try Opera:
    http://www.opera.com/
With all browsers make sure you try all Chinese encodings (Traditional Big 5, Traditional Windows, Simplified GB 2312, Simplified GB 18030) plus UTF-8 and (if available) UTF-16.
Also you might ask on the Chinese Mac mailing list:

Is there a MS forum on Outlook Web Access where you can ask?

  • Having problems with Telugu and Chinese fonts

I am in the processes of finishing a DVD that is translated into several languages, including Telugu and Chinese. For both of these languages, I'm having problems getting some characters to render correctly. In Telugu, for example, I have instances of a single character that is rendering as two characters, though other characters are fine.
The font I'm using is the Gautami font that comes with Windows 7. It is reported by Windows as having an OpenType layout with TrueType outlines. Has anyone seen this sort of problem and solved it?

Thanks, though I don't want to have to pop for a font that may or may not work. It would be nice if Adobe could just fix the problem, since it stretches across almost all their apps. However, I discovered that Flex does render Telutu text correctly, however. It can be done, Adobe, because you've done it. So I wrote a little Flex app to read my subtitle file, walk through all of the subs and save them as png images along with a FAB image script. So now I can import that into Encore to get the subtitles to display correctly (my Telugu translator verified that they are all correct now) but I still have the problem with Telugu text in the menus.
I hope someone from Adobe is reading this and will feel properly embarrased by the following rant:
I'm about to use paint.net to render the Telugu text for my menus because Photoshop can't do it correctly, either! @_@
I also wrote a Flex app for editing and translating subtitles and converting from srt to the Encore format because Adobe can't be bothered with a some simple importing of industry standard subtitle formats! @__@
And while I'm on the subject, is there any possibility that Adobe might actually treat the process of creating DVDs as something other than a bone with little-to-no meat on it that it throws to its users?
I admit that I couldn't do my work without Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects, but sheesh! I don't really have the time to be writing software to make up for features that Adobe couldn't be bothered to include and struggle with Encore not rendering fonts correctly on top of it. I need to sleep at some point.
    End of rant.
