  • Displaying Chinese on JSP. Very strange

    My environment is English OS win2k and IE5.5. This is my source code
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="zh-cn">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=big5">
    </head>
    <body>
    JO
    </body>
    </html>
    If I saved it as a JSP file, and then I run my Tomcat 4.1. When I open this file, I will not be able to see the chinese characters. I have to manually right-click and select "Big5" from the pop-menu.
    However, if I saved it as a HTML, then I will see the chinese characters straight away without any setting.
    How to make it when I save it as Jsp file, I can see the Chinese characters without user to select the encoding type?
    Please help me.
    Thank you

    I do not know if this will help, but try adding
    <%@ page contentType=text/html pageEncoding=big5 %>
    at the top of your JSP file.

  • Display Chinese Character jsp page  by using UTF-8

    hi all,
    I have one jsp page have Chinese character, need to allow user input Chinese character into db, right now my situation is if I set <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> , the Chinese character in my jsp page I can't display correcly, but the inser is okI have to set encoding to big5, then I can't insert chinese character into my db correctly.
    can I use UTF-8 to display my jsp page, which have Chinese Character in there?Thank you!

    Hi Niklas
    thank you for the suggestion. somebody told me UTF-8 suppose work, only if you typing your Chiness character in UTF-8 formate, i don't know that is true or not, but that realy a challenge for me, I using jdbc , some time ago, and then stop, and on that period,if I got free time, I did try to learn some tutorials on struct, hibernate, like http://javaboutique.internet.com/tutorials/Struts/; http://courses.coreservlets.com/Course-Materials/struts.html
    recently I need to deal with some online form , first I want to use struct, but I keep got forwad problem, I forget the detail error message, and found not place to ask questions, so , I pick jdbc again, so ,if you have some useful link in struct or a nice community for people to learn struct, I am look forward to
    know that,
    by the way I set *<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=big5" /> in my jsp*
    String dbURL="jdbc:mysql://localhost/survey?useBig5=true&characterEncoding=Big5"; in jdbc
    keep UTF-8 setting in mysql, it looks solute the problem that I had, hope that can enhabce our knowledge in that
    thank you for the help and wish good luck for future.

  • JSP to display Chinese From Oracle Unicode?

    My Oracle 9iR2 Database use Unicode as default character set.
    However, I can not see Chinese from JSP and use <%@ page contentType = "text/html;charset=UTF-8" %>.
    What is the solution to i18n?

    Hi,
    Why can't you use a Java Bean which takes the data from the database. Then call this bean from the JSP page using <jsp:useBean> tag.
    Ok,if you dont want a Java Bean and if you want to use an applet in a JSP file, you will have to use <jsp:plugin>tag. Here is an example
    <html><head><title> Demo Applet</title></head>
    <body bgcolor="rd">
    <% if (request.getParameter("SUBMIT") != null) {%>
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="DemoApplet.java" codebase="." name="Demo" height="400 with="300>
    <jsp:fallback> Plug in not supported by your browser</jsp:fallback>
    </jsp:plugin>
    </body></html>
    Hope this will help you.

  • How to make my java bean internationalization?

    hi,
    I have a project on tomcat. I have rewrite my jsp to multi-language according to user's browse language setting. User's language is English, the jsp shows them English. User's language is Chinese, the jsp shows them Chinese, and so on. But in my java bean code, some exception are thrown out with some message or alert. Can anybody tell me how to make these java beans show the language string acording to user's browse language setting?
    thx
    Pierre

    Dear one_dane,
    Thank you. That is a great document to me. The fact is that my owner code throws exception with a string. The code is:
    if(amount<0) throw new Exception("Please input correct amount.");
    If the code is in jsp, I can convert it to a internationalized String using struts tag <bean:message...>. But it is in a deep function of java class. So must I add a Locale object parameter to the function and all calling functions?
    thx
    yours,
    Pierre

  • Can Not Display Normal Chinese Chars in JSP

    Hi,

    funny things. If I get the data from the oracle and the information is chinese,
    then it display correctly. And I try another thing that I save the noraml JSP
    (without any java code) to a html and it is working fine. Same content, if saved
    as HTML, then ok. If saved as JSP, then got problem. I am using weblogic 6.1.
    There are somewhere need to be configure or... Any idea for this? Thank you

    Hi Howard,
    if i use Font.createFont() to general font object that
    can solve chinese display problem in RH 7.3. but i
    thought, it's no reasonable way to use font object.
    that is really bad for cross-platform benefit or you
    need to carry font file with your application.
    have a way to set default font use createFont()
    object?In the past, I've carried the font file around with me. Given the number of graphics files, properties files and
    other assorted garbage that apps are already carrying around, it's not too unreasonable to have to add a
    TrueType font to the list of hangers-on (unless it's the size of Arial Unicode MS - 23Mb is a big ask sometimes)!
    Given that TrueType fonts themselves are essentially platform-independent, I don't see it as too much of an issue. But that's just me and my experiences! ;-)
    To set the font as default...
    try {
        FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("myFont.ttf");
        Font defaultFont = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, fis);
        setFont(defaultFont);
    } catch (FontFormatException ffe) {
        System.err.println("My TrueType font is corrupted.");
    } catch (IOException ioe) {
        System.err.println("My I/O stuffed up.");
    }There are various ways to set the font in even better ways, particularly if you're in a standalone app, but the above is at least a good basic one.
    Hope that helps,
    Martin Hughes

  • JSP + MySQL + Linux + Tomcat4.1 Chinese display problem

    Hello all!
    I have a problem to use JSP to display Chinese which is read from MySQL database. It works well under Windows XP. But when I move the code to Linux. The Chinese can't be displayed any more.
    The only way to display Chinese correctly is to remove <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=Big5" %>. This requires to set the browser encoding manually every time, which is not what I want.
    I am not sure if I need store the Chinese as Big5 or other unicode in MySQL. Right now, I just insert it into database directly without specifying the characters set.
    I have been searching for solutions for quite a while and can't get the answer. Please help me to conquer this problem!
    Below is the simplified version of my code:
    <html>
    <head>
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=Big5" %>
    <%@ page import="java.util.*" %>
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <%@ page import="ConnectionPool.*" %>
    <%@ page session="true" %>
    </head>
    <body>
    <table>
    <%
    ServletContext context = getServletContext();
    ConnectionPool connectionPool = (ConnectionPool)context.getAttribute("ConnectionPool");
    Connection connection = connectionPool.getConnection();
    Statement statement = connection.createStatement();
    String sqlCmd = "SELECT chinese_word FROM word";
    String chinese_word;
    ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery(sqlCmd);
    while (rs.next())
         chinese_word = rs.getString("chinese_word ");
         out.println("<tr><td>" + chinese_word );
         out.println("</td></tr>");
    connectionPool.free(connection);
    %>
    </table>
    </body>
    </html>
    Thanks a bunch,
    Sophie

    hi
    i am india so no much command on chiness, but, as a solution process , i suggest this
    in jsp, response is the default object, so, whereever u want chiness char, use
    response.setContentType("text/html; charset=Big5");
    and again swith to normal english mode
    hope it proceeds...

  • How can I display Chinese Character correctly in JSP

    <p>Dear Expert,</p><p>Now I develop web application which using CR report, the development tool is IBM RAD(rational) and the database is DB2 UTF-8. Because need user to input something in JSP, so the programmer use "GB2312" to convert to insert into the database. But when I create the crystal report and view in the web, the Chinese character can&#39;t disply correctly, like "???????", even I formated the font in report, doesn&#39;t work too.</p><p>And I set the report JSP charset to "GB2312" or "UTF-8", both of them failed. • Display Chinese characters on JSP under WebLogic 6.1

    We've recently migrated from WebLogic 5.1 to 6.1 and we found that all those
    Chinese JSP pages cannot display properly under Solaris, but it works on
    some Windows 2000 machines (but everything work under 5.1).
    However we haven't made any special changes to any configuration in all
    these machines. Why some of them work and some of them doesn't ? Those W2K
    machines work are running English version of Windows 2000, but with Chinese
    character sets installed.
    Our Chinese JSP pages use big5 character encoding instead of unicode.
    I've read a number of messages in this newsgroup but I'm still very
    confusing on how to fix the problem ...

    Hi,
    I have the same problem here. I am using weblogic 6.1 on W2k server. I save
    prpblem from those static contents in the jsp file, but those data in chinese
    from oracle database is working fine. I create a simple jsp file just with a simple
    text "hello world" in chinese, I save one as a html and one as a jsp. When I run
    this two under weblogic 6.1, the html file display correctly but the jsp is not.
    I try "UTF-8", "GB2312" and other charsets but all not working with jsp files.
    Please help.... Thank you.

    Dear Ricky,
    Could you please check the following :
    If you are on Sun Solaris systems please check the LC values of your
    =
    environment as shown in example below.
    This is the cause of many troubles due to the fact that the JVM =
    considers these parameters to encode.
    (example given for Italian display, so I guess for you this will be =
    Big5)
    On Solaris 7 the right settings are=20
    LC_COLLATE=3Dit.ISO8859-15
    LC_CTYPE=3Dit.ISO8859-15
    LC_MESSAGES=3Dit
    LC_MONETARY=3Dit.ISO8859-15
    LC_NUMERIC=3Dit.ISO8859-15
    LC_TIME=3Dit.ISO8859-15=20
    on Solaris 8=20
    LC_COLLATE=3Dit_IT.ISO8859-1
    LC_CTYPE=3Dit_IT.ISO8859-1
    LC_MESSAGES=3Dit
    LC_MOLC_COLLATE=3Dit.ISO8859-15
    LC_NUMERIC=3Dit_IT.ISO8859-1
    LC_TIME=3Dit_IT.ISO8859-1
    Also another point to check is=20
    In All Weblogic Releases :
    You can add the flag -Dfile.encoding=3DUTF8 in the startup line to force
    =
    default encoding in the JVM
    In your Webloigc 5.1 property file
    # WEBLOGIC CHARACTERS PROPERTIES
    weblogic.httpd.inputCharset./russian/*=3DISO-8859-5
    weblogic.httpd.inputCharset./utf/*=3DUTF-8
    weblogic.httpd.inputCharset./french/*=3DISO-8859-1
    weblogic.httpd.inputCharset./japan*=3DShift_JIS
    # FOR ENCODING THE WHOLE SITE IN UTF-8, UNCOMMENT THE FOLLOWING LINE
    #weblogic.httpd.inputCharset./*=3DUTF-8
    In your weblogic.xml's Weblogic 6.1 and later :
    <weblogic-web-app>=20
    <charset-params>=20
    <input-charset>=20
    <resource-path>/japan*</resource-path>=20
    <java-charset-name>Shift_JIS</java-charset-name>=20
    </input-charset>=20
    </charset-params>

    <input-charset>=20
    <resource-path>/russian*</resource-path>=20

    </charset-params>=20
    <charset-params>=20
    <input-charset>=20

    <java-charset-name>UTF-8</java-charset-name>=20
    </input-charset>=20
    </charset-params> =20
    </weblogic-web-app>
    As you may have noted, the ressouce-path is starting from root, and =
    after you insert the directory where you want to define de encoding.
    This will influence the JVM when performing a compilation (please clean
    =
    the temp directories from any compiled jsps before re-starting your =

    Please reply in the forum is you still face the problem after all these
