Chinese Language Unreadable on Phone

I purchased my Nokia 6680 from Dubai and now am using it in China. I am not able to read Chinese text in it as they cannot be identified by this phone. Instead I get BOXES in place of Chinese characters. How this problem can be resolved? If anybody has any information pls respond.

That is because the phone bought outside the Chinese speaking region does not include Chinese fonts to display Chinese characters.
You could try asking a Nokia service center in China whether they can put Chinese version of phone software (firmware) on your phone.

I wanted to buy this phone in HK, and if i had bought it there everything would be great. But they had it sold out, so i tried to buy it in Holland, then Belgium, France but the price was killing ( double the HK's price). Finally i found it in Bulgaria at a reasonable price.
Now i am in the middle of a big struggle how to make it read and write simplified chinese. Some friends told me that it is easily done if i go to a 'service' and they FLASH my phone, but as i know that after your phone has been flashed, it is usually ready to be thrown away, i dont really dare to do that, so i thought that there could be a better solution.
E-71 is my phone, and this one is a really masterpiece !
I want to tell Nokia that they finally did a phone that is working! I have been using Nokia for 10 years, and this is the first one which is really good !
All the other **bleep** i had is so slow that you can take a nap between commands.
    thanks for the reply !
I will go to ask Nokia, but i know that the result is.

  • Chinese Language in N95

hi i hv just got a n95 eu version and i'd like to install chinese language in my phone. Could any1 help?
    Thanks

Regardless of the language of your Nokia Software Updater, the phone is still the same and will always have the same languages.
As others had already said in this thread before you posted, the solution is to go to a Nokia Care Point and have them install a Chinese language pack for you. There may be a charge for this. Also note that you will have to have the language pack re-installed if you have to reset the phone for any reason (including a firmware update).

Hi, I'm new here, however I face a problem after updating the firmware of my N73 to V4.0736.3.2.1 that is it cannot read chinese language which makes SMS-ing hard. Can anyone kindly suggest me a solution?
I've tried using Hong Kong's NSU and etc. It's still the same and frankly speaking, all the updates only comes with English, Malaysia, Pilipino, Indonesia but no Chinese.
    Thanks!

i have change my phone language to english. but the phone shows chinese language in the internet pages and with call details. how to change it. why is this occuring?

If the phone is not unlocked, let's say for example it is locked to another carrier such as at&t, when you put in the Tmobile SIM in, the phone would complain about the SIM.
Does your phone do that? If yes, then the party that sold you the iPhone4S (if you purchased it from another person) may have not done the unlocking properly, and that may explain why Tmobile is insisting on the phone being locked.
If you purchased your iPhone4S new from Apple, did you pick Tmobile, or did you choose unlocked?
If you picked the Tmobile choice, then it should come up ready to use.
If you picked the unlocked choice, then you would need to visit Tmobile to purchase a nano-SIM and usually they should be more than willing to help you, since you're paying for their service.
But as you have indicated, this phone is under AppleCare, so if it doesn't work with a supposedly good Tmobile SIM, the quickest way to fix this is to get a replacement phone. When we troubleshoot we always try the least time consuming methods first.
You may have noticed it, that a good number of unfortunate uses of the iPhone4S have had their wifi become strangely disabled after upgrade to iOS7. Your situation is the reverse, your wifi is useable but not your cellular network.
In the mean time, you can apply for a Google Voice account (see http://www.google.com/voice), and obtain a free North American telephone number. You can then download one of many free Google Talk applications. Set it up, and you will be able to call and receive phone calls using your wifi. This would be just for the transition period before you get a useable phone.
Google voice provides average voice quality calls to and from US & Canada numbers for free for 1 hour per call. You can use this as a temporary work around while you are waiting for your replacement phone.
    Cheers!

  • Chinese language pack on English-language Nokia E7...

I'm based in Manila and just bought a Nokia E72 cellphone here locally in the Philippines. The unit is labeled E72-1.
I needed a cellphone which can display Chinese-language (both Traditional & Simplified Chinese) characters.
Unfortunately, this E72 I bought here only has the English language.
I've read that the Nokia E72 in Hong Kong / Taiwan / Singapore can display both English and Chinese language.
Is it possible to have the Nokia E72 add a Chinese language pack to display Chinese characters? I really need the Chinese display capability since I regularly have contacts who send me important SMS messages with Chinese characters.
If it's not possible to add the Chinese character display capability, I may be forced to let go of this Nokia E72 and perhaps have to order it instead from Hong Kong (or perhaps Taiwan or Singapore) where I presume the Nokia E72 there will have the English + Chinese display capability built-in.
Although not as important as the Chinese-display capability, I would also like if it could have Chinese language input capability installed on this E72. Is this also possible?
Note that I don't need the phone system menus/commands to be displayed in Chinese language (and actually prefer them to be English language). I only need the phone to display/input Chinese characters in the SMS messages.
Please advise so that I can make a decision as soon as possible, whether to let go of this locally-bought E72 with only English language and instead procure a unit from abroad with the Chinese language display (and input) capability.

I'd like to add some more information which may or may not be exactly useful for those who have the same issue as mine:
Adding as much Chinese as possible on the E72 without Chinese language pack:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/e72/software
Mobile dictionary language packages Translate words into the language of your choice. Add new languages to your pre-installed Mobile dictionary application from Mobile dictionary download page >>Text-to-Speech language packages and voice packages
Let your phone read your messages out loud with Text-to-speech, a tool which allows you to listen to text messages, multimedia messages, and emails. To utilize your Message Reader application download language packages and voice packages at the Text-to-speech page >>
    1) Using the above page, one can download Chinese dictionary (Traditional and Simplified Chinese versions available).
It seems that after installing both dictionaries for the Mobile Dictionary application, I can fire up the Mobile Dictionary app and choose Target language to Traditional and Simplified Chinese.  The Traditional Chinese characters don't seem to display (some characters display while others are "square boxes"; but the Simplified Chinese characters appear to display correctly.)
So, it appears that the dictionary app can display Chinese characters (at least Simplified Chinese) after installing, although the SMS messages still display "square boxes" where there are Chinese characters.
    2) Download Chinese [Mandarin] (or Chinese [HK]) language text-to-speech.  Now even though the E72 doesn't display Chinese characters (they show up as square boxes), I can use the msg reader to read those "square boxes" messages and it will read them in Chinese.  So at least, that's one way of having Chinese read back to you although the characters themselves can't be displayed.  (Set Language Detection to "On" in the Speech settings so it automatically recognizes Chinese; or one could also set the Voice Language to Mandarin Chinese so that even the voice prompts are read in Mandarin Chinese -- however, if Language Detection is set to "Off", it will try to read English SMS messages as per Chinese pinyin -- ie. incorrectly.).
One bug I notice is that for Chinese character email messages (Nokia Messaging). If I set my Language to English, but set the Speech setting of Language Detection to "On", and then activate the "Listen/Read" email messages, then the Msg Reader will hang up the phone. I had to use a utility called JBakTaskman to forcefully close Msg Reader (if don't have JBakTaskman, then have to turn off the phone and turn it back on).  So it looks like while the Language Detection can auto-detect Chinese characters in SMS messages and read them properly in Chinese, it seems to hang up in Email Messages.

  • Chinese language pack

I brought my Nokia N97 in the UK with Vodafone.
Can someone please tell me how to go about installing Chinese language pack to enable me to read Chinese characters.
At the moment, the characters are displayed as square shape.
I want my phone to act as if I brought it from Hong Kong.
Please tell me step by step of what to do.
    thanks

Any Care Point should be able to do this for you.
There may well be a charge for this because the absence of Chinese support on a phone intended for the UK market where Chinese languages are not official languages is not a fault in the phone and therefore has nothing to do with the warranty.
Note that there is the possibility that a language pack installed independently of firmware may well be wiped when you update the firmware. The product code of your phone will not be changed, which means that Nokia Software Updater is going to pull down the original software and language packs for THAT product code when it's time for an update.
You should be able to write in Chinese after the language pack is installed, although I don't know what input method is used (probably pinyin).

  • E61 firmware update problem - Chinese language los...

I have a E61 which reads and writes English and Simplified Chinese characters. The product code is 0529664 and apparently it was for English and Spanish languages. The English/Chinese language pack was apparently flashed by a third party in Beijing.
After updating the new firmware yesterday, the phone reverts back to English/Spanish. My phone now is essentially a piece of brick living in China!!!
Anyone having a genuine English/Chinese version (identified by a Chinese character "Zhong" on the "Car" key at lower left coner of keyboard) kindly tell me the product code (just below the IMEI code, on the sticker in the battery compartment ) so that I can buy a new E61 with right product code.
Alternatively can someone who has done it tell me how to install a Chinese language pack.
    Many thanks,

  • Chinese language in need!!!

Got my N73 2 days back and I found out that it does not have chinese language installed in the phone. Does anyone know where to get chinese language or character software to install where i can read my chinese?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I needed the Chinese Language too, personally I understand that for certain combination of the languages is not possible (due to Nokia did not make that specific combination).
However, could I know how I can make a "choice" of choosing which combination of languages? That Nokia already make available?
Actually, I own a N73 and it was installed with Chinese simplify language earlier.
Recently, I downloaded the software update from Nokia and executed the firmware upgrade, as I can tell from the discussion here; seems like my phone's "was" originally installed with a different firmware package (which was not idented for this product), so after I executed the firmware upgrade, the Chinese Simplify langauge had "gone" and replace with another set of languages combination.
May I know, how could I revert this? Of cause, the best is to be able to "switch" to a different package with the latest firmware (which includes chinese simplify language); But I do expected if this is not possible, then how could I download or *where* to get back my OLD firmware which was having the "chinese simplify" language) at least.
    Thanks in advanced.

  • Lost Chinese Language After Update

    G'day,
I recently bought a 7230 while living in China and downloaded and installed the Ovi program for my PC.  On running Ovi, with my phone connected via USB, I saw that there was an update available for the phone so I went through the update process. I have now lost all of the Chinese language options.
It is a major annoyance as I get a lot of texts in Chinese and, although I can't type in Chinese, I need to be able to send text from my phone to people who may not be able to read English.  I have read that it isn't possible to install a language onto the phone, which seems silly, to say the least, but is it at least possible to install an updated ROM for this region?
    Kinda peaved!!!

The phone you bought is most likely a 'grey-import' intended for a market elsewhere than China, and the person who unofficially imported it added the Chinese language pack to make it look legitimate without caring that you would lose that language in any update.
As Farby states, the only legimate way to have it added back is to ask a Nokia service point. For future reference, it is best to check these things when buying phones because this kind of thing becomes more and more common - the big problem is that if you phone genuinely isn't one intended for sale in your country, then the Nokia warranty won't be valid.

  • Chinese language not support in N93i...

hi.. i have trouble with my nokia N93i, is it anyone here using nokia N93i with chinese word inside.. coz my phone is not support chinese language, i already update my fone but still don't have chinese language.. anyone here can help me??

The phone you have was evidently not intended for the Chinese market. Chinese language would have been in it otherwise.
You will have to take your phone to your nearest Nokia Care Point and ask them to install a Chinese language pack. They may charge for this even if your phone is new since there's nothing actually wrong with it. Also note that a reset or a software update will erase the language pack and you'll have to return to the NCP and have it installed again.

  • Chinese language option

Hi my e61i was purchased in India and does not have a Chinese language option. Would appreciate any advice as to where and how this can be added to my phone. Many tks in advance.

Help should be provided by a Nokia Care Point to add languages to your phone. There may be a small charge for this service, depending on country and warranty regulations.
Care points/service centers and repair info:
    UK • Europe • Asia-Pacific • USA •
Canada • Middle East and Africa
Any other country: Click here, select your country, go to the support section, then select repair.
By clicking the "Kudos!" or the "Solution?" button on the right you can say "Thank You" and you´ll show the author and others that the post is useful.
The day we stop improving is the day we stop being good.

  • Chinese Language for N73

    Hi,
I recently purchased a N73 from UK some months back, and right now i would like to set the language for the phone to be Mandarin, but it doesn't have that language. Does anyone know how or where i can go about doing that? Thank you
    regards,
    James

You'll have to take the phone into a Nokia Care Point and ask them to install a Chinese language pack.
Note that the absence of support for Chinese in a phone intended for the UK market is not a fault in the phone and that the installation of the language pack is therefore not covered by the warranty. There may be a charge for this service.
Also note that languages installed independently of the phone's firmware do not survive firmware updates or phone resets. If you do update the phone's firmware or reset the phone after having the language pack installed, the pack will be erased and you'll have to have it re-installed.

  • Lumia update will lose Chinese language display?

i'm going to update my Lumia 710, but i afraid it will lose Chinese language as my old Samsung mobile phone after the updated.

Thanks for your feedback! As long as you update your Lumia 710 through Zune it will retain all installed languages and other (personal) content.
