If you just want a word processor that can create Chinese text, then just about any one will do. See this page:
http://www.yale.edu/chinesemac/pages/apps.html
If you must have the menus and dialogs of the word processor program in Chinese, the choice is probably more limited -- let us know if that is the case.
As for email, Mail and almost all normal email programs can write and read Chinese, and the same is true of most web browsers if you use webmail:

  • Chinese language pack on English-language Nokia E7...

I'm based in Manila and just bought a Nokia E72 cellphone here locally in the Philippines. The unit is labeled E72-1.
I needed a cellphone which can display Chinese-language (both Traditional & Simplified Chinese) characters.
Unfortunately, this E72 I bought here only has the English language.
I've read that the Nokia E72 in Hong Kong / Taiwan / Singapore can display both English and Chinese language.
Is it possible to have the Nokia E72 add a Chinese language pack to display Chinese characters? I really need the Chinese display capability since I regularly have contacts who send me important SMS messages with Chinese characters.
If it's not possible to add the Chinese character display capability, I may be forced to let go of this Nokia E72 and perhaps have to order it instead from Hong Kong (or perhaps Taiwan or Singapore) where I presume the Nokia E72 there will have the English + Chinese display capability built-in.
Although not as important as the Chinese-display capability, I would also like if it could have Chinese language input capability installed on this E72. Is this also possible?
Note that I don't need the phone system menus/commands to be displayed in Chinese language (and actually prefer them to be English language). I only need the phone to display/input Chinese characters in the SMS messages.
Please advise so that I can make a decision as soon as possible, whether to let go of this locally-bought E72 with only English language and instead procure a unit from abroad with the Chinese language display (and input) capability.

I'd like to add some more information which may or may not be exactly useful for those who have the same issue as mine:
Adding as much Chinese as possible on the E72 without Chinese language pack:

Mobile dictionary language packages Translate words into the language of your choice. Add new languages to your pre-installed Mobile dictionary application from Mobile dictionary download page >>Text-to-Speech language packages and voice packages
Let your phone read your messages out loud with Text-to-speech, a tool which allows you to listen to text messages, multimedia messages, and emails. To utilize your Message Reader application download language packages and voice packages at the Text-to-speech page >>
    1) Using the above page, one can download Chinese dictionary (Traditional and Simplified Chinese versions available).
It seems that after installing both dictionaries for the Mobile Dictionary application, I can fire up the Mobile Dictionary app and choose Target language to Traditional and Simplified Chinese.  The Traditional Chinese characters don't seem to display (some characters display while others are "square boxes"; but the Simplified Chinese characters appear to display correctly.)
So, it appears that the dictionary app can display Chinese characters (at least Simplified Chinese) after installing, although the SMS messages still display "square boxes" where there are Chinese characters.
    2) Download Chinese [Mandarin] (or Chinese [HK]) language text-to-speech.  Now even though the E72 doesn't display Chinese characters (they show up as square boxes), I can use the msg reader to read those "square boxes" messages and it will read them in Chinese.  So at least, that's one way of having Chinese read back to you although the characters themselves can't be displayed.  (Set Language Detection to "On" in the Speech settings so it automatically recognizes Chinese; or one could also set the Voice Language to Mandarin Chinese so that even the voice prompts are read in Mandarin Chinese -- however, if Language Detection is set to "Off", it will try to read English SMS messages as per Chinese pinyin -- ie. incorrectly.).
One bug I notice is that for Chinese character email messages (Nokia Messaging). If I set my Language to English, but set the Speech setting of Language Detection to "On", and then activate the "Listen/Read" email messages, then the Msg Reader will hang up the phone. I had to use a utility called JBakTaskman to forcefully close Msg Reader (if don't have JBakTaskman, then have to turn off the phone and turn it back on).  So it looks like while the Language Detection can auto-detect Chinese characters in SMS messages and read them properly in Chinese, it seems to hang up in Email Messages.

  • Internationalization for Chinese Language

    Hi All
I need to impelement the chinese language in Swing components. I followed the INternationalization steps from Java tutorial. I have a property file which contains the necessary mapppings for the chinese equivalents of english words.
    <filename>.zh.CN.properties
on executing the application it is nort displaying any characters for the chinese equivalent.
Kindly reply also to my id at [email protected]

Typing Chinese characters into the properties file is not part of the java capabilities. For example, you could use something like Microsoft Word to create your properties file including Chinese characters. You would save the file as some type of encoded text (I prefer UTF8 myself) and then use the Sun "nativetoascii" program to convert the file to a form where all your non-ASCII characters are represented by the Unicode escape sequence. (for example, \u347a ). It is this last file that is read by java when it gets your resource bundle at run time.hi joe,
sorry, but my basics are not strong, i could not get you. my project manager has asked me to use Arial unicode MS. so how do i get chinese characters in word , i did not understand.
You would save the file as some type of encoded text >>(I prefer UTF8 myself) and then use the >>Sun "nativetoascii" program to converti did not understand this can you eloborate.
do i hava an option of typing in english, and it gets converted to unicode in the properties file.
    please help
    thanks,
    kiran

  • Importing the Chinese language

    Hello colleagues,
I have a problem with importing the Chinese language into the customer's system.
Setup: classic 3 system landscape ECC 6.0 on Windows X64 / SQL Server 2005. Defined clients on development: 302 & 303, acceptance: 200 & production: 100. Required languages: English, German & Chinese.
Importing English & German caused no problems. At first, importing the Chinese language seemed to be ok as well, but apparently their are some "missing" parts in the customer clients. Missing is not the right word, because I supplemented the Chinese language with English so that these missing parts appear in English when logged on in language ZH.
Now I found out that the Chinese translation for some of these parts does exist in client 000, for example the description of the different views in transaction MM03. I've checked table T133B and saw that for client 000 and language 1 (Chinese) the real Chinese translations were there. For client 302 or 303 and language 1, the descriptions are in English...
My question: how can I replace the current (supplemented) English translations in the customer clients with the "real" Chinese translations that exist in client 000? I've tried every available option in transaction SMLT (basic supplementation, expert supplementation, nsrefill, ...) but to no avail: the English texts are still there...
Thank you for your help and best regards,
    Steven

Solved it by re-importing the entire language pack in client 000.

  • What word processor also corrects grammar? I purchased Pages only to find out that it doesn't!

Can someone recommend a word processor that corrects grammar as well as spelling? Pages was recommended to me in my local Apple store but it doesn't help with grammar. Note: Don't believe everything you are told!

Microsoft Word does a grammar check, and this site has a list of free grammar checkers: http://www.yourdictionary.com/dictionary-articles/free-online-grammar.html. But do be aware that grammar corrections are nuanced things, not so easy for any computer to correctly point out as compared to spelling. I offer this quote on the topic of computerized grammar checkers:
"...for the most part, accepting the advice of a computer grammar checker on your prose will make it much worse, sometimes hilariously incoherent."--Geoffrey K. Pullum, linguist.
The best grammar checker is always a real person who is fluent in the language reading over what you've written.

  • Word processor on iphone

anyone have any idea if on the new software coming out they will have a word processor, i mean its supposed to be the latest technology and not having a word processor is a real pain
<Edited by Moderator: Language - Please See Terms of Use>

    Allan Sampson wrote:
Due to the SDK - software developers kit for the iPhone and iPod Touch released on March 6, more than likely, yes. Apple may provide their own word processor for the iPhone called Pages, which is compatible with Word, and Microsoft may develop a version of Word that is iPhone compatible, but this is anyone's guess at this point.
I'm assuming that Dataviz will eventually release an office package for iPhone, as they already have one for Palm, WinMob, Blackberry & Symbian.
To each his/her own, but the last thing I'm interested in doing is typing a formal letter on such a small device.
I've used Documents to Go (Dataviz) for many years on my Palm devices. The spreadsheet alone replaces most of the calculators in the App Store. Being able to edit Word documents while on the road is a very valuable feature. Interestingly, the Word and Excel apps in Docs 2 Go are far better than Microsoft's own on WinMob.

  • Chinese language not support in N93i...

hi.. i have trouble with my nokia N93i, is it anyone here using nokia N93i with chinese word inside.. coz my phone is not support chinese language, i already update my fone but still don't have chinese language.. anyone here can help me??

The phone you have was evidently not intended for the Chinese market. Chinese language would have been in it otherwise.
You will have to take your phone to your nearest Nokia Care Point and ask them to install a Chinese language pack. They may charge for this even if your phone is new since there's nothing actually wrong with it. Also note that a reset or a software update will erase the language pack and you'll have to return to the NCP and have it installed again.

  • Nokia 5300 chinese language setting missing

My phone is Nokia 5300 Express Music. The first time i'm using Nokia PC Suite, going to update some software. The software is firewall update. After updated, i realized my phone language setting is changed. Chinese and Malay language is gone and others language like romana, deutsch and something else was appear. I think maybe is the software updated so the language setting also changed. So i might need help to change the language setting back to chinese cause i need chinese language to use for my phone book in chinese words.
Anyone is know about any software to help me fix my problem???
Hope to hear some good advice and help from nokia supporter.
    Thanks & Regard!

Your phone was intended for sale in a part of the world other than where you are. The importer/retailer installed the appropriate language packs for you but didn't tell you that this was the case. If you have a gripe against anyone, it's against the importer/retailer.
We can't direct you to the Nokia care points for your country because we don't know what your country is. What you can do is go to http://www.nokia.com and follow directions to support for your country from there.

  • Lightweight word processor

Hi, all! AFAIK there are lots of Openbox/XFCE/Awesome/XMonad/PekWM/etc lovers among Archlinux, which means that this board is the best place to ask for an advice if one looks for a lightweight app. I am looking for a lightweight word processor. Something with support for basic formatting and some (or at least one) major format. I am aware of AbiWord (didn't like it though), Ted (good thing, too bad it is inactive these days) and... nothing else! Can anybody advice me something here?

    jumzi wrote:
yeah abiword for opening of .doc files.
But if you want a lightweight solution for writing articles, or really just anything, in a lightweight and wellformated way i would recommend the (g)vim/latex solution, works really well for me.
Yeah, right! I also look into this direction after all. But I would rather not use LaTeX/Lout, since that is way too advanced for my needs (I don't write tech articles, etc) and would rather write using some so called lightweight markup language. Currently, I'm thinking about txt2tags. Can anyone recommend me anything here? There are the requirements:
-easy to learn, keeps the source readeble
-feature-rich at the same time. For example, I could not find the way for making annotations in txt2tags
    -actively developed
-highlight support can be added to the majority of text editors via plugins, etc.
-can have RTF as an output format

    Hi,
The operation system for my computer is Window 8.1. I am currently trying to install a chinese game. Even though I have downloaded and install all the chinese language pack, I have even set the regional language locale to chinese (similified / traditional),
the chinese characters will not display properly in the game. Some people told me i need to set the locale to Chinese PRC, but I am not sure where to download this PRC language pack for window 8.1 (as I only have chinese simplified and chinese traditional).
I would greatly appreciate if someone can give me a hand in solving this problem. Thank you for your help in advance.

  • Pages: Is there a way to make lines independent, like a real word processor

There are so many things that infuriate me about Pages. Save As.. missing, autosave, etc which are NOT like 99% of other apps on the Mac.
    Specifially (today):
I have a letter in Pages. It’s a standard business letter you have see 1m times.
After the first line of the address, at the top of the letter, I insert a carriage return and BINGO, the tabs in the middle of the letter are suddenly all messed up.
    Grrrrrr.
Is there a way to make lines independent in Pages? I have this crazy belief that letters are not Web Pages, not HTML, and that an extra line somewhere should not reformat following lines way down the page.
Alternately, is there some 3rd party word processor that works like the old Apple Works, with graphics and tables you can recommend?
    Thanks

Save As is still there, hold down the option key as you go to the File menu. This is not Pages, it is Mountain Lion.

Then you are doing something wrong, probably pounding away at spaces, tabs and returns to position things. Turn on invisibles to see what is going on:
Menu > View > Show Invisibles
If you have strings of tabs, spaces and returns that is the problem.

Yes, hit the return key. Like every other Word Processing program.

Time to learn Pages. AppleWorks is dead. Stop pining for it. This is a case of user error and instead of blaming Pages, it would pay to find out what you have done and stop doing that.
Pages, except for the fancy DTP features, tables and charts works like most other Word Processing apps. Just a case of learning new tricks. My guess is you have other stuff going on.
