Chinese Symbols over my iPhoto on screen saver

My screen saver is pictures that I have in my iPhoto. and all of the pictures that I have on iPhoto are fine. HOWEVER, When it goes to screen saver some of the pictures are covered with this odd chinese picture thing. A bunch of different odd digital looking pictures. Does anyone else have this? and what is it, and how do I get rid of it?

Hi.
I have a very similar problem. It started around July 2010 possibly after I copied some photos from a relatives camera. I am wondering if some sort of virus was copied over. ( Could be a coincedence tho'.)
I am not currently running iphotos as I have lost the disc after a Hard disk re-format!
Good Luck!

  • How can get my Iphotos as screen saver ...all disappeared after upgrading ...I have done as suggested in deleting the files from the Finder ..now just left with the "squirly default " screensaver option

How can I get  my Iphotos to show as my screen saver please ?  all disappeared after upgrading ...I have done as suggested and deleted all relevant files , but now am only left with the "Squirly " screen saver option in the drop down menu and no option for Iphoto library.

Slow, intermittent.  Sometimes bootable sometime not. Odd behavior.
Sounds to me like a classic case of your HD failing.
Your SMART status may still show verified, with no errors on the Apple Hardware Test, Disk Utility shows no problems on Disk Repair-  this is of no help.
I trust you have a good back-up and a bootable clone.

  • Automatic Ken burns and framing in iPhoto and Screen saver

I am generating a slideshow from iPhoto. When I have framed the photos properly I am checking my slideshow as a screen saver. Automatic Ken Burns options and framing are ok. Now I try to generate a slideshow directly in iPhoto, and the framing is completely changed and the Ken Burns options are different.
How can I get the parameters of the screen saver properly in iPhoto?
Is there a way to know which parameters are used in the screen saver and be set as the defaults parameters of the iPhoto slideshow?
Otherwise I found it difficult to set the same parameters as the screen saver for framing and Ken Burns.
I have tried to do the job with iMovie, it behaves the same as iPhoto, not a the screen saver.
    iPhoto is version is 7.1.4
    Mac os X is 10.4.11
    I would be grateful.

I do not have the feeling that the rendering engine of the screen saver option of the System Preferences of Mac OS X is different from the one included in iPhoto or in iMovie. But the difference between the first and the two others at least is the parameter setting is done automatically.
I have tried since at least two other slideshows, and I could get for fex photos the same settings thant for the system screensaver.
However as my slide show is about 140 photos, I was looking for a global setting instead of a one by one slide.
    Any further comments?
Thanks for the thoughts in any case.

  • Stream iphoto for screen saver

Is it possible to use your iphoto pics for the screen saver when ATV is set to stream?
My only options are: Apple Photos, Music Covers (only got that working once), My Photos (only works when syncing), MobileMe and Flickr.
This post has nothing to do with viewing my slideshow.
My wife going to kill me if I don't get this working! Please Help. XPLauzé

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
When you say stream, I assume you mean as a secondary library. Is there any particular reason why you are choosing to use a secondary library rather than a primary one.
    (Please excuse my unsupported nomenclature)

  • IPhoto & the screen saver

    Hi,
I would like the screen saver to just use the photos in iPhoto - not to use the exra photos in other folders in the Pictures fodler in my home directory. Is there something I can select that will just use the photos in iPhoto?

    Eric
Yes, just select the iPhoto Library in the in the ScreenSaver Preference Pane in System Preferences.

  • How to use iPhoto in screen saver under maverick os

With the Lion or Leopard O/S i am able to use my pictures directly from  iPhoto as screensavers.  However after upgrade to Maverick, it is now impossible to select iPhoto events as a source for any of the screensavers!
    any ideas, please help!

I too am having the same issue.  I have a circa 2007 iMac, and recently upgraded to OS 10.9.1.  I also moved all of my photos to an external hard drive (currently have iPhoto 9).  When I try to set to set up the computer screensaver, the iphoto library on the external drive is greyed out.
I may upgrade to iPhoto 11 if that it requirement, but if there is an easier solution, I will go for that.
    Thanks for any feedback!!

  • Screen saver no longer respects iPhoto albums in 10.4.8?

System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Screen Saver offers a list of iPhoto albums. It used to be that the screen saver would display pictures from the selected album only. But now all my iPhoto pictures are rotated through the screen saver, regardless of album selection. The only thing I've changed AFAIK is the 10.4.8 upgrade. Any way to get the old behavior back?
(I've found other posts about problems with iPhoto and screen saver, but nothing addressing this precise problem.)
    PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iPhoto 2.0.1

I just tried it, having also just updated (in fact I did about 12 updates all at once, including QuickTime, iPhoto 6.05 as well as the system update) and it worked as expected, just cycling thru the photos in the selected album.
I have seen cases in earlier versions of iPhoto and the OS where the screensaver wouldn't work when using System Prefs, but would it you selected it in iPhoto. Don't remember how the earlier version of iPhoto worked (I think there was a button in the toolbar at the bottom of iPhoto), the way it works in iPhoto 6 is very weird: you select an album, then select the photos, then go to the Share menu and select Desktop. It plasters all the photos onto your Desktop and launches the System Prefs where you can set the options for the Screensaver. You'll notice that instead of an album being selected there is a new folder in the top section called "iPhoto Selection." I then switched my Desktop back to its usual neutral gray and screensaver remained as I had set it. Truly goofy, but it might be worth a try.

  • Some screen saver photos 90 degrees flipped

I have the Apple TV set to show my photos, from iPhoto, in screen saver mode. All was OK until just now, and suddenly odd photos appear rotated 90 degrees. These would be pics that were taken in portrait mode on the camera, but have been rotated into the correct alignment within iPhoto. Nothing is different in iPhoto - the problem shots are still the right way round. It worked before; why not now, and how to get it working correctly again?

I'm sure. 3rd party editor not involved. What may have kicked it off is that a couple of times in the last two weeks I have had the problem of AppleTV not showing up in iTunes devices list, which I have only been able to fix by unlinking the Apple TV to my iTunes library and then relinking it. This of course causes the Apple TV to wipe all iTunes content and then re-download it from the computer. But I guarantee I had not monkeyed about with any of the photos in the mean time.

  • I have over 60,000 photos in my iPhoto.  When my screen saver comes on it randomly shows certain photos.  Often, these photos are old and I in turn find the desire to print said photo.  Is there a way the screen saver can convey a photo file name as well?

I have over 20,000 photos in my iPhoto.  When my screen saver comes on it randomly shows certain photos.  Often, these photos are old and I in turn find the desire to print said photo.  Is there a way the screen saver can convey a photo file name or location as well?  Can I create a slideshow of all my photos to cycle through at leisure with photo info?  Lastly,  I know I have duplicates and have tried numerous software programs to delete duplicates to no avail.  What do you recommend as a method to reduce duplicates on iphoto?  Thanks for your time.

    1. No.
    2. Yes.

  • I have iphoto 9 (version 8.1.2).  When I opened up iphoto it said that I had 0 pictures (it had over a 1,000) prior.  My screen saver was and has been set to a foler in iphoto and still displays the photos.  How do I retrieve my pictures?

When opening Iphoto (Iphoto 9 version 8.1.2) I went from hundreds of photos to 0.  I looked in my harddrive and could not locate the pictures under library or photos.  I tried rebuilding the system (ctl. alt. and opeing the program).  I would assume all my pictures are lost except for when my screen saver runs, I still see all of my old photos.  How can I retrieve my photos?

go in to finder than photos they should be somwhere in there. after you find them select add to iphoto

  • IPhoto Screen Saver with ghost images over teh top

I'm using iPhoto 5 and have the screen saver on my iMac G5 set to play out of my photo album. Just about every 10-15 phots get overlayed with a blurred image from some unknown source. They look like flags but always in a circular shape....not sure where they come from. Anyone else have this experience?

It is very weird, especially weird that two posters had that happen. I read in your other post about a long quitting time for iPhoto. I do know that my library of 3500 does take awhile to quit, but I have never had to force quit it. by the way, force quitting can damage a data file and cause the library not to open or show your photos.
I suggest you next do a rebuild.
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

  • Is there a way to get the screen saver on user "a" to use iphoto pictures from user "b"?

Is there a way to have the iphoto screen saver use the photos from a different iphoto user?  My husband leaves his account open and he has only old photos when the screen saver kicks in.   I would like to have my photos be able to pop up on his screen saver.  I need to find them in the system preferences screen saver place, but have it access my iphotos and not only his.  How?  Also, I would like a better system on organizing my photos.. I have them all in events by year and it is difficult of often find favorite specfic photos.  Thank you. Melody

In short, no. The whole point of different accounts is to keep your data separate from his, and your photos are your data.
You could share a library? It can be a bit complex.
You can use Fast-User switching to switch over to your account - takes a couple of seconds
As to organising your Photos - iPhoto is a database and offers pretty much unlimited options for organising your pics, but it takes a bit of work to go beyond the basic and automatic.
If you take the time to assign Places then you cn see all the photos in your Library based on where they were taken. (Of course, that's of limited use if they're all taken in your backyard ) Faces means you can sort the Library based on who's in the Photos.
Beyond that, simple thigns like naming the Events will help - Xmas 11, Bobby's Wedding, Rome 2009 and so on. You can then search on those basic words in the search box.
After that: Keywording. The following is a canned answer I use to describe my system. It may spark some ideas for you.
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 40k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • Random Screen Saver: How to remove iPhoto Library ?

When you tag "Use Random Screen Saver" in the System Preference Pane, the Screen Saver browses all the iPhoto Library.
How is it possible to get rid of that, as the "minus" button is not working (anyway it is grey for all the directories in the list) ?
iPhoto Library does not appear in the System/Preferences/Screen Savers as well.
Is this some bug from Snow Leopard ?

If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.
