Chkdsk utility?

itunes.exe.-corrupt file error. Told to run the chkdsk utlity. Anyone know what this is??

I'm going to make some assumptions here. I'm assuming you get this message whether or not your iPod is connected to your Windows computer, that you get it when you try and launch the iTunes program, and that it prevents you from launching iTunes. That being true, it sounds like Windows is telling you that iTunes.exe has become corrupt, and is suggesting you use the Windows chkdsk utility to determine whether your hard drive might be malfunctioning, and thereby corrupting files. Scandisk and chkdsk are both mini-programs in Windows that check the hard drive for errors. If you go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265/en-us there are some directions on how to use chkdsk. After running that, you could try downloading the latest copy of iTunes and re-installing it. If those don't work, there is a lot of good information on these boards about clean uninstall procedures, backing up your library etc. Try the search feature to review some of that stuff too. I hope it goes well for you.

  • Firmware Failure Error & Run chkdsk Utility

Hi We have 2 ipod nanos and we kinda have the same 2 problems with each.....We go into itunes make a play list, the ipod is connected, and it tries to update a pop up box appears and tells us there is an error and to write the chkdsk utility. Then to try and fix this we are supposed to download the latest update but can't do that either because when we click on restore an error box pops up saying firmware disk error - how can this be fixed as we have 2 ipods unable to be used. We are using Windows XP & have broadband connection (if that is of use) We have read replies to this problem before but we can't fix it...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I think are lost as to the structure of how Apple Discussions works.
Go back to where it says Discussions, and pick up:
Windows Compatible Technology's section, iPod, and post there.
This is the Mac OS X Mail & Address Book forum.
Someone here may still be able to answer your question, but it is usually best if you post in a section where people are known to have the same setup as the one you are having an issue with.

  • Album Artwork Database Corrupt  ・ run the chkdsk utility

when i connect my iPod, i get a pop up that says the iTunes Album Artwork database is corrupt and that I should run the Chkdsk Utility.
    What is the chkdisk utility?
    how can i run it?

thanks for the tip! i ran the chkdsk.exe program and it took about 5 minutes in all. after that, i reconnected the iPod and no problems.
    this actually solved 2 problems:
1 -the corrupt album artwork database is now fixed
2 -the unsolved error -48 message is gone and updating proceeds normally.
    thanks alot!

  • Running the chkdsk utility

the file or directory/ipod_control/itunes/temp file is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chk dsk utility.
I do not want to restore the ipod because I will lose the 250+songs I have already gotten from what I understand (These are songs I transfered to my ipod from a friends computer which I can't recopy so they are not in my library)
The other option I read was to open my comp and locate the drive ltter for ipod then click on start, run, type cmd. In the black window I typed chkdsk D: (my drive letter) r/f/
When I did this it said "The type of file system is RAW, chkdsk is not available for RAW drives.
Is there anyway to copy the songs into my library so I don't lose them if I have to RESTORE my ipod????? OR any other way to resolve this????
PLEASE HELP ME, I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THESE SONGS AND I NO LONGER HAVE ACCESS TO MY FRIENDS COMPUTER. THANK YOU
    ??   Windows XP

    Hi there,
The RAW file format refers to the hard drive inside the iPod. It looks like something is getting confused, such that it thinks your iPod is unformatted, or formatted with a RAW file format instead of the usual FAT/Mac OS format...
Exactly what did you type whilst trying out the chkdsk...?
    Kind regards,
    Gopha.
PS. In reponse to your other post about music - it is considered illegal to distribute music by the manner you are describing - it's still piracy, because to conform to licencing laws, your friend is entitled to have a copy of the music for himself, and only himself, since he purchased it. Him passing it on contravenes the licencing laws. Not to say that people don't do it... but it is illegal if I am correct in thinking...

  • Event ID 55 NTFS Error: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume.

One of our File Server getting this error. I explained to you what happened. One of the HDD has failed from this server, which is on RAID. So we put the new one. But we get the NTFS Error. We make the schedule to run the chkdsk /r /c. But still we get this
error on events viewer. Now i have the other problem is that this system's backup is taken care by Dell AppAssure application. this application took the snapshot of each hdd. but due to this error it stops. So I talk to the Dell person to resolve the problem,
but he said to resolve the problem of the NTFS Error. If you resolve this issue the application will work.
So can anyone please help me ASAP to resolve this issue? My sever operating system is Windows 2003 R2.
    Thanks.
    don

Doesn't the "/c" argument skip directory corruption tests? Have you tried just using "chkdsk /r" ?
The /I or /C switch reduces the amount of time required to run Chkdsk by skipping certain checks of the volume.

  • CHKDSK fails on fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on mid-2009 MBP with SSD

There was an earlier post about this that has been archived prematurely that I will reproduce below. The main issue is a flaw in the Windows 7 x64 CHKDSK of the SSD drive in the mid-2009 MBP= 5,2. With fresh OSX installs, bootcamp 3.1, Windows 7 x64 all updates, the CHKDSK operation checks files at about 1 per second in stage 4 of 5, verifying file data.
Moderators: please leave this open until it is actually resolved.

Windows 7 x64, MacBook Pro, frequent CHKDSK after HDD firmware update
    Posted: Nov 2, 2009 6:45 AM
Hello, I have been having filesystem problems on my Windows 7 partition since the HDD related firmware update (the latest Performance update) was released and installed onto this mid 2009 MacBook Pro.
The HDD is a 500 GB 7200 RPM model, but it never gave me any troubles under OS X before the "fix" and I know other users had intermittent problems with the HDD on their MacBook Pro's related to the HDD making noises and pausing.
The fix was released, I installed it and I started seeing my first problem in Windows 7 x64 a few days after... I cleanly shut the OS down, but when I booted it back it asked me to perform a coherency check to the Filesystem... I thought that the problem was related to the fact that I was using the RC1 build of Windows 7... although that problem never manifested itself in the weeks before the Performance Update (HDD firmware fix) was installed and Windows 7 x64 RC1 had been on there and used frequently.
I recently purchased Windows 7 retail a few days ago and after a bit of trouble-free operation I started having problems again... always shutting the PC down carefully and I was asked to run the CHKDSK utility at boot twice already.
    What to do?

    Hi there,
I have a different experience. I installed Windows 7 before the "performance update 1.0" came out. I actually experienced the chkdsk launch problem with Windows 7. I had done repartitioning and clean-install several times but cannot solve the problem. So I tried to install XP and Vista on my MBA (Mid 2009 with SSD) and found that these two OS doesn't introduce such problem.
To be honest, I'm not sure which caused such problem, Windows 7, a bootcamp driver, or EFI. But I'm sure that CHKDSK in Windows 7 has an obvious bug that needs to be patched (memory leak and maybe this problem as well). So now I'm using Windows Vista SP2. And I'm happy with Vista SP2 (seems to become faster and stable now).

  • ITunes. exe - Corrupt file message run chkdsk..

What is a chkdsk utility? How do I get to it?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions, Darlene!
The chkdsk utility is a part of the Windows OS but that's getting ahead of things.
Right now you want to make a pot of tea and pay a visit to your new friend Da Gopha:

iTunes recognizes the nano. it seams to be accepting songs, but when I drag and drop this is the message that appears. None of the songs I dragged and dropped are on the nano. The nano seems to be working fine otherwise.
