Chnaging Patient to Subject In Oracle Clinical Database designing

Dear Friends,
Iam using Oracle clinical RDC and My question is
1.I dont want to display Patient/s details in RDC page(entering into casebooks) while entering the data.
Is there any possibility to hide this patient details?
please let me know.comments from members are welcome.

u can always add data after a lock ie new data but cannot modify data (but if it was frozen it wouldve been better ..........u cant add data or modify after u freeze a study ).........so please go ahead and freeze ur study if u dont want any more new data. Hope this helps.

• Oracle Clinical database question

There was a database lock in Oracle Clinical RDC. It was confirmed by the database administrator that the lock was successful. However, the investigators at the sites were able to go in and approve additional pages after the lock. Can anyone tell me how this could have happened? I was under the assumption based on documentation that once the data was locked, it could no longer be updated but only viewed.
Thanks..

• Error Registring OC(Oracle Clinical) Database with TMS(Thesaurus)Database

Hi,
We have installed Oracle Clinical 4.5.2 on Windows platform and also Oracle TMS 4.5.2. However while doing the final step: The TMS Database Registration we get the following error in the installation log file:
ORA-20000: 822200-Oracle Clinical and TMS are not installed in this database.
Not sure how to resolve this.
When we try to launch the standalone TMS, we are able to do so. However two databases (OC and TMS) are not in sync.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I think that TMS should be in the same Oracle home. Architecturally, TMS does install in the same database instance as OC. OPA 4.5 is destined to change that, offering a stand alone TMS instance that integrates with specific instances of OC, RDC, AERS, etc. More details of that <fun> migration whenever 4.5 is officially released.
Hope this helps.

Doc ID: Note:10767.1
Subject: How to perform FULL System Export/Imports
Type: BULLETIN
Status: PUBLISHED
Content Type: TEXT/X-HTML
Creation Date: 18-APR-1994
Last Revision Date: 30-AUG-2002
Purpose
This article highlights some important points to consider when performing
a Full System Export and Import.
Scope and Application
It is intended to assist users performing FULL System Exports and Imports.
A Full System Export and Import is a useful way to replicate or clean up
a database. Please note the following guidelines when performing a Full
System Export and Import:
1. When performing the import, ensure you are pointing at the correct
instance. Always check values for the SID and two task driver before
proceeding.
*Note: On Unix systems, just entering a sub-shell, such as using
C-shell, can change the database that the import would work
against.
2. When possible, it is advisable to take a physical copy of the
exported database and the database you intend to import into before
starting the import. This ensures any mistakes are reversible.
3. NEVER run a FULL SYSTEM IMPORT on a machine that has more than one
database UNLESS you are 100% sure all tablespaces have been
pre-created. A full import will create any undefined tablespaces
using the same datafile names as the exported database. There are
situations where this is very dangerous:
-> If the datafiles belong to ANY other database, they will be
CORRUPTED. This is especially true if the exported database is
on the same machine, because its datafiles will be re-used by
the database you are importing into.
-> If the datafiles have names that clash with existing operating
system files.
4. When exporting, it is advisable to also produce a report showing
information you may need before / after the import:
-> List the tablespaces and datafiles
-> List the rollback segments
-> List a count, by user, of each object type such as tables,
indexes, etc.
This enables you to ensure that tablespaces have been pre-created
and to check the success of the import after it is complete.
5. If you are creating a completely new database from an export, remember
to create an extra rollback segment in SYSTEM, and make this available
in the init.ora file before proceeding with the import.
6. There are some versions of export that do not retain sequence numbers
correctly. It is advisable to select next_value for each sequence
after the export so that these can be checked after import.
Following these guidelines will help you to avoid major problems.

Subject: How To Copy an Oracle Database To Another Machine
Type: HOWTO
Status: PUBLISHED
Content Type: TEXT/X-HTML
Creation Date: 12-OCT-2001
Last Revision Date: 01-OCT-2003
goal: How to copy an Oracle database to another machine
fact: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition
fix:
Pre-requisites: The copy is between 2 machines, both have to be on the same OS
and have to have exactly the same database version installed.
1. Make sure the database you want to copy was closed with a SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE,
SHUTDOWN NORMAL or SHUTDOWN TRANSACTIONAL.
2. Copy init.ora and control files to create instance and be able to go in
mount mode. Check the init.ora for the locations where the controlfiles have
to be, if those locations are not valid on the machine put the control files on
different places and adjust the init.ora accordingly.
3.a. Copy the datafiles (all of them).
b. Copy the redo-logfiles (all of them).
4.a. (Unix only) Set the environment variables:
ORACLE_SID - set to the database name you wish to create
ORACLE_HOME - set to full pathname of the Oracle system home directory
PATH - needs to include $ORACLE_HOME/bin
b. (NT/2000 only) Do 'set ORACLE_SID=<SID>'
Use oradim to create the service for the instance. For more information
on oradim please refer to (the part that refers to creating a new instance):
Note:68720.1 Creating a new 7.3, 8.0, 8.1 Instance/Database
5. Use servermanager (check the name to use for your version of oracle) or
sqlplus (version 9i and above) to startup the database in mount mode.
Do
CONNECT INTERNAL/<PASSWORD>
then
STARTUP MOUNT
Then do a rename of the copied datafiles if they are not in the same path as on
the other machine. For all the files that are in the result of the query:
SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
do
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<filename>' to <
newfullpath>\<filename>';
6. Query the datadictionary for the old location of the redolog files using:
SELECT MEMBER FROM V$LOGFILE;
If the new place is not the same as the old do:
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<redologfilename>' to &
lt;newfullpath>\<redologfilename>';
7. Now open the database:
ALTER DATBASE OPEN;

Telling us that you are using 11.1 helps. But it is far from a complete description of the environment. What edition of the database are you using? What options are installed? What Enterprise Manager packs are licensed? Is any of this changable? Could you license another option for the database or another pack for Enterprise Manager if that was necessary?
What does it mean to you to "mask data"? Do you want to store the data on disk and then mask the data in the presentation layer when certain people query it (i.e. store the patient's social security number in the database but only present ***-**- and the last 4 digits to certain sets of employees)? Do you want to hide entire fields from certain people? Do you want to change the data stored in the database when you are refreshing a lower environment with production data? If so, do you need and/or want this process to be either determinisitic or reversable or both?

Similar problems, in my case I was trying out the DatabaseServer on an Oracle XE database using the Embedded OC4J A/S bundled with RC3; this combination turns out explosive :)
The service was simply doing a select statement and the number of connections kept growing and growing during my tests; you can see them from the command line when typing `netstat -t` - eventually it just stopped working while I was testing; in the web service it reported:
ORA-12519, TNS:no appropriate service handler found
But my listner was running !!! I tried the connection from JDS and it complained about the same thing - then eventually I tried it from sqlplus and it showed:
ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (%s) exceeded
So now finally we're getting somewhere - after googling I found this web site; a good laugh:
http://it.newinstance.it/2007/06/01/ora-12519-tnsno-appropriate-service-handler-found/
So basically I did from the command line the following:
lsnrctl stop;
sqlplus "/as sysdba"
shutdown immediate;
startup;
alter system set processes=150 scope=spfile;
shutdown immediate;
startup;
lsnrctl start;
Now hopefully this will solve it; I'd still like to know how to change the OC4J connection pool settings for the SOA stuff - is this possible at all or does it have some kind of minimum requirement ?
After restarting and testing a few times; my service is actually working so I'm very pleased :)

• Locating user tables in an Oracle 11g database

Excuse my ignorance on this subject
But our company has an Oracle 11g database that drives one of our business applications. I am not an oracle admin and there is very little documentation on the application itself, however the application seems to have its own set of explicit login (username and password) credentials so I am guessing they are hashed somewhere in the database tables.
My question would be – are there any default oracle tables where user credentials would typically be? or tips on tracking down where the password hashes may be? Or can this differ from application to application? Any tips welcome. Apologies for the naivity of the question. My goal is to identify which database accounts can query the table the hashes are in, as we have some users who can access the database for data analysis purposes - but I dont want them to have access to the table.

My goal is to identify which database accounts can query the table the hashes are in, as we have some users who can access the database for data analysis purposes - but I dont want them to have access to the table.The information relative to the user accounts is revealed in the view DBA_USERS, which normal users should not have a need to see. However, the passwords are stored in a true hash. It cannot be used directly, and cannot be reversed. So being able to see the hashed password does not in itself constitute a security risk.
When a user is being authenticated, the procedure that oracle uses is NOT to 'decrypt' the stored password to see if it matches the password presented by the user. Rather, the password presented by the user is hashed, and that hash value is compared against the stored value.My concern was if they could extract those password hash values, there are many free password crackers where if they run dictionary values against those hash values and if any match they then have some passwords to gain perhaps elevated access in the application.Such a method would have to assume a password, know how oracle 'salts' the password, hash the result, then compare to the hashed values from the table. If you employ even a modicum of password complexity enforcement, I doubt that your developers are going to have access to the kind of computing capacity that would be required to get a positive result within your lifetime.
You need to do three things
First and foremost, adhere to the principle of 'least privilege'. Do not grant a user account any privileges that are not required for that account to complete it's business task. That includes access to any tables or views. Be wary of any "--ANY---" privileges.
Second, use the password complexity function to enforce a reasonable level of password complexity.
Third, Set the user's profile to expire the pasword after 'x' number of days and prevent the reuse of a password until after 'y' iterations.

• URGENT:Installing TMS integrated with Oracle Clinical

hi ,
I am installing TMS integrated with Oracle Clinical .
In the 9i installer screens , one is for
" Destination Oracle HOme And Oracle HOme Name "
what should be given here a new Oracle home name and destination or the same where 9i for OC was installed .
Also can I install TMS and OC on Same database instance ?
thanks And regards

I think that TMS should be in the same Oracle home. Architecturally, TMS does install in the same database instance as OC. OPA 4.5 is destined to change that, offering a stand alone TMS instance that integrates with specific instances of OC, RDC, AERS, etc. More details of that <fun> migration whenever 4.5 is officially released.
Hope this helps.
