Chnaging the masthead.par

Hi,
I want to change the masthead.par by downloading the file to NWDS and Redeploy it to Portal.
Do any one has the documentation or links for doing this like changing the XML file and etc.
How to guide or any documentation for any par file is ok for me.
Thank You,
Murali.

Hi Murali
Open the portal prespective in NWDS.Import the par file by file@import@par.
Open the Dist@PORTAL-INF folder. You can see the JSP folder and inside this you can make changes.
For each component you create component name, config and profile will be there in the portalapp.xml. You can do this easily from Components tab in portalapp.xml.Add the securityZone and change it to high_safety if you are not able to create the iview after uploading. In the component profile you can set the properties for the iviews.
Use this link for editing portalapp.xml and follow the steps described
Portalapps.xml
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/41/e5a942ad920c31e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
Make sure that the jar files are added(masterheadcore &masterheadapi.jar)before deploying to server.

  • Modifying the Masthead

We are exploring new options to change the look and feel of the top navigation level navigation of the ajax framework page.
One of the options we are exploring is to use the ajax navigation api to display  three levels of navigation (maybe use a horizontal dropdown menu).
Is it possible to  copy the existing masthead and make changes? Is it possible to hide the tab based navigation and just show a horizontal dropdown menu as mentioned above?
How do we go about making these changes?
We have the trial version of the latest Netweaver CE (7.2) installed on Windows server.

  • Please send me com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak

Hi all, My work is to import the masthead.par file to eclipse and modify it and then to re-deploy it into portal. But i don't have access to <b>com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak</b> file. So, can any one send it to me please.......
My email id is [email protected]
    Thanks in advance.....

                                  VIJAY

    Hi Vijay,
    first, welcome on SDN!
About your question: It is quite critical to use some PAR of somebody else. You didn't give your version (SP / Patch Level), and deploying a masthead of a different version may end up in serious trouble, especially if you didn't backup your original version (which you have not, for you say you have no access...).
    If
    > My work is to import the masthead.par file to eclipse
then you should be provided with the PAR of have access to it. It is to be found on the server under .../WEB-INF/deployment/temp.
If you don't have physical access to the server, you may also get it through the portal: System Administration - Support -  Support Desk - Portal Runtime - Browse Deployment - [browse to the path given above, download the PAR]. Please have in mind that you're downloading a ZIP, from which you first will have to extract the PAR.
    Hope it helps

    Hi Sumangala,
Thanks for reply, You are talking about Enterprise Portal, the CE Environment is different we don't have options for browse deployment, compulsory we have to take from the server itself.
The files in server is also different
In EP we can find masthead in this location - /usr/sap/<SID>/J<Instance number>/j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/web-inf/deployment/pcd
    but,
In CE the structure is different we cannot find the exact path as above.
I searched files there but i got lot of files on masthead and i confused which file i have to use.

  • How to edit a copy of the masthead iView

    Hi,
I downloaded a copy of the masthead iView (com.sap.portal.masthead) in NW studio and I want to change the .jsp files by swapping the logo and the welcome text (shoud go to the right instead of left).
This is very easy to change in the JSP file, but somehow my NW studio doesn't allow me to make changes to the file.
How can I edit the import (from par) project?
    rgds
    -Daniel

    Hi Daniel
Did you download the com.sap.portal.masthead.par.bak file from this location.
    System Administration >Support>Portal Runtime-->Browse deployment >WEB-INF>deployment>temp>com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak
Import this file into NDS and it is advisable to change the sap to your company.
    Hope this is clear.

  • Reg: Using a single masthead par for multiple users

    Hi All
We need to implement different look and feel in the masthead for different users. For e.g. User A will see a different caption around the logo to that of User B. It could be different images for each user too. We have to achieve this with only one masthead par file as it is not tenable to have a par file for each user. What are the best ways to implement this?
    1. Store images/caption and other user specific data in the data base and based on the user login fetch the relevant info to build the masthead.
    2. An ugly yet effective way for images when the number of users are less --> keep images with same name in the par images folder and pick up the image based on the user logged in.
Is there a way to solve it with only rule collection, framework pages & iview properties? A solution based on this could be highly extensible as and when new users are created. Please advise on the feasibility of this option.
Also welcome are other suggestions which are better than the above ones.
    Regards
    Lakshminarayanan.V

    Hi Lakshminarayanan,
Im wondering you do want to show different mastheads for different users. Please try to consolidate the users into minimum groups/departments and have different desktop rule for them to show different mastheads.
If this can'tbe avoided, then we should with masthead custom option when users are large. In this case the first approach make sense to me but you have to take care of data base to update database and add images when there is a  new user created. Also, have a common folder in the server path and store the images over there. This is easy to maintain.

  • Need to add a link to the masthead area of the Portal

    Hi
I need to add a link to the masthead area of the portal. That link needs to be able to print the content of the current page.
Ihave downloaded the com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead into the NWDS.
Can anybody please let me know where exactly to modify the code.
i am guessing i may need to use window.print() to print the page.
    Thanks
    Sharath
    Thanks
    Sharath

Step 1: Adding new link in the masthead
    1. Rename the par file to your own namespace and import the PAR using eclipse
    2. To add your link - modify HeaderiView.jsp appropriately
    3. Build the PAR and export using Eclipse
    Step 2: Create an iView
    1. Content Administrator -> Portal Content -> Select the folder in which you need to create the masthead iView. Right click on the selected folder and "Select New From PAR" -> iView
    2. Select the PAR file name created by you in Step 1 a
    3. Choose "default" in Portal Component Selection
    4. Provide the properties for the iView and save
    Step 3: Modify Portal Masthead
    1. Add the iView created in Step 2 to the Framework Page of your application
    2. Remove the existing Masthead iView from the framework page and add iView created in Step 2 in the framework page.
    3. Note that the position should be the same where the previous masthead is removed.
Logoff and logon with the user who is assigned the framework page - you should be able to see the new masthead with links
Incase you are changing the default framework page and default masthead ensure that you have a backup so that you can revert.

I am trying to find which SCA file ultimately contains the par files:

    In EP-PSERV - com.sapportals.nav.defaultheaderiviews.sda contains the masthead.

I have been given the task of creating a new masthead of the portal but do not have access to the files, could someone please send me: com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak
I have tried to get this through Portal Runtime -> Browse Deployment but I always get an error when I try to upload the PAR file into NWDS.
Thank you in advance, if anyone sends it to me please post here also so others know (And so i can reward points)

    Hi Michael,
it's quite dangerous just to use "some" navigation.masthead, maybe different from you SPS/Patch version.
    The question is:
    > I always get an error
    > when I try to upload the PAR file into NWDS
Why that? Have you been aware that the downloaded file is a ZIP which <i>contains</i> the PAR in question?! (So you first have to unpack the PAR, which you want to import afterwards).
If yes, did you choose File -> Import -> PAR-File?!
If yes, what kind of error came up?
    Hope it helps

    Hi Detlev,
Thanks so much for your reply. Regarding "Create Portal Archive (EAR File)" everything is understood, thanks! In NWDS 7.3 everything must be deployed via .ear file
Regarding the libs... yes, of course I know I compile the sources against some libs Then, I'm gonna type it an example:
    - NWDS 7.0 > import com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par
Everything is ok and working. Now, the same in 7.3:
    - NWDS 7.30 > import com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par > LogInRedirect.jsp > exactly the same code as NWDS 7.0 (of course), but with errors in lines:
    <%@ page import = "com.sapportals.portal.navigation.*" %> >>> The import com.sapportals.portal.navigation cannot be resolved
    <%@ page import = "com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntime" %> >>> this is resolved correctly into SAP_EP\resources\prtapi.jar
I understand I must to add the corresponding libs for "com.sapportals.portal.navigation.*" to be used... but how I could know which one and where is located? I hope I'm explaining myself clear...
    Thx!!

  • Portal runtime error after modifying masthead par file

    Hi experts,
i tried to upload com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par in the portal (productive system) after modifying tooltip text of u201CHelpu201D link. i used Archive uploader.
After upload, status messages are correct.
But now in the masthead area, i have red message :
    "Portal runtime error"
"An exception occurred while processing your request"
I cannot also access the Browse Deploymentu2026
So now i cannot log off from the portal (except by restart computer)
In development system where I used the same procedure, everything is OK.
    Please help!

    Dev,
Please ensure that the changes are correct by to upload the orignial par.
The other way of modifying the par is as below,
*Upload the PAR into NWDS and add the jars htmlb.jar, com.sap.portal.htmlb_api.jar and servlet.jar through java build path of your par project and add the jar com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead_core.jar (you can get this by extracting your par and navigate to the folder PORTAL-INF -> lib) in PORTAL-INF -> lib folder of your project.
    Make changes
    Build project
    Export into portal
