Choice for best QT playback

Hi, I'm setting up an av event and will be creating an animation for a specific Panasonic projector capable of projecting 1366 x 768.
The file is being created by an animator working with After Effects on a PC but I am Mac based.
We are trying to find the minimum Mac required to play this file size at the least compression preferably pixel for pixel as a QTime with the least or no compression. It will be playing off the hard drive direct in quick time pro as a loop, so two questions.
1. What is the most compatible best looking and least processor hungry codec to use when we render the file?
2. Do I need to buy a new computer for the event? I currently have a 2.1 Power PC G5 imac, is this capable of doing what I need reliably or will I need to invest in a new box?
In which case is it the new quad Xeon or would the G5 dual imac be capable of playing this back?
This is a proffessional event and I am not getting a clear answer from my local supplier. The file needs to run uninterupted and completely glich free for 8 hrs a night, the animation is a promotion for Elle Mac Phersons Intimate range. so I want the best possible detail...understandably!
Help would be most welcome.

Martin, I Exported my rip using MPEGstreamclip DV/DVCPRO-NTSC full quality, then exported QT Movie out of FC after editing a bit. Put it back to DVD using DVDSP and used Compressor due to tutorials I watched from Larry Jordon, saying I would get a better quality compression using compressor. I know you are probably scratching your head at this point saying, wait, FCE doesn't come with Compressor or DVDSP. At this time I'll have to admit, I have FCstudio but started out with Express and like the FCE forum better then the FC forum.
The setting in compressor I used are:
Name: MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass
Description: Fits up to 90 minutes of video with Dolby Digital audio at 192 Kbps or 60 minutes with AIFF audio on a DVD-5

  • What is the best Compressor setting for best quality video playback on an iBook g4?

    I know the iBook and G4's in general are very outdated today, but I need to ask anyways. I have some video projects in 720p and 1080p in which I have down converted to 480p and also exported to MPEG-2 for DVD (personal wedding videos and videos made for my clients using Final Cut Studio). Anything encoded at most resolutions using h264 won't play on my iBook. Even 480p.
    I have about 20 hours of mixed video content that I need it in a format that is suitable for an iPhone 4 and an iBook 12" with a 1.2GHz G4, 1.25GB RAM and I added a 250 WD 5400 IDE hard disk (running 10.5.8 and 10.4.11 for Classic Mode). I know the iBook doesn't seem like the best tool for modern video playback, but I need to figure out which setting will play best with iPhone 4 and iBook so I don't need to make 2 local copies of each video for each device.
    The iBook plays best with the original DVD output MPEG-2 file and playing back in QT Pro or VLC... but I already have 180 GB's of MPEG-2 files now and my little HD is almost full. I don't have enough room to convert all the iPhone 4 counterparts. If I use Compressor 3.5.3, what is the optimal setting for iBook and iPhone .m4v or .mp4 files that can play on both devices? So far 720x400-480 widescreen videos @ 29fps works great on my iPhone, Apple TV 2, and other computers but seems to murder my poor iBook if encoded with high profile (and still choppy on simple profiles). 640x480 (adding black matte bars to my videos) plays fine in MPEG-2 but drops frames or goes to black screen if I convert it to mp4 (and looks bad on the iPhone 4 because of the matte). But if I convert on any of the simple profiles, it looks terrible on my iPhone 4 and a blocky on the iBook.
    This is the problem leading me to having 2 copies of each video and eating my hard disk space. What is the best video setting for both playback on the iBook and iPhone 4? Can the iBook playback H264 at all in decent resolutionsat all? I don't really want to have a 480p .m4v collection for the iPhone 4 and a MPEG-2 RAW collection just to play the same videos on the iBook.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
    Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
    So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
    If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
    All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • What is the best Mac choice for creating pro-level art/graphics/animation?

    I'm an artist who does a lot of work with Adobe Creative Suite CS5, as well as some video editing and lots of animation. I've been using a 2007 model 15-inch Macbook Pro for the last 4 years, and it seems like it's time to upgrade...it runs burning hot all the time, and the battery dies pretty quick when the cord falls out. It seems like the whole thing is running a little slow, which is probably because I have a TON of graphics/animation/video software on there, but I need each and every program.
    My question is, what is the best new Mac to purchase to replace this one? I want to make sure it lasts as long as possible, and will be able to handle the programs I use now. My first thought is to get another Macbook Pro, because of the portability, and just add on all the higher RAM, etc to customize it. But my husband suggested looking into the Mac Mini, because it's a lot cheaper, and we're a little strapped for cash at the moment. Would that serve the purpose? Or is a Macbook Pro really the best choice for what I need it to do?
    I'd love to hear suggestions from other artists or graphics people. What do you recommend?

    For a "cash strapped" person, unless you already
    have a monitor, one of the new iMacs may be
    a better choice.  If you do have a monitor, I would
    suggest the dual core i7 equipt MacMini.  Since you state
    you are using CS5 stuff, most Adobe apps,
    Photoshop for example, do not make effective
    use of multiple cores.  Also, using any of the
    Adobe products, regardless of which computer
    you decide on, get as much RAM as you can afford.

  • Best choice for a date column in forms

    Hello,
    I want to know what is the best choice for a date field that the user have to enter manually. I read on a other post that a calender control is not directly implemented in forms 9i. So what is the best choice to be "user friendly" with a date field in a form?
    thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Don't know if this would be much use to you, but I wrote this function 'Check_Date' a while back to check whether the user had typed something which could be interpreted as a date. You'd make your date field into a Text Item, and include a call to this function (which could be in your form, or in a library) in the WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger on the item, ie:
    IF NOT check_date(:ITEMS.date_item1, NULL, NULL) THEN
        RAISE FORM_TRIGGER_FAILURE;
    END IF;This would mean that the user could type 'T' or '*' for today, '+1' for tomorrow, '-7' for one week ago, or the date in a variety of formats. When they leave the field, the function tries to resolve what they've typed into a date, and sets the field to a date in the correct format.
    ('Display_Alert' is just a function to display a named alert with a message.) It can also be used to check that the date entered doesn't fall outside upper and lower bounds. Code follows:
    FUNCTION Check_Date (text_in        IN OUT VARCHAR2,
                         lower_bound_in IN DATE,
                         upper_bound_in IN DATE)
    RETURN BOOLEAN IS
    first_letter      VARCHAR2(1)  := SUBSTR(text_in, 1, 1);
    date_ok           BOOLEAN;
    this_date         DATE;
    date_diff         NUMBER(8);
    output_format     VARCHAR2(12) := Get_Application_Property(BUILTIN_DATE_FORMAT);
    TYPE date_format_table_type IS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(12)
    INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
    date_format_table    date_format_table_type;
    BEGIN
        --Set up table of date formats in order they'll be tested for

        date_format_table(5)  := 'YYYY-MM-DD';
        date_format_table(6)  := 'YYYY-MON-DD';
        --Use of T, or * for today's date...

                       this_date := TO_DATE(text_in, date_format_table(ix));

                           date_ok := FALSE;

  • Which of these 2 laptops would be my best choice for editing video?

    I am going to get a new laptop mainly to use for LR and PS but I also want to be able to edit video.  Which of these 2 laptops is my best option...
    ASUS ROG G751JT-CH71
    Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.5 GHz
    16 GB DDR3
    1000 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
    17.3-Inch Screen, Nvidia GTX970M 3GB GDDR5
    Windows 8.1
    Or
    Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition VN7-791G-730V
    Intel Core i7-4720HQ Processor (2.6 GHz)
    16 GB DDR3 RAM
    1 TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive, 256 GB Solid-State Drive
    17.3-Inch Screen, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M
    Windows 8.1, 4-hour battery life
    Additionally, if you feel there is a better choice for $1500 or less, I would love to hear that advice as well.  I would really appreciate your help in making this decision.  Thanks!

    Of the 2 the Asus everyday. You won't notice the difference in the CPU's but you will more so with the GPU's as the 970 is a decent step up from the 860m. Add in extra SSD/HDD and RAM (I believe it goes up to 32GB but check), and see if they have allocated the 16GB as 2x8GB sticks or 4x4GB sticks.
    Other option I would suggest looking at a custom PC builder such as Cyberpower, Xotic or other (no affiliations, heck I don't even live in the same country). You will be able to get a much more tailored system with a better upgrade path within your budget. You will get better CPU, better GPU, RAM options up to 32GB and more flexible drive and msata combinations and most importantly some flexibility with the way the system is configured. Some are re-brands of popular gaming laptops, some are from the more custom line of chassis and some are just tweaked versions of your off the shelf names. Plus you don't have to crack the thing open to replace drives etc. that you are paying for but won't use due to slow speeds and the warranty implications that can come from doing this
    Not saying buy this as you need to shop around and find what suits you best but as an example this is from Xotic.

  • Best choice for a proxy server on NT?

    Hi, I'm wondering what the best choice for a proxy server is on NT?
              Currently I'm running a 2 WL server cluster, but this will grow rapidly. If
              all of the pages that I will be handling will be .jsp (with the exception of
              1 or 2 servlets), which is the best configuration (performance wise) to go
              with?
              Should I use a Weblogic Servlet, NSAPI, or ISAPI to do the proxiing. My
              guess was that IIS would perform the best on an NT machine and that it would
              not be as large as a memory hog as Weblogic would be to simply run as a
              proxy. Is there a significant amount of latency produced by the ISAPI
              bridge?
              Any suggestions?
              Thanks,
              Chris

  • Best Data rate and format for Big Screen Playback

    I am a video producer supplying content for a tradeshow display consisting of 18 flat screens oriented vertically, 8 over 8. Very heavy duty Windows playback machine, with 3 graphics cards, 1 for each set of 6 monitors. The total pixel size is 3240x 1280 px. We have produced a number of full screen and smaller movies that the interactive programmer is trying to intergrate into a Flash program where some videos will play full screen, and others in smaller windows (those were produced in 1920x1080). All videos were mastered at the specified pixel count, square pixels, progressive, and output in Pro Res 422, 44.1K audio. Flash is being used to create the interface, and I am transcoding to .F4V at lower bit rates like 4, 6, and 9 Mbps. They are having trouble playing these movies back smoothly. We have done similar projects in the past with Director without issue. Of course they are blaming the video, I am offering to encode in any format at any data rate they suggest. Can anyone suggest a direction here?

    Are you trying to burn a standard DVD or are you trying to put a QuickTime .mov file on DVD media?
    A standard DVD doesn't worry about file size (only the duration).
    A "data" DVD is limited to the type of media used. A single layer DVD is about 3.7 GB's.
    In order to make a data DVD you need to keep the data rate low enough to not exceed the DVD media playback abilities. They can't handle the higher rates found in many of the preset options.
    You can avoid all of these headaches by telling the viewer to "copy" the .mov file from the DVD to their Desktop. Then nearly any of the presets option will work.
    H.264 is a great video codec and the "automatic" preset should work just fine. Use "multi-pass" for best quality (takes a very long time). Remove the check mark for "Audio" since your file has none. Leave it checked and you waste file size because a silent audio track would be added.

  • Best Azure Data Center choice for serving content in Canada?

    Hello,
    Curious - What is the best Data Center choice for a CDN if your primary audience is in Canada?  (or does it even matter?)
    I've asked Azure support if a data center will be opening up in Canada, and it appears that there are no plans for such.  So, if we are serving [primarily images] via Azure Storage (CDN) -- what is the best choice for a data center; as all traffic will
    be heading North (to Canada)?
    Also -- does anyone know of a SIMPLE price comparison chart that shows the cost of all the major CDNs, i.e.: Azure, S3, Google, etc. with regard to storage costs and bandwidth costs?  (Might be an interesting project to build)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    As of now, there is no plan to open a Data center in Canada. However, depending on the location you are in Canada, you may choose East US2/EastUS or West US or North Central US DataCenter which ever is near by to you.
    You may check the price of your services hosted in Azure through following link:

    What I don't want to happen is once I delete my itunes library from my old Macbook that the iMac itunes library to delete itself because I am using Homesharing.  Does homesharing sync and make that happen?

    After confirming that all your stuff is on the drive, delete the photos you have copied. You will need to empty the iPhototrash to free up the space.

  • JSF - Tomcat security...what is the best choice for a high activity site

    JSF - Tomcat security...what is the best choice for a high activity site
    The JDBCRealm is not multithreaded so what are options for high activity site??
    I would like to have Apache as front end doing load balancing, Tomcat as server and JSF.
    All ideals and suggestions please.
    Thanks
    Phil

    One more question.
    Since Tomcat has this setup.
    create table users (
    user_name varchar(15) not null primary key,
    user_pass varchar(15) not null
    create table user_roles (
    user_name varchar(15) not null,
    role_name varchar(15) not null,
    primary key (user_name, role_name)
    It seems like a huge pain to keep a user with every role. What happens when you have 500,000 users???
    Also, the authentications on every page....would it be easier to login once and setup a session bean check that on with the page header ??
    Thanks
    Phil

  • What is the best choice for our project? Thanks

    We are a startup company and developing a webiste with two mobile app.
    We use PHP in the server side and write with a private framework.
    We don't want to use any host-specific APIs so that we can move to other cloud server easily.
    In our case, can we use Website option in Azure?
    If the answer is yes. What is the best choice for us, VM or website? We need scalability in the future.
    Thanks!

    hi,
    It depends on your requirement. Base on my experience, VM or website all could meet your requirement. From your description, You could use azure website to host your php website (http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/documentation/articles/web-sites-php-configure/).
    And you could use website auto scale feature in the future. I suggest you could see their comparison (http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/documentation/articles/choose-web-site-cloud-service-vm/
    Hope it helps.

  • The best choice for the 2nd exam

    Hi friends,
    I'm going to obtain a certification as Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate and I need to know, for the second exam, what is the best choice for a newbie:
    Program with PL/SQL 1Z0-147
    OR
    Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL 1Z0-144
    Thank you,
    Ion

    Hello All,
    Next week am going for 1z0-144. Is anybody out there who has already cleared this exams and can help me about the kind of questions asked in it (like more practical or conceptual). Also about any special kind of book he studied apart from steven 4th edition.
    Thanks for your help.
    DG.... Well after seeing other replies .... I think you need a bit of encourgement ... so good luck.
    I have not actually taken this even.
    You MAY glean a little from the JG videos .... (but be aware many will ay it tells them nothing) .... [http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009/08/0096.html]
    What follows is a little of what you may expect ...
    The questions are obviously multiple choice .... at OCA level most will probably indicate the number of correct answers required (as opposed to select all correct answers ... expect to see more of those at OCP/OCE). A few may be drag and drop or something similarly fancy. Some will offer exhibits to be viewed. However there should be enough time for the reasonably able candidate to complete the exam hilst reading questions carefully if they do not daydream.
    Most production exams have a set of 10 sample questions (IMHO often not of the highest quality and I am inclined to refer to them as the beta (program) rejects .... questions that didnt make it from the beta exam to the production exam .... and I don't really a justification for that). No such luck with 1z0-144 as far as I can se though.
    This is a modern exam; and the questions will probably tend to reflect that. The questions will be most like 1z0-051 questions than 1z0-007 questions.
    Therefore the sample questions from 1z0-051 may give a simple insight into the variation of question types o expect [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=303&p_certName=SQ1Z0_051]. (Be aware this is a very small ... and possilby skewed ... sample).
    This is probably not what you are looking for .... but is about as far as I can go.
    Anyone who has taken the exam is bound by non-disclosure agreements and there is very little anyone can sensibly say without possilby getting themselves into trouble.

  • Digital Video Interfaces??  Is AJA the best choice for the money??

    I am using FCP HD, and have always worked with Mini DV. But we just purchased a Sony PVW-2600 Beta deck, and I believe that I'm needing to purchase some kind of interface.
    Is AJA the only or best choice for me? Can you give me some suggestions?
    Thanks so much!
    Bryce

    It's not the only choice, as Blackmagic/Decklink make good cards too, as do Aurora. But whether it's the best choice is another matter. There's lots of different decisions to make - HD compatibility? Effects acceleration? Monitoring outputs? Rack mountability?
    Others will respond.
