This week I try to install on blade 1500, debian on the first disk and the second disk OSOL
and the osol primary disk with debian secondary disk.
I keep the solution first disk OSOL second disk debian
I'm not on that silo installed on the second boot disk!
I made a ssh from a OSOL X86 on the blade 1500 OSOL svn_131.
here are the results:

I have successfully used the older accelleraid 150 with
solaris X86 .
A PC SCSI controller that have a boot disk must have
an active BIOS .
Have you enabled the Bios on the Card ?

I have pressed "C" during boot to force it to boot from the Optical Drive. It boots normally.
I have pressed "option" to get the boot menu. The only option available is my hard disk drive.
I have pressed "option""command""shift""delete" at the same time during boot to force it to skip booting the hard disk. I get a blinking smily face/question mark for a while, then it shows the boot menu, at which point the only available option is my hard disk drive.
In system preferences in OS X I have looked to change the boot drive, but the only option, again, is the hard disk.
Can I not boot from the Optical Drive?

Nearly all open-source software is available to download from the Ubuntu repositories, but the amount of proprietary software available for PowerPC linux is limited. You will have the same version of Firefox, LibreOffice, etc as other architectures.
Notable absentees are: Chrome/Chromium, Adobe Flash (although open-source alternatives are available, see below), Wine (however Qemu can be used, see below), ndiswrapper, proprietary video drivers and Dropbox (but, you can use Ubuntu One).
I do recall it being very limited when it came do downloading Linux software that supported PPC.
You wouldn't be any better off than using firefox or safari on Mac OS X 10.4.11.

If your computer shipped with Snow Leopard, that means it shipped with two disks: an Install disk that contains the OS, and an applications disk that contains the iLife suite. You would use the applications disk to reinstall iLife.

Simplest way to protect the boot disk

I have a solaris T2000 machine.
It has two internal disks - and it boots off one of these. The disks are not in an hardware or software RAID configuration. There is nothing on the second disk that I cannot move. Please don't ask why this wasn't setup from the start - I had no control over it.
So, what is the simplest way of getting around this single point of failure with the minimum of disruption to the service the box provides?
1) To implement hardware RAID using raidctl would require a re-install of the OS - I do not want to have to do this
2) Is it possible to create a new disk from the SAN, copy the boot areas etc and make then make the machine boot from the SAN?
3) Use solaris volume manager to implement some kind of software RAID on the second disk?
4) The boot disk is currently an ufs file system - could we convert this to zfs and then implement zpool mirroring without the need for a reinstall?

In my opinion, the simplest is option 3. Here's some instructions on how to accomplish:

However, if I were in your position, I would do option 4. Use liveupgrade to convert to zfs and use zpool mirroring.

How can I partition, clone the boot disk, no cd?

How am I going to partition my boot disk? I only have the OS that came on the hard drive, no cd.
Tried start up c key on tiger 10.4 but it did not start from that cd where I thought perhaps I could administer this partitioning.
And further, how can I clone once done, no cd.

Let me see if I have this straight:
You want to partition your boot disk. That's it right?
All you need to do is clone your boot drive to another partition, disk, external, etc. You can use either superduper! (recommended), carbon copy cloner, or even just use osx disk utility.

Once you clone your boot drive, make sure it boots up first. Then if everything is good, re-partition the boot disk (erase) into however many partitions you need in Disk utility.
Then boot up from your clone you just made, open for example superduper, and clone back to your new partitioned drive. Bootup from the new partition drive, and you are set.
You don't need the CD to partition or even clone using DU.

If the Mac came w/system DVDs, you will need to obtain them prior to selling.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

Can anyone suggest me the best solution among the available to copy the boot disk to another disk periodically in SPARC Solaris 10 OS Environment?

I don't believe so - if you want a 'quick and dirty' method you could use dd to copy slice 2 (by default that represents thw whole disk) to another location but if your disk size is quite large that could take some time. Be warned that would also take the VTOC with it so the target disk should be the same type (at least the same size, or more) as the source or you may end up with issues if you send it to slice 2 of the target.

Where can I get the Boot Disk for my macbook pro? Downloading OSX Lion is taking too long

I got a macbook pro that was owned by someone for a few days before. I tried to restore to factory setting but now downloading OSX Lion is taking forever with my internet connection. Can anyone help me find a boot Disk to speed up the process?

Apple no longer sells a Lion installation USB flash drive (they did at one time). SO you'll just have to wait for the download to complete. It's best to 'hard-wire' the download - not over wifi but with an Ethernet cable connected directly to your router. That will gain you some speed.
You could also try taking your MBP to a friend's home where they may have a faster Internet service. My download speed is 22+Mbps with my cable company - you may have a friend or neighbor who has something similar? Of course, you are always at the mercy of Apple's servers - sometimes they're just overloaded and a download that should take 20 minutes can take up to an hour and one-half.

Boot camp assistant ignores legit disks if the boot disk has a raid slice

I don't know if this is the right place to post... sorry if not.
Here's my setup:
disk0
Mac OSX HD
OS Share
Mirror (RAID slice)
disk1
Mac Fast
Windows Fast
Mirror (RAID slice)
disk2
Time Machine (one big Journaled HFS+ partition, that's it)
I wanted to use the assistant to make a new BOOTCAMP partition on disk2, but it never let me get past the opening screen because the startup disk had been partitioned outside of the assistant (true, it was) and was not a single Journaled HFS+ partition (also true). But disk2 is perfectly ripe for the, uh, boot camping.
I got rid of the RAID completely, and the assistant was happy to let me create the BOOTCAMP partition on disk2. After I got that working, I went back and re-created the RAID on disks 0 and 1. Everything works perfectly now.
Was I doing something wrong, or is this just a (subtle) bug in the Boot Camp Assistant?

Just installing OS updates and programs will
Write the installer
Uncompress the file at say 7x and write the actual installer in a free area that often may be anywhere but at the far end of the partition is common.
Write new version or copy of the files being changed/updated (myfile.new and myfile.old)
Delete the entry in the directory for the temp files and versions.
A program that can show your hard drive and where files are and where free space is, and show fragments.
OS X tries to eliminate small files with fragments when they are rewritten and when it can find contiguous free space to write the new file.
That can actually work against you, as it might fragment the free space also.
When a drive gets down to 20% free space there is a performance hit, you are using slower areas of the drive (inner tracks are usually 50% slower) and having more trouble finding filles and where to write files.
Clone Mac OS is one of the easiest and safest methods.
Click on source (Mac Harddrive), click on or drop the backup partition / drive into target icon.
Click "Run"
you end up with bootable (test it to be certain) exact copy.
Unplujg and keep it on a shelf
Update it before you inistall a new version etc of OS X or make changes.
Have two: one safe on the shelf from Week #1 and new Week #2
Disk Utility can do that.
With huge hard drives free space should not be an issue. The lack of a feature to defrag as part of Boot Camp or Disk Utility is why there are iDefrag and others, but they are slow and best run from.... a 2nd hard drive running OS X rather than from CD. and never great idea to do w/o backups or on live system.

Who Shoud Be The Owner Of The Boot Disk?

My system has several drives with several partitions. I noticed, via Get Info, on the boot driver that the owner is set to "system". Is that correct? Shouldn't be set to my user account?
I'm asking this question because I just installed Adobe Photoshop CS3 and it won't launch. It says "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
I've searched several sites on this issue and one recomended fix is to ignore permisions on the scratch drive. I made that change to all but the boot drive, which I believe you cannot do.
However, I'm wondering if having the Owner of the boot drive as "system" might be causing this issue.
Should I change Owner to my account?
Or is system to correct owner?

Since I've never been able to launch CS3, I'm not sure which drive it's trying to use as the scratch disk.
That being the case, then that's not the problem. By default, PS uses the boot drive as the only scratch disk. Though according to Adobe's forums, ownership issues are the only thing that causes this error.
Here's a few things people there have done to fix the problem. Try them in this order.
1) Repair Permissions on your startup drive.
2) Delete Photoshop's preferences. In the Preferences folder of your user account, delete the entire folder, "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings".
3) Download and apply the 10.4.11 Combo updater. Repair permissions both before applying the update and after. Delete Photoshop's preferences before trying to launch it.

How can I reinstall crashed iCal without the Boot Disks?

I crashed iCal the other day by adding too much text into the event details field. How do I fix the program, or how do I re-install a fresh version of it? I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.3
I also don't have any boot disks for the operating system (which is what the internet suggested using to re-install iCal off of).
Here is the error message I got:

The text reaches past the screen, and I can't move the window to see what it says at the bottom.

This doesn't sound like an error with the iCal application but with the data you have in it.
Lion (10.7) does not come on a disk. It is available via download (if you purchased it in the Mac App Store or if your computer came with Lion preinstalled) or as a USB thumbdrive you buy from Apple.
For this issue I would suggest:
Quit iCal
Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard. You will see "Library" in the menu. Click on it.
Click once on the folder called "Calendars" to highlight it.
Go to File > Duplicate (this makes a backup as you can't use iCal currently).
Once the duplication is complete, remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard. You will see "Library" in the menu.
Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists:
1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.

Partition the boot disk...

Ok I have a little test (vmware) with 20Gb assigned to it.
It sees this as one disk.
I've installed solaris 10, creating a partion of 10Gb.
The remaining 10Gb, I wanted to create a couple of slices of 5Gb - but when I go into format utility --> select disk --> partition --> modify I get the message:
"Cannot modify disk partitions while it has mounted partitions"
Can I get round this? There didn't seem to be a way of creating the other partitions when I installed the OS.
It is only a test box but my aim is the root area, and two further partitions which I mess around with and practise software mirroring.

Please show your disk partition output here. You might have created partition other than root in the disk during installation.

I'm having a problem with my PC and I do not know what to do please help?

The SMART test usually means the hard drive is about to fail. It would be wise to replace the drive and clone the old drive to the new ASAP. If the drive fails, all will lost. It would be very benifcial for you to make the Recvoery DVD set now if you have not done so. Instruction here: Windows 7 Recovery instructions or Windows 8 Recovery instructions

Error: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed!(pavilion 20-b014 . The machine came originally with windows 8. I upgraded to windows 8.1 and put new hard disk. So the hard disk is fine.
However if I turn the machine off for a day and start the next day I get the "Error: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed".
I made the hard disk the first to boot the machine will boot and works. Is there a way to upadate the BIOS on
HP pavilion 20-b014? my bios version is 12/4/2012 v.8.09.
I do not understand why the intermittment above error showing on and off.

I understand that your desktop computer is giving you an error message stating that the boot disk could not be detected, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure that your hard drive you computer is trying to boot from is in working order, I recommend following the steps in this document on Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8). This should help determine if there is a fault with the hard drive.
If the hard drive passes all of the required tests, I recommend returning the BIOS back to its default settings by following this document on Recovering the BIOS.
