Choose not to include a song in 'shuffle' function

I used to be able to select particular songs which would not get included in random shuffle. I could play all the music on my ipod randomly but avoid playing non-music items on my ipod like audiobooks, iTrip station settings, etc.
Can the latest version of iTunes do this? I can't seem to figure it out?
P.S. I have an ipod mini, but I think that's irrelevant.

ok, I have an iPod video, but this also might work with yours, I'm not too sure
Just select the song you don't want played during the shuffle, right click on it and go to "Get Info" from there go to options, and you should see a box next to where it says "skip while shuffleing", and check the box
that's what I have to do for mine anyways

  • How can i set songs within a playlist, or an entire playlist, so that they are not included when using the shuffle function on IPOD Classic? Is this possible?

How can i set songs within a playlist, or an entire playlist, so that they are not included when using the shuffle function on IPOD Classic?
    Is this possible?

You can set any song to Skip when shuffling.
In your iTunes Library, highlight the song and right-click/Get Info. On the Options tab is the Skip when shuffling box. Select that and then Sync the iPod with your Library.

  • How to include unticked songs in shuffle?

When I untick songs in my iTunes library, they are not included in shuffle anymore.
I have for example a playlist with nothing but unticked songs. But when I start the shuffle function in that playlist, only one songs plays, and then the shuffle stops.
How can I make sure unticked songs still play when shuffle is active?

You can't. Unticked songs are ignored during normal track-to-track playback. Unticking is best used to mark tracks that you want to ignore most of the time, and don't want to put on your devices. E.g. a bonus interview track at the end of an album. You should manage the content of your device by means of one or more playlists which contain what you want for the device, rather than by unticking large sections of your library...

  • Doesn't seem to be including all songs in shuffle. Repeats same songs

When in shuffle mode, doesn't seem to include all songs in the shuffle.  It repeats the same songs.

Well, seems to me that if the computer is reading other CDs, the lens should not be a problem? If you really think it would help though, I suppose I'll try it.
Since I posted I've tried leveling the computer because I thought that might be an issue, but I think I can rule that out.
Could it be that I need to download some sort of driver update? I don't know when I purchased those Memorex CD-Rs that I'd been using and that worked, but the ones I just bought look a little different, so maybe they are also more advanced in some way?
Maybe 3 or 4 discs that I put in (out of maybe 50) actually did show up on the desktop and when I tried to burn them, started burning as normal. But then about 20 seconds into it, it said something about it not being able to burn.
I have also run Disk First Aid, which told me that there is an invalid PEOF. Could this be creating the problem?
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light...

  • Problem with shuffle function

My ipod Touch seems to be permanently in shuffle mode when playing songs.  How can I change this so that songs play in the correct order?
Please note, this is not related to the "shake to shuffle" function - I know how that works.

Just seen how to fix it in the "more like this" section.  Glad it's sorted as it was doing my head in.

  • Shuffle Function won't work

I plugged my iPod mini into another computer, this loaded all the songs on their iTunes on to my iPod. After reloading all my songs my shuffle function won't work and all songs play in order. I have reset my iPod but this has not worked. Any ideas?

  • Play ends when song ends - Shuffle and Continuous Play not working

I'm pretty sure I did not install an update prior to this starting. Since the problem began, however, I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled to see if that would solve the problem and it did not.
I typically play songs, on shuffle, from my main library. When I open iTunes shuffle is automatically selected and I click on the play button to choose a random song. Since this past thursday when I click the play button nothing happens. I have to manually choose a song to play. Once the song has ended iTunes does not choose another song (if on shuffle) nor does it play the proceeding song on the list (if on normal play). In order to play another song I have to choose another. Once that song ends I have to select another and so on.
I have checked the settings and I don't see anything that could be effecting the way iTunes plays the songs.

    *Figured it out*
Somehow, all of my songs where not checked....

  • Does shuffle include icloud songs?

Here is my issue; I have too many songs for my phone to store completely. I just signed up for iTunes Match and set up to store in the iCloud. When I plug my phone up to my computer, the "On This Phone" section shows that I have roughly 1050 songs on my phone. Each day when i have listened to music all day, I prefer to remove those songs from my phone and add new ones to keep around 1000 songs available on the phone. However, when I do try and remove some of the songs that I've heard that day from the phone, they are already showing the little iCloud emblem which I took to mean that the song was not downloaded "On This Phone". So, are the songs with the download cloud included when I shuffle songs on my phone?
To be honest, it has been much more difficult to keep track of the songs that are "On This Phone" now that I use the cloud and match. It was much easier just to update and sync a playlist every day. I kind of hate to go back to that since I've just paid $25 for iMatch.
    I would love any ideas.
    Thanks,

To restrict your song list to just songs that have been downloaded to your phone, go to Settings>Music and turn off Show All Music.  Then look in the Music app to see which songs are stored on your device.  Shuffle will now only include these songs.  Turn Show All Music back on when you want to download more songs to your device.

  • All songs not backed up including purchased songs

I backed up my library from a windows PC to an external drive and then restored from that backup to my MacBook. All the songs did not come through, I am not missing about 900 songs from the backup. How do I fix this?

No idea why your backup failed. No way to tell unless the logs of that backup process are still around.
As for your purchased music from iTunes. Their policy has always been that you are responsible for making secure backups of your own music. You can try and call their customer service line and see if they will make an exception, but odds are that you'll have to re-purchase those songs, or live without them.

  • IPod shuffle does not play all the songs on it

I have removed all songs and restored the device. Added songs again and it still does not play all the songs it says it has one it. I am well under the limit for the device. Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings, The delete all is only applicable for 4G and later
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Excluding songs from shuffle, but including in playlists

Is is possible to exclue a song from shuffle mode, yet have it still play in a playlist?
I believe this used to be possible, but I'm unable to do so recently.
Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

Jeff, thank you for your reply. I am aware of how to skip songs while shuffling. Let me try to explain my issue another way.
I have assorted Beethoven, Mozart, other classical music on my ipod. About 50 songs or so. I have deselected them from playing in shuffle mode.
However, I have put them in a separate playlist "classical music" so if the mood should strike, I can listen to them. When I select the "classical music" playlist, it only shows the first song in the list, and now playing 1 of 1, then abuptly stops, even though there are 50 songs in that playlist.
I imagine it is doing this because I have taken them out of shuffle?

  • How not to loose my songs

    Hello,
In the past I have had to rebuild my PC's or reload something and in each case when I reload the Itunes software and then plug my Shuffle into the PC it states: The Ipod "Clays Ipod" is synced with another Itunes library. Do you want to erase this Ipod and sync with this Itunes library.
What can I do in order not to erase the songs on this Ipod? There is almost a gig of files on this shuffle and I was pretty anal about the choices I made. Is there no other way to do this without blowing everything away?

Unfortunately, a Shuffle (by design) can only be synced to one library at a time. If you change things--it thinks its a different library.
If I were you, I would print a list of the songs on my shuffle. Because of the 1 gb size limitation--(at MOST) a shuffle can contain 250 songs. So this isn't going to be a multiple-page list. (You'll print three pages of informaton, trust me.)
I think you can do this after you refuse the sync question that arises because it's a new library. Click on the device after it's plugged into your computer--view the contents (click on the "Contents" tab), then in the upper right corner, choose File>Print and then when this box opens choose Song Listing.
Now that you have a list of the songs on your Shuffle, you can create a Shuffle Playlist. (Pull all the songs listed on the shuffle playlist from your iTunes library onto this "reference" playlist.)
Now backup your entire library--playlists and all. To do this copy the iTunes music folder to another location--either separate hard drive, DVD(s) or multiple CDs. Once things are backed-up(and assuming nothing changes) you can simply drag the backup iTunes folder (or individual internal folders) back into iTunes if things get lost in the future. This will allow you to easily reload your shuffle!

Your sequence settings and clip settings are not matching. To make them match, right click on a clip and choose New Sequence from Clip and a new sequence will be created based on your clip settings.

  • Keeping songs on shuffle no longer in i-tunes library?

Hi - just bought ipod shuffle and have put cd's into i-tunes library then onto i-pod. Then I have been deleting cd's from i-tunes library as I don't need them there. Then have put another cd into i-tunes but when I transfer this one, others that I have removed from the library, are removed from the shuffle, any song still in the library stay on the shuffle. Is there any way of keeping songs not in the library, on the shuffle when adding new tunes?
