Choose the wrong partition format!

Hey guys i need help fast, i wasn't paying attention when installing the windows xp and i choose the "Leave the current file system intact" option and I am unable to boot up my imac. Its a black screen saying failing to boot from cd, press any key to reboot and it doesn't. I have ejected the cd and I been trying to hold down the option button to choose which to load up from but it doesn't work. I have an external hard drive that i been using for time machine, is there any way i can boot up from that disc and then have the hard drive in the imac reset to the mac os x partition? Need answers asap!

Hi everyone,
I am new to Mac and just got a new Macbook, so I decide I will install a Window Vista on it so I can have something as a backup if I can't get used to Mac OS. However, when I install the Window using bootcamp, I forgot with partition is the one with Mac OS on and I choose the one that say "74.9 GB[Bootcamp]" and install the window Vista.
The problem is, after the comouter was restart, it can only recognize Window Vista
Might want to sign on to MS and d'load the release candidate for Windows 7, it's open public beta and good until 3/2/2010 that's month/day/year. Very nice OS and should run great on your Mac.

When importing a CD, the "CD Lookup Results" dialogue box came up and I choose the wrong CD title.  Now iTunes is wanting to import a different song list than the one on my CD.  I've shut down my computer and opened iTunes from the hard drive Program Files and tried to import the CD again with the same problem.  How can I retrieve the "CD Looup Results" diaglogue box to choose the correct CD title to fit the song list on my original CD?

You might also be able to do it without importing the songs again I think. Just highlight the tracks, right click them and choose "Get Track Names". This feature only works on CDs that were imported via iTunes.

    Hi,
If you choose the incorrect settings for printing, yes - the print quality will be affected.
Different papers absorb the ink differently, so you can end up with prints that are too light, too dark, or have a colour cast if you make incorrect choices in your Aperture or printer settings.

  • WIndows chooses the wrong Access Point

Hi folks, hope you can help.
I've set up my home network as follows. My cable connection runs through the cable modem and into the WAN port of a wireless router with the wireless disabled, thus acting as a plain gig-e router. THis router also acts as DHCP. Two CAT 6 cables run off this.
One to the ground floor, one to the top floor. THe ground floor has an Asus RT-N66U running as Access Point (no router). THe top floor has an Asus RP-N14 access point extender thingy. Both "APs" have the same ID, same password, same authentication,
    etc.
My phones use this set-up as one would hope. When connecting, the phone grabs the stronger AP and uses that. If moving round the house, the phones (Android) will sometimes hang on to the originally connected signal, but will usually hop over in time or upon
disconnect/reconnect. My work laptop running Win7 also behaves nicely, and does the same
My Win 8.1 laptop is a PITA. It PERSISTS in choosing the top floor AP >50% of the time, regardless of signal strength and the speed it can negotiate. Right now it's persisting with a -80 db link to upstairs, despite being sat within touching distance
of the downstairs AP which is presenting -50 db. Resetting the upstairs AP (taking it offline) forces the 8.1 laptop to hop over but as soon as the upstairs AP comes online the laptop hops back to that AP.
I've tried turning up the aggressiveness of the connection in the hope that it will find the better connection faster (in case this was somehow the problem) but it just means it hops to the weak connection quicker.
Perhaps worth knowing is that after removing the wireless profile using netsh and reconnecting (with the results above of using the wrong AP) the network is named "networkname 2" when hovering over the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
No idea where it gets the number "2" from.
Help, please. At the moment I can either deny internet in half the house for my family or only work in the top half of my house with this laptop.... I'm off upstairs to post this.

    Hi,
This behavior depends on the driver of Network adapter.
I suggest you update the network adapter driver  from manufacturer's website to see what's going on.
If it doesn't work, I suggest you install an older version of this driver in Windows 8.1 compatibility mode to see if the issue was resolved.

  • ITunes asked me what cd I inserted - and I choose the wrong one.

I'm sure some of you before have inserted a CD only to have iTunes be unsure what it is, and ask you to select the correct album from a list that it thinks it might be.
I chose the wrong one - so the track names are incorrect. How do I get iTunes to 'forget' the CD again and allow me to choose a different album? Thanks.

    Hi.
Yes, I have encountered this but a long time ago...
Firstly try putting the CD back in then go Advanced>Get CD Track Names and see if the choice comes up again. If that doesn't work eject the CD, delete the tracks that are erroneously named confirming that you want them removed from the Library, reinsert the CD and choose the correct choice when iTunes accesses Gracenote.
    Or...
You could Get Info (⌘+I) on each track and amend manually
    Good luck,

  • I'm embarrassed to ask this: when I click to initiate a new email message in the "From" box it automatically chooses the wrong email address (I have three but use one mainly). How can I get the right choice to appear automatically?

I'm embarassed to ask this: when I click on the new mail icon to write a new email message, in the box "FROM" appears the wrong email address: I have three but mainly use one. How can I correct this so that the right email address appears in the "FROM" box?

I assume this is Apple Mail. Try this:
    Preferences > Accounts > your-first-account
Select Outgoing Mail Server of account/name you wish to use and check Use only this server
    Repeat for other accounts.

  • How to correct Lens Correction Profile choosing the wrong lens?

Using LR 3.5.1. When applying Lens Corrections/Profile/Enable in Default, my Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 actual lens is being corrected by the profile for a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 lens. I can tell it's the wrong correction because the barrel distortion after using the default profile is not corrected, and when I manually select the 4-5.6 lens the correction is perfect. So I know the right data is embedded in the LR correction data bank but is not being used.
I found that when I set the profile Setup selector to "Auto" the correct lens is selected and the correction it makes is "correct." But then moving to the next photo it switches to Default again, selecting the wrong lens, and so has to be set to Auto for each photo. This action doesn't seem to me to me an expected result called "Setup." I need this for my home interior photography, and with hundreds of photos a week I don't want to manually operate this. This didn't happen until v.3.4 or 3.5, I think.
So, how do I get it to select the right lens as the Default, or get the Auto setting to stick? Either would do. (Seems to me they logically are the same thing).
    ==========
In addition, why isn't it possible to have the profile itself enabled as a default perhaps in a preset - or is that possible and I don't know how to do it? In other words, once it's working right, why not make it an import preset for that lens?
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the quick reply, Ian - it works.
I wonder how many users have used the wrong corrections, and will
continue to do so not knowing it's an error. Now I wish the profile
Enable could be a default as well.

  • [Solved]Grub booting the wrong partition

Hello everyone and thank you for reading!
This is my first post on this forum (and my first step into arch) so appologies for any newbie symtoms (and bad language).
    My problem:
When I start my laptop (press the power button) my system go's into bios and then boots my HDD (that statement is a bit off I know). After that the system stops and grub rescue starts, saying something about a UUID not found (the UUID is nowhere to be found in my system but it could be one from my previous Ubuntu setup).
    My system:
An Acer Laptop with a Samsung SSD for OS(sda) and Seagate HDD for storage(sdb)
    a 3d gen i5
    glorious Nvidia optimus
some more stuff I think is not importend
    My attempted solutions:
    >Switch the boot-order and put my SSD on top.
My bios only lets me say "Boot from a disk (hdd and ssd)", "Boot from CD", "Network" ,etc.
    >Boot-repair
       Didn't work.
    >try setting this right in grub-rescue
Could work, but I get an error all the time saying "could not find "grub_real_boot_time"" when running "insmod normal".
    >wipe the entire HDD clean.
even with all the HDD partitions deleted, grub still pops up from out of nowhere.
    >remove the HDD
Yes this works the system boots in a blink of an eye.

  • Anyone else having troubles with10.5? all my music including my amazon play like its in the wrong digital format

Iv'e uninstalled, re installed, went back to the last version, tryed to re convert all my music in itunes thinking that might solve the problem and still no. I cant find a solution. my version of windows is 32 bit xp Updated to sp3. Yes I have the system requirments. And yes I know about the older version of itunes U have to remove a memoconfig( Dont remember exactly off the top of my head right now). But, yes ended that in my windows proccesses too! HELP!!!!

first thing I would look at is storage and free space as well as whether you thought about running chkdsk w/ repair, and then Paragon clone OS ($19 and does disk to disk so you have one step and bootable 2nd drive, good for testing too, and will tell you if it discovers errors).
New software has always always made greater demands on hardware, and iOS is one of the only reasons for now / for many, to get iTunes 10.5 outside of the norm security patches and stuff. And why I always keep a couple generations of installers on hand.
Apple leaves behind older installers and caches as well and you might want to if you have not go through this:
    Removing and reinstalling iTunes Windows
Over time even Windows can just get to the point after years of updates and patches that it is 'time to start over' if you haven't (SP3 came out in early to mid 2008, Windows 7 two yrs ago).
CCleaner 3.11 is handy and safe.
A number of 3rd party tools? less is more.

  • Which partition format to choose to make second internal drive read/write for Windows 7

    Hi,
I have a new Mac Mini Server 2011 and I would like to split partition my second internal hard drive to use in Bootcamp Windows 7.
I would like to split this drive so that I can have one partition in NTFS and other half in standard MAC OS format.
Ive gone to Disk utility to split partition this drive but I only see the Format MS Dos (FAT) and FatEX.. I dont see FAT32 ! Is this correct..
should I choose Ms DOs FAT so that when I got back to Bootcamp Windows I can reformat this partition into NTFS?
    Thanks community..
    loving the new Mac btw

    FAT is FAT32 is MSDOS
    exFAT is FATex
Disk Utility select second drive media
Hit the partition tap, select big box click 2 partitions,
select 1 partition format OS X extended, select the other partition format MSDOS click Apply.

Because you have a unusual setup, I don't know exactly how Bootcamp is going to handle it, you got to download the drivers and read the PDF.
However when you insert the Windows 7 DVD to install, you first need to change the MSDOS/FAT32 format to NTFS using the Windows disk, Disk Utility or Bootcamp won't do it.

If your MacBook Pro had Snow Leopard on it at one time then sure. (Early 2011 or earlier)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Obviously choose the second partition to install into. It has to be OS X Extended journaled formatted in Disk Utility (BootCamp software makes it a MSDOS/FAT32 formatted partition if you used that to partition with)
If it's a Early 2011 or Late 2011 that came with 10.7, it's possible, but it's not easy.

If you can't install Snow Leopard, there is a thread over at MacRumors how to run Snow Leopard in a virtual machine program under 10.7 or 10.8

Trying to install windows 7 and getting error message Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp Assistant creates a Windows partition in FAT32 to make the Windows XP installation easier.
The problem is that Windows Vista, 7 and 8 require a NTFS partition, so the Windows installer gives this error. The only thing you have to do is to choose the BOOTCAMP partition in the installer and go to “Drive options (advanced)” > Format. Finally, install it

  • SOLVED: HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Windows 7 Recovery Partition Failed, Windows Partition Formatted

Hello everyone. I just joined the community, so I apologize in advance if I am in the wrong place or if I do not supply all the needed information about my computer and problem in this first post.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Entertainment Notebook PC, which came with Windows 7 Home Edition, and an HP Recovery Partition. Today, I decided I wanted to start from scratch, as the system was getting pretty slow, and the User folders were becoming very unorganized. So I followed the instructions found at the HP website and used the program HP Recovery Manager. However, after the Recovery Partition formatted the Windows Partition, and had three minutes left to copy the files into the new partition, a message popped up declaring the recovery failed, and the computer had to be rebooted. So now I have a computer with no operating system on it at all, and the Recovery Partition continues to fail. I have used the Recovery Partition before, and this has never happened.
Has anyone encountered or know of a similar issue? Does anyone know a solution? Am I out of luck, or is there someway to ask HP for a copy of the installation media?
    Thank you in advance.
EDIT: Never mind. I found a forum post with my answer. Sorry to anyone who spent the time to read this post.
