Choose what the side switch does
I have ipad air and i can choose between making the side switch Mute the device or lock the rotation. I also have an iphone 4 and i would like to be able to do the same. can i do that? the software is the same or ios 7.1
My actual problem is that on my iphone both the home button and the power button are broken and i figgure out that on the ipad i can turn the screen on by using the side swich because it's on lock rotation. If I can change what the side switch dose on the iphone it would save my phone! haha!
So please anyone if you know anything, any suggestions are appreciateted
There's no side switch on iPhone, except volume and mute and you can't reconfigure the mute or volume switches to do anything other than their intended purpose. With one exception. You can use the volume switch as a shutter release to take pictures.

When you go to Settings > Sounds > Ringtones and tap on a ringtone, does it emit a sound then? If so, Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and make sure it is OFF.
Next steps would be to back up your iPhone, then go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
If the issue continues still, restore the iOS. Last step would be to take it in for service.

My iPad has just stopped working with sound from the speakers, it works fine with the headphones in. The soft mute button is not made and the volume is at max.
Any ideas what problem is and how to sort. ThanksSystem sounds can be muted from the software switch in the task bar as well as from the side switch depending on how you have it set up. This my boilerplate resonse for sound issues.
1. If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
2. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

3. If you still have no sound at all - except when using headphones ....try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol. -
My iPad Prefs are set for the side switch to Mute; but the speaker does not mute when the switch is moved down.
That setting only works for system sounds like push notifications (emails and the like), some game sounds, keyboard clicks and things like that. If you want to mute all sounds you still have to turn the volume all the way down with the volume switch.

HT4085 The side switch is locking the display.
The side switch is not displaying the speaker icon and does not do volume up or down. Holding it does do the power off. Worked as expected lazy night. I powered down. This morning I powered up and was watching a video, when to adjust the volume and the screen locked. Unlocked the screen with the pin and resumed whee I has in the video. Tried to adjust the volume and same behavior, locked the screen.
Other means of controlling the volume are working.My mistake.... All is working. I was not hitting the volume switch, But the sleep/wake button ! I must have still been half asleep !!

Can someone please help me, I think it's the hardware because when I quit the game the iPad wouldn't rotate to portrait. I tried restarting it but it doesn't, also tried turning it on and off and that didn't work either so I think it's a hardware defect
Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If there is, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. I'd like to be able to let my 3 year old watch videos on the iPad, but young kids want to touch the screen. I need a method to disable the touch screen. Seems simple, why isn't this an option?
Is there a way to write an app that allows the side switch to act as a "hold" switch?

What the IP address does the Web Server get?

We have a scenario like this:
Client>Proxy(like squid)........>Web Server( 6.1 SP7)>Application
We know that the Web Server will get the remote IP address, and set as proxy-ip in HTTP Header.
But, what the exact remote IP address does the Web Server get? The IP of the Proxy? or The IP of the original client?
If we want to get the original client IP in the Application, what do we need to do?

Our school is contemplating on using iPad's for education, but are concerned about some safety issues. As far as I'm aware I know iOS 7 allows a lot of native restrictions. However is there a way that I as a teacher can remotely see what a child is doing on their iPad and do this for multiple iPad's?

Unfortunately no. The closest thing I've found is an app linked to the MDM where teachers can view what app is active on each of their classroom iPads (i.e. they can't see the screen itself, but can see that Edmodo is the active app on one device, Notability is the active app on another device, etc)

So ever since I downloaded the new version of iTunes, I have no idea how to add music to my iPod. On the last version, their was a box next to the iTunes Store box that said "_______'s iPod". Because I just used to drag my music to the box and add it through there, I have no idea where I would "drag" my music file now to add it. Simply, I just need to know how to add music to my iPod again in the most recent version of iTunes on my computer (11.1.5).
Cntrl + S will enable the side bar.
Then you can manually manage media on your iDevice as you always have.
Alternatively, control the content on the device by syncing the playlists and other media that you desire to the device. -
I want to stop my mini ipad screen from rotating. I followed instructions for accessing the multitasking bar but when I swiped that nothing happend. I also tried the side button but that didnt work either Help?
