Choose your x86 poison: SLES 10, RHEL 5, or Solaris 10?

I've been mulling around the pros and cons of each OS and wondering if anyone has any figures, tests or feedback.
I am lumping Oracle's EL in with Red Hat here by the way.
Linux has the advantage in that it SEEMS to be Oracle's primary development platform at the moment, and so patches and version releases are most likely to be released first for Linux.
Solaris use to be Oracle's primary development platform, and Oracle has historically been very stable on the Solaris kernel. Patches were always build first for Solaris, and then ported to other platforms. Also, the Solaris kernel is very stable - more so than Red Hat EL in my experience - as is AIX.
Last year Larry Ellison said that Solaris 10 would be the primary platform for 64-bit development - though that may well have changed now.
I welcome others thoughts.

Choosing between SLES 10, RH 5 and Solaris 10 x86 will depend on what Oracle products you want to support. If you need to support Oracle Applications (e-Business Suite), none of the three are supported. Oracle Applications through the latest R12 are only supported on Oracle Linux 4, RH 3/4 and SLES 9. Check the certify tab on Metalink to see what Oracle products are supported on SLES 10, RH 5 and Solaris 10 x86 (and x86-64).
Some 64-bit products are released on linux 64-bit before any other platform (10gR3 Grid Control full install for example).
Solaris 64-bit Sparc is still a well supported platform, but you need special sysadmin skills or very good experience support the Sparc platform to do this at home, and cannot be done on commodity hardware.
For my own personal training with Oracle products, I prefer the Suse products because I like the Suse KDE setup and YaST is a nice and intuitive setup utility. On Red Hat and Oracle Linux, you pretty much need to know how to do everything on the command line, or implement something like webmin for system administration. If you try to install on Red Hat or Oracle Linux, and run into problems, you will mostly find articles on Metalink that indicate the most import thing is to know what you are doing. If you don't already know what you are doing, getting there can be pretty hard. On Suse, there are many good installation guides for most Oracle products on www.suse.com/oracle in the documentation link. The orarun package does a good job of setting up the OS with the appropriate kernel parameters for running Oracle software, so you can be up and running pretty quickly.
Finally, you choice should be influenced by what OS you support in your business. If you primarily support one OS in your profession, then you should gain familiarity on that platform. If you need to know how Oracle works on multiple OSs, then you should have multiple machines available, or one large one with several virtual machines.

DB migration from RHEL 5 to Solaris x86(64bit)

We would like to move our non-ASM 11.1 DB which is currently in Linux (RHEL 5) to Solaris 10 x86 (64bit).

1. I gather that I have to use RMAN's CONVERT DATABASE for this. Any Metalink note or URLs relevant to this migration ?

You can use transportable tablespace option to move database accross platforms.
First, you must check tablespace dependecies.
Check whether your tablespace can transfer or not?
SQL> exec dbms_tts.transport_set_check('TEST_TS',TRUE);
SQL> select * from transport_set_violations;
set status of tablespace which you want to move to Read-only.
SQL>alter tablespace test_ts read only;
Convert datafiles of tablespace
RMAN> convert tablespace test_ts to platform 'HP-UX (64-bit)' format='/tmp/test01.dbf';
Export tablespace metadata using data pump export
expdp talip/talip directory=dump_dir dumpfile=test_ts.dmp transport_tablespaces=test_ts
copy datafile of tablespace to another db.
Import metadata to another db.
impdp talip/talip directory=dump_dir dumpfile=test_ts.dmp transport_datafiles=/data1/testts01.dbf

Successfully installed Lync 2013 via Click-to-Run, but getting "Choose your product" prompt

After installing Lync 2013 client using method
Click-to-Run "Deploy Office 365 ProPlus from an on-premises location",downloaded Office source is on local hard drive with the
"config.xml" shown below.
I'm getting "Choose your Product" prompt after signing-in. We have Office 365 Enterprise E3 plan and we just wanted to upgrade Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 (not the Basic).

Looks like you‘ve tried a hybrid deployment with Lync 2010 and 2013, right? This might be the reason why Lync 2013 keep prompting to choose your product. Lync 2013 will automatically identify the products that it found for your account which you used to
login Lync 2013.
So, please try to remove any earlier version (Better to remove all Office 2010 suite) on your computer and try a fresh installation again. Let’s see the "Choose your product" prompt would appear again.

HT202279 Choose your server from the list that appears

I administer four Yosemites servers using OS X Server.
Everytime I launch OS X Server I have to option to Continue, which I do not choose. But I never get a list of other Macs to Adminsiter. I always have to choose "Other Mac" and enter the URL, etc. This happens on two Macs running Yosemite and being used for administrating.
Where is the list of other Macs? No matter how often I connect to them, they never show up and I can find nothing in the menus to add them.
According to How to administer OS X Server remotely using Server App - Apple Support it should be there:
The first time you open the Server app on your admin computer, do not click the Continue button in the "Welcome to Server" window. Instead, choose Connect to Server from the Manage menu.
Choose your server from the list that appears, or click "Other Mac" and then click Continue.

I should've noted that these are web servers in various locations. They would not show on Bonjour.
I'd still expect Server to remember and list them, and certainly the documentation doesn't indicate it's a LAN only feature.

Is firefox creating "Choose your favorite way to communicate" appearing in my Yhaoo mail display?

Sometimes when I try to display the list of e-mails in my Yahoo mail I get the message noted with three word/symbol responses;
Email, SMS or Instant Message instead of the email list. I can not get away from the message without leaving mail subsystem. Even if I select one of the responses offered, nothing happens. If I try to "save" the message, it shows it as a Firefox file? Yahoo doesn't seem to know anything about it but I did find a report of the same problem on Maxthon Forum with a snap of the screen image. I downloaded to jpeg and can forward it if you want to see a sample of the problem.

I had this same problem and finally figured out that somehow one of my children had tampered with my Yahoo mail while I was away from the computer. It's been a few months, but I fixed it in just a few seconds by clicking and dragging the preview screen (the one that's telling you "choose your favorite way to communicate") down and/or out of the way. Once I used the bar/line to drag that screen out of the way my inbox and emails appeared again!
To repeat, the problem had nothing to do with enabling or disabling the preview pane. It was simply that my inbox was being "covered up" by that other screen.

Cannot hide 'Choose your settings' field from User Profile Edit Page

When ever I change the 'Choose your settings' property to not be displayed on users' edit profile page, all of the users' My Site edit profile pages display an error, 'Sorry, something went wrong'. The log file shows the following entries.

I've encountered this on 3 different SharePoint 2013 farms, and it also works correctly on another. I can't figure out why or what the differences are.
We want to be able to hide the vast majority or fields from the user edit profile page and only show a handful of them, e.g. Name, Department, Job Title, Office and Mobile.
Anyone else seen this or have a solution?

You should really read the manual.

Restore. When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

Every time I open Firefox it tries to install the same updates (that I don't want) and the Firefox 3.6 "Choose Your Persona" etc. tab opens along with my home page tab. It takes a really long time to get onto Firefox because of these problems.

Well, this worked on my desktop! But my problem is on my laptop. :-) I'm running XP, but there was no "Username" under Documents and Settings under the C drive. I did a search for those file names and it wasn't there. I found Mozilla Firefox folder under: C\Documents and Settings\ All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Mozilla Firefox. There are 2 - 1 is Mozilla Firefox (shortcut) and the other is Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). I did a Mozilla Firefox search and this is all that showed up.
When I click on the shortcut link (the 1st one), it opens up 2 screens of Firefox. One is the "this is embarrassing" screen. The other is "Choose your Persona" screen. I closed it and reopened and it took me to my home page.

You're doing things very procedurally. Instead of having an arbitrarily deep nesting structure, instead why not split your logic into Locations. Each Location would have a description, list of adjacent locations, possible actions, etc. Then you can just keep track of the current location and write generic code to display the description, move from Location to Location, react to user input.

If a country is not listered. It means the itunes is not yet aviable in that country. ***. It was working 6 hours ago. Choose Your New Car - IF Then, Conditions, Weighted Totals

Here is my problem:
A person really wants a new car. I have 4 cars that are very similar to one another, and the person really likes all four based on appearance only. I figure that if I ask enough distinguishing yes and no questions, I can narrow it down to one car out of the four that would be best suited for the person and I can be certain they would be happy with it because of the information they provided.
So I want to weight each yes/no question (0-4) and create a condition or if-then (forgive me for my numbers illiteracy) so that if they answer yes to question #1 for example, then that weighted number (we will say 3 for this example) which happens to be associated with a honda civic (one of the four cars) will go into a cell that keeps a running total for the honda civic. At the end of the questions, based on the way the person answered, the highest total number would suggest one of the four cars would be best suited for him.
So, I am looking for a way to create a formula to satisfy what I am hoping to do. Can anyone help? Below is what I thought it might look like. Thanks!

Interesting! I assume the weightings are your knowledge and opinion, not the customer's wish-list. If so, instead of entering y (4) for Honda Civic airbags, you could just enter 4 (I assume that it gets a 4 because it has side air bags, and you consider those air bags to be reliable). I assume the Chevy Malibu has no side air bags, and so gets 0. Then you have just numbers that are easier to deal with.
How about this for the Features Table (I renamed this table Features in the left sidebar and added a label in cell A1):

There are check boxes in Row 2 under each feature (they show here as TRUE/FALSE). Tick means yes, it is important to the customer. No tick means no, it is not important to the customer.
You can insert check boxes with Inspector > Cells, click on Cell Format to choose tick boxes.
Add another table and rename it Outcome. The Outcome Table uses IF so that a feature only counts IF a checkbox is ticked. enter this in cell B3:

Select and copy down then across to fill to cell D6. Please note that these formulas will only work if you name the Table "Features" otherwise you must use cell references.

Can you choose your photos from your computer to be imported into your iPhone?

Unfortunately I do not have a Mac computer. I have a Windows 7 computer. I have some select photos that I want to be imported into my iPhone so I can use them as a wallpaper background. Last time I imported pictures from my computer to my iPhone, I got the whole folder of photos, which I did not want to happen.

I forgot to mention about Videos also. Can I choose videos I've taken with iTouch in the computer to be imported into my iPhone?

How do you choose your video folder so itunes can see it?

For some reason, itunes is not seeing my video folder on my laptop. How can I point it to the correct folder so I can sync some videos to my iphone?

Back in iTunes, click on the Movies or TV Shows menu items to see what iTunes sees. They have to first be listed there in your library.
Then try to play one. Just because they are listed there, if you ever moved them and didn't tell iTunes, iTunes has a pointer pointing to the old location. If iTunes can play them you should be ok (if in right format for iPhone). If it cannot find it, it will tell you (and put an exclamation point next to file) and you have to go find the file (iTunes will prompt to have you find it) so it can update it's pointer.
Only after iTunes knows where it is (eg: can play the file from your library) can you sync it (if in right format).

After deleting all data and trying to restore from icloud, How long does it sit on the choose backup screen after choosing your backup?

I backed up on icloud and then went to settings and deleted all data. When my phone restarted and I got all the way to choose icloud back up to restore, my phone has now sat on that same screen for over 2 hours now. Only thing that has happened was a message that popped up and said that could not connect to itunes server. Is it just frozen or is it actually restoring? I have tried restarting the phone and starting over several times, but everytime it just sits on this screen. My son did his and it was working within 20 mins.
