Choosing a Phone

To choose a new handset is not the hardest thing in the world to do, but as so many people struggle to do so , here's a couple of tips.
!-Go to a phone retailer and play with a couple
2- write a list of requirements on a piece of paper and use Google to find handsets that fulfill the requirements.
3- Visit independent tech websites to read reviews, NOT Apple, Nokia, Samung, HTC, Android help sites, as you will get a pejudiced view, as EVERY handset EVER made can have and does have issue's, so the people you see on them will have an axe to grind ?
4-Make up your own mind, what someone else thinks has no relivance what so ever, they don't live your life and will very probably have different needs to the ones you have.
5- don't buy a smart phone if you can't get access to data, it's pointless !!

I recently moved to Australia and received a new iphone with a local AUS number. I have a backup of my US iphone in the icloud. Question: when I activate my new AUS iphone which option should I choose - new phone or restore from backup?  I would like to have all my contacts, email, etc. however wasn't sure that option was appropriate since it is a different/new number and a new phone.

Yes, as new iPhone then restore from backup.

  • Why can't I choose my phone number as my signature in text messaging?

I am using iPhone 6.  Under settings I cannot choose to use my phone number as my signature.  It defaults to my Apple ID ( a personal e-mail) and I do not prefer to use that.  I have been into settings but I cannot change my messaging signature to be my phone #.  Please let me know how I can change this so that it works in the manner I prefer, not Apple's ID setting.

    Axeman:
My apologies for the lack of clarity.  Yes, "Do you mean it is being sent from your Apple ID instead of your phone number?"
When I go in to settings>Messages > Send & Receive > My phone number is not a choice.  I Cannot choose it (as it is greyed out).  I am sure this is somehow related to using iMessage vs. text.
Since I use this phone both personally and professionally I'd like to just choose my phone number vs. e-mail.  Thanks for  your help so far!  Need to find the proper solution.

  • I ordered a phone online. How do I choose my phone number?

I ordered a phone online. There was no option to choose an area code and phone number. How do I choose my phone number?

Your carrier does that, so contact them. If you upgraded your contract, you'll keep the same number & the phone will come pre-activated using that number. Only unlocked phones will come without a number per-assigned.

  • Help me choose a phone with Whatsapp (it ain't eas...

So... After being a smartphone lLumia dood for a loong time i am now ditching smartphones all together. I dont use facebook anymore and i want a nice slim candybar phone with long battery life, no touch, dual sim and whatsapp. Thats all i want. Simple? No!
My Main sim is 3G so the phone need to support this (because most 2g phones won't use EDGE/GPRS data on 3g cards as it is now).
I thought at first that i could use the Asha 206, but no. It is only 2g.
I would have loved the Nokia 225, but it does not support whatsapp. Why!!!?????
220 was also an option, but here again no 3G
210 was also an option but it is not available in my country and its crazy expensive for what you get.
    HELP ANYONE?

Both the Nokia 225 and Nokia 210 do not offer 3G either. Did you consider a Nokia 208, Nokia 301, or Nokia 515? However, WhatsApp is limited in those ‘Nokia Series 40’ based phones, for example smilies+text. Furthermore, you are not going to get any long battery life either – WhatsApp = always online.

  • My Imessage is showing my email instead of my phone number. My phone number is an option to choose from on the settings but will not let me choose the phone number, only the email

My Imessage only is giving me the option to use my email address and will not let me select my phone number

if this is happening apple is trying to help you not exceedd your data limit. That only works is if the person you are trying to contact has imessage.

  • Help choosing new phone please

    hello people
Can i ask you for your recomendations on a new phone i have tryed a couple of upgrades now and sent them both back and im now tearing my hair out lol.
all i need is a phone that looks nice,
makes calls without turning itself off (n73 lol)
    has a good camera,
and has operating system that is compatible with tomtom navigation 5.2 or 6
the two phones i had were 6280 lovely phone but cannot use tomtom on it
and n73 best phone yet but just couldnt answer calls without it rebooting
im on orange and wondered if all the probs i'd had with the n73 were due to orange. looking arround peoples comments on here i wasnt the only one the have the phone shutting down
is it all s60 phones that are un reliable?
Your comments will be greatfully read and hopefuly ill get to upgrade to a good phone.
oh sorry my current phone is 6280 running tomtom and doing what i want but its just getting a bit tired now
    many thanks martin

According to the TomTom v6 compatibility list, the choices are the N80 or the E61.
I know nothing about the E61 (and I'm too lazy to look) except that it's aimed at business users so probably doesn't have all the consumer toys I'd want.
I had a really dire time for the first few months with N80, however the latest firmware release (v4) has turned it right around: now that things are working (for me) it's a pretty impressive phone. The only gripes I have are battery life, which is not great, but I've gotten used to and the camera, which is a little disappointing, though that could be because there is no lens cover and since the lens sits exactly where my fingers want to be, there's probably half a pound of finger grease distorting the images.
I'd be tempted to hang on until January and get the N95, however you just know that's going to take 6 months of pain before it's bedded down.

  • Need Help Choosing a Phone... LG G2 VS Droid Maxx

I'm not a real technologically savvy person, but here is what I'm looking for/not looking for in a phone....
    -Battery life isn't extremely important
-I don't have a camera, so my phone will serve as my camera
-I'd play a decent amount of games/use apps on it
-I've never really watched shows or anything, but I want something that's good for it
-Something that is quick when searching on the Internet
-Great call quality/reception is extremely important
-I'm going to have it in a case regardless of what phone I get, so durability isn't a HUGE concern
-I want something that's going to stay "up to date" 2 years from now
    -Easy texting
    Which phone would be best???

Also, I would put a lot of music on my phone.....

  • I originally hooked my iphone to my cousins itunes/apple account and now want to hook to mine. But it says set up as new phone, if i choose this will everything on my phone be erased?

I originally hooked my iphone to my cousins itunes/apple account (on my computer). I did so because my computer wouldn't register with itunes (some software problem) so I couldn't hook it up. I've now fixed my computer and want to hook my iphone to my itunes/apple account however when I do it asks me to choose a new phone or restore from backup. Well it was never hooked up to this account so I need to choose new phone, if i do will everything on my phone be erased?

    Hello there, pullmyhairout.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great guidance for backing up your iOS device to your computer:
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iCloud or iTunes
    Back up
To back up the content on your iOS device to iTunes on your computer:
Make sure your computer has the latest version of iTunes.
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Choose File > Devices > Back up.
If you're using iTunes 10.7 or earlier, right-click the device and choose Backup Now.
You can also back up by syncing your iOS device with your computer. When you use iTunes to sync, backing up is the first step.
To check that the backup finished successfully, open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. You'll see the name of the device along with the date and time iTunes created the backup.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How to choose which one to use when using handoff if one has more than one phone with different network

I am using 2 iPhone with 2 different network. How to choose which phone to use when making a call.

Are you confirming your POP account is selected as the sending email account before the message is sent?
And regardless if the email is a new email or is replying to or forwarding an email received by the POP account and cofirming the POP acconut is selected as the sending email account, the message is sent by the Gmail account?
All message sent by the POP account are sent by the Gmail account?
If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad.

  • Texts going to wrong phone

My son and I both have iPhones on my AT&T account.   I also have an iPhone for work.  (Yes, we're slightly addicted in this house).  When my son sends texts to certain people, they show up (as well as the replies) on both of my phones.  The same thing happens when one friend of mine texts me - he receives our entire conversations on his phone.  Strangely, this doesn't happen with all our contacts - just a few.
Then last night, I upgraded to the new OS and now he's getting NONE of the texts I send to him.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks -
    Sherry

I had the same problem, my husband was getting all my messages, I went to:
    General Settings
    Then down to Messages(green)
Then checked "Send & Receive" option, it shows you how many addresses/phones "you can be reached by iMessage"
Choose your phone and your email only. Your son will have to do the same in his phone.
    Hope it works

  • CUPS CUPC Desk Phone control & features

    Hi,
We are doing the POC  with CUCM , CUPS , OCS RCC integration. I want to clarify some of the features using Desk phone control.
    CUCM - 7.1.2
    CUPS  -8.0.0 , CUPS 7.0
    OCS R2
CUCM CUPS are integrated and features soft phone , desk phone , IM , IPPM , LDAP are working fine.
    1) In desk phone mode , CUPC A is call with CUPC B ( soft phone or Desk Phone) . In that time CUPC C will able to the Phone status of CUPC A
such as Busy , Idle  like the Presence status in the phone ?
    2) In the OCS RCC  i'm able to call from the MOC to the Phone , but for incoming call there is no pop up from the MOC ?
    3) OCS FQDN should be resolved in the CUPS ? ( test.domain.com)
    4) From the MOC is it able to see the User Phone status as mentioned in the 1st Point.
    Thanks

    1) DNS entry is really required in the CUPS towards the OCS server (  ex ocs.lab.com)
[Michael] Technically, it will work without DNS.  Tweaking might required.  Since you already have OCS entry in DNS, you may just point your CUPS to the DNS server.  That'll make thing's easier.
    2) When the incoming call to the RCC phone , OCS  will pop up the Incoming call to the MOC.
    [Michael]Yes.
    3) How important  MOC  RCC plugin we have to install in the MOC? how its work with MOC ?
[Michael] MOC RCC plugin is only required when the Line URI in Active Directory cannot uniquely identify a phone device and a line.  For example:
Scenario 1: shared-line across multiple devices
Line URI is "tel:1234;phone-context=dialstring".  If there's only one phone with DN 1234, you don't need the plug-in.  Otherwise, you may
    a) Use the plug-in to choose the phone you want to control.
    or
    b) Change the Line URI to "tel:1234;phone-context=dialstring;device=SEPAABBCCDDEEFF" (then you don't need the plug-in)
Scenario 2: same DN in different partitions
Line URI is "tel:1234;phone-context=dialstring;device=SEPAABBCCDDEEFF".  If there's  only one line on phone SEPAABBCCDDEEFF with DN 1234, you don't need the plug-in.  Otherwise, you  may
    a) Use the plug-in to choose the phone you want to control (even though there's only one device)
    or
    b) Change the Line URI to  "tel:1234;phone-context=dialstring;device=SEPAABBCCDDEEFF;partition=partition1" (then you  don't need the plug-in)

  • ZR will not update - Phone is a brick

My 2 month old Xperia ZR (purchased unlocked from Amazon at $549 US) is now a brick.  I bought this phone for its ability to survive underwater, dust resistance and drop test.  It seems just the rugged phone that I needed for 24x7x365 support duty.
Well, I should have asked if the phone would survive an upgrade.  Apparently, it does not.
Performing the 10.3.1.A.2.67 system upgrade failed  as I used PC Companion on Win7.  I was warned it would take 30 minutes for the upgrade by PC Companion.  At 26 minutes, I received an error message.  The retry also failed.  Then, the driver would not load and Win7 kept telling me the ZR was an unknown USB dev ice.
BUT, by this time, my phone was a brick.  It would turn on, show the SONY logo and, then, turn off.
So, I call Sony Mobile Tech Support (1-866-766-9374 or 1-877-7XPERIA).  Mayelin sent my a procedure to try in recovering my phone.  No go.  So, I call back and talk to Jamie.  She doesn't even want to read my case notes (1-840176438).  She goes to read the notes and transfers me to Mr. Dialtone.  I call back and take to Natasha and ask for a Supervisor.  Apparently, Sony does not staff their Call Centers with Supervisors.  So, she asks for my number in order to have someone in Escalations call me back.  No, she did not know when the callback would take place nor any timeframe like that there.
After 25 years of technical support experience in data networks, I know bull**bleep** when I hear it.  There really ought to be a law that mandates Supervisors be present and available at all times a support call center is operating.  The support bull**bleep** performed by companies such as Sony, and/or its outsource support vendors, is just criminal considering how much their products cost.  Very unprofessional and user hostile.
I have included the procedure sent to me by Mayelin.  It may be of help to some other poor and unfortunate person who might have also bought this Hercules of a phone.
I will wait until Monday when I might be able to get a Supervisor.  I will then discuss how useless it is for me to undergo their 7-10 business days "evaluation" return-to-factory service when their system upgrade killed my phone.  I would expect and advance replacement on the next business day at the very least.  BUT, apparently, $549 does not get you this when you buy one of these indestructible phones.
How sad.  Has Sony quality really come to this?  I own a lot of Sony A/V and some professional products.  I just bought one of their new VAIO laptops at top dollar from a Sony Store (Stanford Shopping Center).
If this experience has taught me anything is that I should probably stick to Sony Ericsson or not buy Sony Mobile products at all.  My old Sony-Ericsson T515 never gave me any hiccups as big as this Xperia ZR is giving me.

  • Set up new iPhone 5 with iCloud restore, then iTunes created new library with only content already on phone. How do I find and sync everything in original library?

My daughter got a new iPhone 5 and we set it up using the option to restore her iPhone 4 backup from iCloud. This worked great and everything on the old phone showed up on the new phone. Because we were traveling, we weren't able to sync the iPhone 5 with iTunes at that time.
She purchased new apps and music on the iPhone 5. When we returned home she synced with iTunes, and it seems to have created a new library, with only the content currently on the phone. I don't know if it prompted her to do this on the first sync or not - she doesn't remember.
So in iTunes, the library now only shows the music on the phone. A sync isn't doing much now because when choosing the phone in iTunes and selecting each content type across the top (Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows) the box is unchecked to sync that content. When I check the box to "Sync Music", iTunes gives a warning:
Are you sure you want to sync music? all existing songs and playlists on the iPhone Becca's iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library.
Same goes for apps, except that warning also mentions that the apps and their data will be erased and replaced.
At some point she was also getting a message that this iPhone was associated with another library, but I'm not sure how she had triggered that. She says she canceled out of that. I can see all of the music
How do we get iTunes to see the "old" library of songs, videos and apps without losing the ones she's purchased already on the iPhone? The music files themselves are still on the computer, and include music both purchased from iTunes as well as music ripped from CDs. Thanks for any advice!
