Choosing development software to use with AS

Hello!
We need an advise. We use Developer Suite 9i for software development purposes, but now we faced a problem: we need to draw a dynamic schema of our network based on the configuration information stored in DB (stations as rectangles, links as lines between them, some additional text information near them, and all this information should be updatable by timer, following to changes in DB). It seems that we can't do it in Oracle Forms. So what products can be recommended? The solution should be compatible with OAS 9i rel.2 which we are going to use for distribution and it's better to use some of Oracle products to exclude possible incompabilities and reduce support problems.

You can use Java to draw such a schema. You can develop it with Oracle9i JDeveloper and run it on Oracle9iAS.
In fact you can create a Javabean that draws the picture using JDeveloper and then include it inside your Oracle Forms application.

  • What is the best font management software to use with CS6?

I currently use Extensis Fusion 3 but it cannot auto-activate my fonts in CS6. It looks like Fusion 5 is also limited. Is there a better font management software to use with CS6?

Get rid of Norton a/k/a Symantec. It is one of the worst pieces of trash you can install on a Mac.
You do not need any additional anti-virus software than is already designed into OS X to protect your Mac against malware. I assume you paid enough for your iMac and that's part of what you paid.
If you use Windows, or are concerned about harboring viruses that target Windows, or care about friends who use Windows, then get ClamXav. It's in the App Store and it is free.
Since friends don't let friends use Windows, I have no use for it.

What is the best anti virus software to use with OS X 10.8?  Norton is slowing my iMac down and I'm constantly being bombarded by blocking messages for programs I don't recognize.

  • Video software to use with ARD?

Is there any software that can worked with the video camera on a MacBook that I can use with ARD to monitor the kids from my desk?

None that I know of that works with ARD. If you want a "baby monitor", I'd suggest rather than trying to use the built-in camera in a MacBook (awkward to try and place and orient to get you a useful view), you get an IP webcam and software such as SecuritySpy. SecuritySpy has both a Dashboard widget and a screensaver module that can show "live" updates from the camera.

  • Need help choosing a display to use with 12" ibook

I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered earlier. I'm contemplating purchasing a monitor to use with my ibook and something that could be used later with a new Mac Mini or Power Mac. I can't bank roll a Mac monitor... they're beautiful but trés expensive. So I'm looking for some other brand. The question I have is what type of monitor should I buy. I know I want a LCD (17" pref), I’d like to spend less than $400, and VGA would be nice so I don't have to purchase an additional adaptor. Is there anything else I should be aware of? What about monitors with a DCI connection? Are they difficult to connect/need expensive adaptor? Any advice or recommendations you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Laura

Keep in mind that the iBook does not support extended desktop mode. This means that you can only use an external monitor for mirroring your main display. Since the resolution of the iBook is very low (1024 x 768), virtually any display will support it.
If you want to use an external monitor with another system later, consider getting a large CRT display, rather than an LCD. While LCDs have their attractions, such as power consumption, weight, and size, these are not the main characteristics of a good display. For another five or ten years, you'll be better off with a good CRT display. (This is my personal opinion, naturally. I was drooling over the 30" Apple Display myself, but generally, I'm not entirely satisfied with the current state of LCD technologies.)
P.S. There's a trick to enable extended desktop mode for iMacs and iBooks: http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html You may want to try that, too. Beware! It's highly addictive!

  • Have OnOne software Suite used with cs5 always crashing MACbook Pro

I Have OnOneSoftware Suite used with CS5 PS and Lightroom 3..Work with Canon 5dMark11 (so files are big) ..always crashing when going into OnOne..Do I need more ram?
I have a macbookPro, late 2009, with 4GB Ram. ALso can I installed more on that model? Thanks for help in advance!

That's not an issue with the MacBook Pro hardware.  You should either visit the OnOneSoftware website or Adobe.  They'll provide you with a better/faster/more useful answer.

  • What's a good web design software to use with hype.

I didn't have luck with sandvox, rapid weaver, or highway. It seems that iWeb is gone and im trying to transition into a diffrent html5 compatible web software. I would like to learn web coding but for now i need a quick and efficiant transsition. I've came across Hype and its great but iWeb can use it. I would love to hear some suggestions on what everyone else is using (not including previously mentioned apps).

No, iWeb has not gone anywhere.  It is correct that Apple no longer sells it or supports it, but iWeb is an application like any other on your mac and if you have it you can most definitely still continue to use it.  It works with Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion and by all accounts, it will work with the new Mavericks too.
You can do a search of this site and there are literally hundreds of posts on the same topic of new web design software, but you can take a look at Flux 4, Freeway Pro/Express 6, WebAcappella 4 and Quck n Easy Website Builder.  Other than that, you are then looking at Content Management Systems such as Joomla and WordPress.
You can also take a look at EasyWeb which is a new app being developed by Rage Software - it has not been released yet and is still in its beta testing stage, but this is closer to iWeb than most.

  • Looking for note taking software to use with a graphics tablet

    Hello folks,
I am trying to find a software that would allow me to interchangably use typing and writing/drawing on a graphics tablet smoothly.
I'm looking for something that would essentially provide a 'blank sheet of lined-paper' where i can quickly type what my professors are saying, as well as easily draw whatever they are drawing. Also, since I am studying engineering, I would need something that I can easily write math symbols and equations so I can use it as scratch paper.
At the same time, I am looking to save trees and money, as well as keep organized and simplicity when it comes to archiving.
I have tried Microsoft Word 2008's notebook view, and this is currently the closest thing to what I want, but it favors mostly the text side of what I want (of course), and isn't very good in the drawing part. It also isn't very smooth when I try to do practice math/physics/engineering problems on it, nor is it very good at drawing molecular structures (O-Chem)... but for the most part, it gets the job done. It is also a headache because when you zoom in a lot to make it easier to write (mind you, I am using a tiny macbook screen..), the title bar also zooms in, and ends up taking half of the screen, making zooming in practically useless. (the title bar is also locked, so even as you scroll down, it stays in the top half.)
I have also tried Adobe Acrobat Professional 7, where I simply made a blank notebook from some image online, and I use it as scratch paper. When it comes to drawing, it is very smooth, but it's a headache sometimes, because after writing something and pausing for a second or two, the pen tool automatically becomes a 'selector' tool, and so if i want to draw over what I previously wrote, it changes to selector and instead of writing over, it drags and drops the object around a bit. The tolerance for that is really high too, and i'd have to bring the pointer about half an inch or so before I can start writing something again. I also haven't given the text a try yet, but it lets me make collapseable text boxes, so that is good for further annotating my equations and drawings, but isn't very useful for a full-lecture class (i.e. biology)
I also don't even want to consider photoshop, because it's basically too powerful, and I don't want my laptop fans going off in-class (its SUPER loud when it happens...) and I need it to last the day.
    So just a sum up:
I'm looking for a good note-taking software (for mac) that will allow me to smoothly use my graphics tablet AND be able to type.
MS Word '08 and Adobe Acrobat are close... but aren't quite to what I want exactly...
I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet and an '09 Intel-based MacBook.
    Thank you in advance!

I have had this same issue and found this program called NoteBook that allows you to type, and draw (write) notes on a variety of paper types, (lined, graphing, engineering, etc.) and it uses the .nb file type that allows you to save multiple "pages" inside one file in a sort-of "notebook" if you will. It works great, but has several minor disadvantages. I can't change the ink color, I can't change the tip thickness (other than the pressure sensitive option with my wacom graphics tablet), and it doesn't allow you to open pdfs or other documents to inscribe upon. All around though it has been wonderful. There are really no good note taking apps out there...

  • Best software to use with Palm Pilot

I recently made the conversion from PC to Mac. I am still haveing a hard time converting my Palm Pilot over, however. I have tried Palm desktop's software for Mac (Palm Desktop 4.2.1) and I have also tried the built in mac programs for addresses and datebook/to do items. The mac address book and Ical are better than the Palm versions but I still have some questions. First, should I give up on all the memos that are on my palm pilot or should I buy "missing sync" in order to keep my memos? What are other palm users who are using macs using to keep their lives in order on the mac platform? Also, if I buy "missing sync" (or some other 3rd party software) will I still be using Ical and the mac address book? Please give your personal preferences. Thank you!

Most users of the Missing Sync for Palm OS do use it to synchronize with the Address Book and iCal. You can, however, use it to drive other conduits instead, including those bundled with the Palm Desktop.
Mark/Space includes the Mark/Space Contacts conduit to synchronize with the Address Book, the Mark/Space Events conduit and Tasks conduit to synchronize with iCal, and the Mark/Space MemoPad conduit to synchronize with the OS X memos application they also provide.
In addition, Mark/Space provides conduits for iPhoto, iTunes, AvantGo content and a conduit to synchronize the internal clock of your handheld with that or your Macintosh.
The Address Book and iCal will behave just as they do using iSync with your handheld organizer, with a couple of exceptions: the address you have in the Address Book need not be labeled Home in order to synchronize, for example.
You should read these articles to gain a better understanding of how fields are mapped by the Mark/Space conduits:
    For the Address Book: http://www.markspace.com/support/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2560
    For iCal: http://www.markspace.com/support/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2563
Memos are synchronized using the Mark/Space MemoPad conduit they provide, to their Mark/Space MemoPad application. Maybe the best way to explain how it looks and operates is to say that the OS X application exactly mimics the Palm OS application. It looks on you Macintosh, just like the Palm OS version looks on your handheld.
I do use precisely this setup with a PowerBook G4 12" 867 MHz and a PalmOne Treo 600, synchronizing via USB.
And, no, I do not now work for—and have never actually worked for—Mark/Space, either as an employee or a contractor. As often as I recommend their software packages, however, I probably ought to!

  • Home Hub 3 Software for use with Win 7

I am going to be getting a new PC soon with Win 7 on it. I currently use a machine with Vista on it and I have this connected to a BT Home Hub 3.
I will to set up the hub on the new machine, my question is , where can i get the software for this?  If I had a disk for this I have lost it
At one time there used to be a software page with available downloads but I cant find that now.
    Any help gratefully received!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No software is needed, just connect it up either by Ethernet cable, or wireless using the wireless key on the home hub.
Its best not to install any of the BT software, as it can cause problems.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Can any anti-virus protection software be used with Mac?

I was wondering how to protect my laptop from viruses etc and whilst looking i've found no software thats for Mac,
Can anyone suggest anything or know of any software to help?
    Thanks,

You can get Norton Anti-Virus for Mac here:
    http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=ma&pvid=nav10 mac
Bear in mind that (as far as I know) there are no viruses that have been found to infect OS X. The Norton package above is intended to make sure that your Mac files are clean of PC viruses so that you don't infect your PC-based friends.

  • Choosing A Camorder to Use with FCE

I have the newest version of FCE and I've noticed that I've tried to use other harddrive camcorders, (sony + panasonic) but neither work well or at all with FCE, I'm looking to buy a Canon Vixia HG20 and I was wondering if anyone has used one with FCE yet? its a rather new camcorder btw

Yup have to agree - I have a Panasonic AVCHD cam and it works wonderfully. Just make sure your version of FCE4 is updated to 4.0.1 - this should fix your issues.
Really depends what format you like to work with
AVCHD, HDV, DV etc. This is a good website to compare the various cams.
