Choosing iPod Speakers

What’s important to you when you’re looking for iPod speakers? It’s a simple question, but one that can generate a myriad of responses. Your response may depend on which of these categories of listener you fall under:
The Audiophile- Sound is everything. You notice when an MP3 sounds too compressed. You know that Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled 1992 debut album is the best record to test speakers’ performance. Sound matters. Obviously, for you, a higher end speaker is going to be the way to go. One of the Bose models could be the pick: Clear, crisp sound, lots of noise and little distortion, bass that’s loud but not defeating. For those that value sound, quality is worth the extra cost.
The On-the-Go Type- You like to bring your tunes wherever you go, whether it’s the beach, the gym, the office or the park. For you, there are two big things your speakers must have: portability and wireless capability. Portability is paramount. Your speakers need to be light, easy-to-carry, and easily storable in a backpack or bag. Wireless capability is huge too. Where you go, there isn’t always an outlet to be found. That’s why, in addition to a cord, your speakers need to run on battery power as well. The Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Speakers or the Insignia Portable Speakers are two of many portable options for the on-the-go type.
The Multitasker- Listening to music on your iPod is nice, but sometimes, the same old songs get tired. The multitasker need not fear, because there are a wide variety of iPod speakers that include AM/FM radios as well. These models will also usually include alarm clocks as well. Listen to your iPod, and then listen to the radio- it’s the best of both worlds.

I tought it wasnt good to run down the battery?
It is not if it is actually being used. But, if the battery is always being charged, you still need to use it once or twice a month.

Using ipod speakers/updating software

I got an ihome2go (portable speaker system for ipod) for christmas. i have been trying to get it to play songs from my ipod nano (1st gen). it is compatible with this nano, and when i dock the nano in the ihome, the screen shows the song that should be playing, and shows the "play" symbol, but there is no volume. a friend advised me that i might need to update the software for my nano to get it to play. is this correct? also, when i click on the link to download the new itunes software, it asks me if i want to 'run' or 'save' the file. Which should i do? any help would be greatly appreciated, i really want to be able to use my speakers! thanks.

you should always select save not run. by clicking save it will download it to your directory of your choice for later install.
if you choose run it will run the install from the apple website. if you get a break in connection it will ruin your install.
im not sure if you have to update your ipod or not but is there a button on the speaker system to choose ipod input. im not familar with the speaker setup.
also what is the volume level on your ipod. that could be the problem.
does this speaker system hook up via the headphone jack or the ipod connector.

Opinion on the Logic 3 MIP108 I-Station 8 iPod Speakers/Docking Station

How to choose the speakers Flash Player uses?

How on earth do I choose the speakers which Flash Player uses?
I downloaded the latest Flash Player, and it worked fine. Then I had a Skype conversation, and now Flash uses the same "speakers" which Skype uses ie a USB headset.Flash player can no longer see the computer's speakers.
There seems to be absolutely no way in the web-based setup to tell Flash Player which sound output to choose. In Windows control panel (WIn XP SP3) the defaults for both sound and voice playback are set to the speakers (Realtek HD Audio) - Windows media player plays correctly over the speakers. If I right-click on an embedded video, I get a settings manager which lets me choose the microphone and camera Flash Player uses, but not the speakers. And I can't choose the speakers in the general sound controls of the Realtek HD audio, because those controls have no way of referring to any individual program. It is wierd!!!!
I don't think there is anything cracked or broken - it was fine this morning, now not. How do I get sound coming out of the speakers again?

Connecting Ipod nano to Logitech mm50 ipod speakers

I just bought the Logitech mm50 Ipod Speakers and can't hear the sound from my Ipod Nano over the speakers. I have fully charged the battery with the included charger and now want to listen to the music using the included adaptor (which plugs into the wall) to no avail. The Ipod shows the songs are playing, but we can't hear them. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, can you help me solve this one, short of returning it to the store?

The Creative speakers should work with the iPod as long as they have a standard headphone jack. I saw some connections from Creative to the iPod, but they were not rated.

Advice for iPod speakers vs. AirTunes?

I no longer have a stereo, so I'm looking into my options to integrate w/my iPod or iTunes (nothing overtly large; med. quality is fine, I'm not a sound expert.) My dilemma is that I'm torn between buying iPod speakers (Creatures, Bose, whatnot) vs. investing in some other compact speaker system and using AirTunes. One factor is a radio tuner and that I'd like to have one. I know there's an iPod FM tuner accessory out there - but can you play that over iPod speakers? Or, if I have AirTunes, am I just better off using that given that my iTunes library holds more than my mini anyway?
I'd love to hear your preferences and feedback. Thanks very much!

Logitech mm5 ipod speakers + iphone 2.0= OK... but 2.1=NO music for you!

My iphone was working fine with my mm50 logitech ipod speakers but after upgrade to 2.1; my 2 iphones (wife and mine) dosent sound thoght the mm5 anymore... the air plane mode "suggestion" pops but after that nothing... i guess logitech is gonna sell more speakers thanks to some stupid "work with iphone 2.1" logo in the box, and then 2,5, 3G, ipod plus, iphone classic... ipod millenium...
has anybody suffer this?

well after a full restore (not an update) both iphones are working without a hitch in the mm50.
it has been weird but, deserves to be shared.

What can I do to fix my iPod speakers?

My iPod speakers mysteriously stopped working and it shows that I have headphones in when I don't.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Ipod speakers - battery life

I recently bought some ipod speakers...and was just curious - whenever my ipod is plugged in it is charging. Does this effect the battery life? There doesn't seem to be any other way to play the ipod because it has to be docked in to the speakers...

Bose iPod speakers

I'm deciding whether or not to buy a 5th generation ipod, and i was just wondering if the 5th gen will work with my Bose ipod speakers.

If you mean the Bose SoundDock then according to Bose the answer is yes:
"The SoundDock™ system comes packaged with inserts that will work for most iPod® players with dock connector, including the iPod, iPod mini, iPod photo, and iPod with video."
If you haven't got an insert I suggest you contact Bose, according to their website they provide one free for the Nano so I'm sure they can provide others.

What are the best iPod Speakers?

Hello, I have an iPod Nano (1GB, BLACK) and I want to my a "speaker dock" for it. I would just like to know if anyone knows of a good one for under $100 canadian? Thanks!

Well apple Sells Speakers made For all The iPods. But They all Cost More than 100$. Think that, the more Money You put on.. The More quality You get. EXEPTED THE: iPod Hi-Fi Speaker. It may cost a lot and the sound looks good. But it is not My Prefered one .

Connection to Ipod speakers

So i have a Ipod Nano 2 GB. ive had it since christmas '05. For the past few months ive been having some problems with connecting my ipod to the speaker that i have for it. When i connect the ipod i have to move the Ipod around slightly to get it to work, and to be able to hear music. When i look at the bottom of the ipod to see where it connects, on one side it is bent down, so im thinking that is why i cant hear anything when listening to it, on the speakers. So, is there anyway i can repair this problem or do i have to go out and buy a new ipod...?

Help me please!!! i just wanna know if i can get it repaired or if i have to get a new ipod!

IPod speakers for golf cart?

I'm looking to find a set of "outdoor" speakeers that I can mount on my golf cart and play my iPod thru. I've read some of the archived articles on this subject and learned that apparently I need powered speakers. ( I had a set of Radio Shack's years ago - wish now I still hand them - don't know if they're still made.)
Anyway, I'm not interested in some of those that attach to the iPod and make it a mini boom box. I'm hoping to find something small that I can mount right up under the two front corners of the cart's canopy, and then plug the iPod into them and drop the iPod into a cup holder.
I love the little Kardon bubble speakers that came with the flat screen iMac and they'd be perfect except they're not powered and the plug doesn't fit the iPod's jack.
So, anybody got a recommendation? I looked at outdoorspeakers.com and didn't find anything promising...
This seems such an obvious use for the iPod I'm amazed it's been so hard to find the right speakers.

The Logitech Ultimate Ears Boom is the largest rechargable speaker that you can get. It's not really that big but you would be amazed at the amount of sound that puppy puts out!

Ipod Speakers with DAB Radio

Does anyone know if there any speaker type accessories that also have built in DAB radio.
I can't seem to find anything remotely similar except for those systems that allow you to plug you iPod into a line-in plug.
Also surprised that no manufacturer has tapped into this market.
I want speakers for the ipod but I don't want to buy them and then find out that a dab model will be out soon. I'd also prefer to have an all-in-1 unit so I don't have to have cables lying around.
Am I being to fussy or is this a valid request..

Are there any iPod Speakers that do NOT charge your iPod when connected?

I'm looking for an affordable iPod speaker that does not charge or gives you the option of not having your iPod charge.
I know people who keep attaching their iPod to the dock speakers that they have, and it constantly keeps charging and that literally killed the battery on their iPod's.
I know there is the Logitech MM32 (connects through headset jack), but not sure if that is compatible with the new Nano 3rd Generation.
Does anyone know of any other speakers that does not charge your iPod while connected (when connected to the wall outlet -> AC) or gives you the iPod not to charge the iPod?

Constantly charging does NOT kill the iPod battery, it is a myth.
Once the battery is charged the main charging stops and it is switched to 'trickle' charge which means it get a slight charge every so often.
There is not problem at all in keeping the iPod topped up, just make sure you discharge it fully approx once a month as per Apple's instructions here :-

The key is the number of full charge cycles you o through, if you only ever keep topping up the battery then you will not go through full charge cycles very quickly. If you only ever top up the last 5% of the battery then you can do this 20 times and it will only count as 1 charge cycle. Based on the 400 they say you can get from a battery before the capacity drops to 80% that would mean you could top up the battery that last 5% over 400*20=8,000 times.
