Choosing mulitple pieces of a clip in the Clip Trimmer

Does anyone know how to select multiple pieces of a clip in the Clip Trimmer and put them into the project? Right now, I can only choose one piece of an entire clip. Thanks.

Are you using the clip trimmer in the events browser? You can only select one piece if a clip at a time. After it's been selected and moved into the project you can select another piece in the event browser. If the clip is already in the project you can split the clip in to multiple pieces to use different sections.

  • Little red "upturned pin" marker in a clip in the clips pane

Does anyone know what the little red "upturned pin" marker I've found in a couple of misbehaving clips in the clips pane is indicating to me? I'm sorry if there's some info i've overlooked in the tutorials.

    Lara,
The red marker you describe indicates the position of your playhead when you are in the clip viewer.
When you play your movie the red mark should move.

  • OK to remove used clips from the Clips Viewer?

At the bottom of the iMovie 9 screen, there's an area that I think is called the Clips Viewer--the area that shows the imported clips that you can add to your project. After I have done so and I am sure that I don't want to add them anymore to my project, is it okay to remove the clips from the Clips Viewer? I have a lot of clips that I want to use in my project that all have very similar thumbnails and having them all in the Clips Viewer at once will create hopeless confusion.

Don't delete any clips from the event viewer that are used in your project until you have completed the project and shared it. Then if you are sure you do not ever want to re-edit that project or share it again or use those clips in another project then you can delete them. If you delete them while your project is active the clips will go off line and your project is unusable.

You did not tell us what for at you are editing in your timeline.
Doesn't really matter. Export the timeline as a self contained movie in its native format and settings. Open Compressor, add this movie to Compressor's batch and use the mpg-1 preset.
The manual that comes with Comrpessor is a hundred pages or more so you might need to open the help system if you've never use Compressor before.

  • My transitions are distorting my clips when the clips are stabilized.

I stablized every clip in my storyboard (timeline), and whenever I add transitions it jumps in and out of stabilization. What do I do?
    Final Cut Pro X

I tried that: I shortened the end of the outgoing clip and lengthened the beginning of the incoming clip, so that a centered cross dissolve occupies the same space:
The problem still persists. For this particular transition, the transition shows a frozen frame from the incoming clip, instead of a portion of the video like mentioned above.
I have also tried deleting the render files for the transition; no luck. Could it be some sort of bug or glitch in the program?

  • Can not see all the clips in large Icon view in my bin

I arranged my clips in a bin in large Icon view but i can not see all the clips in the bin while in that mode. I see the clips when in list mode or when i drag them out of the bin into the main bin. As soon I drag them back in large icon view bin they do not show up, when going back in list view they are there.
    Any idea
Also my daughter accidently pulled the electrical plug, which turned my external hard drive off. So the media was off line. I hit reconnect the clip but the clip does not show as connected in the bin it keeps the Media offline icon but putting the clip in the viewer or time line it plays it. So the clip is reconnected
hope anybody can help with those two issues thanks

    Nick
thanks for your message it helped to show the clips. Here how I solved it. I put the clips i could not see in large Icon view, to the Project folder. Even in the project folder I was only seeing the clips with Thumbnail in list view. When i hit large Icon view the clips disappeared, and they could not have been lower down as i only have about 5 folders in the project. I then clicked arrange the clip by name and they showed up again. Like that i dragged the clip back in to its bin and it showed up. The reason for going back and forth I arranged the clips manually in the bin before and when hitting arrange by name it spread them to far apart and put the clips not in a sequence I liked.
for the second part I followed Neil's suggestion it worked.

  • Work on more clips at the same time (premiere elements 11)

Question: is het possible to change the colour / ad the tool videostabilisation on 2 or more clips at the same time?

    Gentlemen,
I will try to explain what happened to me when I tried to paste effects.
I copied the keyframe effects from the first clip, (selected the clip, right click, copy)  Then selected the target clip and didn't pay attention to the postion of the timeline indicator which was about 1/3 of the way into it.
Subsequently, when I then selected "paste effects and adjustments" to this target clip, it did so, but the effects then began at that point where the timeline indicator was at.
So for a timing eg:  Say the both clips are 10 seconds long with all the effects at the beginning within the first 5 seconds.
The indicatior was at about the 4 second mark in the target clip when pasting and that's where the 5 seconds of effects from the first clip started.  (about 4 seconds in)
Since I didn't know about the shift key technique, I just discovered that moving the timeline indicator to the beginning of the target clip (first frame) and re-do the procedure, it resulted in the correct position and timing etc.

  • Playhead info for imported video clips is static/constant in iMovie 9 as I scroll over the clips. Is it possible to make it display correct info?

HI, I have been importing videos clips from a SD card to iMovie 09. These clips are analyzed for animal behavior and the timing information for a specific event is critical for proper analyses. Most of the times, the imported clips display correct timing information for a given frame as I scroll over the clips. However, sometimes, some clips show a static or constant timestamp for all the frames in a clip and the timing information doesn't change in the playhead as I scroll over different frames.
For such clips, I was wondering if it's possible to display correct timing information for the frames, and how? Since I only need frame timing info relative to the starting point, I am open to a solution that involves readjusting starting timestamp.
Thank you so much for your time and help.

    Several ways to do this.
I would scrub to the in point of the audio you want to change, then drag all the way back to the beginning of the clip. Then EDIT/SPLIT CLIP or right-click/Split Clip. Then go to the out point of the audio clip and drag to the right to the end of the clip. Then Edit/Split Clip. The clip in the middle should have your 25 minutes of audio.
    Another way: Use Comment Markers
See this Tutorial from Ken Stone.

If neither of those work for you, tell me more about what you are trying to do.

  • Media folder is empty, how can I get the clips back?

The first time, this problem appeared was when I imported data in a new project. For two times the import stopped and I didn't find any clips in the media folder.
Then I succeded with importing and worked on the project several hours.
But now theres no data from this project on the computer anymore, after I had worked on it today. I didn't save any changes, just pressed "apple Z" and the i Movie window was empty, clips disappeared and stuff. The media folder is empty again and when I start iMovie it sais, that it can't find the clips.
The clips are not in the waste basket and i searched for it everywhere but i can't find them.
Do you know what could have happened and how I can get my data back?
I have an older version, iMovie 3.0.3 on Mac Pro.
Thanks for help!! (and hope you understand my school englisch)

Normally Apple-Z will undo just the last thing I've done but yesterday it deleted everything and I don't know how to get it back.
True, that is what should have happened, but in your case for some reason it cleared the lot. If there is nothing in the media folder, and nothing in the trash, then it sounds as though you have truly lost everything. The big question is really why the problem occurred in the first place.
As Lennart says, you should not still be using imovie 3.
Sorry can't be of more help.

  • Question about rearranging clips in the storyline

I hope I can explain my question clearly:  I have a storyline with multiple connected clips.  I want to add a generator under a clip so that I have a black background.  In other words (and I don't know the propery terminology), I want to put a generator in and then take what is now the "main" clip and the clips connected to it and make all of them connected clips on top of the generator.  But, when I try to do this by dragging the clips around, I can't do it.  The main clip and the clips connected to it that I'm dragging around just end up going on the left or right side of the generator clip.
How can I do this?  Is it possible?  I noticed that if I delete all of the connected clips from the main clip, I can move the main clip above the generator clip and have it become a connected clip.  But that presents a problem because I need all of the clips, and I've already gone to the trouble of syncing them.
I also noticed that I can take the main clip and its connected clips and turn them into a compound clip and then connect it, but that complicates the editing for me.
    Thank you for any advice.

Well, as far as why I want a black generator, I'm using a split screen effect and I want to put some titles (text) on 1/2 or 1/3 of the screen.  Maybe I don't need a generator to do that.  I'm still learning all of this.  I'm sure that if someone like you (someone with your experience) sat down and watched what I'm doing to achieve what I want, you'd have a million tips on how to do it better.  But I guess that's stuff I'll just have to pick up as I go along.
I didn't know it was possible to put clips under the primary.  That certainly helps.

  • The sound in the middle of the clip was missing.

    Dear Adobe Premiere Pro friends,
Can anyone help me, recently I have the problem when I have succeed imported the clip, some of the clips was missing the sound at the middle up to the end of the clip.

Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Timewarp only showing half the clip at 50%

I've read a few responses and seen that people have doubled the clip and used pre-comps, and I'm just in a state of disbelief that I have to do these things.  It seems like I should be able to apply Timewarp at 50% to a 7-sec clip, and the clip should become a 14-sec clip.  This is a little too easy for it not to work.
    Any suggestions out there?
    Thanks, Ron

Then you should opt for another state: if you're in a 5 m long corridor, you can reach the exit either faster or slower depending on a speed you walk, but it never turns to be a 10 m long corridor. Therefore, drop your 7 sec footage into a 14 sec comp, enable Time Remapping for the layer and extend its tail to the end of the comp.

  • Final Cut Pro X - Clicking off of the film strip on the clip isn't deselecting the clip

    Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8
    Why?
If I click on the name of the clip name just under the clip in list mode then it deselects. But it's suppose to deselect by clicking anywhere outside the clip in the clip window. I don't know if there is a system slowness problem on my machine or some parameter is causing the interface to not deselect. I tried clicking with both the cursor as the arrow and the hand icons but neither works.
    Any ideas?
       Dave

Ok thanks for such quick response.
I wonder why his video tutorial shows otherwise?
I don't know if he is using an older OS X op system or FCP Pro X version however. Well I'm sure he did since this is not very new anymore. 2007,8 or 9?
I tried it in non list (filmstrip) view (clicking off of the clip to see if it works like you said and it does.
    Thank you.

  • No Audio In FCPX Timeline, But It's In The Clip Window

I grabbed some video with my iPhone and imported it into FCPX. I'm ready to start editing, so I drag the clip into the timeline -- but there's no audio. Previewing the clip in the Clip window/area pays the audio just fine -- but I get nothing in the Timeline. I see the waveform, I see the meter moving like it should -- but no audio.
    What am I doing wrong?

Luis!  Hi, it's me again...the person with the conversion issues?  Anyway, that has been solved thankfully.  My new problem is what has been mentioned in this thread.  Audio in Clip Viewer but not when dropped in the Timeline.  I attempted the fixes suggested in this thread but I'm using FCP Version 4.0.1 (old, I know) and the steps given aren't the same.  The first part of my project has audio in the Timeline...I'm guessing I clicked or unchecked something...I've looked everywhere and can't figure it out.  Even pulled out the manual!  Let me know if you have any suggestions and thank you in advance!
I have not used older versions in a while, but I guess you may have disconnected the little "a1" from the big "A1" as seen in the image below. Drag to reconnect them. If this is not it, then I can only suggest you ask this in the Final Cut Studio forum (or Final Cut Express forum - I imagine that is what you are using).

  • Breaking a long clip into 'sub-clips'

So, I have a long clip that I've imported from, say a single long shot at an event.  I want to break that clip up into what used to be subclips.  I want to be able to treat those subclips as if they were clips - I want to be able to give them names, organize them in folders and I want to be able to drag them onto the timeline.
My question is, how does Apple think we should be doing this?  The way that I see recommended around the web is:
    Select your 'master' clip.
    Set In and Out points.
    Bring up the keyword editor.
Enter a new keyword for that 'subclip'
Doing this allows you to organize each 'subclip' by the keyword that's assigned to it and, by 'expanding' the master clip in the clip window, you can see the subclips/keywords in that master clip and you can drag them onto the timeline.
There are big issues with this, however.
There is no easy way to organize these subclips.  Lets say I make 40 subclips (keywords) from a master clip.  I then organize them into folders, 20 per folder, according to how I want them grouped. When I select a folder, I see a list of 20 clips - all named the same ... they are all named after the master clip!  I have no way of telling which clip is which without individully exanding each clip!  I could go back to the actual master clip by looking at it under the Event and exanding the master clip to see the list of all the 'keywords' - but then I have no way of orgainizing them - they're all just under that master clip.
What I want is not a 'keyword' - which is essentially a reusable identifier, used in this work-around as a single-use identfier - but a way of making parts of a master clip funtionally equivalent to the original master clip.  Just because I shot some things in one take - especially with event videography - that doesn't mean I want them grouped together for editing.  As far as I can see, there is no way to dissociate these subclips from the original master clip for the purposes of working with them.
This is basic functionality ... so am I missing something?  What is the non-workaround way of doing this?
Here is another explanation of the issue by a kindly blogger:
    http://fcpxquirks.tumblr.com/post/7122539715/so-far-the-biggest-workflow-problem -in-final-cut-10-0
    Thank you!
    A

Well, the difference is you can't do anything, like drag to the timeline or scrub, with the names in the library pane, only in the clips pane.
But you're right, that does suggest an improvement over using the folder to reveal the (sub)clips in the clip pane.  I could drag the library pane as wide as possible so I can see as much of the 'subclip names'/'keyword collection names' as possible.  Then expand the folder I want in the library pane, revealing those names.  Then I click on the subclip/keyword I want, which reveals the (sub)clip in the clips pane. I can then drag it to the timeline or scrub it etc there.  That's probably also an improvement over expanding the master clip in the clips pane, though still a right hacky pain.
I really don't think that being able to create subclips is an either/or with keywords.  They fullfill different needs.  Keywords do what they do well, but we still need the ability to create subclips, both from a logical workflow point of view and from a practical point of view, given how inconvenient this hack with keywords is.  It should be 5 step process ...
    1. You shoot your video, stopping and starting how it suits you at the during the shoot.
    2. You import the video.
    3. You break it up into clips for editing convenience.
    4. You label and group and fine tune those clips with the keywording system.
    5. You edit.
The ability to non-hackily do Step 3 is missing in Final Cut Pro X, it seems.
