Choosing photo libraries to add to home sharing just clocks.

I have enabled home sharing and can access music and Video's through my Apple TV off my Mac. I am trying to add photo libraries with the "File-Home Sharing-Chooose dialog but it just clocks.. I left if for a day with no result. I have a large photo library 66,000. Running Mavericks with all the updates and and iTunes with all the updates,
Previously this worked but I turned off home sharing and now can't get photos back to share,
Anybody have any ideas??
Thanks

  • Photos omitted from album in home sharing

When I select a photo album for home sharing, only a few of the many photos in those albums are included.  Any ideas why and how to fix it?  Thanks

Found it..  You first need to 'Show Menu Bar'.
Then 'File' -> 'Home Sharing' and the 'Choose Photos to share with Apple TV' option appears

  • Photos folder not appearing using Home Sharing

My photos folder has stopped showing up in my home sharing section on AppleTV - it seemed to work fine a week or 2 ago but now has stopped working :-/   Music and movie still show however.
anybody have any ideas what may be the problem?
    thanks guys!

  • Home Sharing Just Won't Connect

Good morning all, I just want to add my voice to the carcophony with regards iTunes Home Sharing setup to my iPad and my new ATV2.
This past weekend we bought a new ATV2 to go with the new TV. Got home, unboxed it all and plugged it all in. It all set up seemlessly, both the new TV and the ATV2 found the wireless connection, password accepted which allowed us to successfully connect to Netflix and YouTube. After playing around for a while with the new toys I decided to try and setup Home Sharing. I followed the instructions: turn on Home Sharing in iTunes, then do the same on the reset of your devices using the same user name and password. Check. Only, not "check" because it doesn't work.
I've been floating around these forums for a few days now trying to troubleshoot and find the issue. I have triple checked login information on all the devices. I have "reset" the ATV2 to no avail, all it did was get me back to the point of being able to use Netflix, YouTube, Radio / Music, and AirPlay. Last night I played around with the Windows Firewall thing in the XP control panel, adding the port numbers from one of the other posts. Nope. I change the wireless router setting to the correct WPA setting that's also floating around. Nada. I restarted the wireless router. Nothing.
I guess tonight I will log out of EVERYTHING, reset everything and then reboot everything. However, I'm expecting the same underwhelming results.
Even my husbands computer won't show up in Home Sharing, and both desktops are hardwired to the moderm/router thing.
I'm SO used to Apple's "plug and play" beauty that this is getting frustrating, I've NEVER had to work so hard to get one of their products to work.
So to summerize, I've tried a bunch of stuff without success. Netflix, YouTube and the Radio / Music functions work without a problem. I can push content to the ATV2 using AirPlay. However, I can't get Home Sharing to work, and I can't seem to buy stuff through iTunes on the ATV2.
    What else can I try?
    Sincerely,
    Claire
    Your average, non-technical, home user.

  • TS2972 enable my tv entertainment provider on my home network - then updated "a newer" modem and now home sharing just stopped home sharing

Only 2 changes to my home network set up: #1 - I installed a "new model modem" recommended by my ISP provided, and #2 I had my tv entertainment provider install their modem to the TV receiver box for accessing my home network and now home sharing will not home share.
I original had enabled, and all devices are still set up for home share - that's laptops, iphones, ipods, and ipads.
Any suggestions?  I understand these modem most have ports 123, 3689, and 5353 opened for itunes and the home sharing.
Now I am stumped on how to verify these settings.
Is it possible for me to verify these ports on these modems; how?  Or is it just wiser to contact these providers and have their technicans investigate this issue?  OR is it possible I am missing an even easier route to cure this ailment I have created unintentionally in my quest for connectivity between all things electronically capable and on the same secure network?
Oh, using PC w/WDW7 if this helps, and one other annoying detail, which confuses this entire issue of mine, the Home Share, pops on for a few minutes, and then disappears.  So yes, I am confused, it is there, and then it is not!.

Scan the Support Community sites. Apple TV losing connection is prevalent. The many postings point out the problem occurs with Apple TV1,2and 3; with different brands of router including Airport Extreme; from current and past versions of iTunes; after varying periods of working well.....minutes, hours, days; losing connection with Home Sharing and loosing Airplay; whether the router and Apple TV are in same room or separated by distance; after trying innumerable posted 'fixes'; after exchanging for a new Apple TV.
Readers, please don't post a fix until you check it works for atleast a week.

  • I selected some photos on my PC for home sharing but they don't appear under Photos on my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

Problem sharing Photos between Windows PC and iPad2.

The home network has to be working, there are settings on the iPad for the network sharing over your home network.
If your trying to move files this way, I'm not sure you can actually move them but you should be able too "SEE" them from the iPad.
Someone will be along to clarify that some more for you, good luck.

  • HT3819 Is it OK for me to use home sharing just as a way of getting my music from my old laptop to my new one before I go off to uni?

I literally just need to move all my music and TV shows that are on the itunes on my old laptop onto my new one before I go to uni next week, is this the quickest way? Or will homesharing get really confusing as my little brother is then nabbing my old laptop for himself and will be doing his ipod on there for him?

It is not the fastest way, but you can do this.
Just copy from one machine to the other.
Type " move itunes library" into the google search bar.

  • IPhones can't access Home Sharing w/ One Computer & Multiple iTunes Libraries

I have a Mac Pro that I am using as a iTunes media server for my home entertainment network. This computer has two user accounts. Each user account has it's own iTunes Library. One is for my kid's movies and the other is for my wife and I's movies. I have both of the libraries setup for Home Sharing and for the most part this works perfectly for viewing with Apple TV and the laptops that we have. Both libraries are available for use on these devices.
Where I am having trouble is with iPhones. My wife and I have iPhone 6s and when we open the Videos app it shows that only one library is available. Her phone might show the kid's library as available and mine will show the other library or visa versa. The libraries are not available at the same time on our iPhones. As I stated, our other devices are fine and are able to access each library when desired.
As an example, Jack's Library & Jane's Library are available under shared, seen in the inserted image. In my situation, only one of the libraries would be available even though both libraries are setup for Home Sharing.
I have tried the following (none resolved the issue):
    Close/Re-Open iTunes
Turning Home Sharing off/on for each of the iTunes Libraries
Turning Home Sharing off/on for each of the iPhones
    De-Authorize/Re-Authorize my Mac Pro
    Reboot Mac Pro

Home Sharing is for something else - sharing media between 2 computers, not one.
There aren't any instructions for home sharing for two accounts on one computer, because you can only have itunes open in one windows user account at a time.

  • Home Sharing Loading Forever and Windows 8

So I thought I'd leave this here since I scoured this site via Google for answers and couldn't find anything that helped.
I could not get iTunes Home Sharing to work on my Windows 8 PC (64-bit) in the last few months. My AppleTV would just sit there and attempt to load the video file forever, making very little progress (if any). I knew the movies played previously and if I loaded them on my wife's MacBook Pro, they'd play fine over AirPlay (something my Windows 8 PC couldn't do either). The AppleTV could see my Home Share (via the Computers app) and my iTunes could see my AppleTV (the airplay icon was visible). My AppleTV could also stream just fine from Netflix, the iTunes Store, and it could do mirroring from iPhones and a MacBook just fine as well. I tried turning Home Sharing on and off. I did both kinds of resets (settings and factory). I unplugged it form the wall. Still no luck. From all this, I could tell my AppleTV was not the issue.
I disabled Windows Firewall (after attempting to clear every possible port iTunes might use through the rules). I added every process to Windows Defender. I disabled IPv6 via Network Settings and the Registry. I made sure Bonjour was enabled (after disabling it and re-enabling it). I checked that iTunes was completely updated (along with the AppleTV). I had every update for Windows 8 installed. I tried older versions of iTunes without luck. I tried turning on and off Home Sharing. I changed the name of my computer. I changed the name of my iTunes library.
I went back to every hardware change I'd made recently. I tried my older wifi usb dongle. No luck. I zeroed in on my new ASUS RT-AC56U router as a possible culprit. I updated its firmware. I changed the network names. I disabled any QoS it may have had running along with any firewalls or protections. I even tried a custom Merlin firmware that others here had suggested made everything work again. I tried running on 2.4 GHz and then 5 GHz, then with one disabled and then the other. I eventually got a family member to let me borrow an Apple Airport Extreme to test with and I still couldn't get any Home Sharing streaming to work. At that point, I had pretty much ruled out any networking hardware as the cause.
So that left something still causing hangups on my Windows 8 PC. It really left me with no other choice aside from attempting a clean install of Windows. All my music, iTunes movies, and iTunes TV shows were on separate hard drives so I bit the bullet and wiped my system drive clean. However, it still wasn't working upon re-installing Windows 8 and the newest version of iTunes.
The only thing I could figure at this point was that I had upgraded to Windows 8 (from 7) sometime last fall. So maybe Windows 8 itself was the culprit?  I knew that Home Sharing was working when I first installed Windows 8. I can't recall exactly when nothing would play but I definitely know that I was able to do Home Sharing streaming initially. But it did get progressively worse since then. Movies would play for half their length and then stop to load. Eventually, nothing would load. But when I tried previous versions of iTunes, I still couldn't get Home Sharing to work. So something deep in Windows 8 had changed that iTunes hasn't adjusted for yet and was preventing Home Sharing from working.
So I did the last thing available to me: I dug out an old copy of Windows 7 and did a wipe and clean install. Lo and behold: Home Sharing is working right off the bat. Very short load times, I could skip ahead, Airplay and Home Sharing working as intended. I went back and re-added everything piece by piece to make sure none of them were going to set me back with video playback.
-Switched out the Airport Extreme for my own router (after setting it up like new...again). My test videos still played! Check.
-Went back to my newer USB wifi dongle. Check.
-Added more non-HD videos to the Home Share. Check.
-Added 720p HD videos to the Home Share. Check.
-Added 1080p videos to the Home Share. Check.
-Windows Firewall is currently active but I'm still Home Sharing just fine.
I'm back up and running on Windows 7 and Home Sharing is working just like I remembered it. I know this isn't much solace to anyone encountering this and trying every fix imaginable from Google. I know I didn't want to flatten and re-install my OS (in fact, downgrading it) to get it working. But something with how recent iTunes or Windows updates are interacting were just completely ruining my home watching experience. It's just so bizarre that it worked in Windows 8 at first but then progressively got worse. And a fresh install of Windows 8 and iTunes didn't set it back to the way it was. It has to be some recent changes between the two that interfered with the process and that neither company has addressed it yet.
I know this will probably get buried among the thousands of other help threads but I hope it does manage to assist someone in getting a better handle on this problem should they face it. And maybe someone from Apple will take another look at Home Sharing in iTunes for Windows 8.

In case anyone is interested, last night I installed Paralells, Windows, Overdrive Media Console on Windows, and then was able to download my book in WMA format. I was hoping parallels would allow me to crossover sync to iTunes on the Mac and have Overdrive recognize that I had iTunes open, but I had to choose Windows or Mac when connecting my phone through the USB and had to choose Windows in order for it to successfully transfer. I was able to get it to work it is now synced to iTunes in Windows. The nice thing was that it pulled in all my music/apps that I had set up in the Mac side, so I didn't have to go through that exercise again. I tested it on my old phone. Now I need to decide if I want to set up my current phone on Windows or Mac, it seems that once synched it only opens the device in windows, I haven't figured out how to force the choice between mac or window again. If I do windows, I can't take advantage of the cloud or iphoto/imovie directly. I'm totally new to mac, but I think I'll have to import my photos manually.

  • Home Sharing doesn't respect Sharing Prefs in iTunes

It might be worthwhile to note - Home Sharing *DOES NOT* respect the sharing prefs in iTunes.  When you enable Home Sharing for several computers in your household, that means all users can access ALL content in your library.
This may not be what you are intending.
For example in my household I have a dedicated mac mini as a media server. From it, I wanted to share movies and music to my Apple TV, as well as personal computers in the house.  I thought Home Sharing is what I wanted.
    Well, yes and no.
I have some content on my personal desktop machine that I may not want the kids having access to - Rated R comedy albums, movies, etc.  I didn't them want to even SEE them (which parental restriction DOES allow, just not playback).  I thought setting the Sharing Preferences in iTunes would set what is available when Home Sharing is enabled. THIS IS NOT THE CASE.
In my instance, you need to enable both iTunes Sharing AND Home Sharing on the media server and turn OFF Home Sharing on all the other computers. This will allow Apple TV to be able to access your media server (it requires Home Sharing). It will also allow other computers access your media server library.  But if you do not want to share everybody's personal libraries, DO NOT enable Home Sharing on the individual computers.
    Rule of Thumb:
If you DO NOT have content you want to restrict from younger members of the household, then Home Sharing is the way to go.
If you DO need to restrict content from individual machines, then use iTunes Sharing instead. (Use BOTH if you are using a centralized media server setup and/or AppleTV)
I hope this helps anyone else running into this sort of scenario.

Tallon321 the lack of names is a "feature" of IOS7.  In the new release they eliminated the name caption for the VIDEOS app in both the "Movies" and the "Home Sharing" views.  They did leave the captions for the new "Home Video" view (you can set the Movie Kind to "Home Video" and downloaded "Home Videos" now have their own view on your device).
    Bottom line, your options are:
    1. Add artwork (with the movie name) to each movie
    2. Change the Movie Kind to "Home Video" and download
Note option #2 doesn't help when using Home Sharing.  Home Sharing now never shows the name caption.  I am not sure why this is considered and improvement.  To me the simplest solution would be to always display name captions for videos without artwork, regardless of which view is being presented.

  • Home Sharing - ever going to be fixed?

I seem to be having progressively more trouble with Home Sharing; for something that should work so simply, it fails much too regularly.
My iTunes library is hosted from an always on machine wired directly into the main network router (Draytek Vigor 2830n). Two iPhones, an iPad and an Apple TV access it wirelessly. (The iPhones & iPad acces directly through the Draytek's built in wireless n broadcast; the Apple TV had trouble with this, so I have an alternative B/G access point connected for devices incapable of Wireless N).
The first problem is the speed - when I select the library it takes a very long time (I'm talking 3+ minutes) before I can browse the shared library, and then thumbnails take an age to load. Once loaded, however, music/video can be started streaming very quickly.
The next issue is the way media is arranged (particularly video) within the Home Sharing environment. TV Shows are arranged by Season rather than by show, and I can find no way to change this. Everything is just called 'Season 1', 'Season 2' etc; so the only way to choose what to watch is to wait for the thumbnails to load.
Then there is the problem when trying to watch a video in iTunes running on a different computer. While SD streams reasonably (still slow to load), the moment you try to watch an HD film, you get the audio track with a string of still frames that change periodically like a slideshow. This despite both PCs being wired directly into the Draytek on Gigabit connections.
And then, of course, there's the fact that Home Sharing just stops working altogether for no apparent reason - almost every day. Just about every time you come to use it, you have to restart the device, close & reopen iTunes, turn off HS and back on again and reboot your PC. Any or all of these can be absolutely necessary just to get to watch a single movie /TV episode, or to put some music on. Yet AirPlay is often unaffected (although not always).
So come on, Apple. I bought an Apple TV to make use of this wonderful idea and save myself £100s on building HTPCs. I've also invested hours & hours converting my media library to MP4 (M4V) , but so far I'm seriously underwhemled.
Unless, of course, anybody has any solutions?

    I had the same issue - http://whrl.pl/RdxWMH

  • TS4526 My Apple TV home sharing is not working though it is set up on my computer. Does anyone know why?

For some reason my Apple TV has stopped connecting to my computer, so we can no longer see movies, photo's etc. The home sharing functionality is on in my computer and we have no wifi issues.
It has been a problem for a couple of months but worked recently when I tried changing Apple ID's, but we now have the same problem.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this issue?
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Power cycle the router and ATV.
    Restart the computer.

  • Sync iPhone from 2 macs using home sharing?

Hi, I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro both with the latest iTunes and the libraries in sync with Home Sharing. I currently sync my iPhone with my iMac, is it possible to sync my iPhone with both macs ? i.e. have all 3 in sync so that I can connect my iPhone to either the iMac or the MBP without the "This iPhone as been synced with another machine" warning every time.

Iphone will sync itunes content and pics with ONE and ONLY ONE computer at a time.
If you sync to another, then it wil first erase the current content.
There is no way around this.

  • Home sharing password

I forgot my home sharing password. I did it a long time ago and cannot remember it. Is there any way I can restore it?
    Tks!

Just to clarify, both machines are on the same local network aren't they I.e. Both at your home and connected to the same router?
If I was you I wouldn't use Shared Libraries but instead use Home Sharing. In iTunes go to Preferences and then the Sharing. Uncheck both Share My Library on my local network and also Look for Shared Libraries, and OK this.
Now follow the instructions in the following article on both machines to enable Home Sharing. Use your iTunes Store username and password where prompted.
