Choosing Softcover Large Book

Hi,
I think I'm missing something here because I have gone through the entire process of setting up a large 8.5x11 book but just as I go to check out I only have the option for Hardcover.
I am choosing- Theme: Modern Lines. Next I choose the book type, large, medium and small. I have printed with the medium and small softcover with no problem.
When I click on the options and prices I can see only the large 8.5x11 is available in soft/hard cover.
The other thing I'm trying to figure out is to have a dust jacket or just have the photo glued on to the cover. Is that something I choose in the two layouts available?
Thanks so much for any help or suggestion,
-Paul

No - Aperture 2 hard cover books have a full color photo printed on the dust cover and a foil stamped hard cover - soft cover books to not have a dust cover as far as I know (I have never purchased one but the specs do not sound like they would)

  • Help! I choose a large book but am stuck at 20 pages!

I'm putting together a new book (not my first time). For some reason, iPhoto has my book stopped at 20 pages even though I chose a large hardcover book when I picked my theme (crayon). I have 168 photos and 20 pages so far. The program is not allowing me to add any more pages. Does anyone know why or what I can do about it??? I need a whole lot more pages, but realize that I can only do up to 100. How do I get the rest of the pages that I need?

Oh Boy - I feel like a loser. I'm still getting used to going from my 17 inch screen to my new iBook 14 inch...I didn't have the iPhoto window large enough and didn't have this option appearing. You'd think I'd know this by now since I've done this quite a few times. It's late, I'm tired. THANK YOU SO MUCH for setting my head straight so quickly!!! Have a great night.

  • Resolution/other  questions in creating books for large books

thinking of getting my first book hard and large 100 pages.
does that mean i have the capacity for atleast 200 photos ( cover back of a page )?
i use 300dpi very high file size images ( 28-60mb) that are not stored on iphoto. I used to make 250-500k jpgs for iphotos so that it would work fast smooth and easy.
If i load my image files into iphoto with the desire to create the largest book, what is the recommended resolution and file size to make the images look their best in the book. I dont understand this whole process because when my images are printed and published in books or magz the requirement is atleast 17.2 MB or higher.
what is the usual file size and resolution that people use in their images to toss into these templates?
    thanks

If you select double sided printing you can have 200 full page photos in the book. More if you use other layouts.
You want to use the largest pixel sized file you have. For a one photo per page layout, full page, you'd want a pixel dimension of 2250 x 3300. That would be equivalent to an 8.5 x 11 inch at 300 dpi. 300 is what the books are printed at.
The frames (picture window) used in the books are sized at a 4:3 ratio. To get your photo to perfectly fill the frame without any cropping, crop your images to 4:3 before putting the in book.
If your photos are a different ratio, they can be used, but some will be cropped from the top and bottom when placed in a frame. You can opt to have the entire image show in the frame but there will be some white space in there also.
My first large book was produced with a camera that gave me images at 1600 x 1200 pixels. Since I didn't have any one photo per page layouts I didn't get any low resolution warning.
The following is a reply I got from Apple regarding book materials and printing quality:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."
As for file size, iPhoto creates a pdf file of the book for uploading and printing. You can preview the file by creating the pdf file yourself. Just Contol-click on a page but not a photo in the book mode and select the Save Book as PDF option.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Images should grow or shrink when the user chooses a larger or smaller font size in ADE.

    Hi All,
I use percentage values (in "width" attribute within "img" element) for image that should grow or shrink when the user
chooses a larger or smaller font size. The adjustment affects not only the size of the text but also images but the images
are getting distorted or blurred when user chooses larger font size in Adobe Digital Editions.
Can anyone, please guide me; how to get non-distorted and non-blur images in epub package?
If I directly use images, without svg format i.e. png or jpg files, then images get overlapped on body-text in two column display in ADE.
    OR
if I directly use jpg or png with width attribute varying in percentage value then image shrinks and grows as user chooses smaller and larger font size but the problem of distorted image remains as it is

    Hi DenisonDoc,
There is no option right now to set properties globally primarily for Text fields. You may make sure fields doesn't contain anything.
Select all the text filed from the form and right click any of the selected field make sure all of them are selected choose properties --> Appearance there you can choose Font Size and Font type.
    - End users cant change size and type of font. It is up to designer.

  • I have, by mistake, caused all my photos in a large book I am making to revert to the original. This after a long time spent editing etc. I don't understand how iPhoto library works. I have aTime Machine. I also have an EHD backed up 2 days ago.

    Yosemite 10.10.3
i am making a photo book with iPhoto, had already started it when Photos superseded iPhoto so I carried on. Have spent a lot of time on it, it's a large book.
BY mistake I caused all the photos to revert to original.
I have Time Machine and I backed up Photolibrary to EHD 2 days ago.
BUt it I don't understand iPhotos library. If I replace existing library from Time Machine,  all my projects, albums etc. be there as they were before my BIG mistake?
I have read that Time Machine is not suitable for back ups of iPhoto so should I try to use my EHD? In finder it just shows 'iPhotoLibrary'. So the same question arises - does the Library incorporate all my projects and the work I've done on them up to the date of back up?
I would be so grateful for help and advice

  • Ruben's Flex Book / Pricope's Large Book

Anybody here have experience with modifying Ruben Swieringa's Flex Book or Miti Pricope's updated version, Large Book (a dynamic version to allow large numbers of pages/content without bogging down performance)?
I need to figure out how to lock/unlock page turns, and to determine the function or event that is triggered when the page is turned... I will search through the classes to find out, but figured I'd post here in case anybody is experienced with it and can save me some time by guiding me where to find this in the package(s).
(I'd like to dynamically enable/disable page turns, and to listen for the page turn so that additional events can occur when the page is turned)
    -- Matt

Okay, I might be able to figure this one out... I found the book events that are triggered and hopefully I can use something like a combination of pageflipEnding and getLastFlippedCorner to be able to figure out whether it was turned forward or back a page...
if that works, I just need to find a way to lock/prevent and unlock page flips (I imagine this will involve setting a flag to allow/disallow mouse over or click events on those areas)...

  • Must I choose music OR books?

iPhone 4 synced with iTunes. No problem. Music set to manually manage. But when I hit the books tab, sync books is unchecked. Checking the box forces a "do you want to sync this phone" warning before it will let me adjust the books. Selecting yes clears my ENTIRE phone as if it were a fresh sync with a new computer. Then I can do what I want with books; but after reselecting manually manage music and adding my music, it's no longer set to sync books! And the process starts again. So must I choose? Why won't it keep my book sync checked when I tell it to manage music manually? Thanks!

In fact, since these new forums, the Illustrator forums have now been combined...but the volume there in nowhere like in the Photoshop ones.
Regarding the PS ones, I guess, it's partly due to the large volume of traffic in these forums with a rather heavy percentage of hardware / OS related issues. Keeping them separate makes it easier for users...

  • InDesign Crashing When Exporting a Large Book

I have a large InDesign book (159 documents) that recently started crashing when I export the whole thing. The book was created years ago, and I can't figure out what would cause this issue all of a sudden. Originally, I thought this was due to the linked cross references I recently added, since it's the only thing that's changed about the book. But I removed all cross references, and I'm still having the same issue. I can export the first half of the book, the second half of the book, or even 3/4 of the book successfully. It's just when I try to export the whole thing that InDesign crashes.
I'm using the latest version of InDesign CS 5.5 on OS X 10.8.2.
I have another discussion posted about this (http://forums.adobe.com/message/5132896), but decided to start a new thread since the other one was focused on the cross references. Toward the end of that discussion, people started suggesting that this was just an issue with my computer--that I don't have enough free space, etc. But I had my company's IT guy watch Activity Monitor while I tried to export the book, and he assured me that my computer is completely capable of completing this export. This makes sense to me since I've always been able to export the book using this computer, and the book hasn't gotten significantly larger or more complex.
One workaround we found was to export the book as an interactive PDF instead of a print PDF. However, I've been battling bolder text on pages with transparency for years, and exporting as an interactive PDF seems to make this issue much worse. (For more info on this issue, see the following thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/421267.)
Is there anyone smarter than me that has a guess as to why I'd be able to export the book as an interactive PDF, but not as a print PDF? I'm hoping this new info will help in troubleshooting the crashing.

Eureka! I re-created the book from scratch, and I can export just fine now. The book file must have been corrupt.
This has been sitting at the bottom of my list of things to try the whole time, but I never thought it would be the solution. Hopefully if anyone else has this issue, they will stumble upon this and try this first instead of last!

  • Choosing between Mac Book and Mac Book Pro??

    Hi,
I need a laptop for school and to do a bit of Photoshop and HTML but i don't no wich Macbook should i choose. Here is why im confuse :
I saw this add of a Mac Book Pro 2.53 (320g 7500rpm-4gig RAM) with apple care for 2500$ new and sealed but im not sure if its what i needed.
On the other hand i tough of buying a bran new MacBook 2.4 (1749 cnd$) and upgrade the RAM to 4 gig wich will cost me 150$ + the apple care.
My question is wich one is better and would you trusted the buy a NEW used Mac Book Pro. The guy said that he has all the receipt and he's selling it because he want to buy a MacPro. Apple give im a new labtop because is older one has to many repair to do.
Awaiting for your comment/suggestion on what you would do.
    Tks

Well, I can only offer my advice as to what I would do. Everyone is different, but here it goes.
If you're not doing anything super intensive (HTML/Photoshop plus your usual web-browsing isn't too intensive) you'll have more than enough computer with the 2.4 MB (even without the RAM upgrade! But it can't hurt to do the upgrade if you're wiling to spend the money).
Personally I wouldn't want to take over someones laptop. Let me ask a few questions about the computer listed and some exchange rates.
2.53 MBP, is that the previous model, or the UniBody. And that $2500 is in Canadian I assume (because the new 2.66 UniBody is $2499 US). If it's the previous model it doesn't even appear to be much of a discount for being used.
My feelings are that the person is getting rid of the laptop for a reason. If they were 100% happy with the product, they wouldn't be looking to upgrade to a new computer.
I'd go with the 2.4 MB if I were you. I'm very happy with mine. It'll be enough computer for at least the next 4 years (if taken care of).
    Hope that helps. Cheers.

  • Iphoto 5-- Large Book with Miserable Printing!

I have ordered 4 large ibooks and have never before had any problems, until now. In the most recent book i ordered, the color is washed out terribly! Some of the images also appear very soft...does anyone know what went wrong? I would like to return the book and have it reprinted, but I don't know how to go about it. I really do not want to keep paying for badly printed books...any thoughts out there?

    Hi Helen,
I just did a test run to see if I had the same problem as you, and I do.
I got an Automator Applescript error. I do remember seeing posts about some Automator actions/workflows being broken with 10.4.3 in the other forums.
Maybe you might find more info by going to one of those forums. I do think that this will have to be a bug fix.
Wish I could have been more help, but I think we are all in the same boat right now.

  • New Themes and Extra Large Book format not working

I can't access the new themes or the new large format book in iPhoto. I have installed the 8.1 upgrade. (I also have installed Snow Leopard).
8.1 seems to have installed successfully, but I still can't get the new stuff, so I tried re-installing it, and was told that the upgrade already exists. I'd really like to use the Tropical theme, and am at a standstill. Anybody with some input?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To reinstall you first need to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Then run the installer and updates and try again.
