Choosing x200t for Linux use

Hi!
I'm planning to get new x200t (tablet) and use it mostly with Linux.
Any suggestions on what components are compatible with Linux?
I guess this new and expensive MultiTouch display won't be supported, so I'm getting SuperBright WXGA.
But what about Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350? Or should I get the 5100/5300?
Is AT&T 3G card supported?
Also - any way to order this (or similar models) with Linux pre-installed (and avoid paying for Windows completely)?
Thanks!

Hello,
i'm using openSuSE 11.1 on an X200t. Unfortunately, all the tablet-buttons are not working. Has anyone working buttons in use ? What linux-distro is used and were there tweaks to be applied ?
Kind regards,

  • Choosing oracle for linux ! what are merits and demerits

we are going to choose oracle for linux for our e-commerce site which will serve as search engin and shopping mall.

    Thanks cgawoods for the advice...
I followed all the steps that you mentioned... Installing the Oracle client proved to be easy as pie on the Linux server, and connecting to the Oracle instance on the NT server was instantaneous with sqlplus... tnsping also finds the Oracle server without a hitch.
I also made the modifications to the coldfusion start script you mentioned, i.e. setting ORACLE_HOME, etc (which is also mentioned in Allaire's docs).
However.... (yes, here it comes) The DSN still comes up as 'failed' when I try to add a new one using the native drivers in the Coldfusion Administrator.
Do I need to do anything on the Oracle server side (NT) first in order to get things working?
I'm pretty stumped at this point as to why this won't work.
    Thanks

If you download the Oracle 8.0.5 EE (RedHat 5.2) or Oracle8i EE(Redhat 6.0-6.2) Server programs, you may use the "Server" installation as an Oracle Client. Once you get Oracle installed, you will need to configure the tnsnames.ora file to point to your remote database. Then, you will need to point Cold Fusion to the $ORACLE_HOME where you installed the Oracle Server software. You will want (and probably need) to use the "native" oracle driver for Cold Fusion instead of the ODBC driver. Once the Oracle installation is complete, and you can "tnsping" the Oracle instance on NT, you should be able to configure Cold Fusion to talk to your Oracle database. It's just a matter of reading Allaire's documentation on configuring Cold Fusion for use with Oracle at that point.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • Sat 3000-601: Needs BIOS for Linux using

    hi
I`m searching for a newer or older BIOS for my notebook.
With the 2.30 TRAD Version, I don`t get the nvidia card to work properly with linux, and with the original BIOS it did.
Perhaps there is a diffent solution for this problem, but I like to test it with an old version.
So can anybody tell me where to download it!?
    Thanks, Florian

    hi Richard
the problem is that, that when the x-server starts the display goes totally black (including the backlight of the display) and that the notebook freezes when I exit the server in any kind (console switching, or when I shutdown) and with certain GLX funktions, used by 3D applications ( I haven't investigated which exactly, because I can't, becouse of a lack of knowledge and becouse the notebook is dead at this point.
So I first tried some tipps from the Nvidia installatoin guide like not using a rivafb-fram-budder-device, or trying some boot options to disable ACPI or to force that the IRQ's are not allocated by the BIOS (which didn't work at all, there where still 5 devices, which shared IRQ 10 and at last I tried so force the Nvidia-module to use its own AGP-device instead the AGPgart-driver in the original kernel.
    But nothing helped.
    Bye Florian
P.S. I thing ACPI is still buggy within the new BIOS Version

  • Where to download OAS9i V1.0.2.2 for Linux RedHat RH6.2(kernel 2.2.16 or later) use?

So that we may better diagnose problems, please provide the following information.
    - Server name:linux1
    - Filename
    - Date/Time: 2/6/2002
    - Browser + Version: Netscape 6
    - O/S + Version: Linux RedHat 6.2 (Kernel 2.2.19, glibc 2.1.3)
    - Error Msg
I am a member of OTN, and I tried to download and test OAS9i for my platform - Linux RedHat 6.2(Kernel 2.2.19, glibc 2.1.3), and I tried to find the related OAS9i product for Linux use from your site "Oracle9iAS Download Options", but I got a confused about those items, I found v1.0.2.2.1 OAS9i image *.cp file there, but there installation guide itself shows that it is for V1.0.2.2 use, that is for Intel Linux use(Kernel 2.2.14 or later, glibc 2.1.3), however, the image *.cp file which could be downloaded is V1.0.2.2.1, is for Intel RH7.1 Linux use(Kernel 2.4.3-12, glibc 2.2.2-10).
So that's very strange, and I want to know that where can I download the *.cp files for Intel Linux RH6.2 use(Kernel 2.2.19 or later, glibc 2.1.3), my platform is RH6.2 because I heart that Intel Linux RedHat's version over 6.2 doesn't be certificated by ORACLE, so I always use Intel RedHat 6.2 as my basic platform, so who can tell me where to download the imgae *.cp files for my platform use? Or any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance!

  • It is possible for linux version to use the same icons of windows and mac version in the navigation bar?

Firefox for linux uses the gtk theme icon in navigation bar, instead mac and windows uses other (trasparent) icons . I find more beautiful icons used in mac and win. Is there any way to force firefox to use this type of icons?

Have you checked the themes add ons? You may find a "Windows 7" theme or something similar!

  • In LabVIEW for Linux, cannot link to a shared library file (.so).

    Hello all,
I'm having trouble using the Call Library Function Node within LabVIEW for Linux (using Ubuntu).  I can configure my Node correctly, and it sees the available function within it with all the proper parameters, but when I close the Call Library Function dialog box it does a quick search and asks me to Find the Shared Library Named "mySharedLibraryName."  If I select it again, it merely repeats this over and over until I cancel.  Has anyone seen this before or know what is causing this?  The .so file was compiled using gcc++ - is there anything specific that should have been included (does it need a header file)?  Could some missing file be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Jason

The elf shared library format is a supported feature of all Linux distributions since about Linux 1.0 or earlier. So it is not really an issue that Ubuntu wouldn't support shared libraries as used by the LabVIEW Call Library Node. Since the Call Library Node seems to be able to see the exported functions during selection of the function it also doesn't seem to be a problem with proper export of the symbols.
This leaves over some dependencies of the shared library on some other shared libraries including C runtime libraries. Was the shared library compiled on the system you try to use it? If not you may have an incompatibility of the C runtime library version used on the system that was used to compile the shared library and your Ubuntu system you try to load it.

  • LabView 8 for Linux application distribution

I have build an application for Linux using labview application builder.
I now have a app.o file, but the application builder does not create a distribution package (unlike the windows application builder where it creates a data.cab that contains the application and runtime engine parts).
How do I distribute the runtime engine components (or know what they are and where they are)?
How do I tell an end-user how to install my program and the runtime engine?
Note:  This application does not interface any hardware.  It reads a file using the command line and writes another file.

If the built application does not use any NI drivers, or NI-VISA then the only other component you will need is the LabVIEW Run-time Engine.  You can download the version of the LabVIEW RTE that matches the version you built the application with from our download site http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/fn/p/sn/n17:runtime,n19:Linux,n23:4/lang/en.
To install your application on another machine you should only need to install the LabVIEW RTE rpm(s) using rpm.:
    rpm -Uvh *.rpm
Then copy your binary file your built with the application builder to the new machine and run it.

  • Cvi for linux and gtk+

Is there any way that I can manipulate UI window settings like titlebar visible (ATTR_TITLEBAR_VISIBLE) via GTK+ or other toolkit in Linux?  Basically, I am trying to manipulate the visual attributes of the UI that are not compatible in Linux such as the titlebar visibility, minimize and maximize buttons hidden, etc...
In windows, I have used the windows SDK to create/manipulate system tray icon menus.  Perhaps there is a similar approach in Linux?
    Thanks for reading,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Pete,
After a little more research, I have found that it is possible to modify these attributes, because CVI for Linux uses the X Window System. To do this, you would be able to get a reference to the X Window System attribute by using the function int GetPanelAttribute (int panelHandle, int
panelAttribute, void *attributeValue) with ATTR_SYSTEM_WINDOW_HANDLE for the panelAttribute. From here, you could use X Window System functions to modify properties.

  • Konqueror browser for Linux has an useful CPU limitation feature for websites using Flash content. Can you add such a feature in Firefox?

I have recently found that Konqueror browser for Linux can help user to limit cpu usage while visiting a website using flash technology by changing settings in the Flash section and adjusting the slider from VERY HIGH settings to HIGH and MEDIUM and so on. It actually works, and it does not have a direct impact on the general performance for flash player but it may generate some conflicts if other extensions such as add-blocker or click-to-flash are enabled also.
Maybe you can add a similar setting in Firefox in the browser option section or just as an useful addon or extension.

Sorry for being late with my reply. I've just tested that addon that you mentioned in your post ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../system-monitor/ ) , it looks like a system monitor and nothing more than that.
As for the memory tip ( about:memory ) I agree that it can be extremely useful for users that have less than 1 gb memory installed on their system. I know very little about computers but I can tell your tip for optimizing memory usage in firefox has merits.
Me, I have another problem with cpu overload in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and most of the browsers with flash support enabled. Each and every time time I visit a page that features all sort of adds and gadgets based on flash technology, and each time I try to watch a video online my cpu goes all the way up to 100% and stays there until i finally decide to close the browser.
I am running winxp and also linux on a Dell Optiplex GX260 machine with 2000 MHz cpu, 1024 Mib ram and 128 Mib video card, it is not the best computer in the world but still 2000 MHz should be enough for a limited and uneventful web experience.
It is not as much an issue with the web browser, any browser, the whole problem is caused by funny people claiming to be deeply involved with web development, and promoting flash technology for ages instead of choosing other alternatives, more user friendly. All I am saying is that flash ruined the entire web experience making people to believe that they actually need dual-core cpu and coreduo and deepfreeze cpu and so on which is only partially true.
I always get better results for cpu usage when watching online videos that use media player as default player and not flash player, and my cpu stays below 70% usage which is not much but still it is not 100% usage.
Konqueror offered me a nice surprise, and I was able to limit cpu usage once I moved that slider from Very High setttings for flash player to Medium settings. I got something between 80-90% cpu usage as a result, and I was very pleased to finally see a working solution to my problem at least for linux if not for windows.
The only other browser that I can use for windows only, which handles both flash player and cpu usage well is Kmeleon browser which is a long forgotten project but does offer nice features once you find some plugins that it needs to make it come to life again.

  • How to create a c++ shared library (.so) for linux real time (for myRio) with Eclipse to use in LabView?

I tried already these Tutorials and Advices but I didn't find a solution:
    - http://www.ni.com/tutorial/14690/en/

    - and some more
I want use c++ codes on linux real time. For testing reasons I want to have a function that adds 2 values and gives the result.
    I've done these steps:
    1. writing a c++ file in Eclipse (see screensot 2)
    2. building a shared library (.so) from my c++ project in Eclipse (with Cross GCC)
    3. putting this file on myRio (path: /usr/local/lib/)
    4. creating a VI that calls this library from Labview with a "Call Library Function Node" (see screenshot3)
    5. Setting the properties for the "Call Library Function Node" (see screenshots 4-7)
After I run this VI i get this error message: LabVIEW:  (Hex 0x627) The function name for the ... node cannot be found in the library. To correct this error, right-click the Call Library Function Node and select Configure from the shortcut menu. Then choose the correct function name. (see screenshot1)
I've tried a lot things to solve this problem but I couldn't find a solution. Would be very happy if anyone can help me. I guess that I have to edit my c++ code to export my function (symbol). But I have no idea how to make it. I also tried it with a dll file in the same folder but it didn't help.
Perhaps someone can send an example which works on myRIO.
    Thanks!
    screenshot1
    screenshot2
    screenshot3
    screenshot4
    screenshot5
    screenshot6
    screenshot7

can see it in the screenshot8 there is a function called "_Z8AddierenddPd" instead of "Addieren". I copied this name to Labview (see screenshot9) and it worked.
I'm sure that there is a way to compile the shared folder with gcc without decorations (mangling). But I don't know how. If someone has a recommendation I would be very glad!
Prepend each function declaration that you want to be available without name decoration with
    extern "C" <your function declaration>
Or if you have multiple functions you want to export you can in the header file where you declare your functions simply use:
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    extern "C" {
    #endif
    <all your function declarations>
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    #endif

VMWare and Parallels have the advantage over BootCamp, that you can use them while still being in OSX, so that you can run Windows/Linux alongside OSX.
With BootCamp you have to restart your Mac each time you want to switch to/from Windows/Linux.
    Please give some feedback.
