Choppy Audio on Tracks After iTunes 8 Upgrade

All the tracks in iTunes now sound choppy. Music fades in and out, sounds scratchy, etc. This happened immediately after upgrading to iTunes 8. Anyone have any solutions?

I am experiencing scratchy audio in iTunes and I believe that it coincides with a fairly recent upgrade. I too thought it was my speakers because the distortion fits the profile or a torn cone or other mechanical speaker issue. But I eliminated everything but iTunes as the cause, since the problem persists with headphones but playing tunes directly in the Quicktime app results in clear sound. The same files sound fine on my iPod.
It is most apparent in certain frequencies, i.e. the vocals in many tracks are the most affected. On some tracks it is subtle and on others unbearable. Mp3s from eMusic, ripped CD tracks and purchased iTunes are all affected.

  • Waveburner won't recognize my M-Audio Fast Track after upgrade to Lion. Any tips?

Doesn't show up in drop-down menu under Audio preferences like it should. Tried restarting the sound card etc etc. Everything works fine in Logic (and iTunes etc. Just not in Waveburner.) I use Waveburner all the time for mastetring and this is a pain. Any tips on a fix or workaround?
    Thanks!

Did that work for you?  I was looking at that too, but was discouraged by having to use a sparsebundle given Snow Leopard had such great NAS support.
FYI to everyone else, I upgraded my ReadyNAS firmware to 4.1.8.  NetGear indicated the following updates with the nre firmware, but it didn't fix this problem:
         New features and enhancements
         1. Added support for Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion”.
         2. Added warning when NFS access to home shares is enabled.
         3. Added a redirect for http://<host>/ip to https.
         4. Added enhancements to advanced AFP permission settings.
         5. Provide download links for exported users and groups instead of asking for email.
         6. Updated ReadyNAS Remote to the latest revision.
         Bug fixes
         1. Fixed javascript error in FrontView.
         2. Delay auto power-off if backup jobs are still queued.
         Limitations
         1. IE 6 no longer supported.
         2. Drives greater than 2TB are not supported.
I found this link which I thought had some useful information: http://carryflag.blogspot.com/2010/06/imovie-event-library-on-network-drive.html
Some people reported success with the terminal command:
defaults write -app iMovie allowNV -bool true
But apparantly, after the Lion update, fewer people reported success with it.  Still looking though... If anyone else has more symptoms to add, please let me know.  I might try to use a sniffer program and see if I can pull a packet capture.  That might reveal some info....
On another note, has anyone had any problems connecting to their Time Capsule in the same fashion?  I had an idea of connecting a USB Raid Array to it and connecting through the TC, but wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts or experience with that....  Thanks.

  • Audio cuts out after 10.5 upgrade

ok, I have a 1ghz G4 17" powerbook. Upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.5 , zapped pram. Repaired all permission etc
When I now play any audio in any application through either my ipod or a file on the HD, through either USB Soundsticks or built in audio, the sound plays for about a couple of seconds and then cracks and stutters/skips and stops playing completely. After the audio stops I cannot play it again and/or track through a song or start another one. Its like the app dies with it. After a couple of seconds I can push PAUSE and then restart another song, but then the same mess happens all over again.
Sometimes the sound keeps playing (with intermittent skips and dropouts) but as soon as I move the mouse or adjust the volume keys on the keyboard, the song skips and stops altogether.
If i dont move the mouse, the song plays in itunes but pops and skips every 20 - 30 seconds. then as soon as I move the mouse to do anything the nightmare begins again.
What I am experiencing is similar to when you are playing audio and doing a huge task in another app where the memory and processor is under serious strain. It skips and stutters and then cuts in and out and finally stops altogether and cant be started again. However I have no other apps even running.
If someone has any suggestions it would be great. A mac without sound is pointless and a disaster for my work.

problem solved thankfully by repeating the upgrade installation. everything is running perfectly now

  • IPod Shuffle no longer works after iTunes 8 upgrade

I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in the iPod Shuffle category so I'll post it in both places. I recently upgraded to iTunes 8 and I'm running OS 10.4.11. I have an iPod shuffle that was purchased new last December so I'm not sure what generation that makes it. It has always worked fine with iTunes 7 but now I can not get it to play. I can sync it with iTunes 8 and see that my songs and podcasts are there on the Shuffle but when I disconnect it and plug in the ear buds I get no sound. Nothing. I've tried to play with the volume, forward to different tracks, pause, play, etc. etc. Nothing. No sound coming from iPod shuffle at all now. It is charged up so that's not the issue.
I should also say that my Shuffle was working fine just moments BEFORE I synched it with iTunes 8 for the first time.
Is there a known issue with iTunes 8 and the Shuffle?
    Thanks in advance.

After searching the forum I finally found that others were having the same problem with the 1st Gen. Shuffle after upgrading to iTunes 7. Even though it was a different iPod Shuffle and iTunes version their solution worked for me.
All I had to do was delete the "Podcasts" folder that had been created for the Shuffle and voila!

  • How to connect apple tv generation 1 after itunes 11 upgrade?

After upgrading to iTunes 11 I lost connection to my Apple TV Generation 1.  I have tried everything suggested in the forums, but was hoping someone has any other suggestions.
This is what I have allready done:
    - Power cycle apple tv
    - Power cycle WIFI network
    - Power cycle PC
    - Disable firewalls
    - Reinstall iTunes
    - Factory restore apple TV
    - Upgraded apple TV genaratio 1 to latest firmware
    - Power cycle everything again...
I confirmed that connectivity is fine.  Apple TV connects to internet (youtube etc.).  Also I can ping AppleTV from my PC.
Again, tried everything I could find on the forums without luck.
Anyone have any other suggestions or troubleshooting steps?
    Thanks in advance!

I was able to fix this by enabling IGMP broadcasting on my router for the IP addresses of the PC with iTunes and the apple tv.  It appears that bonjour uses this and iTunes recognized appleTV immediately.
I did run into another issue.  After upgrading to the latest firmware Apple TV keeps rebooting/restarting...

  • Sony Docking station will no longer play audio on Alarm after ios 7 upgrade

I have read through many of the community postings and hate to have to start a new question when there are over 90,000 that have viewed or commented on this same type issue, but I have tried all the suggestions from community users and they work for a test, but then when you set the alarm for the next day, it flashes and no audio. Why is it that Apple is ignoring this huge customer dissatifaction and why is it that they can do this to the users? I read in one stream that they inserted a software to block any "Non-Apple" product from working with their new software. I have 3 phones in this house that have not been upgraded and they work fine. The two that I upgraded will NOT play the audio. The light will flash as if it triggered the alarm, but nothing triggers the iTunes to play. Originally Apple said it was my Sony device. Wrong! So then they said it was iTunes because they iTunes Radio was in the first/primary slot now and I had not signed up or created a Radio station. They did show me how to go into More options and change the priority to place my own music and playlist in the primary and get rid of the iTunes radio and it worked. Next day it didn't. Then I read that if you plug into an Apple peripherial and then a Non-Apple device, it will again shutdown. So I have started doing the Shutdown step every night when placing it on the docking station, never knowing if the Alarm will play/sound at 4:50 or not. Needless to say, I am NOT getting any sleep as I watch the minutes tick towards the waking hour anxiously waiting to see if the phone Will or Will not wake me. I have also seen people mention removing the "SoundCloud" What the heck is that and how do you do it?

In my Sync vehicle, I had to "forget" the SYnc connection in the iPhone Bluetooth settings, then go into the car menu and delete the bluetooth device from the vehicle's system. Once I re-paired from scratch, it has been working fine. Give that a try. If not, try removing the connection from both sides again, then Reset Network Settings from the General Settings before re-pairing.

  • After iTunes 10 upgrade iPod Classic not identified nor can I restore

Totally lost and don't know how to proceed. I have been using iTunes with my iPhone with never a problem. I received an iPod classic 160GB for Christmas last year and again, no problems, everything has been working great.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I upgraded to iTunes 10 and iTunes works great. I plugged in my iPhone 2G, no problem. I plugged in my iPod Classic 160GB and iTunes freezes, NOTHING happens at all. The album cover pictures don't even display until after I unplug the iPod Classic device.
I can see iPod device in "My Computer" but not in iTunes 10. In iTunes 10 the device doesn't appear at all until I give up and unplug the device. Then an error message pops up and the iPod is shown in the left column. The error says a file is missing and the device can't sync. I can't do anything except click OK. Then the error message goes away and the device drops out of the left column.
I searched for info on this problem, and have tried all of the suggestions.
It charges through USB with no problem except the battery is fully charged.
I tried 3 different USB ports on the PC.
    Tried restarting iTunes.
    Tried restarting the computer.
Went to Apple support website, tried the troubleshooting assistant:
    *Reset the iPod.
*Had already tried different USB ports.
*Had already tried restarting the PC.
*Removed iTunes 10 and all the software programs in the order specified.
*Went to Apple website and Re-installed iTunes.
*ITunes and iPhone still work fine, NO iPod Classic recognition in iTunes.
*Next option is to Restore but CAN'T because iTunes won't recognize the iPod to perform Restore. After reading the instructions, it appears that the iPod has to be connected to do this, and that's the problem -won't connect!
Is there anyone who can help? This didn'thappen until installed iTunes 10.
The iPod has 120GB of music on the device. The device is still working fine. I just can't get iTunes 10 to recognize the iPod Classic device.

After upgrading to iTunes 10, when I tried to connect my 80GB iPod Classic to my Mac Book Pro, the iPod was not recognized by either my computer or by iTunes. It would say "Connecting" on the iPod, but then it would click and show the Apple icon for a few seconds, then the cycle would repeat.
I finally decided to start the iPod in Disk Mode and then connect to my computer. When I did that, it would connect to my iTunes and I was able to sync.
I then went to Disk Utility and verified and repaired my iPod disk (no problems and nothing to repair.) On one discussion, the person then erased everything from his iPod and then restored. Rather than do that, I disconnected my iPod and re-connected it in the standard mode. This time, it was recognized by iTunes and I was able to sync.
Tried it again this morning and again it was able to sync. The next time, it may not, but right now it appears that might be a possible solution.

  • After iTunes 9 upgrade iPod Classic is corrupt without ability to restore

I am upset right now, so this will seem a bit harsh. I do not really care if this has been posted, it needs to be said again.
I upgraded my Windows Vista x64 PC to iTunes 9 today and attempted to sync my iPod Classic 80GB to iTunes. It failed and it became apparent after doing some searching online that the hard drive was corrupt. After connecting my iPod to the PC again, iTunes told me that the iPod was corrupted need to be restored. After downloading the update and extracting it, the iPod restore process begins and then fails.
I've tried to restore my iPod on Mac and Windows, and I've tried all the recommendations from Apple regarding the error that I get, something about the restore failed due to an unknown error 1439. Thanks Apple for unknown errors.
This is a relatively good condition iPod that is slightly out of warranty and I need to know what I can do to get it repaired. It worked just fine this afternoon and I've never had a problem with it, ever. I know it's a functional iPod I just need a restore but it won't work for me.
Will the Apple Store nearest me help me with this, or will they tell me to take off b/c it's out of warranty????
    Questions needing answers.
Thanks for any and all help.
    -Matt

I stumbled onto this thread after I hooked up my iPod video to try and synch it. I too got the "Corrupted iPod" message. I usually don't eject my iPod, as it doesn't disconnect from Windows cleanly. After going through a few steps, I have my iPodsynched & ready to go. (Perhaps it's just a bug in the new version of iTunes, which I have to admit is more aesthetically pleasing).
I clicked the "Eject iPod" button in iTunes.
I selected "USB Mass Storage Device" from the safely remove hardware wizard
I reset the iPod (Switch to HOLD & back, then hold down MENU & center buttons until screen turns off)
    Unhooked iPod from data cable
    Hooked iPodback up
    iTunes recognized and synched...
I don't know if this will help anyone, but I'm hoping that it will. Post back letting everyone know if it succeeds or fails.

  • Album Art Screensaver does not work after iTunes 9 upgrade

After I upgraded to iTunes 9 my album art screensaver no longer works. I get the message saying "Your iTunes library does not contain any songs with artwork". I have tried deleting the plist files per another support topic, but this doesn't fix the problem. Ideas?

This is the Tiger forum - you are running Snow Leopard!
But I would suggest you post your question in the iTunes forum:

  • Playlist after itunes 11 upgrade

I just upgraded to itunes 11, and my playlists are gone.
    Where did they go?
Also, where is the cover flow?

Playcounts are definitely being erased (I'd lost them on hundreds of songs), often for the same songs itunes unilaterally changes genre disgnations on (and the genre designations are changed a second and third time if I "dare" to override itunes' change and go back to the genre I set).  I've even seen it change the album name and track number change for a track or two.  They want everything to match what's in their store, even though they were the ones that designed a media player that encouraged us to organize things our own way and make changes.  Oh well, hours upon hours worth of effort and many years of effort down the drain in Apple's snap of a finger.  They decided to go in a new direction and we're all casulties.
I've blocked the itunes store, turned off genius, and told itunes it can't tell Apple the contents of my library under preferences.  Hopefully that'll stabilize things a little, even though it means I lose a lot of features (And Apple loses my business for buying new songs- already I was mostly buying from amazon and google due to lower prices, now it'll be all the time because I don't dare risk connecting to the apple servers to access the itunes store).  I can never get the playcounts back for those songs it erased them from, though.  I don't know what they were, and there are too many songs with no playcount for me to sit there manually playing them over and over again anyway, and it'd reset the last played date on them.  It screws up my whole system- smart playlists, and also makes the playcounts that remain less relevant (Because some songs are starting from scratch now- so I can't compare them anymore and really know what is most played and least played and where something falls since 2008 when I went digital with my music collection.).
This is just sad.  An end of an era.  Some stuff we'll never get back even if Apple fixes it's system.
I mean, I'm kind of poor, so I don't have a Mac or an iphone or anything, becasue those products are so expensive and sometimes require credit or expensive service plans.  But I loved my itunes and my trusy ipod classic.
    *sigh*
I don't even know if there is a physical music player out there other than the classic that'll hold 90+ gigs of music.  Certainly my Android phone won't.  And I'm not sure if there is software that's stable and reliable with the features I want and the ability to sync with my classic.
We've all been abandoned in favor of the next big thing.  Apple is trying to make everyone's collections match what Apple wants, because ultimately Apple wants to push everyone into a subscription cloud service.  Wait and see if I'm wrong.  I don't think I am.  It's coming.

  • Audio not working after Windows 10 upgrade (Lenovo G780)

After my upgrade to Windows 10 on my Lenovo G780, it seems like my audio isn't functioning anymore. I tried to plug in my headset as well to check if I had audio coming through that, but it does not appear in the Playback Devices window when plugged.  The laptop comes with Conexant SmartAudio HD and also lists High Definition Audio Device under Device Manager.  Could anyone help me out and let me know if there's some problem I am overseeing.  I found a page that has some Conexant software for windows 10 but I am not sure if they are updated drivers or if they even support my machine (the page does not list support for G780). Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Well, it has been a long road on the Win 10 upgrade. At first I got the same error message as above, but after deleting the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 in Win 10 using Control Panel Programs and Features and rebooting, I got into the continual BSOD upon reboot. Here are the steps I took to at least get stable on Windows 10. First, I rolled back to Windows 8.1 using the advanced feature in the BSOD recovery options. Once back in Win 8.1, I deleted the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Then I downloaded the Win 10 update and re-installed it. Once that completed, I updated the Intel Graphics driver under the display adapters (on my G780 it is an Intel HD Graphics 4000, and the driver can be found at  https://downloadcenter.intel.com/). Currently I am running version 10.18.10.4252 for my machine. Then, under the Device Manager, I updated the Conexant SmartAudio HD driver under the Sound, video, and game controllers. That driver is currently at 8.66.4.50 and was automatically downloaded from the web when I requested to update driver.  I also changed several others settings such as Notify to schedule restart after updates are installed instead of automatic (under Settings --> Update & Security --> Advanced Options) and Do you want Windows to download driver software and realistic icons for your devices? --> No, let me choose what to do, never install driver software from Windows Update.  After that, I shut down the machine, waited a moment and booted back up. I have no idea why this helped or if it is overkill, but I am stable and running without a fear of rebooting now. Hope this helps if someone else is having this same issue.

  • Genius mixes erased after iTunes 10 upgrade

After I upgraded my iTunes to v.10 all my genius mixes were erased and I cannot create it again. Anyone could help me?

  • Lost embedded album art after iTunes 11 upgrade

I just spent 6 months embedding album art into my music files and movie files.  Pre-iTunes 11, all album art was displayed.  After upgrading to iTunes 11, every album and movie starting with the letter A and B has no album art.  I used purchased Mac apps to embed album art into my files, so I know it is there.  Can somebody from Apple please fix this bug?  Maybe in the next iTunes update, can Apple fix the issue with iTunes not showing embedded abum art.  I am not talking about added album art, I am talking about purchasing an App to use and actually embedding album art into my music and movie files from my own personal purchased content.  Please somebody look into this and fix in the next update?  If I got into Finder and navigate to my iTunes music/movies folder, the movie/music file is there with the embedded album art.  So, this proves to me that there is a bug in iTunes 11 that prevents it from displaying album art for every piece of content that starts with the letter A and B.  Please fix?

I have the exact same problem. I've found that for movies, if I choose "Get Info" for each movie and then click on the "Artwork" tab, my cover art is still there and I just have to select it and it restores it for the movie. I haven't checked with music, as most of my music art is fine. This is a pain as I have a couple hundred movies that I have to do this for (uuuggghhhhh), but at least it's a fix.

  • No stereo sound after iTunes 8 upgrade

    Newbie here.
I upgraded to iTunes 8. ITunes see my remote hifi system via Airport Express but there's no sound from the remote speakers. However I have sound through same system using my laptop with iTunes 7.
Would greatly appreciate help to solve this problem.

    Hello, wongjai.
You might be better off posting this problem over in the AirPort for Windows forum here on the Apple Discussions.
    Good Luck!

  • Lost all songs after iTunes 7 upgrade

    Hi there,
It seems that I was a little too quick in updating this time. iTunes 7 seems to suck !!!
After having several problems with installing Quicktime during installation I finally got everything installed only to find iTunes completely empty !!! Now there are MANY hours of work put into having this program the way I wanted it - any ideas on how to get back to the good old days???
I tried System restore, but that didn't work...
    TIA
    Jan

It's quite simple. You have your files stored in a different folder than the default one.
In iTunes click on Edit -> Preferances
    Click on the Advanced tab
Change the iTunes music folder location.
Follow the prompts to reload most of your old music.
I say most because a few of my purchased items dissapeared, not all and I was able to get all but one back from apple. The one I couldn't get they basically told me tough s*t on.
