Choppy Export in HD

Just so all of you know, I really appreciate your expertise and tried researching this topic, but the thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10994115&#10994115 just didn't really help me with my issues.
I have a two minute project shot in 1920x1080 (frame rate: 60). I imported the AVCHD and edited and it looks great when I play it back in FCE4 (in the canvas window). But when I export it using QuickTime Movie Conversion and then try to play it on my computer, the movie is choppy.
The Easy Setup is set at AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60.
And for the QuickTime conversion export, I have the following settings:
Compression Type: H.264
Frame Rate: 60 fps
Key Frames: every 24 frames
Compressor Quality: Best
Data Rate: Automatic
Export Size Dimensions: HD 1920x1080 16:9 (1888x1062)
Frame reordering: yes
Encoding mode: multi-pass
Can anyone help me so I can export a nice, clean, crisp HD movie onto my computer hard drive so that it looks like the playback in FCE4 before export?

It was better, but still a tiny bit choppy in places where there was fast movement. Maybe I should try it at even less, like 25 or 24
I was surprised that I couldn't find anything in my camera's manual on fps, so I had to search the specs online. The specs on my JVC GZ-HD320 camera say that "it maintains native 1920 x 1080 resolution through playback, enabling output of a 1080p 60 fps progressive signal to make the most of high-end HD displays." I also read on another review that "The HD320 records video in either 30 fps or 60 fps." In the manual, I did find that the bit rate it uses is 24 Mbps.
I am sorry because I assume all of the above sounds very amateur (and it is!), but I really appreciate your help. Does any of the info above suggest what frame rate I should be exporting at (24, 25, or 29.97)? Thanks for your patience.

  • Choppy export- only on one specific section of video

I've exported video from this project before, at H.264 1080p 24 fps and it has worked perfectly fine. I used the same exact settings to export this small 1 minute section, and with video taken from the same source as previously, yet now the export is choppy as all hell. What could possibly be going on?

i believe there are some bugs with avchd/mts in different versions, i dont really remember. looks like there is an update to cs6, to 6.0.5. might be worth trying. also make sure you have service pack 1 installed for windows.

here is a way to force cs6 to use your video card. if you get it working, it will help a good deal with editing and faster rendering. it shouldn't make a difference for this choppy export problem, but if you get it working can try switching to it...

  • Choppy Export Video - Export Settings, Sequence Settings, Capture Settings

    Hi all,
New to this forum and new to Final Cut Pro. Please forgive me if I ask bonehead questions... Please humor me and help me solve my problem.
    First off... Equipment
    CPU:
    12" Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz
    ~1.25 Gig RAM
    Camera:
    Canon GL2
    Problem:
When exporting video, it comes out choppy... as in three to seven frames per 45 seconds of video. The quality of the images is also poor, with horizontal lines where there is movement of the subject. The audio turns out just fine.
    What I am doing now:
    Capture:
MiniDV through FireWire - DV NTsc 48 khz
The footage looks good while editing... smooth
    Exporting:
I have tried quite a few different settings using the Quicktime Conversion.
Ultimately, I would like to export video for the following uses:
-Full-Size .mov Files burned to DVDs to play in Quicktime (also .avi)
-DVD quality for putting together DVDs that will play on a DVD player
    -Web upload
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help...
    -JBH

Not 'bonehead' but certainly basic stuff...
Full size to put on data DVD:
Two options (one of which is NOT avi): File - Export - QTMovie - Current Settings - Selfcontained. This is the highest resolution you can export of your cut film. However, it will be a HUGE file size and you will only be able to fit a limited number of minutes on a 4.x gig dvd disc. Second option is to File - Export - QTConversion... Choose the highest quality from the dropdown menu and hit export. This will end up smaller... but will indeed have a 'quality' loss due to compression. Do take them OFF the disc when playing on a computer as they will choke during playback from the disc itself.
Export for DVD Player to TV (and DVD Player on Computers):
File - Export - QT Movie - Current Settings - not selfcontained. Take THAT file to COMPRESSOR and use the export presets for your length of movie. I like the 90 minute high quality 2 pass version for anything 90 minutes or less - I stay away from the 60 minute one. Do make sure you export the ac3 audio too. This will give you two files that you need to take to DVDSP to put together and build a DVD with. (else you can take the exported file before compressor and drop it into iDVD if you want). The quality will STILL be compressed, but is what it is for 'dvd quality' on a mac.
    Web Upload:
File - Export - QT Conversion... pulldown to Broadband High. I like that setting as is, but if I'm working with anamorphic material I'll need to hit the OPTIONS button and change the size (480x270).
Looks like this and is 3-5 megs per minute: http://web.mac.com/captmench/Site/ThreeBoysMovies/Entries/2006/7/20_Entry1.html

  • FAQ: Video choppyness on exporting and playback on QT750

    Summary:
    * Under QT7.5.0, there is known incompatibility issue b/w QT7.5.0 and Perian 1.1.
    Issue:
    * choppy playback and also choppy export
    Root cause:
    * Seems to be Implementation change in QuickTime 7.5.0; it could cause incompatibility with third-party components.
    * I hope QuickTime itself would correct this issue in next release.
    Remedy:
    * If you do not require Perian 1.1. functions, I recommend you to remove Perian 1.1 for now.
    * If you require Perian 1.1 functions like avi/mkv importer, ac3 playback etc., it is better to install avc1Decoder with Perian 1.1.
(avc1Decoder overrides Perian 1.1's avc1 media playback feature gracefully)
    Test export sequence:
    * DV-NTSC.mov -> H.264.mov -> H.264(again).mov
    This issue should happen on:
    * Perian 1.1 decoder + Apple H264 Encoder (or any encode component)
This issue should not happen on:
    * Apple H264 Decoder + Apple H264 Encoder (or any encode component)
    * avc1Decoder + Apple H264 Encoder (or any encode component)
    * Perian 1.1 + avc1Decoder + Apple H264 Encoder (or any encode component)

Now that everything is working, make a full drive image to an external USB hard drive

  • Can I change an exisitng project's Preset?

Let's say I made an egregious error in not paying attention to the Project Preset when creating a New Project. Long story short: the output is incorrect. I have identified the correct Preset for the footage I have, but when I view the file's Project Setting, the Preset is shown but is greyed out. I have made extensive cuts and other editing in the file and would not like to start over.
How can I change the Preset for an existing Project (since it is greyed out) or if this cannot be done, how can I import the editing from this existing Project into a new project (with the right preset this time)?

Clipmate for PRE is not the most intuitive, but here are instructions:
Choppy export video, DNxHD Codec 24fps 1080p
I suggest you use the clipmate trial first to ensure it carries across everything you want it to.

  • Clips exported with Media Encoder from AE are choppy (CS6)

    Hi!
I'm using Media Encoder (6.0.3.1) to export clips from AE (11.0.4.2) so that I can work with them in PPro (6.0.5).
In Media Encoder I go to add AE composition and I've tried the YouTube HD 1080p 25 and the Broadcast HD 1080p 25 presets (the latter creates a much bigger file but I don't think the file size is the issue - for example, the biggest clip of approx. 1 mintute is 276MB).
The curious thing is that most of the clips that are exported are fine, i.e. they play back fine - the problem is that some of the clips go slow or choppy towards the end of the clip. So the last couple of seconds will be choppy. It basically looks like the frame rate isn't quite right.
Once exported from Media Encoder, I import them into PPro to do some more work - the problem with the clips is apparent when I play the original file in VLC (for example) or in PPro. So it seems like the problem occurs during the export from AE. When I export the video containing the AE clips from PPro the problem is obviously still there (wishful thinking on my part). I use AE just for keying and making some basic titles, nothing massively complex.
I had some problems with RAM preview in AE before, in other words, it wasn't playing the clips back in realtime and the exported clips with the problem look exactly like that (i.e. looks like the frame rate isn't right). I deactivated Enable Disk Cache in AE (Multiprocessing was already deactivated) and now I can play back clips ok in AE using RAM preview - even the ones that go choppy towards the end when they are exported with Media Encoder play back fine in AE.
Could Media Encoder be going back to some previous render files saved somewhere on my system and could that cause some of the exported clips to go choppy?
I'm new to Adobe so I'm just guessing here and I don't want to go about and delete stuff that might not have anything to do with this problem. As I've adopted the computer I'm working on from my predecessor and it's had several users since, the system is a bit of a mess and there are files all over the place. Empting the Disk Cache doesn't actually delete anything for example.
I'm really stuck here because I can't finish the projects I started working on with AE.... I would appreciate someone's input!
    Many thanks in advance!
    My system specs:
    Intel Core i7-3930K, 3.20GHz, 16GB RAM, 64-bit operating system, GeForce GTX 680, Windows 7, Creative Suite CS6
Before using Media Encoder to export clips from AE I was just relying on Dynamic Link between AE and PPro by the way and that made all of the clips choppy for the whole duration (this was before I solved the RAM preview problem and I haven't checked if a working RAM preview would make a difference to dynamic link). So Media Encoder nearly solved the problem. I posted this original problem on creativecow (http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/1045810) but no one has gotten back to me about the new issue unfortunately.

    Thanks for your reply!
I tried using Quicktime with PNG and it created a big file (1.18GB for a 1 minute long clip) that doesn't play back nicely in PPro unfortunately. But I then tried rendering the clip using a lossy format, H.264, in AE and it's playing back ok in PPro! I will just do that for the rest of the clips and hope that this is finally resolved. Many thanks for the tip!
Out of curisoty, do you know what might be causing the problem when I use Media Encoder?

  • PP CS5 Video Exporting as choppy.  HELP!

I am running PP on a MacBook Pro with the i7 processor.  I have edited and exported a ton of videos with no problems- most of them include projects from After Effects as well.
Video's are shot using a 7d,5dmk2, and contour camera.
I am mixing some 24p and 60p footage- but interpreting properly and haven't had issues before.
I am using the following plug-ins:
    Colorista 2
This edit is the first time I have used Twixtor
I am now working on another video and now running into major issues on export.  On export of this video it is so choppy I can't watch it.  The export is in h.264.  I have tried exporting as Vimeo HD and Youtube widscreen HD.  It plays perfect on my machine in Premiere Pro prior to export.
    Anybody have any ideas?

You're rendering to a lossless codec which is the default.
Please read the help section on rendering and export. Press F1 then look at the 3rd from the bottom heading. Click there and read. Especially the choosing formats section.
I can't tell you what codec to use unless I know what you are going to do with the video.

  • Choppy and lagging playback from videos/animations exported from Cs4 (Media Encoder)

    Hello!
I got Creative Suite 4 (Production Premium). I usally uses AE and PrePro, saves the project and uses Media Encoder to export the footage. My filmcrew got a Sony HDR-200 (I think) who saves in AVCHD, m2ts full HD.
First I edit the clip with Sony Vegas... Cut the things I do not want.
Then, I applie visualFX with After Effects and sometimes Premiere Pro. Saves the project. Fire up Adobe Media Encoder and selects "add After Effects Composition".
    I always render in:
    H.264
    HDTV 1080p 25fps
    PAL 16:9 Ratio
    The Video was/is original i:
    Sony AVCHD (m2ts)
    1080p 25fps
Everything seemes ok. No error messages or anything like that.
Next step, I import the footage (from any Cs4 application) into Vegas, Movie Maker or whatever software.
The whole clip, is "choppy". Frames mixes together. The footage is choppy even in Windows Media Player, Winamp... Not just Vegas...
Example: My actor is going to stand up from the couch. While rising, several frames from when he sat and when he has risen appears. The mixes, last ca. 2 frames each.
Summary: All Cs4 products exports choppy video... Media Encoder or not... Same problem.

  • Choppy video exports

Hello, I am using a late 2009 Mac mini with 8gb memory and a 2.53 ghz intel 2 core duo. My final cut pro X projects look fine until i export them. I export using h.264 and the video is choppy but the audio is fine. How do i fix this?

what is the size of your exports? and are you viewing the results from the internal drive of the mac mini? Sometimes very large files can stutter on playback coz the computer cant handle them.

  • Overlap transitions choppy after exporting 'Full Quality' QuickTime

I have a movie created with images and music, no video. I used the overlap transition between each image. All images have a slight Ken Burns effect. Then I exported to Full Quality Quicktime to bring into iDVD. I originally tried to export right to iDVD and the resolution was horrible but the transition were fine. Now I have great resolution but the transition is choppy. It's almost like the frames per second dropped during the transition. Don't know what to do to fix it.

I have solved ALL my issues!! At least with this project. I had 3 issues with this project: low res on final output, flickering in the images while using Ken Burns effect and not so smooth transition issues.
I changed my video format to HDV 1080i. I was able to use my lower res untouched images (before I put a .6 Gaussian blur effect on the images to reduce the amount of flickering and saved them as high res TIFFs). I did have to change to widescreen format, but I think my client will see that as a cool factor. I'm so happy I could cry!!! It took me a week to get it figured out, but I learned A LOT about iMovie during that time. Now I have a bunch of project ideas flying through my head. I'm going to enjoy my happy moment for a little while. I still do not know why iMovie was doing the weird transition thing in the iSight format. I think I'll stick with the HDV.
    Thanks for the help!

Are you running the 9.0.1 Update of the program and on what computer operating system is it running?
Is your video card/graphics card driver up to date according to the manufacturer of the card?
Is your computer optimized, including maintenance of pile ups of preview files, conformed audio files, and conformed video files?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
What are your project settings and what are the properties of your source media? When you say that "used to be able to export...." is that on the same computer, same brand/model/settings for the camera recording the video now in use, same Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
Where player are you using for the playback of these exports?
Please give us more details on the size of the projects (then and now) as well as details of the customized export settings in your Share/Computer/ route. Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 is only a 32 bit application running in 32 bit or 64 bit system. Not sure if computer resources might be taxed more so now than before.

  • MP4 exported from Premiere Pro CS6 runs choppy on some computers . . .

I have a video clip that was rendered as a .mov file in AfterFX CS6.  I uploaded it to youtube exported as a 1080p HD MP4 (target bitrate 12, max bitrate 12, VBR, 2-pass) that runs OK on my computer at any resolution, and runs OK on my iPad and 47" TV, but runs choppy on my laptop, and a friend's computer.  My computer is a Dell running a Haswell i7, with 24GB of memory and an Nvidia Quadro 2000 video card.  My iPad is Gen 4, my laptop is a Lenovo with i5 cpu and 4GB ram, and my friend is running a first generation i7 920 (overclocked) with 12GB of ram.  On my computer and iPad, http://youtu.be/lMg-YsVMZHg runs smoothly at any resolution, and the same file runs smoothly on my 47" LED TV from a USB 2 thumb drive.  It runs choppy and stutters on my laptop and my friend's machine at even low res.  The same file runs a lot smoother with some very slight judder when plugging the thumb drive directly into my laptop and running full screen.  What suggestions do you have?  Is this a bitrate problem, and what should work with all machines?
    Thanks.

The tutorials are downloaded as a zip file then extracted; I don't actually screen record the tutorials while streaming or anything.  I guess I couldn't say if variable frame rate was used when they recorded the tutorials, but the media I have shows up as 30fps as opposed to some sort of non-traditional frame rate that often shows up when recording with something at a variable frame rate (like the stock iPhone video camera app).

Apple did not want to become the next Napster to go down "lawsuit lane"....... then Apple came out with the AAC, telling us it was for better quality than of mp3, but also behind the scene, they were also imbedding songs on their site, with "copyright" features that prevented user from other computers to share and or play songs not purchased ligit.
Apple did not develop the AAC format. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdvancedAudioCoding
AAC was developed with the cooperation and contributions of companies including Dolby, Fraunhofer IIS, AT&T, Sony and Nokia, and was officially declared an international standard by the Moving Pictures Experts Group in April 1997
For details of the improvements over mp3, have a read of the above link. I suspect the reason Apple chose the AAC format is the lower licence fees and the better quality and lower bitrates.
AAC's (like mp3 and wmv) can be DRM protected, and this is the format that most of the tracks sold in the iTune store use.
So mp3 are safe with iP4. But as you upgrade to iP5 or 6, and iTunes 6 or 7..... I beleive iTunes becomes smart and prevents you to even play mp3 or use them with Quick time if they have the DRM (copyright feature) I have encountered this problem before when I attempted to upgrade my iTunes.....and immediately, I reverted to iTunes 4.2... and it allows me to put songs on my QT files.
This is untrue. You can use DRM protected material with later versions of iPhoto and iTunes, within the limit of the DRM, of course. And you can use any unprotected material.
There might be other reasons (beyond my knowledge) why mp3 and or mp4 (AAC) do not play in QT in higher iTunes version.....
They do play, perfectly well. It sounds like you have a problem, but it's usually sorted out by having the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime

  • Export plays choppy. What did I do wrong?

*I'm new to PremierePro and I don't know much about video editing, I've learned only what I need to know to do the projects I've done.  Previously, I used iMovie11*
I exported my project, and opened it in Quickbooks 7 to view it before I uploaded it to YouTube.  It plays very choppy and I don't know what I did wrong.  Here are some details:
    Mac OSX 10.9.1
    Premiere Pro CS6 Creative Cloud
My project is a 3-minute sports highlight video.  It needs to be posted up on YouTube by TODAY.  I've been working on the video for 30+ hours, and on the export process for 5+hours.
The clips I used are from various sources: Nikon D3200, GoPro, and professional video (hired a guy), and some are clips from a previously created highlight film that the client's school sent me to use (.mov and .mp4).  I did not know anything about frame rates before today. In my troubleshooting, I've learned a little, and I checked the frame rates of the clips in my project.  Some are 23.97, some are 29.97, and the GoPro clips are 59.97.  The clips are meticulously timed to a music track and spoken interview with music in background.  Some of the clips from the videos the school sent me are in slow motion (which I've timed the music to), but my original clips are all at normal speed.  The clips from the GoPro seem to be sped up (which I've timed perfectly to the spoken interview) but I didn't do anything to change their speed (59.97fps).  The video is just over 3 minutes long.  The playback in Premiere (in the upper right window) is perfect.
My goal is to have a nice quality video on YouTube.  It's critical.
I have tried exporting a couple of different ways, and have the same choppiness.  I'm nearing the end of another go-round export, and will soon know if that made a difference but I doubt it.
Before I exported, I "rendered" the project and the audio.
    My export settings are:
    H.264
preset:  I've tried YouTube 29.-- 1080 (whatever that preset is exactly?) and Custom setting (where I changed the target bitrate and the max bitrate)
    Video:
    aspect- square pixes
    NTSC
    Profile- Main
    Level- 5.1
    Checked "render at Max depth"
    Bitrate Settings:
    VBR.2 pass
Target bitrate: I tried it at 45, and currently experimenting with 50
    Max Bitrate:  300
    Key Frame Distance: 90
    Checked "Use maximum render quality"
    Summary: 1920x1080(1.0), 29.97fps, Progressive VBR, 2 pass, Target 85Mbps, Max 300Mbps, AAC, 160kbps, 48kHz, Mono
    Source Sequence: 1920x1080 (1.0), 29.97 fps, Progressive, 0:03:24:03, 44100Hz, Stereo
Each time I've exported and experimented with different settings, it takes about 40 minutes.  I could do this all day, but I'm wondering if my problem lies in the variable frame rates of the clips within the project.  I really hope not.  As I said, everything is meticulously timed to the audio..  The playback in Premiere is perfect, not choppy.
Repeat:  I'm a beginner.  I grew out of iMovie and I'm now learning as I go on Premiere Pro.  Please understand that I don't know what most of these terms even mean (frame rate, bitrate, encoding, key frame....).
PS. recent export complete.  still choppy regardless of the changes I made (I checked "match source" and changed target bitrate from 45 to 300)

    >opened it in Quickbooks 7
Huh??? You opened a video file in a checking program?
    >wondering if my problem lies in the variable frame rates of the clips within the project
No version of Premiere, Pro or Elements, will PROPERLY edit a variable frame rate video
Adobe/Jive have a BAD title for the SEARCH THIS FORUM function
