Choppy Flash Animation - Mac issue??

I have attempted, with no luck, to get an answer to the following question on adobe.com and flashkit.com. I'm hoping there may be a "Mac" solution. When I attempt to view Flash files either locally or on the www, my machine comes to a virtual crawl; not just the Flash animation, but every app that is open at the time. And, this happens regardless of the browser that I use (Safari, Firefox or IE). I purchased a product called "Cocktail" and ran all applicable fixes on there. I also ran disk utilities from my startup disk which found some errors and repaired all. I uninstalled Flash Player and reinstalled the latest version. I trashed a ton of useless files to see if freeing up disc space would help. It didn't. I can view Flash files just fine on my daughter's little PC with 500+ megs of RAM, but my 4 gig dual processor G5 never gets up to speed. This problem just seems to have started within the last week. Again I emphasize that the computer behaves the same when I run the Flash file(s) locally, so I've ruled out this being an "internet" issue. Plus, my daughter's computer is on the same network and runs these files fine. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I run a web design business from my home, and need to have my machine screamin' to keep the checks coming in.
Thanks in advance -

Check your Activity Monitor once and see what your CPU usage is doing. Also, try running Xbench and see what your graphic score is. Compare scores here.

  • Flash animations in Captivate look choppy

I am using Flash animations in Captivate 3. The animations
are published to Flash Player 6 before being embedded in Captivate.
The Captivate project is in turn published to Flash Player 9.
The animations look good in the published Captivate SWF when
I run the SWF directly in Flash Player. However, if I run the SWF
in a browser (I tried both IE & Firefox, having Flash Player
9.0.45.0), the animations look very choppy and slow. What could be
    the reason?
    Regards,
    Mohsin

    Kevin & Rick,
Thanks for your responses. I diagnosed the problem. It did
not have anything to do with frame rates.
What was actually happening is that my Captivate SWF was
1024x768 originally, but when opening it in an HTML, I was NOT
loading it at 100% of its size. Instead, I was loading it at
880x660 in the OBJECT tag of my HTML, which was causing the issue.
Even when I would open the SWF directly using IE, IE would resize
the content in order to display it completely, thereby causing the
animations playing within to rescale. This, somehow, made them look
    choppy.
    Cheers!

  • Watching flash animations on mac mini

to anyone reading this, please bear in mind my computer literacy is kindergarten level. i've just bought a mac mini. i transferred some flash animations that i did on my old computer by using a jump drive. they wouldn't play, because it didn't have an application selected. i clicked on quicktime, (the wrong guess evidently) and now i want to somehow deselect that, and find the right application to watch and work with these animations. anyone know what i need to do? also, as a general question, if i try to open up something i've transferred from a pc, how can i figure out which application to use?

You need an application that can play Flash files. I believe that Firefox can ;lan them as can Safari. If you are looking for a stand alone player maybe one like this: http://mac.eltima.com/freeflashplayer.html can help.
I don't know much about flash. I do know that Adobe makes software for creating and playing flash files so maybe there is something available on their site.
You might try dragging the flash file onto the Safari icon in the dock. Safari should be able to play it.

    Hello,
This morning we resolved a problem that prevented Flash Player installations from completing for some of our Macintosh users.
If you encountered this problem, please delete any previously downloaded Flash Player installer and either:
Download the installer again from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer, OR
Download the stand-alone installer posted at the bottom of the http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-mac.html in the ‘Still having problems’ section.
If the behaviour reproduces, please clear the browser's cache and try downloading again.
    Thank you.

  • I would like to buy a developer license to use on a mac at a public library from a flash drive any issue with this?

I would like to buy a developer license to use on a mac at a public library from a flash drive any issue with this? Very new to this

The license is for the Developer not the machine it is run on However there could be soma issues with trying to develop on a public machine.
The biggest is does the library machine have or will they let you install  and run Xcode and if you are developing for IOS will they let you plug in your devices?
In addition will they allow you the hours needed on the machine? Most public machines have a time limit especially if there are others waiting to use it.
All-in-all in can be done but it won;t be an easy situation.
    good luck

  • *** FOUND and SOLVED: Flash Player/Mac slowdown*** DO NOT return your iMacs

    Fellow Apple enthusiasts,
Sorry for the multiple posts, but I want to get this info out as soon as possible. I've found the cause of the infamous Mac "slowdown." I haven't seen this information posted anywhere yet, and hope to introduce a PROVEN solution to alleviate some frustrations with many Mac users out there. Don't return your iMac! Your hardware is fine. It is an Apple software issue that should be easily remedied with an update.
I'm posting this here in the iMac section first, because many seem to believe that only the iMac is affected. This is false. It will probably affect any Snow Leopard machine, but the iMacs are the first Macs to come with the Wireless Mouse drivers pre-installed alongside the Magic Mouse.
THE PROBLEM: Resource leakage, system slowdown, and slow/choppy Flash video playback while pegging CPU utilization for Flash Player, as observed in the Activity Monitor.
THE CAUSE: MAGIC MOUSE drivers. Yes, the Wireless Mouse update is the cause. With the update installed, the problem will occur as long as the mouse is paired with the Mac.
    It will occur REGARDLESS if:
    - The Magic Mouse is in standby mode
    - The mouse is switched off via power switch underneath
    - The mouse is disconnected under the Bluetooth drop down menu at top of screen
The reason I'm reporting the Wireless Mouse Update as the culprit is:
I have a 13" unibody MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and purchased a Magic Mouse online. Received it yesterday - Monday, November 2nd, and updated the Wireless Mouse driver files via Software Update under the Apple menu.
After the update, I noticed the same Flash Player problems mentioned online, and indeed, System Monitor showed about 104% utilization. Flash videos appeared to be running with 1/2 to 1/3 frame rates.
    * THE SOLUTION: Remove your Magic Mouse using the Bluetooth Utility.
    - Click on the Bluetooth icon at top of screen, and choose "Open Bluetooth Preferences." Or, use equivalent steps via System Prefs.
    - Highlight the Magic Mouse, and then click on the "-" minus at the bottom of the window.
    - Your Magic Mouse will no longer function with your Mac, obviously. Use a different mouse to avoid the problems you've experienced.
    - The Flash video problem will no longer occur, and suspect the resource leakage may cease as well.
A restart may or may not be necessary, but upon restarting my MBP, Flash video playback returned to normal, with about 40% utilization while streaming a single Flash video.
The steps above are simply what I used to rectify the problem. I don't know if other bluetooth mice will cause this problem. I have not tested any other wired or wireless mice either.
I'm just an average user who experienced and recognized the Flash video playback issue on my system. Upon seeing the problem occur, I simply reversed the last change I made to my computer, and found that this solved the problem. Both the problem and the fix are repeatable. The information here has been reported to Apple.
DON'T RETURN YOUR COMPUTERS! I'm confident that once Apple is aware, a software fix will be made. Again, this will probably occur on any machine running Snow Leopard, and may be even more widespread. I will continue conversation with Apple on this subject.
Good luck to us all in resolving this issue as quickly and easily as possible.

Posting here won't get Apple's attention. File a bug report with Apple if you want it to fix the issue. To do ths, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report. The nice thing with this procedur is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering about the issue.

  • Flash Pro Exporting Issues

Hello everyone. I recently have been working on a Flash animation. Throughout the making of this animation Flash has been failing, getting "unknown errors," and just plain corrupting some of my files. Now I understand that a 200MB is a rather large animation. But anyway's I have been constantly duplicating my .fla's because of just how unreliable Flash seems to be acting when it comes to this. Finally I decided enough is enough and tried to export it. Heck, I was just going to split the animation into 2 parts if it makes Flash happy and saves my hard work from corruption. I finally found one of the backup files that is moderately new. However upon attempting to export as a QuickTime it reads
"The export failed because the operation ran out of memory."
I have tried everything to get this to work. It should work! And it shouldn't be this difficult. I'm hearing stuff about how Flash apparently fails when it comes to exporting 1920 x 1080. Is this true? In that forum I read somebody said Adobe was working on fixing it. That forum has been up since around last summer. Has anybody found a solution to this issue? I just want what I've worked very hard on to work. Please help.
(P.S. I'm on a Mac, and this is Flash Pro CS6)

My recommendation is to bypass the QT movie export completely and use one of these effective workarounds. If you were to get an export to succeed, you'd find that the framerate is completely whacked and you can't use it effectively in any non-linear editing environment. QuickTime is not a stable export movie format ever since Adobe bought Flash. I'm an animation filmmaker, and this is a workaround that I and my professional friends use:
    OPTION 1:
    1) export an image sequence using the PNG format, no compression, best quality. Give yourself a short frame name with an underscore after it, like "myfile_.png"
    2) take the sequence of PNGs and do either one of these options:
a - use QuickTime Pro to import image sequence. Open your audio file with QT, it createsit's own file, then copy it, and then use QT manager to add it in to your video file. EXPORT a new QT using PNG compression (or other). Close/do not save this initial compiled edit. Your exported fil is the final and useable one, and is frame stable. Done.
b - import your PNG sequence into any non-linear editor, having set it's internal preferences to import stills so they last only 1 frame each. Most, like FCP or Premiere, you can also import as a media sequence or "footage" but that pre-applies a supposed FPS rate when imported. Again, you can now compile a video/audio edit and then export.
    OPTION 2:
    1) use SWIVEL, a free app that converts SWF files into movies, including QuickTime.
    2) publish an SWF without any compression/jpg high quality /audio included
    3) import into Swivel.
    4) set video qualities. Codec should be QuickTime ANIMATION
    5) set audio qualities
    6) Export, done.
    Hope this helps!

In IE7 Vista, my CPU is pegged at 22%. I do not run flash in
    Firefox because
of its rendering engine issues, so that might be an issue
    there. Safari has
known issues rendering CSS hovers on top of flash. The
    workaround is to
remove hovers or live with it.

  • How Can I Make a Flash Animation for TV?

I'm learning flash animation and am wondering once I save the flash file to a dvd format, how does the end-user navigate when they put the dvd into their TV? Do I need to design and incorporate a menu for the end-user? If so, how does the TV remote control navigate through this menu that was created on a Mac computer? Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

I don't know a lot about this subject but thought I'd give it a shot to answer.  You can use Adobe Encore to create menu systems for your DVD title screen.  As far as Flash is concerned I think you can import your animations into Encore's menu system though I'm not exactly sure how.  If you want to just make an animation that will be played back without interactivity you would just export your Flash animation as a Quicktime MOV file and import it into After Effects for further editing and finishing.  Once you render your mp4 (h.264) from AE you can bring this into Encore to author for your DVD.

  • Cannot View Flash animations after Installing Flash Player 9!!!!

Ok I installed the new FLash 9 player... ever since I did
this, all flash animations show up blank, no red x, nothing,m just
plain ol empty space where the animation should be... I tried all
the "so called" fixes, from adjusting the registry, to uninstalling
and reinstalling with reboots, and same thing happens. Flash works
fine in Firefox tho, but not IE!

    same issues!

  • Is Flash animation possible in iWeb?

I've tried dragging .swf files I made in Keynote into iWeb, but they just show up in a movie player and not a self playing animation. It wouldn't even show the transitions I made. Has anyone figured out if it's even possible to add Flash?
Maybe in March a Pro version of iWeb will debut along with the other new Universal Pro Apps. Here's hopin'. Other than that, iWeb is pretty dang cool.
    <http://web.mac.com/archstanton1862/iWeb/TrickRacing>

I'm not privy to the details and deals made between Macromedia (now Adobe) that allowed QuickTime 4 play Flash version 3 formats. The QT 5 allowed version 4 of Flash. And, 6 allowed Flash 5. Seems they were always one version number behind.
QuickTime 7 can't open Flash published higher than version 5, still. No version 6 support and nothing about Flash MX and newer versions (now up to 8, I believe).
If you want to hide the movie controller (I do it all the time in my pages) just set the html code for controller="false" in both the object and embed tags.
QuickTime also allows "progressive download" (a.k.a. Fast Start). Again, a simple html tag is all that is usually needed (autoplay="true") for this function to work.
The feature of Flash animation that allows this speed is its use of "objects". Once created, they can be morphed into different shapes or reused without increasing file size. Video formats can't do that. And neither does your Keynote export even though it is in Flash file format.
Vector graphics (scalable) are another Flash feature but QT can do some vector graphic formats (text files are an example).
Flash files usually display quickly (small file size) and don't demand much on a CPU because of what they are. Nothing to do with the file content,
Lastly, the Flash format was never intended for "video" formats. They don't do the colors (8 bit 256 colors is the normal limit of Flash) that most graphics now demand.

One of mine from may years ago. Under 3MB's.
Flash (and other tracks added using QT Pro) used. All in a .mov "wrapper".

  • Flash Animation: Font Not Displaying Correctly

    Hi all!
I am having a problem with a Flash animation in Captivate that seems like it should be an easy fix, but I can't seem to figure it out.
I have a very simple Flash animation that I developed in CS5. It previews in Flash perfectly, play correctly in Flash Player, but when I insert it into Captivate 4 the fonts do not display correctly. Capital letters are missing as well as other letters.
It's not a matter of AS2 vs. AS3 as I have already tested that. It also is not a frame rate or version issue as I have confirmed they are the same rates and the same version.
Can anyone shed any light? Anyone else had this same problem? Any guidance or suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Daniel

  • Flash animation

how can I put some flash animation in a magazine for iPad ?
I know I need to converted to HTML .. but I dont know how to put the HTML code in Adobe InDesign C5.5

Felipe - You can use a number of different methods to convert flash animation to HTML. If you're creating animation from scratch, I recommend using Adobe Edge. If you created native animation in InDesign, use an app called Wallaby. Copy the animation to a small document, export the document as an FLA file, and then use Wallaby to convert the FLA file to an HTML5 file that you can specify in a Web Content overlay. For more detailed instructions, download the DPS Tips app on your iPad and look at the Animation article in the Overlays issue.
Both Wallaby and Edge are available in Adobe Labs.
