Choppy Flash video/audio in fullscreen. Fix!

I've been banging my head against the wall for 24 hours now and this works for me.
I have an old MacBook Pro, 10.6.8, newest version of Chrome, Safari and Firefox, and a new Focusrite USB audio interface (Scarlett 2i2).
Installed the newest Flash player (11 something) and the Focusrite yesterday and everything went bad. Choppy fullscreen video, no audio in Chrome etc etc. So anyway, now it's all fine:
MAC/FLASH: Choppy video, no audio FIX.
1. UNINSTALL FLASH PLAYER. It *****. And it gobbles CPU power.
2. Bin the whole Macromedia folder from ~/Library/Preferences.
3. USE CHROME FOR FLASH SITES (has built in flash player - close Chrome when not in use to shut its flash player, to save CPU power).
4. ALSO: Have a USB audio interface? AUDIO MIDI SETUP: 44.1kHz OUTPUT.
That's it. Everything is now smooth in fullscreen in Chrome, and great audio through the Focusrite box.
*fingers crossed*

Does removing flash have any affect on the other browsers?
Yes - flash videos will not play in other browsers. Chrome has built-in flash so it still works.
However some YouTube videos will (after 2 seconds or so) detect that you don't have flash and default to H264 playback which seems to work fine.
I've now been using Chrome only for flash palyback for a couple of weeks and it works fine if you follow the steps above.
Last point - I often have to set Youtube to something lower than HD playback. Maybe just an internet speed thing.

  • CHOPPY FLASH VIDEO PLAYBACK WITH ADOBE FLASH VERSION 10-11

I'm  having a problem as described in a previous post re: Choppy flash videos, pictures, etc.. Youtube, megavideo any videos viewed online appear fine at first and then after 10-15 mins, start showing choppy. The audio was not a problem before, but I have noticed that it is being affected as well. I saw some posts on another forum a few days ago that recommended disabling flash player 11 in my chrome browser plugins and enabling verion 10 (which was available, but has since upgraded) and version 10 was working fine until it upgraded to 11 again. Now I have no options to revert to version 10 again.
    My system info is below:
    Sony:
    OS - Windows 7
    64 bit
    Browser Chrome 16.0.912.77
    Browser FireFox   9.0.1
    Browser IE 9
    Browser Safari 5.1.2
    Flash Player 11,1,102,55
McAfee (came with the upgrade of flash player)
This is very frustrating. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, rebooting the browser, my pc, deleting cache files and cookies...NOTHING IS WORKING. CPU usage is between 20-35% when a video is active in my browser. I think that is normal, but I know that the choppy playback is not and it's only getting worse. Please HELP!
I hope this NEW POST will suffice as per your requirements.

When the video is choppy, how much CPU and RAM usage is occurring?  Do you have a graphics control panel that shows how much video RAM is in use when the video is choppy?
Do you have a list of sites and videos where the video is choppy?
If you don't want the McAffee add-on, remove it.

  • I can't see my taskbar anymore in fullscreen mode while watching flash videos. how do I fix this?

I used to be able to see my taskbar while watching flash videos full screen. now I can't. I end up missing messages and worse yet, the low battery warning on screen and my computer shuts down. I have firefox 24.0.

Hi, I don't know how much help this screenshot is going to be but here goes. I used to be able to play flash videos full screen and see my taskbar on the bottom. Last week I think (not really sure, since it updates itself) there was a flash update. After the update, when I make the videos fullscreen, my taskbar disappears. Now I have to come out of fullscreen and check for the battery life and messages constantly. There's no "on top" setting for the taskbar in windows 7 but it is set to lock.

  • Some flash video/audio won't play

Hello, I'm using 10.6.7 and the lastest Flash plugin.
I've troubles with playback some flash video and audio in all browsers: Safari, Firefox 4, Chrome.
For example, Soundcloud.com works fine, but as a widget on other web-sites it doesn't work. Youtube and Vimeo — perfect, but BBC's videos won't play (ex., http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13054205).
    Any ideas?

Your link works fine for me in Safari.
Check your "extensions" (browser add ons) for your browsers. Some may conflict.

  • Choppy flash video

i noticed the flash videos from nba.com  are choppy on my 21.5 late 2009 imac 8GB ram. Its not buffering because the video loads in totality and still its choppy. I tried everything... uninstal flash player, unistal browser, try different browser, clear cache, reinstal OS.... . I am using currently SL since lion was kinda slow on my machine. Anyone having the same issue? Any advice?

Not sure exactly but look to the right on this page under More Like This and see if there is any help there - lots of threads.

  • Choppy Flash videos

Flash videos (such as the videos posted on http://www.greenday.com/site/picsnvids.php ) are very choppy.  I tried to reduce the Hardware Acceleration in the Display Settings, but that option is dimmed/unavailable on the TouchSmart.  I'm using Windows7,  Flash Player 10.1, and Verizon DSL.  Any suggestions?

I have had the problem with these browsers as well as with firefox. It seems I have resolved the issue playing with dimix device parameters playing in /etc/asound.conf (or with ~/.asoundrc if you use last one). Look at alsa wiki.
    http://alsa.opensrc.org/Dmix
I avoid and don't use pulseaudio (in fact is isn't installed).

  • Flash Video- audio level adjustable?

How do you boost the audio level on .flv video files? I have
encoded the original .avi video using the Adobe Flash CS3 Video
Encoder, created the FLV player within DreamWeaver, and then
published the site. The audio is barely audible. The audio level of
    the original file was fine.

  • Some Flash video/audio sites not working, Mac - Tiger

    Hey there
I'm having an issue where certain flash sites don't work
properly on my mac, they just sit there loading and never actually
    do anything.
The vast majority of sites work just fine, youtube, google
    video, gamevideos.com, the escapist, etc..
But some sites such as veoh.com simply will not play the
    videos.
In addition to that, www.pandora.com will not work either,
but there I at least get an error message stating that "flash local
storage is not turned on". In this case I've tried to load the
flash manager and turn it on, but after changing it and going back
in, it seems that my changes were not saved and my local storage is
    stuck at 10k max.
The exact same sites work fine on my friends PC using my
    wireless connection.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall flash with no
    success.
I've tried both firefox and safari, neither work, but the
flash stuff seems to be global on the machine, so I suspect it's
more of a problem with the flash than with a specific browser.
I've even tried to run firefox as root, install flash as
root, etc thinking that it was something to do with not having
permission to write to wherever flash was trying to store stuff.
    I've got Firefox 2.0.0.14, OSX 10.4.11, and Flash 9.0.124.0
    installed.
I suppose I'm most concerned about pandora.com, but I think
the video issues may be related to the "local storage" error I'm
    getting aswell.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.

No, not yet, support finally got back to me, but suggested it
was site specific.... which it's not, since every other computer
but mine works fine on that site (goto pandora.com if you're in the
US, it works fine, just not for me)
I've tried the flash 10 beta, that didn't help either.
I did a verify and repair permissions with apple's disk
utility, it did correct the permissons on the flash plugin, adding
write access for the group, but that didn't fix the problem.
Also, the fact that when I use the flash manager on adobe's
site and it won't remember the settings makes me think it's
something to do with Flash not having access to write a local
config file. It doesn't even have anything in the list of visited
    sites like it should...
I don't know where this config file is, i'm still waiting to
    hear back form support again...
I'll post something when it's fixed...

  • Choppy flash video on all windows internet browsers

    Hello everyone.
Like Carl E. Myers Junior recommended me, I opened a new discussion about my problem, which is:
I noticed this problem, from the middle of January.
I always watched videos in streaming, on youtube, veoh, megavideo, videoweed and usually not more than 10 or 20 minutes long.
After what, I started to watch some WebTV programz that were more than a hour long, and I noticed choppy videostreaming, at the first I tought a specific site problem, but, than I started watching some TV Series on various sites, like veoh, videoweed and megavideo, and there the same thing.
Practically I tried the thing on IE 9, FF 6, Chrome(16.0.9...) with Windowz 7, after watching 20 - 30 minutes of video it becomes chopped more rarely becoming very choppy, like 2-3 frames/second after 40 - 50 minutes.
I've tried to copy and paste the link inside a new tab on the same browser session, watching videos on different flash player sites allways on the
same browser session, nothing to do the same thing on all browsers.
I've tried to empty the browser cache, and even deleted all local data of the Flash Player (watch the pic 1) on Win Control Panel, nothing even than.
       pic 1
The only thing helped when I opened a new browser session, there I had other 30 minutes.
So, the only solution was watching the video in 2 or 3 browser sessions.
Anyone has a clue, or facing the same problem?
Pls write, 'cose the Adobe Team wont wake up for only one nut guy who faces the problem.
    My PC:
    Samsung:
    OS Windows 7
    Browser Chrome 16.0.912.77
    Browser FireFox   9.0.1
    Browser IE 9
    Browser Safari 5.1.2
    Flash Player 11,1,102,55
    AVG Antivirus
By the way, I even try the same thing on other PC's, gives the same problem.
    Thx for anyone's attention.

I have seen this problem on some sites that were streaming a video using the JW Player.  What I usually do is the note the time, refresh the tab and set the video back to the time.  The problem seems to occur on my system when the RAM usage gets up to about 48% when a JW Player video is running.
Have you noted the CPU, RAM and Video RAM usage when the choppiness occurs?

  • Choppy flash video on hulu with a twist

OK so get this: If my mouse is stationary the video on hulu is choppy and really annoying to watch.  If my mouse is moving (at all) the video plays perfectly.  I have eliminated processor/bandwidth issues as possibilities and I have tried no mouse/generic mouse driver/updated mouse driver with no success.  This has to be an issue with flash but I can't seem to resolve it.
Windows XP 32 bit, IE7 Athlon 4400 Dual Core, 2GB dual channel RAM, evga 7600GS 256MB video/500gb hdd with tons of free space.
    Please help!

I feel your pain.  I have the exact same problem.  I don't have an answer to your question but wanted to let you know that you aren't alone in having this issue.  Hopefully, we will see a solution soon, because it is highly annoying to have to move your mouse around to be able to watch a video.
Ironically enough, this is similar to an issue I have with Adobe Premier with having to move the mouse so that video playback while I'm editing doesn't lock up on me.  Wierd...

  • No media content works (flash, video, audio)

Recently almost all media content asides from images as stopped working in safari. This is essentially anything quicktime would be used to play. The update to 10.4.3 did not help, and re-installing the quicktime 7.0.1(?) update did not fix the problem.
To illustrate fully how deep this problem runs in safari, if I were to open a video with safari like "http://link.to.the.video.mov" I would just be presented with a blank page.
The same goes for flash content (even after installing the official macromedia flash plugin multiple times). For instance if I were to navigate to "http://www.homestarrunner.com" which is a 100% flash site, I will be presented with a blank page.
Has anyone experienced this? And does anyone have any suggestions?
    So far I have:
    Re-installed the quicktime update
    Re-installed the macromedia flash plugin
    Verified / Repaired disk permissions
Removed all plugins from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and then added them back in one by one restarting safari each time.

You know what is kinda annoying though, is that I did go to Help>Installed Plug-Ins to make sure they registered with Safari and there is no "These are your plug-ins BUT they are all disabled" message.
    That would be convenient.

  • Flash Video Jerky / Choppy Fullscreen Chrome

I've been having this problem for a couple of years using Flash video across ALL websites.  When I play a full screen flash video, the video gets choppy or jerky.  The audio continues perfectly.  I'm a pretty tech and computer savvy person, so I have tried a lot of the fixes I could think of.  I ended up finding one SOLUTION to the jerky video that works EVERY SINGLE TIME.  If I right-click the full-screen video, and allow the settings menu to remain on top of the video while it plays, I NEVER have issues with jerky or choppy video.  If I cancel the settings menu, the jerkiness returns immediately and remains throughout the video duration.  To help diagnose this, here's my specs and stuff I have tried.
    Dell 1764 running Win 7 x64 on a Core i5 processor, 4Gig RAM.
all builds of chrome in the last couple of years, w/ and w/out the included flash (i.e. disabling in about:plugins).
24mbps cable connection, with no buffering issues noted
Cleared cookies, history, temp files, ran anti-virus and spyware.
Have always been up-to-date w/ windows updates.
Fullscreen videos that do work flawlessly:
Netflix using the Silverlight plugin.  Youtube HTML5 videos.  Any DVD's or downloaded videos play perfectly in VLC and MPC.
So, in summation:  Flash vidoes in fullscreen are Jerky/choppy using Chrome browser.  When I right-click and allow that menu to remain on top, jerkiness goes away.  Cancel the right-click menu, problems return.

No worries.  I appreciate the feedback, and just want to make sure I'm understanding the data that I'm collecting clearly.
We're aware that there are random short-lived problems that happen during transitions in and out of full-screen and scrubbing.  We have a number of bugs open on the engineering team around it.  In general, these are usually complex timing-related problem with a bunch of interrelated, moving parts (codec, network latency, buffering, stream quality, hardware, browser, etc).  They're really hard to debug.  It continues to be a big area of focus for both the dev and quality engineering teams, and something we're investing a lot of time and energy into improving.
Also, it's worth pointing out that we test a pretty large matrix of graphics cards, and we partner directly with many of the GPU vendors -- but there's a ton of fragmentation and we can't check every single card that's out there in the world.  If we see a bunch of bugs coming in about a particular configuration, we do our best to track the card down and take a look.
If you find instances where you're able to reproduce playback problems consistently, please file a bug.  Include a direct link to the video/videos that you can consistently reproduce the video problems with, and include the output of dxdiag (or the graphics card info from the System Information tool on Mac).  OS and Browser versions are also very useful.
I'm not personally involved in the work around PPAPI for Flash Player, but we have a whole team working on building a great experience for Chrome and Pepper.  Disabling PepperFlash where it's enabled will generally cause Chrome to fall back to the stanadard NPAPI-based Flash Player instead.  Keep an eye out for announcements about preview releases for Flash Player on PPAPI -- I'm sure the team will appreciate your feedback once they become available.

  • Choppy fullscreen flash video playback

When I enter fullscreen in many flash videos, the videos get choppy.  This is true across different browsers.  It happens on different web sites, but not with the exact same symptoms.  Some web sites' videos will work in fullscreen if I recently opened the browser, while others consistently are choppy in fullscreen.  For example, youtube or hulu will work if I recently opened safari, but mlb.tv will consistently be choppy.
All of my software is up to date.  I've tried repairing my disk permissions.  I've downloaded shockwave for 64 bit.  I've tried downloading the most recent beta of flash, but it didn't work, so I downgraded to the most recent official version.  None of it has worked.
    Please help!

I also found a solution that works for me. I completley uninstalled Flash from my Mac. I couldn't happier with the results. My Macbook Pro Battery life is more than doubled, It is no longer ever too hot place on my lap. My fan/s almost never come on anymore.
I use Safari as my main browser. Most sites detect my lack of Flash and convert video and adds to HTML just fine. Netflix works fine on it since it works off Siverlight. If I do need to visit a sight that requires Flash, (hulu) I just open it in Chrome which has Flash built into it. Visiting Flash sites on Chrome by the way is the only time my Mac gets hot and requires the fans to come on. Best fix I've ever done for my Mac. Litterally everything I do or run my Mac is faster and smoother. I no longer have sticking or spinning balls waits while flash decides if it needs to be working for this for whatever process or app I'm trying to use. Life on my Mac has been grand since Flash got the boot.
