Choppy Internet

I have a 360 and my PC connected to my router and the wireless works fine but for some reason, the two systems (PC and 360) actually wired to the router have a very slow and choppy connection compared to how they used to run through a different brand router. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Also the connection is choppy, super fast for an instant, not working another.

I have had troubles recently as well except I have been using the same router and modem for a long time now. But recently my internet has been like you say 'choppy' one minute, great one time, and then non existant. So several times a day I end up having to reset my modem. That usually fixes the problem. But this is an annoyance and I cant figure out why it is doing this all of a sudden.

  • 10.6.8 -- Choppy, Slow, Fast, No, Return to Fast Then Choppy Internet

Have several Macs on 10.6.7; upgraded one to 10.6.8 yestarday as a test. All but the upgraded computer have swift internet; all on the same network. The 10.6.8 computer hangs, goes quick, stops, goes quiick, hangs ....
I've tried every solution I can finfd here - deleted .plists, reset Time Capsule, added even more open DNS, reset PRAM, reset the power, even said a Hail Mary or two, all to no avail.
Should I just roll back to 10.6.7?
I'd really like to be up to date (security and so forth) on all my Macs, but want to get this choppy internet thing figured out before going further.
Interesting factoid - the Apple website is the choppiest.
    Ideas/suggestions?
    Please ....

The issue you mention has been reported by a few people ever since 10.6.8 was released. Here are just a few work-arounds and troubleshooting tips noted:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3802
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408
A popular search engine will reveal similar complaints in a variety of non-Apple forums as well.
Slowness of 5.1 Safari is THE reason I went back to 10.6.7 and Safari 5.0.5 after getting the 'Spinning Beachball' all the time with 10.6.8. I've noticed that the 'New' Twitter interface (now some months old) often seems to use a lot of processor to keep all the timeline links and images active. (To see what's currently open in Safari, use Window, Activity from the top menubar.)

  • NB 255 - Choppy Internet Video

An admitted noob when it comes to hardware and specs, I'm hoping someone can help me out with what I believe to be a fairly fixable problem.,..
I just bought an NB 255 with Windows 7 Home Premium, and really enjoy so far. Except for one thing: internet videos are almost always extremely choppy. And I'm not talking a few frames being skipped here and there, it's pretty unwatchable. The sound is fine, and I usually close out every other program. Doesn't matter which site -- Youtube, Dailymotion, Hulu, etc. Internet connections are usually fine... 4 or 5 (out of 5) bars. Playing videos that aren't online -- thru iTunes, WMV, or Quicktime -- are all crisp and gorgeous.
    My specs:
    Model: TOSHIBA NB255
    Processor: Inter(R) Atom(TM) CPU N455 @ 1.66GHz
    RAM: 1.00 GB
    System Type: 32-bit operating system
Hard Drive: 197GB of 233GB free
Network Adapter: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter
Display Adapter: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
Windows edition: Windows 7 Home Premium
I guess I'd be willing to pay a little bit of money for some kind of upgrades if that's what's necessary since the machine was fairly inexpensive. But I find this kind of unfortunate, as I understand that a netbook isn't designed to be the most powerful machine on the planet, but I would consider watching videos a pretty rudimentary online task.

Do you have the factory Windows installation installed? Or has Windows been reinstalled manually?
Have you updated the BIOS and the Display Driver to the latest versions? (check the Toshiba website).
Are you sure its not a bandwidth problem? Maybe the video isn't being fed fast enough.

  • Choppy Internet Streaming

I have FIOS Internet, and cant watch any streaming videos smoothly. I have NHL Gamecenter subscription, and I cant watch 5 minutes of a game on the lowest setting without it breaking up and stopping to buffer.  I have tried to "optimize" my settings, and i have tried to watch the videos on all 3 of my PC's including my desktop, which uses a wired internet connection.... Any suggestions? The speed tests I have run will show anywhere from 5 MBPS DL to 14 MBPS DL....
    Thanks
    David

make sure you're wired speeds are normal before you continue.   So how fast should it be?
Do a couple things first for us.
Get on the wired machine  (if it's windows 7 don't start IE like normal, do a right click instead, and run it as administrator.)
Re-run the Verizon Optimizer (in rare cases you'll have to reboot the PC for the change to take affect, or at the very least shut down IE and then Re-open)
and then test at http://speedtest.verizon.net and let us know what you get.
If we can get your wired connection running as fast as it should consistently then we can get the wireless fixed next,.

  • Problems with AirDisk permissions/connectivity.

I started out assuming that the problem was related to the Airport Extreme drivers, but it could be a number of things (airport extreme driver, Time Machine conflict, Network settings).
I had purchased a new hard drive and disconnected my airdisk to transfer files between the two.  Around the same time that I moved it back to the Airport Extreme, I also made some changes in my network configuration.  I have Comcast and my connection to the NFL GameRewind service would downgrade video into a 8-bit-looking, blockish mess.  Speedtest.net returned "normal" speeds, but I hypothesized that it was a choppy internet connection and since GameRewind pushes video as a series of flashlets it was causing it to think there was no internet if it requested something during an outage.  Upon putting the hard drive back on the Airport Extreme, I was surprised to see that the drive was still recognized as my Time Machine drive (I have not tried a TM backup over the network, maybe I'll do that next).
After making those changes, my Twitter apps on my iphone would no longer connect to the Twitter server.  This, despite the fact that speedtest.net still returned a very good internet connection, and Safari worked normally.  So I made some more changes to my network settings again, and all seemed well with the world.  However, when I tried to add some media to my "Automatically Add to iTunes" it would not let me (user does not have permission).  It gets a little fuzzy here, because it would "disconnect" from the drive, while continuing to let me browse it.
Then, my iTunes podcasts stopped downloading (error -50).  I found that it would work, if I disconnected from the airdisk, reopened iTunes, and reconnected to the airdisk.  One of my network settings is to refresh the DHCP every 12 hours, which was the same with the original configuration.  However, when I was working with the Twitter server problem, I switched it from sharing an IP address to distributing a range of IP addresses.  It seems as if the airdisk does not recognize my MBP after it changes its DHCP?
How can I make my airdisk and computer stay connected? How can I make my airdisk autoconnect when returning from sleep?
    M@

The Finder will let me explore my disk, but if I try to transfer a file to it it says:
The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50).
Ejecting the airdisk "can't be completed because iTunes is using it" but if I try to update my podcasts, they immediately stop with the status "zero KB of xy.z MB - stopped (err = -50)".
If I quit iTunes, it will allow me to eject it.  Then reconnect, and it works properly again both with file transfers and podcasts.  Sleeping, momentarily, does not affect the connectivity, which points back to the DHCP issue.  Maybe I can assign my computer a set IP?
Hmm... that didn't seem to work, still "disconnected" after sleeping overnight.

Any help with this or anyone else experiencing this problem? would a choppy internet cause a problem like this ?
any and all help is appreciated !

What 64bit OS version are you on?
I have Win7 64bit and this is what I see on my C drive:
Notice that there is a Program Files directory - this is the one for 64 bit apps - and a separate Program Files (x86) directory - this is for 32 bit apps running in a 64 bit environment.
Do you see anything like this when you browse your C drive?  Can you take a screenshot of the folders you see and insert the graphic in your post?

  • Itunes Sounds Choppy, particularly when on the internet

    Hey there,
Itunes all of a sudden sounds very choppy; jumpy, particularly when surfing the internet. Don't understand why; running latest Windows with intel core i7 processor and plenty of RAM so it shouldn't be an issue. Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    P

    Try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases. Some users have found this eliminates the issue.

  • ITunes Choppy Audio during internet activity

My iTunes functions perfectly, playing mp3's flawlessly and transferring to my shuffle without and audio distortion.
HOWEVER, when my computer is doing anything to do with the internet, the audio goes VERY choppy and continues to do so until I hit pause and then play again. It happens when I'm loading webpages, or downloading.
If anyone could give me a hint as to what the problem is, I'd appreciate it. Thank you!

ahh, I´m not the only one who made the same bad experience. upgraded from iTunes 4 to 6 and had big problems with my hard drive (very slow read and write).
I installed the computer totally new!
AND NOW?! I have a horrible sound! very tinny and like an old and a thousand times used LP...
sorry I have no solution and hoping and waiting for help too...
btw I´m very surprised about that many different problems that occurs with iTunes. I always thought, apple is doing clean and propper programming?!?!
does someone know how to contact apple directly... I have the feeling they don´t give u the chance to call them or email directly...

  • All streaming video with my Firefox browser is choppy and constantly stutters and stops and starts. This does not happen with Internet Explorer. Help!!

Any streaming video that I view on Firefox stutters, is choppy and very irritating to try and watch. I opened up Internet Explorer and found that I don't have those issues. This occurs on YouTube, Facebook, and all other videos that I attempt to watch.

I've tried both things, but video still stutters.. Have also tried removing profile, and complete reinstall of firefox.
I'm on 24 Mbit cable and the only user atm. IE and Chrome seems to work without stuttering.
I've having this stuttering every ~5th second, like a small "1/4 sec buffering".

  • Videos played via internet are so slow and choppy, SLOW Firefox

Was wondering if anyone knew for sure the reason why videos/movie trailers played thru either Safari or Firefox are extremely slow and choppy on my G5 imac or G4 iBook laptop. Not sure if the outdated processors cant handle the flash embedded videos Youtube, Quicktime and other sites post, but it is really annoying not to be able to watch anything smoothly. Even if i let the entire video load (if it is a quicktime), then play it, it still is very choppy. The audio plays fine, but the video never keeps up. I have a 6mb DSL connection, so that cant be the problem. Any video I play via my iPod Touch (aside from flash videos it cant play) they are as smooth as can be (And that is via a wireless connection). Which makes me think it is a processor issue. Any thoughts?
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this situation? (aside from buying a new computer...)
PLUS, does anyone notice how slow Firefox is, or is it just me? Seems like even when i type in this form field, time lags as the letters show up. I have the latest version, and it is so slow. Switching tabs takes time... Reading and accessing RSS fields in the Feed Sidebar plug in is really slow...
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

QuickTime is designed to "drop" frames during playback when the machine can't keep up with the video data rate (audio continues normally). This may appear as a "stutter" during playback on an older machine.
It's not based on the Internet connection speed.
Apple movie trailers use the newer (2005) H.264 video codec and they demand a high CPU (Intel is best). You should get better performance on your G5 than on the G4.
Videos encoded using Flash will be equally difficult to view on older machines

  • Choppy / slow streaming internet video

I have been having problems with streaming video on my internet for almost a year now. It used to work fine, but has gotten slow and choppy. I thought that it was my computer, but recently got a "smart" TV and it does the same thing.

This sounds like the issue isn't with the tv itself, it may be the router or the battery back up unit.
When is the last time you hard rebooted both of them?

  • Internet video streaming on G5 laggy, choppy

I have a G5 Mac Pro. Latest OSX one can put on it. Currently hooked up via DVI to HDMI to 46" LCD TV. Largely, everything works great. All sound and video and software works fine. The one problem I have run into which could be a deal breaker is that video streaming from the web is terrible. It is laggy, choppy, slow, etc. Sometimes the sound is off. The install is pretty fresh. I haven't checked to see what media apps might be installed, for example Flip4Mac. I have hunted around and heard things like Flash, Silverlight, or just that PPC processors cannot handle video streaming from the Internet. The video card seems standard and DVD and local video files play fine. All updates are installed. It is also like this when using a regular Dell LCD using DVI. Any suggestions?

  • Choppy flash video on all windows internet browsers

    Hello everyone.
Like Carl E. Myers Junior recommended me, I opened a new discussion about my problem, which is:
I noticed this problem, from the middle of January.
I always watched videos in streaming, on youtube, veoh, megavideo, videoweed and usually not more than 10 or 20 minutes long.
After what, I started to watch some WebTV programz that were more than a hour long, and I noticed choppy videostreaming, at the first I tought a specific site problem, but, than I started watching some TV Series on various sites, like veoh, videoweed and megavideo, and there the same thing.
Practically I tried the thing on IE 9, FF 6, Chrome(16.0.9...) with Windowz 7, after watching 20 - 30 minutes of video it becomes chopped more rarely becoming very choppy, like 2-3 frames/second after 40 - 50 minutes.
I've tried to copy and paste the link inside a new tab on the same browser session, watching videos on different flash player sites allways on the
same browser session, nothing to do the same thing on all browsers.
I've tried to empty the browser cache, and even deleted all local data of the Flash Player (watch the pic 1) on Win Control Panel, nothing even than.
       pic 1
The only thing helped when I opened a new browser session, there I had other 30 minutes.
So, the only solution was watching the video in 2 or 3 browser sessions.
Anyone has a clue, or facing the same problem?
Pls write, 'cose the Adobe Team wont wake up for only one nut guy who faces the problem.
    My PC:
    Samsung:
    OS Windows 7
    Browser Chrome 16.0.912.77
    Browser FireFox   9.0.1
    Browser IE 9
    Browser Safari 5.1.2
    Flash Player 11,1,102,55
    AVG Antivirus
By the way, I even try the same thing on other PC's, gives the same problem.
    Thx for anyone's attention.

I have seen this problem on some sites that were streaming a video using the JW Player.  What I usually do is the note the time, refresh the tab and set the video back to the time.  The problem seems to occur on my system when the RAM usage gets up to about 48% when a JW Player video is running.
Have you noted the CPU, RAM and Video RAM usage when the choppiness occurs?

  • Linksys E2000 Suddenly Choppy When Playing HD Videos

So quick back story. I stream a lot of 720p HD video over my network (both local storage and Internet streaming). I bought the E2000 about 5-6 months ago after my last router stopped working, and it has been working flawlessly up until now.
So a few days ago, I was streaming a live basketball game, and noticed that all of a sudden, it would no longer stream at 3Mbps HD quality (or even 1.5Mbps or 800Kbps; I had to drop it to the lowest setting of 300Kbps to stream, and even then it was iffy). I thought...well, maybe this service is getting more popular, and they just need to fix their pipe.
Then, last night, I went to watch a locally-stored HD video (720p, around 4-5Mbps), which is something I've done almost everyday for the last six months with this router, and when I went to play it, the movie would play for maybe 4-6 minutes without any trouble, and then suddenly, it would just start stuttering (i.e. play 5-10 frames, freeze for 1/4 second, play, freeze, and repeat for the next 20-30 seconds of the movie). It would then play fine again for 5-10 minutes, and then suddenly do the same. It would repeat this process throughout the entire course of the movie.
Now, keep in mind, I've made NO changes to my setup, networking, Internet connection, or file server. I decided to bring up a network monitor to look at the connection while a video was playing, and this is the result:
    http://www.screencast.com/t/N886Il6rE
You can see the normal spikes of data transmission on the left and right of the graph, but then the connection just drops off in the middle. That exactly corresponds to where the video begins to get choppy. Then, when it starts to spike again, the movie beings playing smoothly.
    Things I've tried:
    - I was running in mixed G/N mode, so I tried switching to N-only (only one of my computers has an N adapter, so this would not be ideal for the moment). No luck, still choppy.
    - Tried restarting every single computer, including file server. Still choppy.
    - Tried making sure the router wasn't overheating. We live in a cold region, I stuck it against a window that was 30 degrees F in temperature. Still choppy.
    - I tried changing some of the packet size/frequency settings in the "Advanced" section of wireless setup, messed with the frequency, changed the channels, etc. Still choppy.
    - I checked to make sure I have the latest firmware for the router, I do.
    - Played with relocating all of my antennas and such, even putting them in unsightly places to make sure I'd get a strong signal. Still choppy.
I can't really think of anything else to try, and it's just so odd that this has worked without any trouble for months now. It has to be the wireless function on the router, because when I try streaming it with a wired connection, it works just fine. The ONLY difference I noticed (and I don't know when this happened) is that one of my neighbors set up an N-router, which hasn't been there before. They moved in maybe 1-2 months ago, so I'm guessing that the router has been around for that long, or slightly less...which perhaps could coincide with my timeline for this not working anymore. Could that be a possible issue, and if so...way around it (again, note I've already tried changing channels, etc. I can't run on 5.0GHz frequency because my adapter doesn't support it).
    Thanks!

Hey, I have the exact same issue.
Had this e2000 for over 2 years and never a real issue with it.
Suddenly -- 3 days ago, it started doing this same thing. Fine internet then spiking and dropping occasionally, making playing games/streaming live video imposible. I had made no changes, attached no new devices, or done anything out of the ordinary.
I tried all the same tactics you did. Power Cycled, rebooted computers, power cycled modem etc. I propped it up on some bottle caps to make sure it was getting ventilation (remember though, it hasn't moved from its location in over a year), and then I updated the firmware to the latest version. As part of the firmware reset, I did a hard reset and a power cycle to reset all the settings and then manually configred them myself. Still having these issues.
The wired internet is fine, as one of my roommates can use it and I can connect to it and use it on this curent computer.
    Any answers?

  • How to Improve Ability to Watch Internet Video?

I have noticed what seems to be a decrease in the technical quality of many videos I try to watch on a variety of different internet sites--from Youtube to sports to news and current events. Quite a bit of the video is just so choppy (is this a slow frame rate?) that it just looks like a few still pictures sequenced one after the other. I've even experienced choppy or slurred audio accompanying some of the video (I would think that audio should not really be a problem on the internet these days).
I have a cable broadband connection, roughly 4.5 MB/sec down and 450 kB/sec up and speed checks always seem to be OK.
I have the most up to date version of Flash, Flip4Mac and even MS Silverlight (I believe only the first gen. works with PPC Macs).
One interesting observation I have made, is that my son's iPod touch (connected to our home Wi-Fi network) has great looking (compared to my iMac), smooth frame rate video on Youtube and on March Madness on Demand (back during the NCAA tournament). My iMac is hardwired into our wireless router, by the way.
Is the current coding, formatting, whatever, of internet video just leaving my PPC iMac in the dust or is there something anyone can suggest (I know, the first suggestion is probably to get a current Intel iMac!)? I mean, if the iPod touch can play such relatively high quality video, then it's not pure processor speed, afterall I do have a 1 GHz PPC in this iMac.
Watching all this internet video is not essential, but it has become such an integral part of the internet experience that I'd really like to do something to improve the quality of the experience.
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

"(I know, the first suggestion is probably to get a current Intel iMac!)?"
Not from me! Never a problem viewing +"internet videos."+ on my PPC. Also make sure you have the latest versions of QuickTime, VLC Media Player and Perian (AVI and FLV support).
Make sure you repair permissions & restart your computer. Most times, this clears up video issues. Last resort, running repair permissions from your HD and afterwards run +repair disk+ from your software install DVD.
Another thing to check is your browser(s) Preferences plug-in mappings. In FireFox, it's location under the Applications tab. I do not use Safari so have no idea where their file mappings are other than somewhere in Preferences.
