Choppy play of Library while Importing CD

Just recently the playback of our library list has become quite choppy while importing a CD at the same time. I am not sure if this is a result of excessive files -- and my brand new desktop getting used so much -- or something else. Has anyone experienced this, and more importantly -- has anyone figured out how to fix this? I love to listen to the music while sitting here importing.
Just to clarify -- the choppy playback occurs when playing music during a CD import process. Once the CD is finished importing, the choppiness ceases.
Thanks!

  • Playing a CD while importing

In the older versions of iTunes, when I would pop in a CD to import, it would start playing automatically. In 8.0, as many of you have noticed, they've disabled this option. I saw something where you can change this on a Mac by going into the Terminal, but as a PC user, I'm curious if it's possible to do it. Either way, I'd be curious to know if anyone has any ideas. Of course I can just play the disc after the first song is imported, but it would be nice not to have to do this. Oh I'm using Windows XP.

Thanks for your help, arg9182, but I think you misunderstood my question. I know that you can reset iTunes to start playing a CD when you pop it into the disc drive. I tried this option, but the problem is that it doesn't import the CD, but rather just plays it. I'm looking for a way to do both, as I used to be able to do with older versions of iTunes. Any ideas anyone? It's really annoying that they took out this feature from 8.0.

  • Missing required library while importing projects to the dev-studio

    Hi all,
I imported my projects in my new developer studio (sp15) from the old one (sp13).
After that i changed the paths of the required libraries as far as i found them.
But some of them i cannot find:
    webdynpromodel_webservice.jar
    webdynpromodel_webservice_default.jar
    webdynproportal.jar
    cache_api.jar
    cache_plugins.jar
    cachemhmt.jar
These libraries are in a web dynpro project.
Has someone an idea where i could find them or are they replaced by others in SP15?
    Thx

    Hello Florian,
just do a windows explorer search in
    C:SAPIDEIDE70eclipseplugins
for example the new folder for webdynpromodel_webservice.jar is
    C:SAPIDEIDE70eclipsepluginscom.sap.tc.webdynpro.model.webservice_2.0.0lib
Maybe you should create a new webdynpro project. Abort the wizard as soon as possible and just copy all the files from the src folder to the new project. That should work also.

  • Quits while importing; pictures in library folder don't show in window

Quits while importing; photos are in iPhoto Library, but don't show up
I have about 6500 photos in iPhoto 5.0.4. Everything worked well until this week when I went to import a series of new pictures. I import from a Scandisk card reader.
The process appeared to go well until the progress bar showed 1 photo remaining. After a time the application quit.
I tried again with the same result, several times.
I tried rebuilding the library. It appeared not to work.
I copied the library to another disk drive and tried to create a new library and copying back the pictures into the new library. It didn't work.
I trashed the software and reinstalled it, then copied the old pictures into the library and the new ones from my camera. Then I had to recreate the albums I had before. It worked.
This morning I shot more pictures and tried to add them to the library. Déja vu. It got to one picture remaining and quit.
I rebuilt the library. This time it seemed to work. The "new" pictures were still in the library folders on the hard drive but did not show up on the screen (one for each time I'd tried to load them with _1, _2, etc. added to the name, for each additional attempt, including the last one in the series).
I tried to add to the library. It quit at the one photo remaining point again.
    Suggestions, please.
    Alex Norton

    Hi Alex,
    Two things to suggest:
    -Try a different card reader
-Use Image Capture to import your images to the computer. You will have much more control. Once images are downloaded you can put them in dated folders then import the folders to iPhoto.
This is my preferred method and is what I do.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • Itunes no longer plays the first CD track etc. while importing?

Now when I start importing from a CD Itunes no longer starts playing the first track after it has downloaded and the second track begins downloading. I can't see a switch or button that has shut that feature off but Itunes used to play it without being prompted but no longer does. What am I missing?

    hs,
Just in case you haven't found the answer to your question in other postings, what works is to open the Terminal (found in Apps>Utilities) and type in : -
defaults write com.apple.iTunes play-songs-while-importing -bool TRUE
Hit return and then close the Terminal. The next time you open iTunes it should play again as you import cds.
I guess it's all part of the "Macs are easier to use" policy of Apple :o)

I upgraded my iMusic to v10 when I hooked up my new iPod.  Now I find that a new CD won't play while importing and the new software is preventing me from burning new MP3 versions of the music I have imported.  Help!!!

    Do you mean iTunes?
Now I find that a new CD won't play while importing
Has been this way for a while.
and the new software is preventing me from burning new MP3 versions of the music I have imported.
You can only burn an MP3 CD if you have created an MP3 version of the file. iTunes does not and has never created MP3 files on the fly when burning an MP3 CD.
If you import as AAC (the default), you must first create an MP3 then add the MP3 to a playlist and burn the MP3 playlist.

  • Playing CD while importing it

I used to be able to play any tunes on the compact dics even while it was importing it. Now for some reason I can't do them any more the play button is greyed over. I looked through all the preferences but no luck. Any ideas how to fix this?

Playing songs while importing was one of the functions removed from iTunes with version 8 but it can be reinstated with a terminal command. See this post for details: iTunes 8 for Mac - Preferences
If you are using OS X 10.5 you can also switch it on and off using TinkerTool, the option is in the Leopard tab of that program. You can get TinkerTool here: Download TinkerTool

  • Play songs while importing?

So upon installing itunes 8 i noticed they got rid of the play songs while importing feature. Does anyone know of a workaround to get this working again? It seems like it can be enabled again by editing itunesprefs.xml but i dont know the appropriate code if thats the case. I did tons of searches on the web and was only able to find information on macs. Can anyone help?
this is frustrating because i dont want to revert back just for this feature.

I guess that if you can turn this on on a Mac with:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes play-songs-while-importing -bool TRUE
Then it might be possible to do the same on windows by editing '\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunesiTunesPrefs.XML' and adding:
    <key>play-songs-while-importing</key>
    <data>True</data>
It might work and it's pretty easy to check. MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP THE FILE FIRST!!

  • FCP Video Distorted While Importing & Playback Issues

While importing a Mini DV off of my Sony DVCAM deck there are some moments lately where the video playback and importing is distorted. There are four vertical lines that are pixelated with multi color over the video that is playing back. It happens on and off. This just happened and I play the video source from my camcorder everything looks fine. On top of that there are moments when I can control my deck through FCP but there is no video playing back in FCP. Am I missing something? This just popped up considering I have imported footage before with no problems. Anyone have a clue? Thankx
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Try capturing a short segment using iMovie.
If it works, you most likely have a Quicktime issue.
Often in upgrading the OS, QT or FCP for some odd reason QT will get knocked slightly off kilter. The usual solution it to force a full reinstall of QT.
    This is how:
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
    Reboot
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Good luck.

  • Playing other sounds on import

    Hi,
I've had a look through other topics but can't find anything about this, I've just started importing my CD collection and after importing a slightly scratched CD my computer started making odd sounds when other applications play sound (ie MSN), the only way I can describe is its a grating sound like that of a broken disk drive or a corrupt CD being played. I've tried importing a number of CD's thinking that it was the CD causing the issue but it happens with new CD's too (but only when importing at all other times iTunes operates normally)
I know its iTunes because it only starts when I start importing, has anyone else ever had this before or know of a solution?
    Thanks
    Tim
ps. I should just add that its also started importing CD's at 8.0x where it was going at 25.0x before this started...

    Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I think I'll just try an uninstall/re-install and see what happens then as its only started happening recently, is there anything I should be aware of before doing so (will export my library first of course!!)
Sure, because I'm importing over 400 CD's I've decided I'd do it at the mp3's "Higher Quality (192kpbs)" setting, without error correction and without playing them while importing, other than that I think its all the standard settings.
I've got the CD's burning one at a time but I'm using 2 CD/DVD drives -so when one finishes the other starts -time saving eh haha!!
