Choppy playback of all flash/facebook videos on MacBook (Mid 2010) (clean yosemite installation!!)

Hi!
I did an upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite on my MB Pro 13" (Mid 2010). Now I got a lot of problems with videos (flash) in Safari 8.
I seams that there is an issue while loading the video stream. After the loading most of the videos have a smooth playback.
Firefox works perfect and HTML5 videos on YouTube are no problem!
I did several tests:
- safari reset
- abobe flash reinstall
- deactivation of hardware acceleration in adobe flash
- test with a new user account/profile on OS X
- WiFi off and use a wired connection
- CLEAN install of Yosemite !!!
Any idea?

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Now delete the Safari cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari then try a video.

  • Best Video card for Mid 2010 Mac Pro

I'm currently running a Mid 2010 Mac Pro with a 5870 video card in it. I feel that it's bottlenecking processes, and want to upgrade it. I'm not looking to upgrade the computer itself, but want to get the fastest video card that I can.
Looking for suggestions, and links if possible to what you know works.
    Thanks!

Why do you a) need a "fast" video card, and b) think it is the bottleneck (it might)?
Maybe you need dual AMD's and a 2nd 5870 (with the addition of 2nd 450W PSU to drive it).
This: July 25th, 2014 -- GeForce GTX 780 6G: Mac Pro Tower 'Sweet Spot'?
Do you have some SSDs for system and scratch? that often is where you can attack a bottleneck and improve performance.
Graphics can need as much RAM as possible. Dual or single cpu? many are choosing to install one or two faster cpus of the 3.4GHz variety to help.

  • Aliasing on Red and Blue color in ALL Flash Player video playback (including YouTube)

We have noticed that Flash Player does not smoothly decode the colors red or blue in video files (such as YouTube/Vimeo/similar), resulting in nasty aliasing on text/edges of solid colour. The problem occurs on both Mac and Windows platforms, tested with Flash Player 11.3 to 11.5 and demonstrated using the video below:
    https://vimeo.com/51914568
This video shows the issue clearly (you can switch between Vimeo's HTML5 Player to Flash Player. The red and green text is smoothly displayed in HTML5 Player or VLC/Quicktime Player). Note: watch in SD, not HD:
Only with Flash Player are edges aliased/jagged where they should be smooth. It's as if the resolution is dropped in half during the YUV decode.
I reported this today as  Bug 3351502
Here's hoping Adobe can get this sorted as it means the entire content of YouTube (for example) has poor quality video in Flash player.
You can also clearly see this on this cocacola advert:

In general, the most expedient way to get your issue in front of an engineer (and to track progress on it) is to file a bug at http://bugbase.adobe.com/
I actually filed a bug on your behalf a while back. It was reviewed by an engineer from the video team, and closed as a duplicate of this bug:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3324604
It sounds like the problem is specific to H.264 video encoded with 10-bit color.  You could re-encode your videos with 8-bit color as a temporary workaround to avoid the problem.  If you're seeing the same problem with 8-bit color, please let me know.
The bug is currently open and assigned to an engineer from the video team.

  • Choppy Playback - Video Card? Settings?

I am experiencing Choppy playback, I am using HD video recorded on a Flip Mino and a iPhone 4.
After getting numerous "dropped frames" warnings, I have transcoded my media to proxy video and still get choppy playback and dropped frame warnings (I have elected to turn off the warnings).
I have a late 2009 MacBook Pro with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB VRAM. 4GB of RAM.
I am selecting to use Proxy Video in my Preferences.
I use an external G Drive via FireWire.  I realized I am on the low end of video card requirements, but should playback be this bad?
I have to export to a MOV file to actually see playback without the frame drops.
Is this unusual, or am I limited by my video card?

That drive will work best for video editing compressed HD with the eSATA interface.  FW800 would also give you a few HD streams.  But, if you use the USB2 or FW400 interface, you're not going to be much better off than using your single drive.  That's called a "bottleneck."
Here's what you need to find out:
    1. Estimate what the data-rate is for the footage you want to use.  There are "data-rate calculators" all over the internet.  Use Google.
    2. Mulitply that data rate times the number of layers you want to play simultaneously in real-time.
    3. Install a drive AND interface combiniation that exceeds the "Sustained Data Transfer Rate" for the number you came up with in #2.
Then, if you drop frames, it's not because of your drive (array); it's due to puny CPU or some other factor.
Some codecs strain the CPU more than others.  Long-GOP codecs require more decoding to play back than intraframe codecs.  Most DSLR footage is Long-GOP, and some flavors of it take 100% of all eight of the 3GHz cores in my MacPro to play back one stream.  2 or 3 is out of the question, no matter how fast my RAID is.
So, it may be that drive speed isn't your problem... you may have just maxed out your CPU's ability to decode that many streams of video in real-time.
But, if you do the math I just suggested, you can determine whether your drive is the issue.

  • Facebook videos play, but foreground is blank white.

In internet explorer 11, running the latest version of flash, Facebook videos will load and play, but the video is replaced with a blank white box. I can hear sound, and when the bottom bar is visible the bottom portion of the video is visible in the background.
The flash player settings do come up on the object when right clicking and selecting 'Settings.' While the settings dialogue is up, the video is again visible in the background, faded.
I confirmed that videos play correctly in Google Chrome, but the computer's main user dislikes using other browsers. As far as I could conclude, videos on other sites play correctly.
I searched for solutions to this issue, but I have yet to find it described anywhere near the same, nor has any general solution or quick-fix worked yet.
    Things I have tried:
    Resetting IE settings
    Resetting IE advanced settings
Resetting IE advanced settings and personal data
    Disabling Hardware Acceleration
    Uninstalling & Reinstalling video drivers
    Uninstalling & Reinstalling IE11
    Uninstalling & Reinstalling Java
    Uninstalling & Reinstalling Flash
    Installing Shockwave player seperately
Uninstalling IE11, Java, and Flash, rebooting and cleaning up unused system files and registry errors, then reinstalling everything
None of these seem to have any effect.

    Start>Control Panel>Adobe Flash>check for updates from Adobe.
yes you will probably have to reboot.
    and/or
Start>Control Panel>Java JRT (Oracle Java RTE) check for updates from Oracle.

  • Does my mid 2010 macbook pro's displayport support audio (in addition to the video I know it supports)?

I have been using my displayport to drive a video only HDMI input by way of a displayport to DVI converter followed by a DVI to HDMI converter. It works great but of course there's no audio at the end of that chain because DVI is a video only connector.
That made me wonder... is my displayport outputting both audio and video which could be converted directly to HDMI (giving me both audio and video at the HDMI end)? How can I tell if my mid-2010 macbook pro's displayport connector is outputting both audio and video? My internet search is inconclusive about whether both are available on that connector for my mid 2010 model macbook pro.
    Thank you.

Hi, these MacBooks of 2010 support Audio through display port:
    MacBook Mid 2010 (GeForce 320M)
    MacBook Air 11 inch 2010 or 13 inch 2010 (Core 2 Duo)
    MacBook Pro 13 inch 2010 (GeForce 320M)
    MacBook Pro 15 inch 2010 or 17 inch 2010 (GeForce 330M),
No 2009 Macs support audio through DisplayPort
All 2011 and latter Macs support displayPort audio
so it looks like you can get audio if yo have the Macbook with Geforce 320M

  • CHOPPY FLASH VIDEO PLAYBACK WITH ADOBE FLASH VERSION 10-11

I'm  having a problem as described in a previous post re: Choppy flash videos, pictures, etc.. Youtube, megavideo any videos viewed online appear fine at first and then after 10-15 mins, start showing choppy. The audio was not a problem before, but I have noticed that it is being affected as well. I saw some posts on another forum a few days ago that recommended disabling flash player 11 in my chrome browser plugins and enabling verion 10 (which was available, but has since upgraded) and version 10 was working fine until it upgraded to 11 again. Now I have no options to revert to version 10 again.
    My system info is below:
    Sony:
    OS - Windows 7
    64 bit
    Browser Chrome 16.0.912.77
    Browser FireFox   9.0.1
    Browser IE 9
    Browser Safari 5.1.2
    Flash Player 11,1,102,55
McAfee (came with the upgrade of flash player)
This is very frustrating. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, rebooting the browser, my pc, deleting cache files and cookies...NOTHING IS WORKING. CPU usage is between 20-35% when a video is active in my browser. I think that is normal, but I know that the choppy playback is not and it's only getting worse. Please HELP!
I hope this NEW POST will suffice as per your requirements.

When the video is choppy, how much CPU and RAM usage is occurring?  Do you have a graphics control panel that shows how much video RAM is in use when the video is choppy?
Do you have a list of sites and videos where the video is choppy?
If you don't want the McAffee add-on, remove it.

  • HD video has choppy playback on timeline

    Equipment:
    New MacPro 2 X 2.93 GHz 6-Core intel Xeon
    12GBs Ram
Nvidia Quadro 4000 2048 MB video card
    Software 10.7.2
Video Card:  Kona 3 with 9.0.3 driver & 9.01 premier plugin
Videodrive:  7200 RPM 2 TB internal (not the system drive)  remaining space about 750 GB
    Adobe CS 5.5 software
I just switched from FCP 7 to CS5.5 including a new computer which I perceive is optimized for CS 5.5.  In playback my audio is choppy and dropping out some of the time, then if I stop and start the payback it will be fine, or sometimes there is no audio.  doesn't seem to be any consistencey in what will happen the next time I start playback.  On the timeline is a 1080i ProRes file I finished in FCP 7, then imported the video & audio file to Premier to make a couple of last minute changes.  Program is 50 minutes long.  I have the sequence setup as Kona 1080i compressed.  I imagine I have missed something very basic here, but don't have a clue what it could be.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thx...Jim Watt

    John,
I don't really think it's applicable in this particular situation.  I have just switched to PP for FCP-7.  All my FCP 7 shows are mastered in ProRes and this last one of course was too and it's the one I had to make a small change in.  I didn't see anything in the post you referred me to that suggests that PP cannot/will not play back proRes material.
At the moment I'm screening DVCPROHD 1080i material and I'm having the same problem with choppy playback/freezes and lost audio in the viewer.  I saw a post that came from Walter Biscardi for audio setup and followed that, which did seem to help a little, but the problem still exists.  This is what i did...
Audio...set preferences in Premier to "built in output" and also set audio mapping to same, set audio hardware to "built in output"  with caches at 1024
set computer preferences audio output to Kona card...
So I think this is some sort of setup that I have missed since I get identical problem with ProRes and DVCPROHD.  Any other sugestions will be most appreciated.  I'll give AJA a call tomorrow if I can't find a fix on the forum.
    thx...jw

  • Video playback in ALL applications stutters while using battery only.

Video playback in ALL applications stutters while using battery only. All OK when running from power adaptor. New battery did not fix. Recently updated iTunes to 11.0.5 and Flash player 11.8.800.94 .

    Thank you again andyBall_uk.
I have successfully run Apple Hardware Test and it returned the error code...
    4SNS/1/40000001:VPOR
A  Google search reveals that this is a sensor error. The "V" of VPOR indicates a voltage sensor and the "P" indicates the sensor is on the Power bus. However don't yet know what the "OR" refers to.
I have had a non operative optical disk drive for a year or more but the fault with the video only developed in the last week or two. Could the "O" in VPOR refer to the Optical drive?
By the way, I got the impression from the instructions on running the Apple Hardware Test that I had to use the internal dvd drive to run the APT program from the install disk. But this turned out to be not the case. Just put install disk ito an external drive plugged into the usb ports and use system preferences to set this drive as the start up disk.

  • Facebook video cannot click adobe flash player pop up

When recording a facebook video on a friend's wall, an adobe flash player message pops up asking if I allow facebook.com to have access to my camera and microphone, with the options of allow or deny.  In order to record a video, I must hit allow, but I am unable to click anything at all.  Does anyone know how to solve this issue?  I read a few forums from 1-2 years ago where people had the same issue, but no one had a solution.  Can anyone help?

FOUND A SOLUTION FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM:
Note the following workaround (far from sufficient for customers, but good enough for feature development): Go to System Preferences > Flash Player > Camera and Mic > Camera and Microphone Settings by Site... Find the site you want to allow and change "Ask me" to "Allow". This bypasses the dialog and allows recording to proceed normally.
this seems to be a common problem with lion and adobe. i did this and it fixed my problem!

  • What is the workaround to play facebook videos on my iPad without Flash?

I get frustrated everytime I take my iPad out with me and people want to see videos I've posted (or others have posted) on facebook.  Of course the warning comes up saying I need to install "Flash."  Well, we know that won't work.  Does anyone know another way to play facebook videos?  If this can't be done - EASILY, I'm afraid the current iPad will also be my last.  This is a showstopper issue.

What is confusing Meg is the fact that I have a bunch of Architectural Engineers that think they can do everything on a Tablet.
With dozens of them floundering between PC's and Macs all with their own tablet (BYOD). I have to keep everyone with the flow of production. And I have my own projects to complete. It gets where I would like to do away with all PC's when Microsoft releases IE 11 on Windows 7 and then everyone is complaining about "Facebook doesn't play video's".
That I can deal with by locking them down because I have beeen doing PC CADD management for over 30+ years.
Why the "Powers that be" let the nimnod goofballs that really don't get their work done is beyound my comprehension.
It is bad enough dealing with Microsoft because Apple to me is so easy, because it just works. Linix on a few dedicated miniservers and Windows Servers with Exchange is OK because I can assign rights and control that segment of the Architects, Engineers and CADD Personel.
But when I am supporting iPads, iPhones, Android devices, yes it gets confusing and I am fixing to set a policy of if it doesn't work then they are they assigned the lowest piroity as work needs to get done.
Only a few good A/E people that do surveys on-site do I even take care of. The rest are playing on facebook as I have restricted the use of it on our company Network, Intranet and Internet.
Too much for one person to do with over 40 employees that can really be done.
I am responable for the UNIX boxes that run our highend CAD software as well as the renderings, animations & Plotting, 2D & 3D.
We produce all that for the clients to drool over, usually at a meeting out of the house and on a iPad. Those are owned by the company I work for and I never have real issues with them as I check them out and don't let them go home with anyone but a principle of the Firm.
Anyway, thank you for straightning me out and your kind words will not be forgotten.
    Peace & God Bless... ~ Kent ~

  • ITunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) did not fix choppy playback

After reading all the other posts I tried installing the (64 bit for older video cards) and it did not solve my choppy playback with Music or Movies.  I am running windows 8.1, Intel i7-4500U CPU @ 1.8GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64-bit OS, x64 based processor, DELL Inspirion 15.  Never had problems until upgrading to 8.1 from 8.0.

Did you see if changing the Play Audio Using select in Edit > Preferences > Playback to "Direct Sound" resolves the issue?  Otherwise you may want to consider rolling back to 12.0 and waiting until a future release is shown to resolve the playback issues in 12.1.  See Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • Video playback "choppy" when play 2 full HD videos together

    Hi,
Recently I have a project that is to have 2 full HD video playback on 2 full HD resolution monitors. I am using flex in Air by having 2 windows opened when the program is launched, auto fullscreen on both monitor and then play videos. The videos are in f4v format. But the problem is the video playback is "choppy" when playback 2 full HD video together. My development PC is Corei7 920 with Geforce GTS250. This project will actually runs on Corei7 2600 with intel graphic chipset PC which I haven't test on the performance.
How can I solve the "choppy" playback issue? Thanks.

Flash Player full-screen video is an intensive process, but because it's running in a 32-bit environment it doesn't really help if the hardware has loads of extra RAM and multi-core processors. As you're using the decoupled version of the Acrobat Family, it only has an impact in terms of the decompression of the stream data when the annotation first activates.
What is the original video spec?
Are your rich media annotations set to deactivate automatically when the user moves to the next page? By default they deactivate only when the user context-clicks, so you can have a series of inactive-but-loaded instances fighting for attention.

  • Choppy Playback of Videos

Installed iTunes 8 on an older PC (XP, 2GHZ single core AMD athalon, 512 RAM). The playback is very choppy and almost unwatchable. Theses are iTunes purchases as well. I've never had any issue with poor video playback before, but then again I've never tried to play iTunes store videos. I also noticed that itunes is using anywhere between 65%-82% of my CPU when playing these videos and ~53MB.
is this an iTunes 8 problem, or is my comp just not up to playing iTunes store videos.

I have the same problem here. Some research on older topics gave me this discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=149
It seems it was a know problem in previous ITunes versions. I have 3 PCS in my house, one with Vista and two with XP installed. In all of them video playback stops by 10 seconds of plaback, keeps freezed by 2 or 3 seconds, and then return. If we play video files in other softwares, like QuickTime, everything works fine. Any solutions?
    Thank you.
