Choppy video/audio playback after two suspend/resume cycles?

Hello!
Today I figured out, that my video and audi playback becomes choppy after two or more suspend-cycles. Can somebody confirm this?
I'm running a up-to-date Archlinux on my ThinkPad t430s. Several applications are affected: mplayer (virtual terminal), totem (Gnome 3), IOQuake3 (OpenGL is fine, but sound is choppy too).
I wonder if I'm the only one?

I tried it like described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … omments/22
Sadly it seems not to work for me.
// Update:
Ufff, looks weird to me at all.
1. Seem not to occure with Kernel 3.6.x, but with Kernel 3.7.x
2. Suspending/Resuming again maybe fix the issue, i.e. try to manually suspend with pm-suspend (uses a buch of quirks and so on and not only plain "suspend" from system) instead with systemd (systemctl suspend, is also used by GNOME or KDE internals)

  • [SOLVED] Vaio power usage after suspend/resume cycle

    Hi,
I came to the conclusion my laptop (Sony Vaio VPCSB36FG/B) suffers from one particular issue:
After a suspend/resume cycle, the discrete card in the laptop (Radeon HD6470M) is powered on again, although /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch still reports the contrary.
This explains why the laptop is using ~5W more after a suspend/resume cycle. I can blacklist the radeon module on boot, but then the discrete card is powered on when the laptop is started. And since the module is blacklisted, there is no way to disable the card using vgaswitcheroo.
Unfortunately, blacklisting the module (on boot) and manually loading the module after boot, then switching the card off (using vgaswitcheroo) and removing the module results in either a display driver crash or the message: "radeon module is in use".
For the record, I'm using the open source driver for both cards (i915 & radeon).
My guess is, the only way to prevent the card from being powered on after a suspend/resume cycle is to make sure the radeon module is not enabled at all before suspending the laptop, but I'm wondering how to achieve this.
    Any suggestions please?

Okay, this workaround seems to work, at least manually:
    1. Before suspending, the discrete card should be powered on (suspending seems to be a little slower now):
    echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
    2. After resume, one is able to turn off the discrete again:
    echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
Now I just need to figure out how to automate this in a nicely fashion.

  • Video audio stops after like 20/30 sec

    Hey,
I got videos on my ipod video 60 gb I'm sure they work fine because they worked fine when I just put them on.
But after a while when I installed the new software the audio stops after 20/30 sec. It likes freezes for half a second and the audio stops. When I forward the video or rewind the audio works again. Does anyone has the same problem? Or does anyone know how to fix this email me plz [email protected]

If you have the latest software installed (version 1.1), then you may find that rolling back to the previous version helps. There are hundreds of posts here on the forum like yours. Here's one for you to read.

  • Windows 7 (64bit)  itunes choppy stuttering audio playback

    Hi All,
I'm new to these forums so apologise in advance if this topic has been covered already....
I recently upgraded my Dell to Windows 7 64 bit and also upgraded iTunes/ QuickTime to the 64 bit version which resulted in audio playback in iTunes stuttering every few seconds. I waited for the latest release thinking it must be a bug which apple are addressing. Just installed it (ver. 10.1.056) but the problems is still there. I’ve tweaked quick time, installed the newest possible audio drivers, for my soundcard nothing makes any difference. If i use windows media player to play my music its absolutely fine , no stuttering , no problems at all. So why can't apple get their act together?
Has anyone else experienced this problem or found a fix? if so please get in touch.
    Thanks for reading
    Dave

I have a similar problem. I recently got a new laptop with Windows 7 64-Bit. I've started to rebuild my iTunes library and it was all going well. However, I noticed a lot of my files are starting to loop the first second or so of the intro for around 6 seconds before the song plays normally. At the time, I didn't think of this as a problem, but the exact same looping occurs on the iPod itself on the same files, at the same time, everytime.
After deleting the broken files and getting new versions of the same songs, I decided to test them in Windows Media Player first and there was no intro looping. Assuming all was well, I added these files to iTunes, tidied up the song info, added album art and then played the tracks to see if the looping was still gone. Some of the tracks were fine, but others had developed the intro looping. Playing these same files in Windows Media Player again, after running them throgh iTunes, also now has the looping which it previously did not.
iTunes seems to be destroying my files. Is there any way to fix this?

  • How should i export already h.264 compressed video/audio files after i edit them?

I am recording gameplay footage off computer with a program that compresses the video and audio. After I edit the footage how should i export it? I don't want to lose quality by double compressing it.

    Michael Holmes1 wrote:

    No.
You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.
    Andy.

  • Trivial Video/Audio playback weirdness:  a simple question

fire up my system this morning and fire up the old g3 so i can listen to boot liquor radio on itunes radio and i'm making some finishing color adjustments on some sequences. all is fine and dandy. turn down the g3 and turn up my jvc vtr so i can monitor the audio on a qc playback so i can label this particular sequence as ready for mpeg2 compression. hmmmm, no audio is getting through to my vtr. ***?
check the connections, all the cables, run a tape with audio and everything's good. restarts and relaunches later and still no audio is getting to my vtr but i have firewire video and i also have machine control which is rs422 anyway.
scratching my head, i toggle through the video playback options. for some odd reason i had video playback as Apple Firewire DVCPRO NTSC (720x480). the second i switched to Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480) i had audio playback via firewire thru my vtr.
    hmmmmm.
switch over to my panther boot drive, fire up fcp 4.5, look at the video and audio playback and i'm using Apple Firewire DVCPRO NTSC there and i get video and audio playback thru my vtr.
i could have sworn before 5.1, i was getting audio in the same setting as well.
searched the manual and i cannot find a reason for this. what is the difference between Apple Firewire DVCPRO NTSC playback and Apple Firewire NTSC playback? why would my audio follow one and not the other?
it's a burning question that will stay with me, at least until i have another spaten oktoberfest.
    thanks!
    zebbie

what is the difference between Apple Firewire
DVCPRO NTSC playback and Apple Firewire NTSC
    playback?
    Protocol
turn up my jvc vtr so i can...
I believe the "DVCPRO" is specifically for
    Panasonic.
this describes control, not playback of video or audio. plus, i use the dvcpro firewire setting for playback of audio and video in fcp 4.5. as described earlier, i already have rs422 control.
At least you tried looking in the manual
no, i didn't "try" looking in the manual, i did look in the manual.
    thanks anyway.

worked out of our system so our Flash Media Server (version 2.0)
will work correctly. The latest issue under our load test was
choppy video and audio. The load test was to see if our network and
hardware could handle 15 concurrent connections and of course
something caused the test to fail. Our network and server engineers
say their stuff all checked out only used 20% of network bandwidth
at the most. The server barely hit 5% CPU usage. It has been
suggested a few different times to incorporate a buffer. I don't
really want to do this, because it seems to be a patch on a problem
somewhere. Plus, I also read that buffers in streaming video are
somewhat irrelevant because as soon as the user seeks forward or
backward the buffer is dumped, which would put me right back in the
boat with choppy video again until the server is able to establish
another buffer while streaming the video.
Here is some info on the video we used for test:
    - 400kb per second
    - On2 VP6 Codec
    - Frames per second (same as source) (video was ripped from
    dvd quality quicktime file.)
    - 96kbps audio
    - 720 x 480 video size (The reason we went so large on the
video is because we wanted to test a “worse case
scenario” if a video that size were ever requested we would
    know if it was possible.)
    - Running on Windows 2003 server and FMS v2.0
    Here are my questions:
    1. Shouldn't the FMS stream a video of this size to 15
concurrent connections without experiencing any kind of lagging or
    choppy video?
    2. Should I incorporate a buffer into the video to smooth
    over the choppy places?
    Thank you for your help!
    Eric

Good to know...I have to admit that it is a little difficult
to find good tutorials on this kind of stuff. I've spent the past 3
hours trying to find a tutorial on how to get the "dual buffer"
technique with FLVPlayback since FLVPlayback seems to be the option
that Adobe steers most people to use. Maybe because that's the
easiest way to get video up and running for new comers (like myself
to flash video) like the Spry stuff in Dreamweaver. I've never used
the Spry stuff because I hear it's bulk, plus I already know how to
create most of that stuff with only what I need. It sounds like Net
Stream is the way to go, but will require more work to get the end
    result I want.
Obviously, I don't know much about the whole streaming video
stuff, but I guess I'll be considered an expert if I can ever get
this FMS utilized properly and my Net Stream up and running. My
understanding when we bought this server was that it was pretty
much plug'n play and the FMS ensured smooth video playing with no
problems. I didn't know I had to do all this...
    Thanks again fmslove!

  • Itunes choppy audio playback after update of software...no help in site!!!!

I have updated my itunes in the past month and am getting ready to abandon itunes all together (though I have loved it up until now!) All of my audio plays back so choppy you can not make out one word of any song. I purchase quite a bit of music and it is now useless! I have gone onto the web and spent hours searching for help only to discover there are lots of people out there with the same problem and apple seems to be doing nothing. I found another couple post on the forums with no reponse. I did find after some research on google that you should adjust the sample/bit rate on quicktime and it should help, this is not true. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could someone from itunes/apple team give me a solution for my purchased songs?
Dell Xps 410   Windows XP Pro

We apparently have a major problem with "Paid for" merchandise that is NOT being supported by itunes/Apple
My hope here is that this site IS being moderated by some apple techs, but I am not seeing much. If you dig into the archives of this message board you will see a few of us out there that have been trying to get this resolved for a while and there are NO replies to their messages. Also I would like to state that apple makes it nearly impossible to find a good e-mail address that would go to anybody for help. We need to try and keep this topic on top of the message board to get it looked at by the right person. I don't understand the computer being under resourced though, I am running a dual processor and have 2 gig of ram.... my audio never plays correctly now regardless of itunes being opened alone of with any other applications. I NEED TO HAVE MY PAID FOR MUSIC BACK!
sorry-- had to get that off my chest.
    Thanks for your support

  • System does not turn off after halt after successful suspend-resume

I have the following problem: when I try to shut down my laptop after it resumed from suspend to ram. It seems to shut down normally until, at the very end, it reaches the system halted part (which you wouldn't even be able to read if the system would actually halt). I'm running an updated system, no testing, on an Dell Latitude E6400. The system shuts down normally if I don't suspend it.
Any ideas? What additional information do you need?

I meant: turn off via 'sudo init 0' instead of 'sudo halt', not after.
Ok, wasn't sure. Isn't "sudo halt" effectively the same thing? How are they different?

  • Issues with video/audio playback and Source window

I have some video that I am trying to import to get into my sequence. Anytime I open the video into my source window (or drag it to the timeline), the audio goes crazy. It starts skipping around and jumbling itself. When I open the video file in Quicktime on my computer, it opens and plays fine. Also, I don't know if it is unrelated, but sometimes when I open a video in my Source window, there is no audio. I can drag it to the Sequence and double click on it to bring the Sequence video into the Source window and it plays fine.
The video that I am having issues with is a .mov filmed from an iPad (not sure which iPad model). It is filmed in Portrait mode, not sure if that matters. Please let me know what other information might be needed to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thanks!

    Ooh. Sorry about that.
    - I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 v.6.0.3
    - I'm sure I have the latest update. I'm using Creative Cloud, and the Adobe Application Update Manager says everything is up to date.
    - Operating System is Windows 7 Professional (Service Pack 1)
    - Source footage is a .mov filmed in portrait mode (I didn't record it.. Haha) on an iPad, not sure the model.
    - I am getting no error messages.
    - I was just dragging the video file from the Media Browser to the Source window. Nothing special.
    - This is working on all of the other clips filmed from the same iPad at same resolution, etc. Also, this particular video plays perfectly in Quicktime. It's just when I try to play it in Premiere Pro.
    - Other software that is currently running is standard stuff: antivirus, Outlook, Gtalk, Dropbox. Nothing that uses audio.
    - I have installed K-Lite Codec pack when I got the computer.
    - I have a Dell Preision T7600, Dual Xeon Quad-core processors (2.00GHz), 16 GBs of ram, Nvidia Quadro 4000 (2GB), and running off of a 256GB SSD.
    - I am using the Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration.
    - The issue is happening on playback, both in the Source window and the Program window when I drag the video to the Sequence. It plays fine in Quicktime.

  • Problems sharing to tape/ choppy video/audio

I have finished a project and when I go to share it back to the tape on the camera sometimes it goes fine but mostly it come accross choppy and somtimes the video actually freezes while the audio continues. Anyone know a fix for this?
    G4 Cube   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hi k_pixie:
    Welcome to the discussion!
Sorry it took so long for someone to respond...
Try this: Export to Quicktime, and choose the DV stream option. Open a new iMovie project, import the DV, then export this version to the camcorder.
Reboot before starting the imovie again.

  • Fast audio playback after recording overlay in CS4- How can I slow it down play at regular speed?

I have a video that I am trying to record audio narration over and everytime I record the audio (as I have done many times in the past) it goes on the time as a shorter clip that plays back at a faster speed causing me to sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks. What am I doing wrong and how do I get it to play and record in real time speed? The video speed is uneffected and plays normally?
    Thanks!

Great- I think that would fix the issue but how do I set my recording to
    32,000- it's recording at 48,000 now?

  • Video & Audio unsynced after update-Vision M:3

Hi,I'm experiencing unsynced video and audio with my player when I was waching a movie that I paused. I needed to watch that movie from the beginning to avoid this problem. So, I've updated my player and it seems that the update is not helping either. The movie's video and audio are unsynced as I started watching. I just need to know what should I do because it really bothers me. Please help!

I use AVS Video Converter from http://www.avsmedia.com/. I think it costs about $30 if I remember right. It converts practically?everything that isn't protected. They even have presets for the Zen Vision, although not for the Vision:M or Vision:W. However, it lets you easily make your own presets. The program is fast and very easy to use once you learn it. However, there is a bit of a learning curve. It has a good, simple interface but they don't hold your hand. The help is also very good. I've been using it for about 2 years and I'm glad I have it. By the way, I'm a customer of theirs and I don't get anything out of posting this. Barry?

  • WWDC 2008 Choppy Video/Audio

Hi there, I have tried several times over the last several days to watch the WWDC 2008 Keynote Address at different times of the day and night, but the video is way, way too choppy to watch.
I am running QuickTime Pro 7.4.5 on my Core 2 Duo iMac running Mac OS X 10.5.3, more than enough power to watch a video. And I have a 2mbps cable connection!
I have watched previous year's keynotes on my dual processor G4 Powermac without a hitch, with a 512kbps connection.
Using QuickTime Pro is it possible to save the keynote streaming video to my local hard drive as a QuickTime movie?
Why doesn't Apple allow for the keynote address to be downloaded as a movie, to watch later, as an alternative to streaming it?
Is the complete keynote address available elsewhere on the web (e.g. at YouTube)?
    Come on Apple...

"Using QuickTime Pro is it possible to save the keynote streaming video to my local hard drive as a QuickTime movie?
Why doesn't Apple allow for the keynote address to be downloaded as a movie, to watch later, as an alternative to streaming it?"
Yes there are several ways to download the Keynote. Apple has always allowed downloading their Keynotes.
The easiest way if you use FireFox is to go to:
    FireFox>Tools>Page Info>Media
Copy paste the URL into FF URL window.
    Then go to:
    File>Save File as...
Download the file onto your desktop.
Sorry, I do not use Safari. Hopefully, a knowledgeable Safari user will come along & provide detailed instructions.
Another way is to play the Keynote then go to:
    QuickTime Player>Window>Show Movie Inspector
Copy paste the Keynote URL into your browser's URL window.
    Same download instructions as above.
BTW: Apple does not read these forums. These are user-to-user forums where everyday folk post questions and offer answers to each other.
However, you can always notify Apple of your concerns through QuickTime Feedback.
"Is the complete keynote address available elsewhere on the web (e.g. at YouTube)?"
Google is your best friend when it comes to searching.
