Choppy video. Like i made it with a phone!!

Ok, not that bad.
But i'm importing video, and it appears awful choppy and jumpy. Last night i impoterd from one tape. Worked great. This moring i was importing, and the FW cable was pulled out of my camcorder dock. When i started again, iMovie was importing choppy video, but my camcorder shows it nice and smooth.
Any advice?
*nathan

Do you know if the Apple 4-6 pin FW cables are any better than just a regular one i picked up?
I have seen reports of cheap FW cables that didn't work, but that was years ago. Just make sure the cable is shielded and it should be OK.

  • Can an iphone4 be used on a wifi connection like an iPod touch with out phone service? Apps etc?

If I have an iphone 4 and want to use it w out a cellular phone service is that possible with a wifi connection to use apps and the App Store like an iPod touch is used w a wifi service?

Yes it can be used as an iPod without cellular service but using WiFi when needed.  I recommend, however, that you keep your Sim card even after it is no longer active either on the iPhone or stored somewhere, as you would need it to be there if you need to re-activate the iPhone after a restore, should you ever need to do one.

  • Choppy video playback/loosing frames.

I've had my iMac G5 for about a year and a half but for the 5-6 months i've noticed that Quicktime movies (My quicktime movies that i've made myself and are stored on my hd) can't be played back without them loosing frames or being "choppy" - it eventually catches up - but I may have lost an entire sentence from the person in the video - this happens with any videos I watch - not just quicktime - stuff on iTunes, recordings from EyeTV do this also - not as much - but these are usually Mpeg-2 and are recording in the best quality option possible.
although if i'm watching TV from EyeTV, I have no problem - or if i'm importing video into iMovie - no problems - it's playback that does this.
it's almost as if i'm watching a streaming clip on the internet - with a bad connection. but these videos are mine - saved to the computer.
my iMac is a 2nd generation with the ambient light sensor, and I have 1 GB or Memory - I don't know what else you may need to know about my computer model - but if you think you can help, but need more info - just ask!
    thanks.

Choppy video like you describe is almost always caused by too many demands on your hard drive. EyeTV works fine when watching live TV because Live TV is not written to or read from the hard drive.
The most common cause of this would be that your hard drive is too full. For best performance, try to keep at least 15% of your hard drive space free. This gives the computer some room to breathe. If your drive was severely fragmented, it may take awhile before movies will play properly again.
You may have too many programs open. This could cause the computer to use more virtual memory, which increases hard drive usage. In addition, running another disk-intensive program can cause movies to skip.
You may have a performance problem with the drive. If you have multiple hard drives, try playing the movie from another drive.
You may have a filesystem structure issue on a drive. In some cases, these issues can result in poor performance. Run Disk Utility to test the drive. Any number of other common system fixes (repair permissions etc.) may help with this as well.

  • Choppy video playback with airplay from Macbook Pro

I experience very choppy video using airplay towards my Airplay unit (3rd gen).
I am using a Macbook Pro (15" retina, late 2013 version) with these specifications:
    - Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz.
    - 16 GB ram.
    - 768 GB flash/SSD.
...and so on. I have the Mavericks OS installed (10.9.1).
When I duplicate or extend the screen of the computer to my Apple TV it is chopping EXTREMELY much. I am not talking a little bit - but it is not even watchable. I thought that it could be the router itself as the connection is (probably, correct me if I am wrong anyone) is directed from the computer - to the router - and then to the Apple TV, which could make the router like a filter in the process. And if something would prevent the signal from reaching the Apple TV with "full speed" it could prevent the actuall image.
However, when I am using the iPhone 4S and streaming video (both video found in my phone as well as streamed TV from apps such as Magine.com) the image flows completely flawless. There are not even a touch of lagging. It flows perfect, just as watching a movie directly on the TV.
The networking hardware in the phone is slower than in the Macbook Pro retina (late 2013) - both for sending and recieving data. But still... my iPhone works better than the Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Even though that the processing, memory, graphic and networking power is probably a thousand times faster in the computer... it still performs really bad.
I have followed some discussion threads here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22051725#22051725 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5734226?tstart=0 just as a couple of examples). I have accessed my router (Netgear Gigabit EVG 2000) and increased the Wireless mode to "up to 270 Mbps. I have also followed the previously linked threads and disabled the WMM (in the QoS-section). I felt that this made a little bit of a difference...
...when I am mirroring the screen and scale down the resolution to match the AirPlay screen (full-HD, 1920 x 1080) it works okay, but still chops quite a bit almost all the time. But if I extend the screen and want to watch TV at the same time as I am doing something else on the computer - then it chops so that it is not even possible to watch.
This have to be something either with the Mavericks OS or with my network settings - can anyone help me...? It would mean A LOT!

Curious why you think it would be my network when the same network is being used by the iPad 3rd Gen and iPhone 5 and they both stream without issue. As far as the other items you mentioned, all devices are up-to-date with the latest firmware/software and the latest MacBooks do not have ethernet ports. Speedtests that I have conducted also indicate that bandwidth is not the issue as the results show that the speeds received from the router are quite impressive.

  • Choppy Video/Audio with FMS 2

    Hello,
My internet group and I have been trying to get the bugs
worked out of our system so our Flash Media Server (version 2.0)
will work correctly. The latest issue under our load test was
choppy video and audio. The load test was to see if our network and
hardware could handle 15 concurrent connections and of course
something caused the test to fail. Our network and server engineers
say their stuff all checked out only used 20% of network bandwidth
at the most. The server barely hit 5% CPU usage. It has been
suggested a few different times to incorporate a buffer. I don't
really want to do this, because it seems to be a patch on a problem
somewhere. Plus, I also read that buffers in streaming video are
somewhat irrelevant because as soon as the user seeks forward or
backward the buffer is dumped, which would put me right back in the
boat with choppy video again until the server is able to establish
another buffer while streaming the video.
Here is some info on the video we used for test:
    - 400kb per second
    - On2 VP6 Codec
    - Frames per second (same as source) (video was ripped from
    dvd quality quicktime file.)
    - 96kbps audio
    - 720 x 480 video size (The reason we went so large on the
video is because we wanted to test a “worse case
scenario” if a video that size were ever requested we would
    know if it was possible.)
    - Running on Windows 2003 server and FMS v2.0
    Here are my questions:
    1. Shouldn't the FMS stream a video of this size to 15
concurrent connections without experiencing any kind of lagging or
    choppy video?
    2. Should I incorporate a buffer into the video to smooth
    over the choppy places?
    Thank you for your help!
    Eric

Good to know...I have to admit that it is a little difficult
to find good tutorials on this kind of stuff. I've spent the past 3
hours trying to find a tutorial on how to get the "dual buffer"
technique with FLVPlayback since FLVPlayback seems to be the option
that Adobe steers most people to use. Maybe because that's the
easiest way to get video up and running for new comers (like myself
to flash video) like the Spry stuff in Dreamweaver. I've never used
the Spry stuff because I hear it's bulk, plus I already know how to
create most of that stuff with only what I need. It sounds like Net
Stream is the way to go, but will require more work to get the end
    result I want.
Obviously, I don't know much about the whole streaming video
stuff, but I guess I'll be considered an expert if I can ever get
this FMS utilized properly and my Net Stream up and running. My
understanding when we bought this server was that it was pretty
much plug'n play and the FMS ensured smooth video playing with no
problems. I didn't know I had to do all this...
    Thanks again fmslove!

  • How can I adjust the contrast of video on my MacBook Pro Retina so they don't look like they were filmed with an old sock over the lens?

I'd like to watch movies and TV shows, downloaded from iTunes or Amazon, on my MacBook Pro Retina, but they all look like they were filmed with an old sock over the lens. Daytime sequences look muddy, and night time sequences are incomprehensible with anything but the brightest objects rendered as black. I can watch the same files on my old MacBook Air and everything looks right, but no manner of tweaking seems to let me watch movies on my new machine.
I've tried adjusting the gamma. It's a bit better when gammas is set to 1.0, but I can't seem to set a gamma less than one. I tried using the Accessibility Contrast control, but it just lowers the contrast, swallowing my desktop into the dark abyss. I tried Applecare, but they don't have a clue. I tried the Apple Store. The "genius" confirmed that it is indeed impossible to watch movies shot anywhere but in the brightest sunlight on a MacBook Pro Retina, and it isn't just my machine, but every similar model in the store. He arranged for someone who really understands color profiles to give me a call, but Apple seems to have dropped the ball on this.
Is there some tool for stretching out the darker grays in Apple video? I don't want calibration. My impression is that my display, like the dozens I checked at the Apple Store are calibrated to make all dimmer grays appear completely black. I want uncalibration so I can actually see what is going on in the movies even if something is in a light shadow or shot at night. Hollywood has lots of trained technicians who can light and shoot night scenes that are quite comprehensible. I've watched a number of such scenes on my old MacBook Air. Now, I'd like to enjoy their artistry on my MacBook Pro Retina.

http://www.ifixit.com/ has directions for do it yourself.  Also look at PRAM battery instructions, as sometimes this can fix optical drive issues.
You can get external or internal drives from http://www.macsales.com/
I also suggest in the future, take care of this problem while it is still under warranty. It may have cost you nothing.

Unfortunately logging into your account won't help, because then I don't have access to Illustrator.
I was just trying around a little if you could share it with me, but unfortunately sharing doesn't seem to work with Draw files. You could try and find someone near you who also has an iPad and Illustrator and then try to send it to them via AirDrop. But I don't know if that actually shares the file or just a PNG.
Maybe someone on the Draw forum has an idea how you could send the file to someone else.

who is going to help me out and atleast pay attention to what my problem is. apple seems to ignore my attempts to show them what is the problem... the dont even want to see the videos.. !! disgusting.
its still under warrenty. please help.

Take your iPhone to an Apple Store or authorized service center in the country where you purchased the iPhone and they will look at it and replace it under warranty if applicable.
If you cannot take it person contact them to determine how to send them your phone.
You can't expect them to replace your iPhone without first examining it.

Love the Adobe products first. OK , I have my instructional coaches creating power point presentation add audio to each slide with the presenter 10 add ins. I need these presentation converted into MP4 like you can do with adobe presenter video creator.

If you import the PPT deck into Captivate it will not bring the audio from Presenter. But you can import it into Captivate after the slide deck has been imported. The audio files aren't necessarily named in a logical fashion in the source files for the presentation, so I would recommend that you publish the presentation locally and then find the 'data' folder in the published output and the audio files will be named in a way that you can infer the slide they are associated with. Not the simplest proceedure but it should be pretty painless.

  • Video Lagging/Choppy videos on Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I am having a problem while watching videos online: video lagging/choppy videos. Sometimes the video is stuck in a certain frame although I still have the sound on the background; sometimes the video slows down completely (frame+sound). It started around one month ago, and exists in several different websites, I couldn`t solve it by myself. I am not very good with computers. I tried to uninstall/reinstall flash player, as well as disable hardware acceleration, and the problem is still there. Also somedays the videos are working fine, and somedays they are all bad independent of websites. I tried to use different browsers (chrome/firefox/safari), but the problem persists.
I am using a Macbook Pro and bought it in the beginning of January this year (right now it is running OS X 10.7.4) with flash player version 11.2.202.235.
I would very much appreciate if you can help me.
    Thanks.

mellskucukoglu, uninstall all adobe products then install Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, Adobe Air, Adobe Shockwave Player. Make sure to select the operating system correctly behind the link. Turn off your antivirus till you finish installation as suggested below the webpage. If it still doesn't work check for OS X 10.7.4 updates.
If it still doesn't work then go for Adobe Live chat in this link http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html . Sometimes they are busy. If they can't help. Think about any changes that you made before this issue like installaling any new apps. Uninstall them. If it still doesn't work then install Adobe Flash Professional CS 6. After installing check for adobe updates and update them all. It should work at this point.  If not ,watch this

  • Choppy Video TV GO Android

Hello. Apologies if this has been asked before but I'd like to know if its a unique problem pertaining to just me.  Phone: HTC One M7 GSM Google Play EditionOS: Android Lollipop 5.1 Issue: Choppy Video. I use Xfinity TV Go to watch shows with my Chromecast through the Screen Mirroring option. I noticed that the video surprisingly has no lag (meaning the lips and sound sync great) but the video does not play at a constant 30fps. At first I thought it was the mirroring that was causing the issue. But then I realized it was playing the same way when watching video my phone as well.  Now my phone is more than powerful to play the video. My internet speed was much much more than adequate to play the video. So the problem lies with the app or some sort of incompatibility with my phone and os combo specifically. Its weird but it seems like some sort of buffering issue? Its not the normal stuttering I've seen before due to internet speed or phone hardware issues. Quality is just fine.  I can give a bug report if need be. Please just ask. Thanks!

Just switched the video quality to Medium and it seems to have made the video run much smoother. Hope this helps. BTW the post above was not a solution. It didn't completely fix the problem for one and for two it shouldn't be choppy at high quality anyways. Thanks.

  • Slow FPS, graphics and choppy video when connected to a Mini-DVI cable to external monitor on Macbook Mid2007 4GB RAM

    Hi,
I have a Mid-2007 Macbook white. I have upgraded its memory to 4GB. Snow Leopard was working great, and I said to myself maybe it's time to upgrade to Lion.
After the upgrade all was well. However, a big problem occurs when I plug in to the Mini-DVI display port with the HDMI adapter, to connect to my Sony LCD HDTV. The whole graphics and video slow down, everything is choppy. Quicktime and VLC video playback is strobe and choppy looks like very low Frame Rate. Cannot watch anything, not HD nor low resolutions. The entire computer is slow when the cable is connected.
    Things I tried:
*VGA adapter seems to work fine - it's the digital display output that probably causes that.
*Running it through a new user.
This never happened on Snow Leopard. i'm considering to go back. However, I am wondering if there is a way to fix this minor problem.

    Update:
We solved the problem. Weird solution but now it seems to work. I plugged a VGA adpater and played with the screen rsolutions to try and watch a movie well on my LCD screen. I changed the screen resolutions but I couldn't revert back to the default settings. Pressing "Detect Displays" didn't do anything.
Here is the interesting part: When I placed back the DVI-HDMI adapter, suddenly everything worked fine!!! There was no choppy videos, no low fps, works prefect.
Something weird is going on here, but I'm happy I managed to get the DVI to HDMI to work because I was about to removie Lion and bring back Snow Leopard.
