Choppy video on blazing fast connection

Hi, we just set up FMS and basically what's happening is im using the standard run-of-the mill FLVplayback component and I try to run a video (an MP4) file which is streamed through FMS. The video plays, but intermittently chops.
Next test:
Akamai SMIL file with sthe same player plays totally smoothe, no problems.
Next test:
Put new video on FMS server (video chops intermittently) - we  then go right next to the server, with literally a 300K second download speed. Still chops.
Next test:
Try different media, same thing.
So essentially the FMS server CANNOT stream any videos properly. Its not a bandwidth issue, and it makes no sense.
I try different video players, tried changing the bufferTime properties, same thing. The FMS server is running at 0% cpu and is a fast machien.
Any ideas? FMS settings I can do to get optimal performance?

well first of all your video playback componet has a  huge area try to
change it to 320 x 240 also
try using rtmpt intstead of rtmp

  • Choppy video streaming from samba on wireless network

    Hey all,
I have a macbook pro with leopard 10.5.7 installed. The server setup is a Linux server running samba which is wired to a wireless router. I connect my macbook pro wirelessly to the router. Everything is all set up; my computer can connect to the server and browse the files without a problem. However, when I try to watch videos stored on my server through samba, the video is extremely choppy and practically unwatchable. I know this is a wireless problem with my macbook pro because my windows desktop has no problems at all watching videos over the wireless connection and when I wire the laptop directly to the router, the video streams just fine i.e, no choppiness. I have browsed the fourms and the internet but no solution has come up yet. I was hoping someone here might have a solution.
    Thanks,
    schne1derman

Thank God! I thought I was the only one having this problem.
I also have a Ubuntu box with all my movies and I stream videos wirelessly from it to my macbook using XBMC (ubuntu) and Plex (mac). At first I thought the problem was the wireless G speeds from my previous router so I bought an Airport Extreme Base Station and connected it via ethernet to my existing ADSL/Wireless router on a bridge configuration. Both ubuntu and macbook are now connected at 300Mbps but I'm still experiencing occasional choppy video. The wireless connection stays up at all times so it's not a wireless connectivity issue.
I tried NFS but the problem persisted. I also installed Windows 7 RC on my bootcamp partition and had the exact same problem. Which means it can be an issue with the Airport on the macbook. I don't have another computer with Windows so I cannot say if it would work better on a PC.
At first I suspected the problem was with ubuntu so I posted this on the ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7324538
As you can see on the description I was getting those messages on the mac logs:
26/05/09 6:02:19 PM KernelEventAgent[198] tid 00000000 type 'smbfs', mounted on '/Volumes/MediaCenter', from '//ed@ed-linux/MediaCenter', not responding
    26/05/09 6:02:19 PM KernelEventAgent[198] tid 00000000 found 1 filesystem(s) with problem(s)
    26/05/09 6:02:19 PM loginwindow[197] 1 server now unresponsive
At first I thought it was a problem with the arp tables on the mac. I created a static entry for my ubuntu box. Now the connection is better and the samba volume doesn't disconnect as often and when it does, it reconnects after a while. Before the arp table static entry I had to reconnect manually:
26/05/09 6:02:32 PM kernel smbiodreconnect: Reconnected to ed-linux
One other thing to add. Before installing 10.5.7 (i.e running 10.5.6), I had this problem and the video used to get frozen (samba share disconnection) once or twice on a 1 hour video and reconnected 15 to 20 seconds right after it. Not a big deal. Now it happens several times (5 or 6 times on a 30 minute video) and it takes around 30 to 40 seconds to reconnect.

  • Slow FPS, graphics and choppy video when connected to a Mini-DVI cable to external monitor on Macbook Mid2007 4GB RAM

    Hi,
I have a Mid-2007 Macbook white. I have upgraded its memory to 4GB. Snow Leopard was working great, and I said to myself maybe it's time to upgrade to Lion.
After the upgrade all was well. However, a big problem occurs when I plug in to the Mini-DVI display port with the HDMI adapter, to connect to my Sony LCD HDTV. The whole graphics and video slow down, everything is choppy. Quicktime and VLC video playback is strobe and choppy looks like very low Frame Rate. Cannot watch anything, not HD nor low resolutions. The entire computer is slow when the cable is connected.
    Things I tried:
*VGA adapter seems to work fine - it's the digital display output that probably causes that.
*Running it through a new user.
This never happened on Snow Leopard. i'm considering to go back. However, I am wondering if there is a way to fix this minor problem.

    Update:
We solved the problem. Weird solution but now it seems to work. I plugged a VGA adpater and played with the screen rsolutions to try and watch a movie well on my LCD screen. I changed the screen resolutions but I couldn't revert back to the default settings. Pressing "Detect Displays" didn't do anything.
Here is the interesting part: When I placed back the DVI-HDMI adapter, suddenly everything worked fine!!! There was no choppy videos, no low fps, works prefect.
Something weird is going on here, but I'm happy I managed to get the DVI to HDMI to work because I was about to removie Lion and bring back Snow Leopard.

  • Choppy video playback with airplay from Macbook Pro

I experience very choppy video using airplay towards my Airplay unit (3rd gen).
I am using a Macbook Pro (15" retina, late 2013 version) with these specifications:
    - Intel Core i7 2.7 GHz.
    - 16 GB ram.
    - 768 GB flash/SSD.
...and so on. I have the Mavericks OS installed (10.9.1).
When I duplicate or extend the screen of the computer to my Apple TV it is chopping EXTREMELY much. I am not talking a little bit - but it is not even watchable. I thought that it could be the router itself as the connection is (probably, correct me if I am wrong anyone) is directed from the computer - to the router - and then to the Apple TV, which could make the router like a filter in the process. And if something would prevent the signal from reaching the Apple TV with "full speed" it could prevent the actuall image.
However, when I am using the iPhone 4S and streaming video (both video found in my phone as well as streamed TV from apps such as Magine.com) the image flows completely flawless. There are not even a touch of lagging. It flows perfect, just as watching a movie directly on the TV.
The networking hardware in the phone is slower than in the Macbook Pro retina (late 2013) - both for sending and recieving data. But still... my iPhone works better than the Macbook Pro for the Apple TV. Even though that the processing, memory, graphic and networking power is probably a thousand times faster in the computer... it still performs really bad.
I have followed some discussion threads here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22051725#22051725 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5734226?tstart=0 just as a couple of examples). I have accessed my router (Netgear Gigabit EVG 2000) and increased the Wireless mode to "up to 270 Mbps. I have also followed the previously linked threads and disabled the WMM (in the QoS-section). I felt that this made a little bit of a difference...
...when I am mirroring the screen and scale down the resolution to match the AirPlay screen (full-HD, 1920 x 1080) it works okay, but still chops quite a bit almost all the time. But if I extend the screen and want to watch TV at the same time as I am doing something else on the computer - then it chops so that it is not even possible to watch.
This have to be something either with the Mavericks OS or with my network settings - can anyone help me...? It would mean A LOT!

Curious why you think it would be my network when the same network is being used by the iPad 3rd Gen and iPhone 5 and they both stream without issue. As far as the other items you mentioned, all devices are up-to-date with the latest firmware/software and the latest MacBooks do not have ethernet ports. Speedtests that I have conducted also indicate that bandwidth is not the issue as the results show that the speeds received from the router are quite impressive.

  • Choppy video on big screens  PLEASE HELP!

I've noticed that the videos that I have exported from CS3 are very smooth when played on a computer screen and average size tv screen, but are very choppy if played on a large TV or projected on the wall.  Is there a way to remedy this?  Please help!

I think I figured out the issue.  Thanks for all your advice.  I'll repost if I have any other problems.

    Drew,
How is the large-screen projector connected, via a set-top DVD player to it, or by a computer connected to it? If it's via a set-top player, is it the same one used for the small-screen TV, or a different one? What is the make and model of the set-top player(s)?
Also, what DVD media was used, and what was the burn speed used to create the DVD? Was this authored in Encore, or with some other authoring application?
    Good luck,

  • I get choppy video on netflix streaming online

how can i fix choppy video on netflix streaming online

What version Mini do you have?  How much RAM?
What is your internet connection and speed?
Not knowing that, first I would say insure that you have
the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight installed.  Next,
do you have any other apps running at the same time?
Which browser are you using?  Also, is this all the time
    or occasionallly?
I have a 2010 Mini (Mountain Lion installed) that I use as an
HTPC.  Most of the time, I have no real issues with the video
from Netflix.  There are occasions when video is pretty choopy.
However, I can view the same program at a later date and it plays
fine.  Sometimes the problem can be at the Netflix end or with the
    connection.

  • Safari 4, choppy video on iBook G4

    Hi,
Videos played in Safari are choppy on my iBook G4. Sound plays OK. Everything was fine last week, the only thing I did is to delete my girlfriend's account and create a new account for me since she's not using the computer anymore. When I did that I was asked to upgrade Safari to version 4.1.2 (or something like that, I know for sure it's version 4) and since then, I can't look at Youtube videos or any other videos site. It's not a network problem since the video is downloaded faster than it plays. My girlfriend says she had no problem before I did the upgrade, I can't figure out wich Safari version was installed before I upgraded it. What should I do, go back to version 3.??? or is there something I should try before attempting to revert to version 3.
    thanks for your help

solution use flash player 9 because it is it is better for ppc macs and set your ibook for the highest in the system prefs if yo go to energy settings<power adapter or battery<options<highest and also use camino which helps w/ flash video, also be adviced not so many websites work w/ flash player 9 butit should do
    Camino:
    http://caminobrowser.org/
    Flash Player 9:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406791.html
just go down where it says mac os x ppc
    hope it plays better

  • Choppy video playback/loosing frames.

I've had my iMac G5 for about a year and a half but for the 5-6 months i've noticed that Quicktime movies (My quicktime movies that i've made myself and are stored on my hd) can't be played back without them loosing frames or being "choppy" - it eventually catches up - but I may have lost an entire sentence from the person in the video - this happens with any videos I watch - not just quicktime - stuff on iTunes, recordings from EyeTV do this also - not as much - but these are usually Mpeg-2 and are recording in the best quality option possible.
although if i'm watching TV from EyeTV, I have no problem - or if i'm importing video into iMovie - no problems - it's playback that does this.
it's almost as if i'm watching a streaming clip on the internet - with a bad connection. but these videos are mine - saved to the computer.
my iMac is a 2nd generation with the ambient light sensor, and I have 1 GB or Memory - I don't know what else you may need to know about my computer model - but if you think you can help, but need more info - just ask!
    thanks.

Choppy video like you describe is almost always caused by too many demands on your hard drive. EyeTV works fine when watching live TV because Live TV is not written to or read from the hard drive.
The most common cause of this would be that your hard drive is too full. For best performance, try to keep at least 15% of your hard drive space free. This gives the computer some room to breathe. If your drive was severely fragmented, it may take awhile before movies will play properly again.
You may have too many programs open. This could cause the computer to use more virtual memory, which increases hard drive usage. In addition, running another disk-intensive program can cause movies to skip.
You may have a performance problem with the drive. If you have multiple hard drives, try playing the movie from another drive.
You may have a filesystem structure issue on a drive. In some cases, these issues can result in poor performance. Run Disk Utility to test the drive. Any number of other common system fixes (repair permissions etc.) may help with this as well.

  • Choppy Video/Audio with FMS 2

    Hello,
My internet group and I have been trying to get the bugs
worked out of our system so our Flash Media Server (version 2.0)
will work correctly. The latest issue under our load test was
choppy video and audio. The load test was to see if our network and
hardware could handle 15 concurrent connections and of course
something caused the test to fail. Our network and server engineers
say their stuff all checked out only used 20% of network bandwidth
at the most. The server barely hit 5% CPU usage. It has been
suggested a few different times to incorporate a buffer. I don't
really want to do this, because it seems to be a patch on a problem
somewhere. Plus, I also read that buffers in streaming video are
somewhat irrelevant because as soon as the user seeks forward or
backward the buffer is dumped, which would put me right back in the
boat with choppy video again until the server is able to establish
another buffer while streaming the video.
Here is some info on the video we used for test:
    - 400kb per second
    - On2 VP6 Codec
    - Frames per second (same as source) (video was ripped from
    dvd quality quicktime file.)
    - 96kbps audio
    - 720 x 480 video size (The reason we went so large on the
video is because we wanted to test a “worse case
scenario” if a video that size were ever requested we would
    know if it was possible.)
    - Running on Windows 2003 server and FMS v2.0
    Here are my questions:
    1. Shouldn't the FMS stream a video of this size to 15
concurrent connections without experiencing any kind of lagging or
    choppy video?
    2. Should I incorporate a buffer into the video to smooth
    over the choppy places?
    Thank you for your help!
    Eric

Good to know...I have to admit that it is a little difficult
to find good tutorials on this kind of stuff. I've spent the past 3
hours trying to find a tutorial on how to get the "dual buffer"
technique with FLVPlayback since FLVPlayback seems to be the option
that Adobe steers most people to use. Maybe because that's the
easiest way to get video up and running for new comers (like myself
to flash video) like the Spry stuff in Dreamweaver. I've never used
the Spry stuff because I hear it's bulk, plus I already know how to
create most of that stuff with only what I need. It sounds like Net
Stream is the way to go, but will require more work to get the end
    result I want.
Obviously, I don't know much about the whole streaming video
stuff, but I guess I'll be considered an expert if I can ever get
this FMS utilized properly and my Net Stream up and running. My
understanding when we bought this server was that it was pretty
much plug'n play and the FMS ensured smooth video playing with no
problems. I didn't know I had to do all this...
    Thanks again fmslove!

  • Installed 10.1, and still get choppy video?

I am running on Firefox browser, Compaq Presario S6300NX, installed and running the new 10.1 version,
disabled the acceleration as shown here, updated drivers, etc,
and I'm still getting choppy video feed.  The general support page here said something
about making more bandwidth, I've checked the bandwidth of my computer online
and it came back with 11.5 to 11.8 Mega (something)
The video feed of what I'm trying to get is put out
at 350 KPS.  (Icenetwork new videos).  My computer is detecting faster than that.
The older videos on their website still work just fine as they
    did before.
Assuming it is a bandwidth problem what can I do?  I'm not running anything else while I try to run these
videos.  If it is not bandwidth, what else?  Thanks

The last Flash version that works on a PowerPC Mac is the 10.1 r102 version that you already have, so you can ignore any messages that your Flash is not up to date because you can't update to a later version.

I tried to stream video from NAS device (attached to Router) and the video got pause time to time. My Macbook has latest OS X and Adobe Flash.
When I used Ipad2 with CineXPlayer through Twonky , and there was no issue at all.
Here what I have tried and check video on macbook pro :
    - Run on different NAS device- still choppy video
    - Use faster router AC, stream video from NAS-- still choppy video
    - Use different app (instead of Quicktime),  stream video from NAS- still choppy video
    - Play video to Macbook on hard drive- stable video
    - Stream video on USB plugged to router- stable video
From above tries, looks like it's pointing to Macbook has issue to play from NAS, even NAS can hande high data rate (1GByte/minute).
Any helps would be great appreciated.

  • How to fix choppy video playback on Windows Surface Tablet

Choppy video playback is driving me crazzzy.  How can I fix it?

If you're using Internet Explorer, there is nothing you can do here in the way of reinstalling, repairing or even updating it.
Microsoft embeds it and it's "their baby".
You can try repairing IE: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378
Also, make sure it's porperly enabled:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/885448
and that ActiveX controls aren't blocking it:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968
Apart from that, streaming issues are connectivity related if they persist.

When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.

  • Video Lagging/Choppy videos on Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I am having a problem while watching videos online: video lagging/choppy videos. Sometimes the video is stuck in a certain frame although I still have the sound on the background; sometimes the video slows down completely (frame+sound). It started around one month ago, and exists in several different websites, I couldn`t solve it by myself. I am not very good with computers. I tried to uninstall/reinstall flash player, as well as disable hardware acceleration, and the problem is still there. Also somedays the videos are working fine, and somedays they are all bad independent of websites. I tried to use different browsers (chrome/firefox/safari), but the problem persists.
I am using a Macbook Pro and bought it in the beginning of January this year (right now it is running OS X 10.7.4) with flash player version 11.2.202.235.
I would very much appreciate if you can help me.
    Thanks.

mellskucukoglu, uninstall all adobe products then install Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, Adobe Air, Adobe Shockwave Player. Make sure to select the operating system correctly behind the link. Turn off your antivirus till you finish installation as suggested below the webpage. If it still doesn't work check for OS X 10.7.4 updates.
If it still doesn't work then go for Adobe Live chat in this link http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html . Sometimes they are busy. If they can't help. Think about any changes that you made before this issue like installaling any new apps. Uninstall them. If it still doesn't work then install Adobe Flash Professional CS 6. After installing check for adobe updates and update them all. It should work at this point.  If not ,watch this
