Choppy video on latest Macbook Pro Retina 13"

I tried to stream video from NAS device (attached to Router) and the video got pause time to time. My Macbook has latest OS X and Adobe Flash.
When I used Ipad2 with CineXPlayer through Twonky , and there was no issue at all.
Here what I have tried and check video on macbook pro :
- Run on different NAS device- still choppy video
- Use faster router AC, stream video from NAS-- still choppy video
- Use different app (instead of Quicktime),  stream video from NAS- still choppy video
- Play video to Macbook on hard drive- stable video
- Stream video on USB plugged to router- stable video
From above tries, looks like it's pointing to Macbook has issue to play from NAS, even NAS can hande high data rate (1GByte/minute).
Any helps would be great appreciated.

Looks like a problem with the logicboard....specifically the integrated GPU (intel hd 4000).

Hi, I have a latest Macbook Pro Retina. I connect its hdmi port to a DisportPort of HP Compaq LA2205wg external monitor, but no signal at all. Could anybody help me

I could be *very* wrong but did not know you could output from HDMI into displayport consistently with no issues.
Try a mDP to DP cable like this (the mDP end will go directly into the thunderbolt port of your laptop)

  • Slow video refresh on Macbook Pro Retina 13"

I installed 10.9 and was doing fine, apart from the known GMail issue (now solved). But it has been two days now that my Mac has slowed down on video refresh:
(I use a second Apple Cinema Display 24" through Display Port, but it happens even if I unplug the second display)
    * when I change screen or call mission control, I can notice a drastic performance drop in the video transitions and the menubar flashes vigorously.
    * when fullscreen (for example in Safari) my menubar drops down very slowly and sluggishly.
I reinstalled 10.9 from the recovery partition... but it had no effect. Anyone experiencing this issue?
I haven't installed anything in the last two days. I might have updated the Flash plug-in, but I am pretty sure I did it a few days ago.

Just checked the following solution. Works for me.

  • I have the latest Macbook Pro retina and I am having trouble getting it to mirror from my Apple TV to the actual TV

I have the latest Macbook Pro retina and I have looked on line for ways to hook it up to Apple TV, but all ways have failed to do so. However, I can easily access Apple TV through my Iphone 4s.
~ When I turn on Apple TV and Airplay and connect only the Macbook Screen goes into the mirror tv format. Nothing shows up at all on the TV.

Awesome, thanks everyone for your brilliant ideas in regards to trouble shooting this issue.

  • How can I adjust the contrast of video on my MacBook Pro Retina so they don't look like they were filmed with an old sock over the lens?

I'd like to watch movies and TV shows, downloaded from iTunes or Amazon, on my MacBook Pro Retina, but they all look like they were filmed with an old sock over the lens. Daytime sequences look muddy, and night time sequences are incomprehensible with anything but the brightest objects rendered as black. I can watch the same files on my old MacBook Air and everything looks right, but no manner of tweaking seems to let me watch movies on my new machine.
I've tried adjusting the gamma. It's a bit better when gammas is set to 1.0, but I can't seem to set a gamma less than one. I tried using the Accessibility Contrast control, but it just lowers the contrast, swallowing my desktop into the dark abyss. I tried Applecare, but they don't have a clue. I tried the Apple Store. The "genius" confirmed that it is indeed impossible to watch movies shot anywhere but in the brightest sunlight on a MacBook Pro Retina, and it isn't just my machine, but every similar model in the store. He arranged for someone who really understands color profiles to give me a call, but Apple seems to have dropped the ball on this.
Is there some tool for stretching out the darker grays in Apple video? I don't want calibration. My impression is that my display, like the dozens I checked at the Apple Store are calibrated to make all dimmer grays appear completely black. I want uncalibration so I can actually see what is going on in the movies even if something is in a light shadow or shot at night. Hollywood has lots of trained technicians who can light and shoot night scenes that are quite comprehensible. I've watched a number of such scenes on my old MacBook Air. Now, I'd like to enjoy their artistry on my MacBook Pro Retina.

http://www.ifixit.com/ has directions for do it yourself.  Also look at PRAM battery instructions, as sometimes this can fix optical drive issues.
You can get external or internal drives from http://www.macsales.com/
I also suggest in the future, take care of this problem while it is still under warranty. It may have cost you nothing.

  • Can I use Final Cut Studio 2 on the latest macbook pro retina display?

I'm planning on buying the 15" macbook pro retina display and was given Final cut studio 2 from a friend as he woudn`t use it.
is it possible to install this program on the computer at all and successfully use it or can i upgrade to the newest version?

Studio 2? FCP 6? No. Sorry, won't even install. It's 8 year old software...and Apple no longer supports it.
The latest version, FCP-X...costs $299. There is no upgrade cost. But once you buy it, every single update after that is free...given the history of past updates.  Note...it's very different from FCP 6. Completely different app.

I know there are about 75 answers to this already, but nothing has worked.
I have Maverick. I just upgraded to 8GB of ram. 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. I ran disk utility. I have updated Flash. I have plenty of memory. I have restarted in Safe Mode and the thing went really wonky. There were horizontal lines running up and down the screen. Trash is empty. Any more ideas?

  • Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 2.7 i7 512GB SSD and 16gb Ram with Serious Cuda Problems! Trying to teach Apple their Macbook Pro Retina isn't a Pro Jan. 11. 2015.

Apple replaced the logic board, wiped the computer, did a fresh instal of the OS, and also a fresh instal of all the programs during the beginning of 2015. The GeekBench scores are the highest of any of the similar computers (at least on the day of my testing). But here's what's happening. The Macbook Pro Retina has a GeForce GT 650m with Cuda Technology and it can't handle editing in Premiere Pro with Cuda Acceleration turned on. Open CL, a second form of graphic acceleration on the Macbook Pro, appears to be functioning properly.
At the Apple Store on 1-10-2015, I was told that since the logic board and the graphic cards have been replaced that there is nothing they can do and they recommend contacting Corporate. This comes after they told me to buy a new logic board and that that would solve the problem. This comes after Apple did not listen, for over a month, about the possibility that they didn't properly build a professional notebook computer.
The computer displays a black program monitor screen, at random times, when the user edits footage with Cuda Acceleration enabled. It used to lead to an entire system crash and/or a Premiere Pro crash before the operating system was completely re-installed. My solution, since I bought the computer, was to edit in Open CL... However, I've come to learn that there is a major difference in performance between Open CL and Cuda Acceleration.
For the Macbook Pro Retina, Adobe Media Encoder render times are about 20% faster with Cuda Acceleration than Open CL. The 2013 Macbook Pro Retina appears to be able to handle Cuda Acceleration in Media Encoder, but I have had a number of issues leading to program crashes on every project before the new logic board and operating system were installed. For over a year and a half, I actually never used Cuda Acceleration. Having sent every crash report and user data to Apple over that time, I truly expected an update of some sorts and it never came.
FYI: The latest Macbook Pro Retina uses the GeForce GT 750m... This is essentially the same graphic card that performs about 10 - 20% faster due to a new "boost mode." More importantly, it actually has the exact same number of Cuda cores. Having the same number of Cuda Cores means that the Cuda Acceleration is essentially the same when exporting or viewing video. To prove a point to Apple that their 2013 Macbook Pro Retina isn't functioning properly, I bought the latest computer with the 2.5 i7, 16gb Ram, 512gb SSD and I can honestly say that the 2014 model works perfectly fine with Cuda Acceleration turned on while editing in Premiere. I can also say that a proper render test proved the 2013 and 2014 model to be the exact same.
I'm new to this whole pay $2700 for a computer that your manufacturer didn't / can't test properly, so I will be contacting Apple and speaking with Senior Advisors, their Customer Support division, and will soon speak with their Corporate branch. I'm confident that the Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with a 2.7 i7 16gb Ram and a 512 SSD is nearly the same at rendering video and editing video, provided the Cuda Acceleration works, as their latest 2014 Macbook Pro Retina with the 2.5 i7 processor 16gb Ram, and a 512 SSD. It's truly a great computer and a great build, minus their current inability to properly test / diagnose their computer.
Knowing that the latest graphic card in the Macbook Pro lineup is essentially the same model, I feel that Apple is not directly looking into the viability and life span of their current Macbook Pro Retina product line. They can't test for performance issues relating to their graphic cards, so why consider buying from them when the end user is actually in a position to experience up to a 20% decrease in certain professional programs.
For future reference, I'd strongly urge other individuals to avoid purchasing Apple products if they offer Cuda Technology. In my opinion, Apple is an Open CL organization, at best, who is not responsibly manufacturing / producing computers that fit their organization's strengths. For a fact, they can't test their Cuda Technology and won't even attempt to address Cuda Acceleration errors for Apple owners (01-11-2015). I say this having walked out of the Apple Store on 1-10-2015 with virtually no support other than to contact Corporate.

    Looks like a RAM issue.

  • MacBook Pro retina: Mid-range 13" or low-range 15"?

    Hi,
I'm a second-year university student looking to get the latest MacBook Pro retina (switching from a PC). I have been to the store and tried both - I am very torn between getting a mid-range 13" (I want the 256GB SSD) or a low-range 15". With the Apple care, student discounts and tax (15% here), the difference in price comes down to $700 CAD. I am not sure whether spending this extra cash is worth is as I do not do any graphic or hardcore programming work. I use my laptop mostly to type notes, read and watch movies & TV series. I should mention that I will not consider MacBook Air, it's too thin for my taste (I feel like I will easily drop it or break it haha). Here are some pros and cons I've came up with - I wish to get some insight from all of you who have had experience with MacBook Pros:
    13":
    Pros:
    1. About 1kg lighter in weight, the charger is also lighter than the one used for 15", so it will add up to be more than 1kg lighter --> more portable
    2. Longer battery life (though I'll most likely be carrying around the charger anyway, I will almost always have somewhere to plug at school)
    3. Cheaper ($700 CAD less than the 15")
    Cons:
    1. Smaller screen (I've never used a laptop under 15.4", I have no idea whether 13" is enough as a comfortable size to work with for long hours), maybe eyes will get tired more easily
    2. Since there is less screen space, when working on programs such as Microsoft Office with multiple documents, have to spend little extra time adjusting size of the window or display (zoom in and such)
    15":
    Pros:
    1. Bigger screen, which makes the "retina" part much more obvious and apparent --> nicer to watch videos and movies.
    2. 16GB RAM, can "keep its value longer(?)" - I lack of a better way to say this... it seems like these things get upgraded quickly, 8GB may be good today, and next year the standard becomes 16GB. And since RAM is something important for most people, getting a 16GB feels like my laptop can withstand its value longer
    Cons:
    1. HEAVIER - this is what I'm more concerned about (please share your experiences with 15" rMBP's weight ). I'm afraid that although it doesn't feel much lighter when I hold it, and it's probably not that heavy with just the rMBP in the backpack - the extra weight might show during exam times when I have to carry more books around.
    2. Price - Is the $700CAD worth it? Because the difference that I can really experience will probably be 1)the screen and 2) the RAM, since I only do ordinary business with my laptop.  I know what the extra money is worth it for those professional users out there given the higher specs of the processor and graphics card, but I probably won't feel anything, right?
         - but then, if the extra screen real estate can make me work more efficiently (share your experiences please, I would really like to hear them), and that it's not heavy, I do have the budget to pay the extra $700.
As you may be able to tell, I've done quite a lot of research, but I am still torn and don't know how to decide. I guess the biggest question is portability vs. extra screen space & retina experience. I would really appreciate if you could share your opinions and experiences! If you can convince me of which model to choose, I will be very grateful. I've been losing productivity for days just to think about this decision dilemma...
    Thanks in advance!
    Ellen

It is really a personnel choice. I myself would opt for the 15 inch because I consider the 13 inch has too small a screen and the 16 GB of memory is a plus.

  • Did new Macbook Pro Retina 15" Support Miracast in Windows 8.1 with Bootcamp?

Have latest Macbook Pro Retina with Intel WLAN 802ac standart.
Want use Miracast with this. Is this possible?

    Yes...
I also just recently purchased a MacBook Pro retina 15 (mid-2014) with bootcamp (windows 8.1) installed.  While using my windows partition, the MBP seems to be running a bit hot, at least hotter than the OS X partition.
As for comparison, I have the 2012 MacBook Pro retina 13 with bootcamp (windows 8.1).  It does not get as hot as the 15, and in fact, I don't think it runs hotter than OS X...
Any thoughts?  Is it perhaps because I have the NVIVIDA dedicated graphics and in the windows partition, IRIS PRO isn't running?

  • Macbook Pro Retina 13'' - Power button and sleep mode

I just updated my Mac, which is the latest Macbook Pro Retina 13''. All of a sudden, it refuses to enter sleep mode when I press the power button, which worked perfectly fine before the update. I now have to manually enter sleep mode from the monitor. After entering sleep mode, It works fine to press the power button to make it work again, but not reverse. Why?
    Thanks in advance!

I have this problem as well. Worked perfectly before I updated to OS X Mavericks (10.9.2).
Now I have to hold the power button in for it to sleep or click on it for a few times. But there is no problem when I'm going to wake the computer up, just a single push and it works fine. Is this a software issue or a hardware issue? Any respond from Apple regarding this issue and how to solve it? Or should i contact my retailer?

I'm using Macbook Pro Retina, my version is ME866LLA
    My Safari version is: 7.0.6
I installed the latest version's adobe flash. I'v tried reset settings for safari, and I also checked Security Settings ->Internet Plugins. I do believe all are correct.
But still I can't play any video from any online video websites(Like youtube, youku, tudou etc).

Anybody can tell me what happened?? At the very beginning(when I first got this computer), I think this works, but don't know what happened. I have this issue for long time!!
Anybody can help me? Great thanks!!

    Hi ..
You may be using HTML 5.
Then click:  Use the Default Player
If that doesn't help, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Make sure:   Allow Plug-ins  is selected.
If that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
Back to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Can someone suggest an affordable external hard drive for use with FCPX and video editing on my Macbook Pro Retina

I have a Macbook Pro Retina from 2012 and I only got the 250GB hard drive.  I'm getting ready to purchase a Panosonic HC-X920 to use with Final Cut Pro X already installed on my laptop.  Since I know the file sizes are going to be so big, can anyone suggest an affordable external drive fast enough to keep up with editing the video?  I'm not a pro and use it for family and personal projects.
I prefer some thunderbolt options since I haven't had a chance to use the inputs since I got my macbook pro. I just don't know what is necessarily too little or too big and too cheap and too expensive for my needs.  Thank you.

OWC is a Mac specialist and a very trustworthy vendor.  I have dealt with them and their technical stall on many occasions.  Hence you may look at what they offer and be assured that they will stand behind what they sell:

  • Macbook Pro Retina and Yosemite Video Corruption?

So I have a Macbook Pro Retina (mid 2012), 2.7ghz i7, 16gb ram, which has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB video card and integrated video.  I am running Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10
I have been experiencing a lot of video corruption in different applications, it doesn't seem to be limited to just one application or two -- it is happening in Safari, Mail, Photoshop, and others.
I am attaching screen shots to show:
Here is a video when it decides to flash weird video garble:
    Link to video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8RAyj9L_nQ
Has anyone experienced this same problem?  is there an official name or description for what is going on?  Is there a fix?  It is quite frustrating.

I have the same problem with my older white Apple Wireless Extended Keyboard, which had been working fine with my 2009 iMac. But I experience the issue sporadically with my new Mac Mini. I've read reports of people resolving some BT issues by turning off "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" in the Advanced pane of the Bluetooth System Preferenes Pane.
There are also people having the issue on iOS devices using various Apple BT keyboards. No help, but interesting to note that it's happening across various devices, keyboard models, and OSs.
