Choppy/zig-zagging movement on zoomed-in image?

1-week-old MacBook Pro - Non-Retina - OSX 10.8.2 / 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 / 8GB RAM / 750GB HD (currently 522GB free space)
I initially discovered my issue in Photoshop CS6, but just installed the trial of LR 4.2, as well as 4.3RC, to see if the problem persisted, and it does.  My problem is choppy/zig-zagging movement when moving around (two-fingered scrolling using my trackpad) on a zoomed-in image.  Here's a video capture of the problem in Photoshop - and it does the exact same thing in LR.  I did post yesterday in the Photoshop forum but didn't get any advice other than to use a mouse instead of a trackpad...so helpful.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyRBUiDjavM&feature=youtu.be   The image in this video is just a jpg, quite small in file size.
I have adjusted every single scrolling/trackpad option in System Preferences, tried enabling and disabling automatic graphics switching in Energy Saver Preferences, changed all Performance Preferences in PS.  I've also installed all Apple and Adobe updates.  I'm only posting here due to the lack of response in the Photoshop forum, and since the problem appeared in LR, as well.  I brought my computer into Apple yesterday as well, and the "genius" that helped me didn't think that the problem was a hardware/Apple issue, but Adobe-related instead.  Have any of you experienced this?  Thanks in advance for any insight you may have!
(here's my other post, with more detailed information - http://forums.adobe.com/message/4841306)

I have never seen anything like this at all.  I also would try this with a mouse and see if it is related to the trackpad.  A good resource for help from Adobe is to use the Adobe Customer Care page on Twitter.  Those guys are amazingly fast to respond and have been a super help to me a few times in the past.  If anyone can help, it is them.  https://twitter.com/Adobe_Care

  • Eden generation utilization doing zig zag movement in range of 2 Gbs

    Hi,
    I'm running an application where the app produces approximately 15 MB of data per second, but the heap memory utilization in CMS Eden space shows zig zag movement ranging from 100 MB to 2.5 GB for a period of 15 seconds or so. In other words, if my app generates data in range of few MBs then how come the young generation space utilization(in Jconsole) can grow in GBs in such a short span of time?
    Any insight will be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Ashish

    , but the heap memory utilization in CMS Eden space shows zig zag movement ranging from 100 MB to 2.5 GB for a period of 15 seconds or so.Which would come down to about 160MB of objects per second. How do you generate the 15MB and what makes you sure that nothing more is generated?
    In other words, if my app generates data in range of few MBs then how come the young generation space utilization(in Jconsole) can grow in GBs in such a short span of time?Creating temporary objects that get garbage collected quickly can lead to this behaviour (and it's precisely what Eden Space is designed to handle).
    Why do you think that's a problem, by the way?

  • Choppy/jagged movement when moving around on a zoomed-in image?

    Brand new MacBook Pro - Non-Retina - OSX 10.8.2 / 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 / 8GB RAM / 750GB HD (currently 522GB free space) / CS6 Extended Version 13.0.1. x64
    I just got a new MacBook Pro this past week and immediately discovered that whenever I would try to move around on a zoomed-in image (using two-finger scrolling on my trackpad, as I've done for years), it would be very choppy/jagged/sort of jumping pixels.  I've changed everything in Photoshop--Preferences--Performance multiple times (including the graphics processor settings, memory usage, history & cache), as well as all of my scrolling and trackpad settings, and have also tried with and without automatic graphics switching.  I have this issue in both CS6 (downloaded directly from adobe.com last night, extra updates done immediately), and CS5.  I tried CS4 and there was no issue...but I didn't get a brand new computer to use an old version of Photoshop.  Went into the Apple store today to see if they've seen this issue before, but the person I spoke to had not (and knew nothing about Photoshop...not that I expected him to).  I have a few friends who have this same problem - some just deal with it (or don't use Photoshop enough for it to be a bother), some have gotten their computers replaced (but with no actual answers).  Apple wasn't convinced that this was a hardware issue in my case, but did offer to replace the computer (however it will take a couple weeks, as it's a custom order).  I've spent countless hours searching these Adobe forums (and the rest of the internet) for insight.
    I did a screen recording showing what is happening as I move around on an image - http://youtu.be/yyRBUiDjavM
    This happens on ALL images, regardless of file type and size (the image shown in this video is just a jpg with no extra layers - working on RAW files with multiple layers produces the same result, no worse).  And once again, I have changed everything in the Performance Preferences in PS (including the graphics processor settings, memory usage, history & cache), as well as all of my scrolling and trackpad settings, and have also tried with and without automatic graphics switching in my energy saver preferences...all multiple times, all with closing/reopening PS, all with restarting my computer afterwards.  Have I missed something, or do you guys think it is more than likely a hardware (RAM, graphics card, etc) problem?
    Here is my (current) system info - again, I've changed the PS performance preferences multiple times -

    Thanks for your response Mylenium, however like I mentioned multiple times, I did change all of my trackpad/scrolling settings in system preferences.  And if I wanted to use a normal mouse (or a tablet), I would've gotten an iMac instead of a MacBook Pro.  I travel often and work all over the place, not always with access to a decently sized workspace that would be required for using a mouse or tablet.

  • How to Zoom an Image whereever the mouse moves?

    Hi,
    I have to zoom the image where ever the mouse cursor moves.
    If i am moving the mouse at the position (x,y) then that part of the image has to be zoomed.
    So that the pixels are clearly visible to user.
    Can any one suggest me what i have to do exactly.
    Thanks & Regards

  • How to make it look like the camera is following a zig zagging line

    I have an animated video where a person clicks a button and an arrow appears coming out of the right side of the computer. I would like to make it look like the camera follows the arrow as it zooms along a zig zag path and eventually ends at another computer.  Does anyone know of any good tutorials for this?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    This is just a matter of keyframes for camera position and point of interest.You are probably not going to find a tutorial that exactly matches your project. Try this:
    Open up 2 views, one active camera, one top view.
    Set a position keyframe for the camera where you want the movement to start.
    Drag the point of interest to point at your subject (animated arrow)
    Using the top view and setting the CTI (current time indicator) to the end point of the camera move, move the camera's point of interest  to the same position as the animated arrow
    Still in the top view, move the camera to it's final position
    Using the pen tool (keyboard shortcut g) add points to the camera position path and drag them into a zig zag shape using the top view
    Selecting the Point of interest in the timeline, adjust the position of the point of interest to follow the arrow as it animates across the screen by moving the CTI and setting new positions.
    Another thing you could do would be just to use a lookAt expression for point of interest. This would keep the camera pointed at the arrow.
    Hope this helps. Animating a camera is one of the most basic skills an AE artist should have. It takes a bit of practice but it's not hard.

  • Create a zig zag effect in array

    I have a one dimensional array that holds the pixels values for the image. I currently go through it like so:
    for (int y = 0; y < height-1; y++) {
         offset =y*width;
         for (int x=0; x < width-1; x++) {
              pos = offset + x;
              oldPixel = pixels[pos];
    ...What I now want to do is instead of going in a constant left to right motion is to go in a zig zag motion. This means I want to go left to right on the first line then the second line is from right to left and then back to left to right again for the next line.
    Any ideas on what would be the best way to do this?
    Thanks.

    4fingers wrote:
    Any ideas on what would be the best way to do this?Are you sure about the limits? It usually looks like this,
    for (int y=0; y<height; y++) {
    The above will loop height times.
    Anyway you can introduce a boolean variable called say leftToRight which is controlling the scanning direction,
    boolean leftToRight = true;
    for (int y = 0; y < height; y++) {
       offset =y*width;
       if (leftToRight) { // from left to right
          for (int x=0; x < width; x++) {
             pos = offset + x;
             oldPixel = pixels[pos];
       } else { // from right to left
          for (int x=width-1; x >= 0; x--) {
             pos = offset + x;
             oldPixel = pixels[pos];
       leftToRight = !leftToRight; // change direction

  • Gradient on a zig-zag shape

    Hello Illustrator experts out there!
    I'm stuck trying to apply a gradient to a zig-zag object that I've created on Illustrator. I want every peak to be black and the gradient should be kind of rounded (but not radial). The center of the shape should show the transition betwen the darker color and the lighter one.
    Please see image attached:
    How do I achieve this using the gradient tool?
    Many thanks in advance and I look forward to your replies!

    I hope this is what you're talking about. In the Gradient panel, first change the direction of the gradient. Then add in 3 other markers to your gradient bar and position them accordingly. (You can type in the exact position where it says Location. If you double click on a marker, you will then see a K (levels of black). Type in the numbers shown in my preview for each marker. I hope this helps.

    Looks like someone responded to this in another forum. Please
    do not post in multiple forums as it makes it harder for folks to
    be able to find where the question may be answered, especially
    don't post in forums like this one that are not focused on the
    topic of your question.

    Hi,
    I have to zoom the image where ever the mouse cursor moves.
    If i am moving the mouse at the position (x,y) then that part of the image has to be zoomed,

  • When I try to move from one selected image to selecting a different image, lightroom (new install of Lightroom 5.5) will keep the previous image selected, so I always end up with two selected images - why?

    For example, I will select the first image in my grid view, then let's say I want to work on the fifth image. When I click on the fifth image, Lightroom leaves image one selected, as if I have held down the Command or the Shift key to select multiple images.  This is not what I expect. Then I am forced to command click the image I no longer want selected - this happens every time I try to move to any new image - the previous one(s) stay selected.  I have tried a reboot of my machine but still this happens.  Also, as a further bug, if I leave my grid with no images selected at all, after a few seconds Lightroom automatically selects the first two images in my library and highlights them - without my even pressing a key!  This is really weird behaviour. It's really frustrating as I like to use my keyboard arrow keys to move through my library of images, but when Lightroom keeps two images selected it just ping pongs between those two images.  I deselect and try to move on, and it again leaves the previous image selected!  By the way - I am not in Compare mode while this is happening - just in standard browsing of the library...  Help please!
    kind regards,
    oMac

  • Help Needed in Zooming and Zooming Out Images in flex

    Hi
    I am using <mx:Zoom /> component to zoom an image!
    I am able to zoom and Zoom out the Images but when I zoomIn the Image is cropping!
    Can any one give me the link or code for best zoomin and  zoomOut for Images?
    Is there any way that I can Zoom Video in flex?
    Thanks n Regards
    Aruna

    Probably the simplest solution is to use password-based encryption (PBE). See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/security/CryptoSpec.html#PBEEx
    for an example.

    scale your Graphics2D object
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/awt/Graphics2D.html#scale(double,%20double)
    Also check the documentation of
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/javax/swing/JComponent.html#paint(java.awt.Graphics)
    and see if your code would be better in paint(java.awt.Graphics) instead of paintComponent(Graphics g)

  • Black page background flashes grey when zooming on images

    When I'm previewing my book on iPad I see that when I zoom in on an image (single image gallery widget) the page background which is black flashes grey momentarily. This happens on ipad but not when I preview on the mac.
    Seems like the page wants to revert to the default white background everytime I click an image widget. Any way to set a book wide black background color? I currently create the page background colour by placing a black rectangle object in the background.
    Thanks anyone for any tips!

    It seems there's a default setting when zooming on images that fades the background from white to black (I guess Apple is presuming all pages are white)? Anyone who have pages with colour background notice this?

    Okay, this is the most interesting problem I've seen today.  It looks like a bug, but we're going to have to reproduce it to fix it.
