Christmas Card Labels

I have a moderate-sized list of contacts in Address Book, including about 250 people that I like to send Christmas cards. Many of these people are business associates, so correspondence during the year requires Mr. John Doe or Dr. William Smith on the envelope or address labels. However, I would like to send the Christmas card to John and Sally Doe or The Smith Family. In prior years, I just spent an afternoon and re-typed the first name slot for the card-receivers, and later restored the first names from a backup for business correspondence. There has to be a better way--any suggestions? Thanks.
C.

We use a program called +The Printshop 2+.

How do I delete information from my Christmas card LABEL list? I have tried and tried.

First, be aware that this isn't an area where I have much knowledge or experience -- so you may get a better answer from someone else here.
Preview is usually used for PDF and pictures to view documents or photos and while it has some capabilities to "mark up" those documents it isn't meant to work like a word processor to modify them. PDF is Portable Document Format and is primarily used to send a document to someone in a way that they can read it on their computer without having a particular program (that you might have but that they might not have), but not have the ability to change that document.
I have Christmas labels that were created via Avery (their online site) and they are also in PDF format and are also not editable to my knowledge. If I need to change any of them this year I will go back to the Avery program and create a new batch from the saved source address list. How were your labels originally created? You may have to go back to that point and create another document.

  • Labels for christmas cards.

Before downloading Lion OS I used appleworks to print lables with names and addresses on a sheet of 30.  I used these for  Christmas card
mailing.  Is there any other program that will do this?

  • I need help entering ALL of my addresses for Christmas card address labels on my new iMac.  Whats the best way to do this?

Anyone have any tips how to get started with address labels?  I went to my address book, but it looks so time intensive.  Can I mail merge addresses I put into a excell spread sheet to print labels??

Don't waste your time with formatting in any of those programs - creating two pages for cards, blah blah blah.
The best way to mail merge on a mac is using address book.
People think merging got harder, but apple made it easier - more intuitive. You don't merge mailing labels through a word processor - you do it through the program which houses the addresses.  If the addresses aren't in address book yet, that's a snap.
First, go to your program/file with the addresses (pages, numbers, excel, etc.). I think it's easiest to use numbers.
make sure the column headings are set to Mac Address Book Standard Names - that way you won't have to spend too much time mapping them in address book. (if you're not sure what those are - open address book and just a view a card/record, or open pages or numbers and search in the help menu for the term "merge field names" and it will give you a list. They're pretty simple - things like "First Name" "Last Name" "Street Address" etc.
For christmas cards, I add an extra column under the heading "Note" and input "Christmas Card List" for every record.
Once your data is formatted with the correct column names, export the list to a csv file.
Open Address book in mac and import the list - make sure the columns match up with the correct fields.
It might ask if you want to overwrite or update - that's up to you.
If you know your christmas card list has the most recent address info, hit update.
Once the import is done it should take you to the front page for the address book in which you'll be given the choice to view Icloud addresses (if you sync those) and also the Last import. Any groups or smart groups you have will show up in the list too.
Click on Last import - make sure all the addresses and names you just imported are there. If not, something went wrong - go back and check your import field mapping. If all's good, keep rollin'. (it helps to scroll to the bottom of the import list to get the count of imported records)
Here, you can do one of two things - create a group or a smart group.
For a regular group - Highlight all the records on the right panel in your last import, then go to file > new group from selection. Rename your group christmas cards or something like that.
I prefer to create smart groups.
For that, goto file > new smart group. You'll come to a filter window. Click on the first drop down box and scroll to "Note." Then in the second drop down box choose "is" and in the third and final input box on the right, enter the text from the note column you created in the address list file. I used "Christmas Card List".
That will create a smart group, such that any time you enter a new address or contact in the address book with the note field that equals "christmas Card list" it will automatically be entered into this group.
Either way, you're only one step away from labels.
With that Christmas Card List selected in address book, go to print. When the print dialogue box opens, make sure to click on the button for show details toward the bottom left. That will open up your choices for style.
Under "Style" click on mailing labels.
Under "Layout" choose your label layout (i use avery 5160). It will show you a picture of the label and you can tell if it's the right one.  You'll also notice the labels are being merged correctly, with one address per label, rather than one name for the entire page - like if you try to do this through pages.
    Print away.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to organize Christmas card address list in pages.

How to organize Christmas card address list in pages? How to print address labels from this list?

Your best bet is to put your Christmas Card list into an external spreadsheet, and then save that as a comma separated values (CSV) document.
Create a new group in the Contacts application, and name it (e.g. Christmas List). Select that group so that it is current.
From File > Import, select the CSV document that you saved earlier. The import process will bring that data into the current (Christmas List) contact group as addresses.
In File > Print,  for the Style category, select Mailing Labels. In the layout tab, Set the Page to Avery Standard, and the Avery label number (e.g. 5161) sheet that you want to print too. The label tab allows you to modify the label style, and order your labels in postal or alphabetical order.
In the Contacts Help Menu, type: print contact in the search window. Pick the first returned Help item, Print Contact Item Information, may help further.

  • Christmas Mailing Labels

For the purposes of a Christmas card greeting list I would like to modify my address labels from, for example, John and Mary Doe, to say The Doe Family or John and Mary Doe and Family. Is there a simple way to do this?
I tried to copy the labels into a Christmas list group and then modify the label within the group, but the changes occur throughout so it isn't very helpful. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and Happy Holidays to all!

I not sure I have a definitive answer for you, but wanted to voice that you are not alone in your frustration. I agree that the Address Book label function was very disappointing for Christmas list use.
Some of my labels printed out exactly as you mentioned. However, a few of them printed out like your desired result (Lisa, John, and Alicia Smith). I noticed in my case the ones that printed out with the spouse's name included before the last name were the ones in which I had inadvertantly used complete first and last names in the spouse field (ie "John Smith"). Give that a try, and see if your resultant label changes.
I will warn you though, in my case, Address Book is acting very erratic. Some of the labels left out the information in the "spouse" field entirely. Yes, even though the spouse field was properly present and entered on the Address Book card, the name did not show up on all of the labels. Some did, some didn't. Very embarrassing if I were to send a card to a person and their child, leaving out the spouse. So I had to hand check each label against the information on each Address Book card.
If anyone knows of a way to "rebuild" the Address Book data base to maybe clear up some corruption that could be causing Address Book to sporatically leave out information...or any other solution...please help, and thank you.

  • Christmas Mailing Labels (format problems) ?

I was unable to use address book to do my Christmas mailing labels on my new mini mac, I ended up having to use my old 1996 PC with the Access program.
After entering all the recipient's names, spouse's names, childrens names and addresses in my mini mac the label would print out like this: Lisa Smith and John and Alicia
Mailing labels are already not as personal as hand writing, but this is really embarrasing. I spent a lot of time entering all of the names in my new mini mac, isn't there some kind of update that will automatically correct this problem? I would like the label to read like this: Lisa, John and Alicia Smith
Thank you for your help and attention.

  • How can I make a photo Christmas card in Mail?

I want to send a Christmas card that includes a family photo. I've tried online services in the past, but they charge quite a bit for good cards. One place I like (good templates, easy to use) charges 3.99/mo or $48.00 a year.
It's easy to import a photo into a Mail message. What I can't figure out is how to format it so that the message will appear to the right or left of it, the way you can format around an image in Word for example.

  • Will a different language font print OK on Christmas Cards?

    Hi There,
I have a non-english font on my mac, which works perfectly fine in all applications. I was able to choose this font for my Christmas card design in iPhoto 9.1 and it shows properly on the screen.
My question is when the design goes to print, does the font get properly transcribed to print? I.e. does the card design turn into a PDF/JPG which makes the font issue irrelevant, as I'm sure Apple doesn't have the non-english font I use.
Thanks for all your help in advance!
    G

Before ordering your card preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered card will match it.
