Christmas Gift for younger sisters....Good Idea?

I bought 2 pre-paid verizon phones from walmart with a $10 airtime included. These are for my 2 younger step-sisters. Are they going to be able to afford these on there own? I saw something about the phone staying active. Is there a charge everytime to activate the phone if they let it go too long without adding minutes? It's going to be there responsibility. I don't want my step-dad or their mom to have to deal with it. What would be the best plan option for them. I don't want them to waste there money. I want to make sure they won't loose minutes. Just to add to Spottedcatfish's good advice you can also set and alert for when there cash balance gets low just as $5.00 and when they get down to that amount verizion will text them and let them know they will have to add money or just not use the phone till then can get more money to put into there account. On most prepaid phones the balance can be put on the front screen in the bannor area. That way you always know before you start to use the phone exactly how much you have let on your balance.

Great to think of Oracle11g 11.2.0.3 RAC(Don't forget to install Patch 13440962) but do consider below
1.) Implementing ACFS is supported for Shared Oracle Home.
2.) ACFS is a good option for storing Backups(Ex. RMAN,Exports etc)
3.) Can be used as a NFS Shared drive for other NFS clients.
You will also see a resource "ora.registry.acfs" just after you start creating/using ACFS.
ACFS is cool to use using asmcmd commands or alter diskgroup sql statements.
ACFS is as better like other Vendor Cluster File system.

My Christmas gift for a family member

Its coming to christmas time, and i have came to the idea that instead of buying some kind of gift, i would make some kind of card for my grandmother. I would like to do it in adobe flash, but i have a little problem with the whole design. What i want to do is insert pictures of my grandma's children and their children in a picture infront of her house, but when you hover over the person, the background gets darker and some information appears next to the person.
I have worked with adobe flash before, but i can not remember most of the commands in action script for such processes. What i need is the how to for the action script.

I just purchased a 15" MacBook Pro and will be giving my MacBook to my sister. It recently had a new hard drive installed and today I picked it up from the Genius Bar after they replaced the Main Logic Board. I want to completely erase the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard so she has a clean slate to work with. What would be your recommendation for achieving this? I do not want any trace of my data left on the MacBook in case it is lost or stolen. The last time I gave my sister my an older MacBook I reinstalled the operating system and wiped the data from the hard drive but there were still traces of my old passwords and I never figured out how to change the computer name from my name to her name.

To Much artists for iTunes. Good Idea present.

I recently started using iTunes and a few things weren't as good as they could.
What did I like: iTunes automaticly removes "The" from the artists name.
What I didn't like: I have more then 2000 artists in my list, reason is lack of 'smart' thinking of iTunes.
For Example i have (dutch artist):

Ali B ft. Gio
Ali B ft. Yes-R
Ali B ft. Yes-R & partysquad
Ali B ft. partysquad
Ali B is a HipHop artist and the same problem occurs with for example jay-z.
The solution can be very easy. Artist whom are always a duet like Simon & Garfunkel you write with a "&". Temporary duets always have one main artist and one guest artist (like with ray charles's - Genius loves company) the guest artist is always writte with "ft." or "feat." or "featuring".
In my artist list i want to look for Norah Jones and also want to find her nummer: Ray Charles ft. Norah Jones - Here we go again.
I Hope there will be an update soon with my idea implamented.
In the mean time:
Are there any opinions about this idea and do you have the same problem?

I take the featured artist out of the Artist filed and put it in the song title.

Christmas gift for my wife

Looking to buy my wife an IPOD Nano 3rd Generation for Christmas. Our home computer is a dinosaur....an old Dell Dimension 450mhtz Pentium 2. We have used Itunes (version 6.7?) since last year but cannot download the new Itunes programs. If I purchase an IPOD Nano 3rd Generation...will I be able to use it with the older version of ITunes? I've been told by some people yes...and others no. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Blackmagic Intenisty Pro card for my Macpro - good idea?

Can anyone tell me the advantages of using a Blackmagic Intenisty Pro card in my Macpro.
We shoot 50% wedding films and 50% corporate films.
I am now shooting and editing in HD using my Sony Z1 and FCP then exporting as SD to Compressor.
I just think that shooting in HD gives the footage that extra punch and also gives me more editing options. I have read a lot about this card - which will limit the problems i have been having with Conforming HD footage in FCPs timeline which takes ages to render - or should i transcode to AIC or ProRes422 before editing?

What the card adds to the party here, is the ability to view your HD video externally on a video monitor, and allows you to capture it as ProRes. Which is better than the AIC codec. ProRes files will render a lot faster than native HDV files, and they are visually lossless. Capturing to the AIC will lose quality

Why does it take so long for microsoft to incorporate good ideas into programs, but then after they do no one elses software will work on the system?

Case in point: I can not use Xp any longer since it is not supported by microsoft, and latest lan driver requires xp service packs which are no longer available for XP or Vista. So my old software as of April 2014 is now worthless as internet access software(microsoft
will not provide support or service packs for xp). So I get a new pc with WIN7 op system installed and try to do traditional backups to protect myself should my system crash in the future. (usually this means cloning a hard drive or installing Faronics Deep
Freeze to protect my op system in case of catastrophic failure.) I try to install and use some of these utility software types including Acronis Disk Director 12, Avanquest Perfect Image, Partition Commander 10, and others True Image Hdd utility for cloning
hdds. Most of these I try to run turn out to be useless, and I get pop-up messages saying my software is incompatible with win 7 op sys! I am wondering if it is the software or the fact the op system is 64bit (not 32 bit) which means that if you buy any other
software to help with utilities it will be worthless because most are written for 32 bit systems not 64. No one tells you these warning signs when you buy the pc with the 64 bit software already installed. But for a Toshiba 15" computer that normally
costs 400$ and I can get it at Goodwill used computer store(1stStreet and Fairview in Santa Ana, Ca.) for 175$ I can not complain. Being an unemployed electronic technician, I have to stretch my dollars as far as they will go...Another frustrating thing is

2 KB THAT I WAS NO LONGER LIMITED BY THE SOFTWARE FROM SHRINKING THE HDD PARTITION FROM 300GB DOWN TO 100GB. Once this item was changed on the hard drives the Disk Director 12 software (Acronis) was able to shrink the partition size to what I wanted.

Due to phenomenal development in Windows, Microsoft released 4 generations of operating systems, succeeding Windows XP. Hence, on various aspects, Windows XP becomes too old to be used practically these days. So the support was pulled out.
I do agree that Windows XP is the most successful operating system ever, so far. But, later versions added more features, enhanced security and compatibility. Moreover, at this point, Windows XP becomes more vulnerable, although security patches are made.
Ultimately, we need to move to a more secure, feature-rich and highly compatible operating system.
With improved features in newer versions of Windows, the NTFS filesystem has also been improved, adding new features. Hence, certain feaures that are not availble in Windows XP are available in Windows 7, again, in Windows 8.1. So is the disk management
features.
As for Acronis Disk Director, it's a third party software and hence we can't comment on the features/its working.

I want to use a fantom diamond as an external hard drive for my mac, is this a good idea?

Using a Macbook pro, with Snow Leopard (I think), and my memory is full so I want to store my stuff on an external hard drive. I found a 2T Fantom Diamond EHD, but I'm now learning that I have to convert to NTFS-3g. I'm not computer savy so I want to know if this is a good idea, or should I look for something different. Also, can I set up the EHD as the default path for itunes?

This is not the forum for MacBook Pro owners.
You just need to reformat the drive in Disk Utility and erase the drive and have Mac HFS.
If you did need to use NTFS then you would not want -3G but Paragon NTFS for OS X x. 10.0
Or buy something that isn't pre-formatted to Windows NT file system.
First though make sure you have backups of your system. TimeMachine being used now?

No one from Apple here - we're just users like you. All I can tell you is that electronic fail and with MacBook Pros (and most notebooks) the components are so integrated as to make a repair to the logic board practically impossible, hence the high prices charged for repairs.
Only you can decide if you want to have your computer repaired or put the money towards the purchase of a new computer. If you do decide to purchase a new unit I would suggest that you also purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan which increases your warranty from one year to three years.

Before you buy......you need to check with the school to see if they allow wireless routers in the dorms, or on campus at all.
Most schools prohibt the use of wireless routers due to interference issues.
Even if the school might allow this, there is no way to know in advance how well this might work....and frankly this type of setup is difficult, even if you have a friend who "knows computers".
If it were me, I would purchase a hard drive for backups....just like you do now.... and send an email once or twice a week to the student to remind them to "backup".

Sorry i correct myself i had been an iPhone user for about 3 years. My last Apple iPhone was an iPhone 5. I am getting used to things with the Samsung but really think the extra features such as smart stay and scroll are coverting humans into robots. The configuration of the features is also difficult as it detects your eye movement so if the movement is out of place even the slightest the feature will not function. I think the ios user interface is simple in comparison to the android user interface. Any views are appreciated? I have many friends also using HTC and prefer it in comparison to the iPhone and Galaxy but as raymond73 mentioned choice is a wonderful thing.
