Chroma keyer won't select my green background?

so I have my selected clip. I dragged the chroma key onto the clip. Then select the color selector tool and clicked it on the green background.... nothing happens. Infact, if I keep clicking the foreground image I don't want to dissappear starts to checker. Am I missing a step? Is there something that I need to select prior to chroma keying a green screen?

I downloaded my video, dragged it into the time line, double clicked on the video, inserted the chroma keyer effect into the filter, but nothing happens when I select the eye dropper and touch the green screen. What am I doing wrong? Help.

Put your green screen clip on V2. Background on V1. Click on the V2 clip. Add the chroma key filter. Double click on the V2 clip. Go to the viewer to the Chroma Keyer tab. Click on the eye dropper. Click on the green portion in the image shown on the Canvas. Click on the eyedropper. Hold down the shift key. Click on any remaining green.

Green Screen, Chroma Keyer, and Keying

I did some short green screen recordings for a small project with different backgrounds dubbed in. The lighting is good, the green screen is set up accurately with no wrinkles, shadows, etc. It is just one person sitting on a stool with a green screen behind. With the chroma keyer filter, I have got the image to look fairly good when viewing any selected frame. The problem is, when I play it back the borders/edges around the individual blink and twitch dramaticall. Moving the softening up seems to fix this problem, but I have to move it up so much that it starts to deteriate the individual, so this does not work. I just wanted to see if I could get any ideas, or even some basic tips that I might be forgetting.
I know keying is a process that takes years to fully understand, but this seems to be the one common obstacle that I keep running into...

When you light for green screen, you are really lighting two sets. You ought to be able to turn off the light on the talent with no effect on the screen and vice versa. The biggest mistake people make is having the talent too close to the screen-- which results in green light bouncing back onto the talent and creating what you are seeing.
One way to lessen this is to use a backlight on the talent with a magenta filter. That'll negate a great deal of the green spill.

If you want the whole of the project background to be white, you can change the colour in FCP X preferences.
If you just want white for a section or clip, use a custom Generator from the Generators Library and change it to white in the Inspector.

Without knowing what is on your Mac it is a little difficult to say.
Photoshop Elements will do it (Use the Magic Wand to select the area then Paint it).
GraphicConvertor comes bundled on some Macs and can do it.

Chroma keyer edges are always jagged and green comes through edges?

I have a very small green screen I'm testing. No matter how evenly I light, I seem to always be getting a thin green line around the edges. It's either think or very jagged.

Well, first off DV is not the best format for keying. The 4:1:1 compression means you will never have a nice clean edge.
But there are some things you can do. You probably need to use several filters to get the best key. Color Smoother - 4:1:1, Chroma Keyer, Spill Suppressor - Green, and finally Matte Choker (or Matte Magic). The order is very important. Often you will have to make adjustments in one filter after making changes in another one. It is definitely an art, not a science.

Chroma Keyer and overlaying an object in FCE on a freeze frame.

I seem to have lost my notes in a recent move, need help. I shoot sports footage and I am using FCE. I have a series of 2 second freeze frames that I nedd to overlay a green arrow (pdf imported from Pages.) What are the steps using chroma keyer to 1. get rid of all the matter other then the green arrow (with the dropper) 2. anchor the arrow over a point and 3. rotate arrow to point at subject. I vaguely remember it being fairly straight forward but I am missing something.
Is there a way to get the pdf or jpg arrow removed from it background before importing into FCE......so I can just import the arrow shape and not the page?

The easiest way to do this is to convert the graphic (the arrow) to one with a transparent background, then you won't have to do any keying at all.
Open you PDF file in Preview.app.
Save the file as a .png file.
Now you should have the arrow as a .png file loaded in Preview.
In the toolbar, click on the triangle nest to the Select button, and choose "Instant Alpha"
Click down and drag you mouse a slight bit on the background you wish to remove, and release the mouse button.
The background should now be selected.
Press the Delete key.
The background should now disappear, leaving just the arrow.
Now save your document again.
If you now import your .png version of the arrow into FC, you can just place it above the video you want it to appear on and it will automatically be keyed correctly.

Final Cut Express Chroma Keyer stop working

Hi, I am working on a video with some green screen. The chroma keyer effect was working great, but then it stopped. All of a sudden it wont key out anything. I change the settings and nothing changes? It is just someone in front of a green screen? I am confused becasue it has already worked. I even moved one clip that it was working on and moved it back and now it wont work on that clip? Any ideas?

You can reset the chroma key filter (like any filters) by clicking the little X in a small circle next to the filter name in FILTERS tab for your clip opened in viewer.
You can make a simple test: create a new sequence darg your original clip, apply a new copy of chroma key filter from browser.
Also, check in the RT effect Pop-up menu in timeline (top left corner)to see if the play base lawer only is checked on. If so, check it off.

Boiling Skin caused by Chroma Keyer filter

I have a lot of interviews in front of some really well-lit chromakey. Most are keying out nicely but sometime I get a subject whose skin starts to bubble. I'm using FCE with the Chroma Keyer filter since that seems to work better than all the other keyers. I'm trying to do this all in FCE rather than switch to After Effects.
Any idea what causes this bubbling skin effect? I've been looking at edge control, width, softness, etc. But there are a lot of dials to turn with this particular filter.

There are three Chroma-key tools in my version of FCE. I would try the others
to see if they are more alowing.
I like the "Color Key" - But also test the "Blue and Green Screen"

Green background after upgrade

I recently upgraded to 5.1.4 and now find my Viewer and Canvas have a green background even though it is set to black. Have switched this setting around and back to black but to no avail.
How do I get it to be black again?

Is everything else working OK? I've had a situation where the viewer and canvas are green and I'd often get errors when I'd try to load clips or sequences. It seemed to be related to quicktime and firewire. Shutting down, disconnecting everything from the firewire ports, and unplugging the computer for 15 minutes sometimes fixed it. I also found that if a sequence wouldn't load, if I selected it in the browser and changed the codec and then changed the codec back to DV, everything would get back to normal. Post back and give us more details.

How do I remove a green background from a pdf text document?

I posted this question yesterday and received one reply. I wanted to respond to the reply, but couldn't find a link or "button" to click on that would enable me to do that, so I'm doing it here. As I'm new to this site, please advise me where the link is, if there is one.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that PDF was proprietary, with one "owner" and that PDF was PDF, so it didn't matter what program you had on your computer because PDF was universal. Second, when I googled Nuance pdf, I was directed to this site, specifically the "Create, Edit and Export PDF's" section. Third, I also have Adobe Acrobat with pdf and a bunch ofother Adobe products on my computer. So, that brings me back to my original question, how do I get rid of a green background on a pdf text document, so I don't use up all my ink when I print it. Thanks for your patience and help.

Problem with Matte Edge Contols in Chroma Keyer

I'm in the process of pulling a chroma key using FCP. The actual keying has gone fine, but I want to adjust the matte edges using the Matte edge controls found within the chroma keyer. The problem is that when I adjust any of the 3 controls the unmasked image imediately goes blurry. If I set the values back to "0" the image is again sharp. What am I missing here.
Would very much appreciate any help.

Hi,
In a variant there are several fields in the selection screen, the variant is saved with a set of these field values.
In the case of MDBT, you can create several varinats for different materials or Plants and then execute those varinats whenver you need.
Basically the varinat caoncept is associated with Back ground jobs and also user specific entries.
Suppose every time you do not want to repeatedly enter the same field values , you can use these varinats.
