Chrome fails install on Windows 8.1

For several weeks now Chrome has failed on my Windows 8.1 OS.
I tried reinstalling but I wasn't sucessful.

Since that would likely be an issue between Google and Microsoft, why not start by taking it up with Google.

  • SOLVED :Flash Player fails installing on Windows XP SP3 ,error 1007

    Hi,
I would like to report a failing installation for FlashPlayer.
The good news is that using the offline installer ( also v 17.0.0.134 ) i have now the Flash Player installed and running :-)
However i will tell my experience for later readers - and hopefully the developper can fix it for future releases:
I download the file install_flashplayer17x32_mssd_aaa_aih ;executing
the file starts the installation process, but after about the 66%, installation fails, and then
a browser window with the following url is shown:
    https://get.adobe.com/es/flashplayer/completion/aih/?exitcode=1007&re=0&type=install
The installation has been performed using an admin acount.
Also i've tried executing the reset_fp15.bat file without success.
Machine is a DELL LATITUDE D505
    Problem is reproducible.
The installation log and versions used follows a few lines later.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Reader X fails install in Windows XP SPK3

Why does Adobe Reader X fail during installation in Windows XP spk3? I
t gets about 2/3 through and then exits with an error.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing.  I have tried a registry cleanner.
What do I need to do to have the installation work?
I also tried downloading it from a different URL.

I found the solution to my problem with installing Adobe Reader X in Windows XP SPK3.
I ran a tool from Microsoft to do a "clean" uninstall of Reader X.  Before I ran this tool, it appeared as though Reader was removed, but upon going back into add/remove programs, there it was again.  This tool "fixed " the uninstall problem and uninstalled Reader.  Now I installed Reader X with NO problems.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Wayne

Thank you for your response. Being a newbie to Microsoft
Vista (which I recommend the world to reject) I don't know exactly
how to describe how I got the install of Flex Builder 2 to work.
But, a friend of mine walked me through turning off the Windows
Defender security settings as well as all security settings related
to my user's setting. I believe I disabled two Vista "features",
and then the install worked. The only thing was that the checkboxes
during the install program did not appear, but clicking the
respective questions themselves did the trick (i.e. do you agree to
software license?' and 'install Flash player on IE / Firefox?')
Sorry I can't be more specific... but, for anyone that has
this problem, in the words of my friend, "Turn everything off in
Vista you can, then try it!".
    Good luck,

I did the test and could install the Windows Search Service without problem.
Which role did you installed on the terminal server?
Did you try to install it on another windows server?

  • USB Console (Serial) Driver fails to install on Windows 8.1 x64

The USB console cable driver v3.1 will not install on Windows 8.1 x64.  Had a similar problem with Windows 7 x64 but this was fixed using Greg's (greggar25) excellent step-by-step procedure (see post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11492306/usb-console-driver-install-failing).
I am using the driver from this link: http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282774228&flowid=7442&softwareid=282855122&release=3.1&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
I followed the same procedures I did for Windows 7 and the install goes without a hitch.  Reboot and connect the USB cable, opened Device Manager and now I have a COM Port randomly appearing and disappearing with its number incrementing well above 1,000.
A few times while it appeared for a few seconds, I was able to right click on the properties, update the driver and chose Cisco Serial and it settled down but it did not assign a COM port.  Then a few seconds later, it starts the disappearing/reappearing thing again.
Anyone have luck getting this to work with Windows 8.1 x64?

     Hi,
open Device Manager by simply typing the words on the Windows 8.1 Start Screen. The Search Charm opens and click Device Manager in the displayed list.
In Device Manager a new hardware category, CiscoUsbConsoleWindowsDriver, is displayed. It has two components: the Cisco Bus enumerator and the Cisco USB to Serial adapter. Expanding the Ports hardware category shows a new Cisco Serial port.
     or
    Look into below
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11492306/usb-console-driver-install-failing
    1) Install the usb console driver\windows 64\setup(x64)
    2) Follow the wizard and accept the defaults
    3) Restart the computer (the installer usually says it needs a restart)
    4) After restarting the computer, plug in the usb cable
    5) The computer should say installing Device driver software and fail at the Cisco Virtual Comm Port00
    6) Click the Windows button, right click computer, manage
    7) Under Computer Management, Click Device Management
    8) Go to Ports (COM & LPT)
    9) You should see the Cisco Virtual Comm Port00 with a Yellow Exclamation point on it
    10) Right Click on the Cisco Virtual Comm Port00 and select Properties
    11) Click the Driver Tab
    12) Click Update Driver
    13) Select Browse my computer for driver software
    14) Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    15) Choose the Cisco Serial Driver
    16) Device Driver is installed successfully, take note of the com port it is using and enjoy.

    The last update failed on
my window 7 home prermium pc, resulting in me having to try it manually download and install,
this also failed leaving my I tunes not working, I tried restore back to a
safer date, but every time it tried to update it failed. eventually it told me
to delete and reinstall, this fails due to the apple mobile device service
failing to start, and asking me if I have sufficient privileges to start system
service, I have tried all suggestions on iTunes page, ie delete everything to
do with apple, and start as administrator, nothing works, help please

I too have tried the latest iTunes (12.1.1.4) in Win7. I did a search for latent drivers as you noted but found none. I am glad it worked for you - I'm still no-joy at this point. I'm able to install AMDS over and over again, without issue - it just doesn't start then iTunes launch fails with Error 7. I have to manually remove it.
I am able to connect my iPhone via USB cable and access my photo storage on the phone. I am just not able to install iTunes anymore. I have attempted resolution to this issue for almost two months now. Until that time, I was content with what was installed. It was only when the proverbial update box appeared that I attempted to 'update' my iTunes. WHAT A MISTAKE putting blind faith into an Apple request to update. I SUGGEST NOT TO UPDATE YOUR ITUNES IF IT IS RUNNING PROPERLY!
I realize now, once again I might add, my reliance on software provided by others. It's like anything else, I shouldn't rely on just one method for anything. Time to search for a more pleasant alternative than Apple. Truly, when it worked, it was good at its job, but now that I am wasting time I am looking seriously at upgrading to another type of smartphone and media management software. Way too much trouble for anything as simple as this should be. I wonder, is this a result of another feud with Microsoft?

When attempting to install Project Professional 2013 Pro (x86) on Windows Professional x86 PC that has Office 2010 ProSp2 installed client getting an error message at the end of the installation "Project 2013 has encountered an error during setup".
I have gotten the installer to work on x64 PC with Office 2010 installed. (Something worth noting that even thought I set the reboot to prompt its automatically reboots without warning but, appears to be working.)  I also tried using the OTC, custom XML

Without having to uninstall Office 2010 what do I need to modify in the installer to get it to Project 2013 Pro to install on the x86 machine?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Your environment will support 32 bit of Project professional 2013 (x86) as you have Windows and Office of (X86).
You try to modify registry then you wont face issue.
The issue when you hit a "1653" is that Windows
Installer "DisableRollback" is set. Office 2013 requires that "rollback" be enabled. If you are getting a "1653"
error in your logs as Ken did then the solution is to delete the "DisableRollback" (or set to '0') at the following registry keys:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
these are the issues I've seen:
Scheduler service was stopped. At a cmd window typing "net start schedule" resolves the problem.
CMD.exe was customized via the following registry key. Solution was to temporarily disable the customization by changing autorun value to autorun_old.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Command Processor
Permission issues - seems some custom permissions affected Ingram's install which he explained in his previous post.
Environment variable "ComSpec" had been modified (semicolon added). Fix was to remove the added semicolon (there should be no semicolon).
The way to identify you are hitting this specific issue is if in the %temp%\OfficeSetup.log there is a mention of "Office64MUI.msi" failing to install with return value of 1603
If you want to enable verbose logging via the following key, rerun your failed install, and collect all the setup and MSI* logs that will give more information.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
    "logging"= "voicewarmup"

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

Attempted update to iTunes 10.5.2 failed on my Windows XP system.  Now my phone is not recognized.  I tried installing manually.  I tried to repair using Add/Remove programs.  Still get errors.

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive

  • Clean install of Windows 7, product key failed

I wanted to do a clean install of windows. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 product key on the bottom of the laptop. So I made a windows 7 usb boot drive from an iso file from Microsoft's website and formatted the hard drive. I installed Windows 7 with no problems. I go to type in the product key and activate Windows and it fails. Microsoft support says the product key is blocked and that HP is responsible for supporting pre-loaded Windows laptops.
Why is the Windows product key written on the bottom of my computer blocked? And how do i fix it?

Actually HP would ask you to contact MS. And MS would advice you to get Recovery media from HP. This is what is going to happen. You can try your luck with MS first.
MS withdrew all the Windows 7 ISO support, especially to OEMs 2 weeks back.

  • CHKDSK fails on fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on mid-2009 MBP with SSD

There was an earlier post about this that has been archived prematurely that I will reproduce below. The main issue is a flaw in the Windows 7 x64 CHKDSK of the SSD drive in the mid-2009 MBP= 5,2. With fresh OSX installs, bootcamp 3.1, Windows 7 x64 all updates, the CHKDSK operation checks files at about 1 per second in stage 4 of 5, verifying file data.
Moderators: please leave this open until it is actually resolved.

Windows 7 x64, MacBook Pro, frequent CHKDSK after HDD firmware update
    Posted: Nov 2, 2009 6:45 AM
Hello, I have been having filesystem problems on my Windows 7 partition since the HDD related firmware update (the latest Performance update) was released and installed onto this mid 2009 MacBook Pro.
The HDD is a 500 GB 7200 RPM model, but it never gave me any troubles under OS X before the "fix" and I know other users had intermittent problems with the HDD on their MacBook Pro's related to the HDD making noises and pausing.
The fix was released, I installed it and I started seeing my first problem in Windows 7 x64 a few days after... I cleanly shut the OS down, but when I booted it back it asked me to perform a coherency check to the Filesystem... I thought that the problem was related to the fact that I was using the RC1 build of Windows 7... although that problem never manifested itself in the weeks before the Performance Update (HDD firmware fix) was installed and Windows 7 x64 RC1 had been on there and used frequently.
I recently purchased Windows 7 retail a few days ago and after a bit of trouble-free operation I started having problems again... always shutting the PC down carefully and I was asked to run the CHKDSK utility at boot twice already.
    What to do?

    Hi there,
I have a different experience. I installed Windows 7 before the "performance update 1.0" came out. I actually experienced the chkdsk launch problem with Windows 7. I had done repartitioning and clean-install several times but cannot solve the problem. So I tried to install XP and Vista on my MBA (Mid 2009 with SSD) and found that these two OS doesn't introduce such problem.
To be honest, I'm not sure which caused such problem, Windows 7, a bootcamp driver, or EFI. But I'm sure that CHKDSK in Windows 7 has an obvious bug that needs to be patched (memory leak and maybe this problem as well). So now I'm using Windows Vista SP2. And I'm happy with Vista SP2 (seems to become faster and stable now).
