Chrome shuts down unexpectedly when accessing finder such as when I upload pictures to Shutterfly.

It appears that almost every time I try to upload a picture from my finder into Shutterfly, or post one on Facebook my Chrome browser shuts down unexpectedly. I have scanned for virus (none), I have cleared my cashe and cookies and all that, I have rebooted and have checked for updates... Nothing is working. I get the following information in an error report, which is like foreign language to me.

I've trouble shot the RAM pretty thoroughly. I have bought two 1 Gig chips, each from a different source. Each of the third party chips will run the computer all day long in the main slot, as will the Apple 1 gig chip. I can do heavy intensive work with only 1 gig and never have a problem.
I have also run memory tests on all three and they all pass with flying colors. Certainly it might be reasonable to try an apple RAM next, but at Twice the price, I'm slow to go that route. Both of the third party chips appear to be in good shape. They all are DDR2 PC5300 667Ghz. Both of the chips were procured from stores that I have used for 20 years and are well known to be high quality brands.
My thought is that there may be a problem with the upper RAM slot connector. Does anyone know if you can start the machine with RAM only in that slot? I might try that as another troubleshooting effort.

macbook froze while online. hard shutdown. when it restarted, an error message appeared saying finder shut down unexpectedly containing a message box with a long list of technical jibberish.  after clicking OK that it would send an error report to Apple, the same error message box appeared again and again every time OK was clicked.  Now the macbook will not turn on at all

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.

I recently started having the problem of iTunes shutting down immediately when someone on another computer enters the password i have on my shared music and then try to access it. the message i receive on my computer is "The application iTunes shut down unexpectedly." i tried having other users try to access it and same result every time. is there something i can do to fix this or does anyone know what could be wrong?

    Hello there, kshore11.

  • Windows 7 shuts down unexpectedly when I close my lid

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional x86, and recently when I close my lid my computer instead of going to sleep, which is what the power setting is set to, it shuts down. When I open my computer, I have to turn my computer on and when Windows loads, I get the 'Windows shut down unexpectedly' window. Has anyone heard of this happening or has had it happen to them or knows how to fix it?

Didn't find anything in the Action Center. But did find similar events that match the times in the Event View that said the following:
'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error
could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power
    unexpectedly.'
They all has the source as being Kernel-Power, Event ID of 41, and Task Category of (63). Searched Microsoft's website and it didn't return any results. Despite this, it hasn't happened since I originally posted this. Hopefully it doesn't start doing it again. Although one thing I remember it saying on the 'Windows has experienced an unexpected shutdown' window was something about a blue screen. But I never saw one. And I don't know what would even cause this to happen cause I never had this problem when I had Windows XP Pro on my Mac.

  • MBP shuts down unexpectedly when on battery

Today my MBP shuts down unexpectedly when on battery. It started at about 50%. I seems to happen if I don't a thing for a short while when I read something or so. I most of the time when using mu MBP have it on the net cord but today I wanted to work the battery.
Does anyone know what it could be? I have searched in the forum but the answers hasn't been satisfying. I find it weird that I have to use the keyboard or the track pad to keep going.

Not sure what the cause is but you can try resetting the SMC.

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and also installed Google Chrome. Since then our Mac will shut down unexpectedly. Any ideas?

    Hi, lindafrommendota.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Mac restarts unexpectedly after the install of Google Chrome.  Here is a troubleshooting article that will walk your through some steps for this issue.  However, since this issue started once you installed a specific program, I would uninstall this program and test the results.
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

  • Black Macbook (Late 2006) shuts down unexpectedly when plugged in!

I have been having trouble with my Macbook shutting down unexpectedly for the past two weeks and got it checked out and it turned out it was the battery that needed replacement. So I'm using it without the battery but connected to the Magsafe adapter while my new battery gets mailed to me but suddenly it shuts down anyways! What could it be?

    Hello Brine,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
According to the Apple support document below, just bumping the A/C adaptor could cause the Macbook to disconnect and shutdown. Are you positive that this isn't happening?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332?viewlocale=en_US
Otherwise, you may just have to wait and see if the issue persists when the new battery arrives.

  • My macbook (aluminum 13inch) shuts down unexpectedly when battery 45%

    hello there,
my macbook 13inch-aluminum, 2 years old, shuts down unexpectedly when battery state is at about 45% and when an external hard drive (western digital passport 160gb) is connected, or an iphone on a usb port. This occurs only when my mac is running on battery power. I suppose same thing will happen with any other usb device connected. Last time the same thing happened, i did not have any usb device connected onto my laptop.
    My battery details are
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 2377
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3234
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 276
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 376
    Voltage (mV): 12249
I tried to reset my SMC settings as well, but this did not help. Any thoughts please?

Your full charge capacity is about 75% of what it should be, even though your cycle count is comparatively low. If you still have AppleCare, you ought to be able to convince them on the phone or at your local Genius Bar that you have a defective battery, because your capacity should be much higher at that number of cycles.
If you do not have AppleCare, you will probably have to pay for replacement.

  • Mac Shuts Down Unexpectedly in Logic Pro

I sure hope someone can help me with this. For the last few months my Mac Pro starting shutting down unexpectedly typically when running Logic but not limited to Logic. I have updated everything that I can find. I have taken the computer in the store for support twice where they said that after testing there was no issue with the power supply or the logic board and determined that the hardware was okay. The only thing he could tell me is that he thought that it might have to do with all of the dongles on my usb hub. Before the hub was being powered by the Mac so I got a new hub that is now self powered. I thought that it might have to do with the fact that I run Logic through a Digi 002 which I know a lot of people have had stability issues with. Yesterday I also updated my Ilok and Eliscencers and it seemed to work. Today after a solid day of no crashes it was back to the same old stuff. Out of nowhere while Logic is running the audio signal abruptly stops but not to silence it holds a buzzing sound of the last audio that was processed. Then a grey screen comes down and gives me the notice that I need  to restart my computer. Upon powering back up this is the notice that came up    Interval Since Last Panic Report:  82145 sec Panics Since Last Report:          6 Anonymous UUID: Mine has done this at least 3 times already. The laptop isn't connected to a power source, but it says there is still about 30% battery remaining. It has happened before with 50% and even 60%. It's not that it falls asleep, I would be in the middle of doing something and it just shuts off. I don't think it's overheating... It's a little warm, but the fan isn't 'working hard' or anything. It's not happening consistently, but it's happened enough times that it has made me concerned. Here's my battery info:
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: DP-bq20z951-397b-6c24
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: bq20z951
    Pack Lot Code: 0000
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 002a
    Hardware Revision: 0005
    Cell Revision: 0100
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 2272
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3326
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 124
    Condition: Good
According to the stats... it doesn't really look like a battery problem. I really hope the warranty would cover a battery replacement though, if that's what it requires

  • MacBook Pro (W8638) shuts down unexpectedly in both Safari & Firefox

My 2006 MBP has worked well. The machine model is MacBookPro 1,2; 2.16GHz, Family name: A1151, screen size 17 inch, Memory DDR2-S-667 running OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
Two weeks ago it started shutting down unexpectedly. In three of the first four unexpected shutdowns I had 8-10 windows open. In three unexpected shutdowns since then I had 4-7 windows open. Most times in Safari, a couple of times when running Firefox concurrently or Firefox separately.
I've read several posts about possible battery problems. I'm on my third battery since late 2006 - which seems very fair given the amount of usage. The current battery appears to be working fine: "Charge Remaining" is 596, "Fully Charged," yes' "Capacity" 596; "Cycle Count" 211; "Voltage" 12488. "AC Charger" info: ID 0X0100, wattage 85. (As an aside, I'm on my fourth charger. Each failure was a due to a break in the plastic housing where the power cord connects.
It is important to note that the battery, on each of the shutdowns, was 75% - 100% full.
As recommended from several responsders within the Apple Support Community, I downloaded MBP SMC Firmware Update 1.5 and, I think, uploaded it to my hard drive. I say "I think" because the downloaded folder had nine icons. The one I clicked on did in fact upload to my MBP successfully - or so I thought. I've had several unexpected shutdowns since then (4) so I may have down the upload incorrectly or there may be something else wrong with the MBP. Don't know if this is helpful: I just checked "Applications" and the only firmware update I could find is under "Utilities" and it shows "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app" installed November 14, 2006. I've re-downloaded SMC Firmware Update 1.5 if that's an appropriate solution and will install 1.5 if someone would kindly advise on which of the nine icons to install.
    Many thanks, Bret

Kappy, thanks for your help. I decided not to install MBP Firmware update 1.5 because it appears to be a fan fix for newer MBPs than my 2006.
My takeaway from your recommendation is that I shouldn't open as many windows as I have done in the past. I searched Activity Monitor and read the Support docs explanations. Also checked Console Logs (in Library/Crash Reporter) but I have no idea how to interpret on how to use that data. So I'll stick with the "fewer open windows is better" approach.

  • How can I Recover an iMovie project after the program shuts down unexpectedly?

I was working on an iMovie when the program shut down unexpectedly.  I had worked on this project many times before and it always showed up in my project library.  After the shutdown, however, I tried to open up the project and it is no longer in the project library.  I can find it in the finder but when I click on it, it will open iMovie but the project is not listed.  It has to be in there somewhere!  How can I recover it?  Please hlep!

There are numerous reports here on the forum about this issue (I've been bitten by it too). It's becoming an epidemic.
    Here's one thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21157327#21157327
The recent update to iMovie '11 (to version 9.0.9) may have fixed this, but it's impracticable to test, given the random nature of the problem.
The best solution is to always have Time Machine running when editing in iMovie. Also, with larger projects, it's a good idea to duplicate the project from time to time. To duplicate, while in Project Library view (where all your projects are listed), select File > Duplicate Project. Project files are relatively small, as they mainly reference the associated Event (or Events), as well as keeping track of your edits, titles, transitions, music and so forth.
