Chromecast and Homehub 3

I installed our new CC last night.
Initially I tried it on the main TV adjacent to the main router which is a HH5.  The results were as follows:
Netflix - worked no problem
YouTube worked in a fashion but was slow and could drop the signal
Play Music - no sound but the static Google headphone screen appeared
Vevo - Pulled up part of a screen which appeared to be from the HH setup, there was  BT button visible with some text
BBC iPlayer - Pulled up part of a screen which appeared to be from the HH setup, there was  BT button visible with some text
I then set it up on our 2nd TV which is adjacent to a HH3 which is setup as a wireless extender using powerlink adapters connecting it back to the HH5 and Infinity.
The results were exactly the same.
I sort of expected problems with HH5 as seems to be reported quite widely but as HH3 does not have Smart Setup and is single frequency I assumed it would be less likely to have problems.
Any thoughts on what I need to do to the HH3 to make all the apps work?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Don't know if this ever got resolved Tel. I have no problems with BT (lucky me) so don't often come on here.
Anyhoo, got 2 chromecasts, living room TV and kitchen TV, running via our Infinity 2 connection and HH4, no cap.
Our use is 95% streaming online content from such as Netflix, and I'd expect that to count (although it's acedemic for me as I'm on an unlimited package).
When not in use I can't see it using any data other than phoning home every so often.
How you getting on with your CC?
For us, for the hidden form factor and price, it's probably the best bit of kit we've ever bought.

  • Chromecast and Apple Airport Extreme Base Station

    Hey guys,
So I have a Chromecast and an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (newest AC one).  There is a setting on the base station called "Block incoming IPV6 Connection."  With it enabled, my Chromecast cannot connect to router and is thus un-useable.  Disabling it allows my Chromecast to work.  My first question is: if I keep that option disabled, will my network be vulnerable to outside access by unwanted person (moreso than with it enabled)?  And, does anyone know how to get it so that the "block incoming IPV6  connections" option can be enabled while still allowing Chromecast to connect?
    Thanks

Solved my problem.  I had checked, in the Apple Preferences folder, internet share.  I unchecked it and everything performed like before.  Thanks, self.

  • Blackerry Playbook and Homehub 3

Hey everyone, new to the forums, but thought this might be the best place to get a bit of advice
Just got a Blackberry Playbook today, its pretty cool, but having some problems with wifi connections... I have BT Infinity with a Homehub 3, and initially I had a bit of a problem getting the Playbook to connect to the homehub, but after resetting the homehub it connected no problem.
It was working fine for a few hours and now its disconnected again, I was wondering if anyone had a solution to why it keeps disconnecting? When I go into "wifi" on the Playbook, my network shows up with no problems, but doesnt connect... it also says the network is "open" and doesnt require a password, but it does have WPA2 protection.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hey, thanks for the reply guys. Oh I got mine from currys for £169 very pleased with it, its a great little device I have had it working with the internet, but the connection seems to "time out" when i don't use it for an hour or so... Sometimes it works again just by turning the wifi on the playbook off and then back on again, but other times it won't work at all, it just says the Hub3 is an "open" network and it can't connect to it.
Im going to try and delete all Hub3 data and comnect with the WPS, I did try the WPS function  a few times, but it wouldn't get past the IP allocation stage.
I had thought about changing to WEP, but there are a lot of devices in my house running off the wifi, the rest all work fine, so don't want to risk disrupting them just for the playbook.
I was wondering if other devices in the house could disrupt the playbooks connection? I sometimes think theres far too many wifi devices in our house :/

  • BT Infinity and homehub 5 type A GRR

I so wish that i never signed upto a Bt contract 12 months ago. previously I had sky ADSL and upgraded to BT Infinity..what a massive blunder i made. Wifi signal constantly stops working etc. My daughter has stopped using the house wifi and is using her Vodafone 4G as it is more stable and faster. Yes I have tried to call the BT help desk and report..i have done what they have told me "to disable all WIFI connections plug Ethernet into router and test the broadband speed, and yes i get 38mb as required therefore nothing wrong with my broadband" However a few facts
FACT 1:. I used standard SKY ADSL for 4 years without a single issue, got 14MB download and had a stable wifi signal in all 4 bedrooms of a semi detached..
Fact 2: With BT Infinity, i have a system that constantly crashes, i have to reset my router all the time, when i work from home I have to plug ethernet cable into homehub as Lync audio quality is unbearable, my desk is 1 meter away from the homehub, constant tethering with netflix and now tv, the TV setup is 3 metres away from the homehub and in the same room
I tried to cancel today but unfortunately when i added the "free BT Sport" to my sky box in January just past i signed up for another 12 months without realizing. (how silly of me for not reading the small print)
So, as i'm stuck with this for 12 months what can i do to at least get a service that works...any recommendations of what router i can install instead of the home hub.
    Ok rant over

Which BT Home hub do you have?
There are plenty of alternative and better routers, ( or modem/routers if you have a HH5)

  • Wirelessly connecting MBP, TC and homehub

I have a MBP, and time capsule and a BT Homehub.  I want to connect the 3 wirelessly but am having troubles.
I don't have access to the Homehub as living in a shared house so the usual option of plugging the TC into the homehub can't work for me.
Can I use the dual-band wi-fi on the TC to achieve a wireless connection between the three?  Can I use one of the wi-fi bands on the TC to connect to the Homehub and the other to connect to the MBP to give internet and backups wirelessly?  So the MBP would connect to the TC's network.
Does anyone know how to set this up?

So the three can work together wirelesly but not in my desired set up?
    Yes
I can wirelessly connect the TC to the homehub by setting it up to join the homehub network and then the MBP gets its internet network from the homehub and backups occur across the homehub network? So MBP backs up via the homehub?
    Correct
To do this, when setting up the TC, is the join option on the same screen as create network or extend network?
Apple does not really want you to configure the Time Capsule this way, so you have to use the Manual Setup option to do this.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup.
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box and the "Join" option will appear
You will have to specify the name of the wireless network to be joined and enter the exact type of wireless security and password that the HomeHub is using.
If everything does not match up exactly, you will see an error message and you have to factory reset the TC and start all over with the configuration to try again
Also, when set up this way, is the back up speed slow or not really affected?
Backups will occur as quickly as the wireless network allows. If multiple users are on the network at the same time, things are going to be much slower at that time.
The Ethernet ports on the TC are not enabled when it is configured to "join", so you will have to backup using wireless. You will have to allow a lot of time for the first Time Machine backup since all of the data on your Mac will be copied over. A good time to do this would be overnight.

  • Voyager 220v and Homehub 2 connection

I would like to connect my old Voyager 220v to my HomeHub 2 (main router) as an access point elsewhere (outside HH2 wireless range) in my house. The V220v and the HH2 would be connected by domestic "powerline" connections
Is that possible?  If so, how?
Tips, suggestions and "instructions for dummies" much appreciated!

Yes, if you follow my instructions on the following page, it will work. The Voyager 220V is very similar to the Voyager 2091.

I want to use this routher together with my Chromecast wireless unit to stream from my net to my procector, is this router compatible with the Chromecast unit?

Yes. Use the link FurryNutz had provided you. Make sure that you choose the Hardware version to 1.1. You also need to check what's the current firmware version of your router. You may refer to this link on the steps of updating the router firmware: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=e9c2361ee7974d75913e61386a712188_4030.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Three UK Home Signal and HomeHub 4

Hi, I am new to this forum but have searched it for an answer before starting a new thread.
I have a Three UK Home signal box and BT Broadband with HomeHub4. Since I have received the Home Signal box it has never connected to the internet. The green light flashes no matter how many time I tried to reset it and I have been through the necessary channels with Three UK Support. They checked the box and it is communicating with their servers ok. They even reset and synced it from their end.
Is there some sort of firewall that is applied by default to stop these devices from working, or has anyone some sort of work around to help me out here. Please don't go over the top with technical lingo as I am not sure of it all. I just can't see how something which is designed to be plug and play will not do as it is supposed to.
    Thanks in advance.
    Mark

Are you on BT Broadband Option 1?
If you are, then your public IP address may be shared, which may stop some of these devices from working.
    Look here http://btsupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44044/c/6433
If in doubt, use the "opt out" link.
BT Parental controls, if you have them installed, may also impact on these services as well.

  • Time capsule and homehub 2

I now have all apple hardware at home and have just bought a time capsule to back up everything.  I have BT Home Hub 2.0 which currently connects wirelessly to all devices and works fine(ish).
I have tried to set up the time capsule but it won't work properly.  I have been told by apple to switch off the wireless capability of the home hub and set up a new network based on the timecapsule with the home hub basically acting as a modem/router.  I can't find out how to do this.
I have tried BT help which hasn't really helped.  I have also searched the forums but can find nothing particularly relevant.
Could anyone point me in the right direction please?
    many thanks for any help

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Long time Mac user with Infinity here.
Remove the HH and connect the WAN port on the white Openreach Modem to the WAN port on the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable. The one supplied with Infinity will do nicely. Set up the TC wifi and off you go.
Set the TC as the backup device on each of your Apple devices to exploit the automatic backup facility and utilise the hard disk in the TC. You can also share a USB printer on your network by connecting it to the port on the TC.
If you currently connect any devices with Ethernet, just use the Ethernet ports on the TC just the same as you have on the HH2.
The TC has far better wifi capability than the HH2 as it offers 5GHz wifi (as well as 2.4Ghz) to which most Apple devices can connect and at a far greater range and reliability. The 5Ghz band is little used by other wifi routers and is far less likely to be the subject of the common problem of co-channel interference experienced with 2.4GHz devices supplied by most ISPs.
I dumped the HH for an Airport Extreme fairly soon after having Infinity installed and have extremely good wifi throught the house and to the bottom of my garden.

This should be sufficient, just go into go into Airport Utility >> Internet Tab >> Internet Connection : Set Connection Sharing to bridge mode and make sure Connect Using is set to ethernet.
I'm not sure, but the default for the TCP/IP subtab should also be Using DHCP. Just hit Renew DHCP if after a reboot, the fields are unpopulated.
It is possible to setup with DMZ, but the HH2B seems to have a bug with it (or just my one does) so I wont go into too much detail. No HH side config should be needed.
If this doesnt do it, just post here, il have to check my setup when i get home.

  • Question regarding homehub and Open reach router -...

    Hi all,
I had infinity installed earlier this month and am happy with it so far. I do have a few questions regarding the service and hardware though.
I run both my BT openreach router and BT Home hub from the same power socket. The problem is, if I turn the plug on so both the Homehub and Openreach Router start up at the same time, the home hub will never get an Internet connection from the router. To solve this I have to turn the BT home hub on first and leave it for a minute, then start the router up and it all works fine. I'm just curious if this is the norm or do I have some faulty hardware?
Secondly, I appreciate the estimated speed BT quote isn't always accurate, I was quoted 49mbits down but received 38mbits down - Which I was happy with. Recently though it has dropped to 30. I am worried this might continue to drop over time. and as of present I am 20mbits down on the estimate . For the record 30mbits is actually fine and probably more than I would ever need. If I could boost it some how though I would be interested to hear from you.
    Thanks, .

Just a clarification: the two boxes are the HomeHub (router, black) and the modem (white).  The HomeHub has its own power switch, the modem doesn't.
There is something wrong if the HomeHub needs to be turned on before the modem.  As others have said, in general best to leave the modem on all the time.  You should be able to connect them up in any order, or together.  (For example, I recently tripped the mains cutout, and when I restored power the modem and HomeHub went on together and everything was ok).
Check if the router can connect/disconnect from the broadband using the web interface.  Leaving the modem and HomeHub on all the time, go to http://192.168.1.254/ on a browser on a connected computer, and see whether the Connect/Disconnect button works.

  • A fix for nexus and Chromecast on bt

Been struggling for a few weeks now casting from my nexus to Chromecast via BT but have finally found a solution.
First of all make sure your google play services is the latest addition you can find the latest version here http://www.apk4fun.com/apps/com.google.android.gms/ after installation turn your device off and back on and try to cast if it does not work do the following which worked for me.
First of all install a older version of play services once installed go into your app manager and force stop google play services
Turn of your device and then back on.
Go back to your google play services and restart the play services.
Then go to your Chromecast and start it up, it will tell you that it needs the latest version of play services to work, follow the on screen instructions and let it update.
Once done exit everything and turn the device on and off then reconnect to your Chromecast and you should be good to go.
If not pester google like I did, it has nothing at all to do with the BT home hub all issues are Google's latest updates.

    Hey, thanks!
I was having the exact same problems in Final Cut Studio 2
Motion crashes/closes on 'save as' or export.
DVD studio pro crashes on import.
Soundtrack Pro crashes on save as.
Final cut pro 6 was the only one that worked fine. Not sure about LiveType, havn't used that in like 4 years.
    JUST A WARNING:
Final Cut Pro X will not open after this fix!
Any ideas of how to get both FCS2 and FCPX working on the same machine in Snow Leopard? I like editing in FCPX (for my needs it's faster) but I still need DVDSP. :/
Any point upgrading to FCS3 or will that crash as well?
---------------Or is there an alternative to DVD SP that's free or not too expensive????------------------
For those that need it, here's the reverse process:
(This worked just fine for me to reverse the process and get FCPX to work again, HOWEVER, I am NOT qualified to give this advice, I am not a programmer or developer! - do the following at your own risk.)
Open Terminal and enter the 4 lines below and press 'enter' after each line:
    cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/
    sudo mv ProKit.framework "ProKit(SnowLeopard).framework"
    sudo mv ProKitFOO.framework ProKit.framework
    exit
I hope that's been helpful to someone.

  • EA6500 and Google Chromecast

Anybody got this to work yet?  I get to the point where it tries to connect to my network but it never can.  I reset both the chromecast and router back to factory settings but no luck.  The only thing Google seems to suggest is to disable AP Isolation mode but as far as I know, this router does not even support that (nor could I find that listed anywhere in the settings).

I'm having the same problem with my EA6500 and my new Chromecast.  I'd like to try your solution but I can't figure out how to disable security as you did.  I'm using the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi web based utility.  I'm seeing all sorts of different settings, but I can't find a simple "disable security" option.  Any direction would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

  • Btsport and Chromecast issues using Android 4.0.4 ...

Having waited patiently for bt to firstly accept and then finall solve the aspect ratio problem I now find that the BTsport app stops working every time I try and 'cast' with Chrome cast. I have tried BBC iplayer with Chromecast and of course it works perfectly. Isn't it time that BT sacked its software team and subcontracted the work to the BBC?
